This place gets extremely busy at lunch time. The tables and decor has been upgraded and it's nice. They try to fill the whole restaurant to capacity so when it is busy, it is tight and loud. The food is so good though from the vermicelli bowls to the rice platters to pho and to my favorite the grilled pork spring rolls. The avocado smoothie is not to sweet but you get all the flavors. Very clean environment with a good amount of seating. The service was so fast that I think I was in and out within 25 minutes. We ordered pho and the fresh herbs that came out looked fresh, unlike most pho places that has old and wrinkly basil and bean sprouts. They also had the spicy green peppers - a really small detail but something I noticed that restaurants don't have anymore. Overall, the pho was good and I definitely noticed that they put in more meat here - but for a higher price. Only downsides here would be the increase in price (around $1-2 more than some places) and it has a more limited menu. read more

This place is my go to pho restaurant in this area! I've been to so many in my life and this restaurant overall is a great experience with both food and customer service. It gets very busy here and sometimes you have to wait in the back of the restaurant to be seated, but I normally never need to wait very long. Food also comes out in a timely manner. The staff are super friendly and patient (I'm very indecisive)... I have been coming to this place for about a year now and I haven't encountered any bad experiences. I recommend Pho So 1 Boston to all of my friends who are in the area and aren't very knowledgeable in Vietnamese foods because the dishes are mostly good. I also mention my friends who are not very aware of Viet dishes because they make it so easy to order here! The diversity of the customers who come in here also makes it a comfortable environment for anyone. Great place for families! :) Try new things coming here! They say this is one of the better Vietnamese Restaurants around the Randolph area. I ordered the Bun Rieu and my friend ordered the grilled beef over rice. His beef was grilled with a nice char and tasted good. I felt my bun rieu tasted a bit off... unlike what I'm used to in Cali. It's a bit more oily than the bun rieu in Cali as well, and I find it odd that they put fish balls in it. Overall, it's not bad, it's decent Vietnamese food. read more

WOW! I guess if your white and not Asian, you cannot get a seat at this restaurant! Talk about discrimination! So I arrive at 8:45pm and was told that the restaurant is closing early due to cleaning. Yet right before someone at the counter told me, I witnessed the guy taking orders for (2) tables and I also saw another family waiting for their food. The lady at the counter told me that they are taking to go orders till 9:30pm, but cannot seat me. But the only way to pick up the "To Go" orders is by walking through the restaurant. Once the guy, who was taking table orders, came back to the counter, he told me that they are only doing "To Go" orders and closing the restaurant at 9pm, which is yet another lie, since I personally saw him take (2) table orders, as I walked to the counter to be seated. Must admit, I am a bit confused as to why this restaurant got a high rating, if they discriminate against non-Asians and lie to customers. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this restaurant and if your NOT Asian, I would definitely be aware of their discriminatory actions! read more

The best Pho in the town and the broth is always spot on. I have my reservations about Vietnamese places since i normally already have my go to spots but this place was too good not to leave a comment. The most important thing that keeps drawing crowd back to this little gem is their consistency. There is also a huge variety of food here-it's not just the pho. I like their bubble tea's along with the desserts such as fried ice cream (which by the way was delicious). I always get the No. 63 on their menu combined with any other variety depending on my mood. The no. 63 (Clay pot Fish) and hot & sour chicken soup (No. 62) are my favorites from their menu. Obviously the shrimp and grilled slice pork spring rolls are a must for me. The peanut sauce that comes with it is so hard to stay away from. The prices are more than reasonable and we always have so much extra that we bring home. Phenomenal food, best smoothies compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but when you order on the phone for pickup, expect bad customer service. They won't bother to even tell you how long the order will take, just hangs up on you. Order by numbers? Only give the name and then shout the numbers back at you on the phone anyways. One time, the guy on the phone hanged up on us 10x. Then he realized we won't give up and switched us to someone else and then no problem. 5 stars for food 1 star for phone service. Averages out to 3 stars. When my friends and I order, we rotate who will order because we know that it's going to be a miserable experience. But the food is really good, that's why we come back. My family and I have been coming here for close to a decade so it's about time I left a review. The pho here is delicious - true comfort food that doesn't leave you feeling heavy or sluggish. I get the pho with eye-round steak with beef meatballs and enjoy with the fresh basil and bean sprouts. Our other go-to's: grilled sliced beef with rice, vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken and shrimp, caramelized fish clay pot, and hot and sour fish soup (both always with catfish). It's always busy here so staff are always running around - but the food comes out super quickly and consistently hits the spot! read more

This place is awesome and has surpassed my expectations by a mile. I was in the area at a specialty, gluten free bakery and we were in search of a place to have a late lunch in the area and whipped out my iPhone and launched the Yelp app. After sorting things by distance and rating, this place popped up and off we were, following turn-by-turn instructions from my GPS... We arrived, parked and walked right into the joint. It was already 2:30PM but you would have never known as the place was pretty busy. Actually it was more than half full which was kind of nuts considering how late it was. But that was a good sign alongside the fact that we were the only Caucasian folks in there. We sat down and promptly ordered. I decided to get some Pho and we also decided to split some crispy pork spring rolls. We were brought some tea and the sides which accompany traditional pho were also brought to the table. We waited a few minutes and then our spring rolls arrived. It was like nothing I've ever seen and they not only looked amazing, but tasted great. The constract of textures between the soft, outer skin and the actual crispy pork was marvelous and we quickly devoured our order. Then came my gigantic bowl of pho. Upon it arriving, I squeezed some lime, added the sprouts and also sprayed some Sriracha sauce in it, giving it a faint but yet visible red hue. Then took a deep breathe and dunked right in, slurping the vermicelli in one bite, chewing on some of the beef in others. It was epic, amazing and my review could never give it justice. So what makes this place great? Well, aside from the could-be-friendly service, it was quick, affordable and pretty clean. The pork dumpling noodle soup, Mì Hoành Thánh or No. 32 ($7.95) with yellow noodles is dusted in fried scallion and shallots, cilantro and sliced onions. Crisp lettuce lines the bowl filled with luscious chicken broth. Sliced pork loin accompanies the bowl. Smallish wontons are filled with pork in a delicate noodle paper. An order of Tiu Nam Vang, Mì Nam Vang ($9.95) delivers yellow noodles in pork broth with shrimp, crabmeat, squid and fish cake along with pork liver and sliced pork . The seafood is passable but the broth is deep. The noodles are plentiful and more Ike linguine rice noodles than the heartier yellow noodles served with the dumpling noodle soup sampled on another visit. Pork liver is tender, slightly bitter and metallic. The shrimp are small while the faux crab is plentiful. The spring rolls ($4.95) present crisped pork and large shrimp slices rolled in delicate rice wrappers with crisp lettuce. walked in on a weeknight (6pm?) to place a take-out order, then went to Shaws next door for a "quick" grocery run. came back w/4 bags in my hand (too lazy to drop off at the car); not expecting two other bags of food! boss/owner-looking gentleman who took my order earlier saw me and instantly remembered which order it was -- down to the iced coffee kept in the fridge. he even tenderly asked if i could hold all the bags, and offered to walk me out! i thanked him but declined since i really could handle it. asked him to put my coffee into one of the bags and i'll be good to go. though the "large" pho we got didn't appear all that large as i opened the container (maybe all squished up in take-out form?), but i still love this place, esp the level of service i got for the price i pay. Came in for lunch a few weeks back. They were super busy and for a while we were ignored. I wouldn't mind if the food was delayed but the greeting took quite some time and so did the water, the check, anything that had to do with waitstaff coming by. We had some questions on the menu that our server had trouble answering. The staff just seemed super disorganized. There are also big stickers with table numbers that are super tacky. The food was great - fresh, flavorful, everything you'd expect from an authentic Pho spot. The spring rolls / fresh rolls were my favorite part of the meal. First time here and it was amazing! As a Vietnamese my expectations are high. We ordered a shrimp spring roll with pork, two bowls of pho and the sweet combination pudding drink. All were delicious, hearty and satisfying! But I have to take one star away because they forgot the tripe in one of our bowls, and our ice waters didn't arrive until I was pretty much done eating. My friend and I were debating on what to eat for dinner. We ended up agreeing to come here though he has been here a few times before and while the food was good, as he said, the service was not so great. He felt ignored (because he was Caucasian) while the staff served the Asian folks first. We decided to come here anyways because we wanted something that wasn't so American. I ordered the Claypot with Chicken, shrimp and frog leg. He ordered the Chowfood with sauteed Beef. I got my order but it wasn't in a claypot. It was a metal pot with a handle that was made of wood so you don't burn yourself. The pot was indeed hot and so, the rice was still cooking and the skin was getting hard and crispy. It was topped with a crap load of thinly sliced carrots, onions, peppers, peas, diced carots (pretty sure these two was from a frozen bag), snow peas, some mushroom, 2 shrimp, 2 frog legs and a few slices of chicken breast. I was so disappointed it wasn't in a claypot. It doesn't even have that taste either. The frog leg was fried and dry, tasteless. The shrimp weren't the most freshest either. He ordered the Beef Chowfoon and got Chicken instead. The waitress came over when we told the guy it was supposed to be beef. She said, I took your order, you said chicken. I said no, I was asking if he wanted chicken or beef and he decided on beef and that was what we ordered. We didn't want to make a big fuzz so we just took it anyways since he didn't care. Again, lots of the veggies that he wouldn't eat and more carrots, onions and some mushroom. There was also broccoli which was fine because I ate them. Tea was served and refilled with no problems. When we walked in, most of the tables were filled except for the last 3 by the door. As the door opens, the room is filled with cold air so we sat closer to the inside (and yes, you can still feel the draft). The others came in just after us had to sit right by the door and man, i feel bad for them. I have to say though -- the place is big, open and you can see everything and hear every conversation going on. Some of the folks that came in after us were served before us. Understandable since some of them ordered Pho and those are very easy and quick to make. And others ordered spring rolls and fried rice. Again, quick to make. Asian restaurants do not operate the same as "Americans" where they served by order received. There was about a 20 minute wait those that came in after all the tables were taken. Later on, while a white couple was still waiting, 3 Vietnamese ladies walked in and waltzed straight to the back where the kitchen is and was speaking to them and grabbed the table right by there. The white female told the staff they've been waiting with a horrified look. The waiter told her their table will be ready in a moment which was on the other side. The folks there just left and it was being cleaned. So I've got some mixed feelings about the place. The food was good. Service was ok, not exactly the best but considering it's an Asian place, that's simply how it is and I can accept that. Late night dinner here with hubby was a mistake. Service was non existent and the food was bad. We ordered the Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancake) and pho dac biet. The Banh Xeo was so greasy we couldn't even finish it. The meats in the Pho was sparse and the tendon they gave was the size of a block and just not appetizing. There were only a couple of tables but we still had to flag down our waiter for our check and to also pay. They were too busy in the kitchen to pay attention to their customers. The restaurant is located in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. But with the lack of service and sub par food there's a better option right around the corner. Say you find yourself leaving IKEA hungry (having rightfully turned down the cinnamon bun and 50 cent hot dog, because they are never as good as they smell), you could do no better thing than drive the 12 minutes to Randolph and eat at Pho So 1 Boston. It's in a strip mall. Don't let that phase you. After living for nearly half a decade in San Francisco, I find myself missing great Vietnamese food on a daily basis here in the Boston area. Pho So 1 is the closest I get to my happy place. (I haven't tried the Dorchester outpost, but that's next on my list.) The *Bun Bo Thit Nuong* is outrageously flavorful. It's my usual order, even though I love Pho, I can't get enough of this dish. The Pho is rich and delicious. If I'm starving, I'll order fresh spring rolls, and they are good. Usually I'll get Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which mixes strong caffeine, sweetened condensed milk and ice into a slushy glorious beverage. This place is always packed, even at 4 in the afternoon, but the service is quick, efficient, everyone is friendly, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves here. When you walk in, usually they grab you right away and point you towards a place to sit, if not, go ahead and walk straight to the back where the cash register is. read more

This place is a god-send to me and my girlfriend. Living on the south shore makes it difficult to find a good vietnamese restaurant nearby. You have to drive to Quincy, Dorchester, or all the way to Chinatown. Luckily, Pho So 1 is nearby and great to boot! The food is consistently good, and the grilled chicken w/ rice plate is delicious. My gf and I always get two bowls of Pho and a chicken plate to split. She says that the Avacado smoothies are amazing, and I also find the Thai Iced Tea to be excellent. Sometimes I end up taking one to go as well. They seem to be getting more popular, so you might have to wait a little while during dinner time, but it is worth it! The only thing that can be somewhat annoying is that drinks can take a while to come out. Sometimes I feel that they might have forgotten until my reminder, but this seems to happen with one server only. Otherwise, this is a must try if you are in the area. Our to-do list when moving to the area included finding a good Vietnamese restaurant. Check that one off! Pho So 1 is good food and inexpensive. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. Of course, our favorite dish is the pho. The first time I tried the extra large. Too big for one! The large was plenty for me the next time and I'm a big guy with a big appetite. Our three-year-old isn't so much for the spicy pho so we get her a plate of chicken lo mein. She loves the noodles and vegetables. She also loves the avocado condensed milk drinks, so much that we have to put limits on her. Our one-year-old just loves to eat the rice noodles out of our bowls. She's the spicy food eater! This is an unpretentious low-pressure place that seems family friendly, especially on the wallet and we're happily planning on being regulars. read more

Awesome and convenient place for pho! Parking is always available. My boyfriend and I come here almost once every weekend. We order a bowl of pho each as well as a grilled chicken with rice to share. The chicken is much better than most places. They've got the best avocado smoothies. The food comes out pretty fast. Prices are average. The wait staff are okay. There's one or two girls there who work really hard. If you order small pho, make sure you are clear because at least 3 times, they've given me a large instead. 2018 update: still as delicious as before. No hangover required, just hungry for lunch. Excellent fast service. Clean space. Air conditioning. Beer and wine. Favorite place for pho. Pho So 1 rescued me from my hangover blight and assisted in making my afternoon trip to IKEA somewhat pleasant. I had minimal expectations, as I don't find myself in Randolph, MA, too often for pho. But I've had both amazing and just meh experiences at pho restaurants I've never been to and it's been satisfying enough. Bottom line, get me some noodles bathing in beef broth, stat! This strip mall restaurant was quite lovely inside compared to other Pho restaurants. It was spacious and clean with a number of people also enjoying a late Saturday afternoon lunching. Some dudes were slurping from a bowl the size of my head, so I knew I was in the right place. I ordered from their extensive menu of Pho, the Pho Tai Gan, beef pho loaded with large chunks of fall-apart tender tendon. Mmmm... yummy yummy. Choose from small, large, and X-Large. The X-Large was the one that was the size of my head. I opted for a large, which was PLENTY. The accouterments were divine, including a plate of fresh thai basil, torpedo pepper, bean sprouts, other aromatic greens that I've never seen before, and limes. And the noodles were cooked perfectly to a chewy nom nom delicious texture. I would be eating here all the time if I lived nearby. It's better than pho I've had in Boston, although I suppose the rare beef wasn't uber flavorful. The tendon, noodles, broth, and sides were what won me over. read more
