I love this place! If you love fresh, order the Thai, The summer rolls A1, are amazing with the peanut sauce. The Pho is out of this world! I love the sliced chicken in my, the fresh ingredients they give you to add helps you make it the way you want. If you like a salad, I love the Vermicelli with rice noodles. Sooo good! Wow what a disappointment. I was excited to see a Vietnamese restaurant in the area. Went in and was almost disappointed right away when I found out everyone was Chinese and didn't speak a lick of Vietnamese. Figure I still give it a legitiment shot. I ordered pho tai with meat on the side, egg rolls and a Vietnamese coffee. Egg rolls so greasy that when I took a bite I felt the grease oozed into my mouth. The Vietnamese coffee tasted more like coffee flavored water. The pho was bland and not hot enough to cook the meat. Please don't judge this dish at this place. Vietnamese food has a lot more flavor and is really good if made properly. By the way I am american born Vietnamese that speak Vietnamese fluently and I make this dish frequently at home. read more

I'm really surprised to see Pho Saigon getting bad reviews recently. Since moving to Y-town two years ago I've been visiting them on a regular basis. As I mentioned in my original review, I think the pho is tamed down from what you might find elsewhere but it is still pretty darn good! I see lots of folks mentioning the pho is better in Pittsburgh. That may be true but Pittsburg is an hour away and Pho Saigon is just down the road. Unless I am in Pitt for something else, I'll take Pho Saigon any day! read more

I was very excited to try pho for the first time, but wasn't really sure if a Youngstown place was the right place to really give it a shot. Well... I am VERY glad I gave this a try!! They have many appetizers that are home made. I ordered the "goi cuon" which was shrimp, cabbage, and other stuff rolled with rice paper server with a peanut dipping sauce. It was very good. My wife ordered some other homemade egg roll type dish (I can't remember the name) and it was great too!! For my pho, I ordered pho tai chin. The meat was tender, the broth was tasty... I added all the mix-ins into my soup, plus about 3 tablespoons of their hot sauce they had at the table. I loved it!!! My wife ordered from the more traditional chinese menu. She had cashew chicken. That was very good too. The place was CLEAN! The service was GREAT! We will definitely be back!! I cannot wait to try another dish!! read more

Yep, 5 stars with one caveat. I wouldn't give this 5 stars in Los Angeles or New York, but for Youngstown, Ohio I'd give it 6 stars if I could. I had the Pho Chin (noodle soup with well done lean meat) which was good. The broth was rich and beefy and and the meat soft and lean. The bean sprouts and veggies were fresh. The summer roll was just okay. I've had better, but wouldn't hesitate to order it again if I felt the craving. It was just "okay" because it had been refrigerated as opposed to made to order. The best dish on the table was the Bun Bo Hue aka Spicy Noodle Soup (which apparently is only served on Saturday and Sundays). The broth was rich and well flavored. It's different than the Pho broth. Its tough to describe but my best attempt would be the perfect balance of meaty, tangy, spicy and herbal. It was excellent. The service was fantastic and the restaurant itself was much nicer than I was expecting. Pho Saigon is in a little strip mall and from the outside looks like it will be small, but when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised by a bright, clean, roomy restaurant with hardwood floors. Just a delightful establishment from the second you walk in. We were greeted and treated politely and attentively throughout the duration of our visit. As far as the food- I have nothing to compare it to, but it was delicious. I got the pho flank steak with meatball and added in all the goods. The broth was wonderful and spicy, and the overall combination of ingredients were delightful. The lady got the chicken and was just as good. We also had some spring rolls, in which the shrimp tasted fake, but was good overall. I will be returning regularly. read more

Pho Saigon is a great place to dine. Whether you're interested in tradional pho (a Vietnamese soup) or in more commonly known Chinese dishes like Kung Pao chicken, you won't be disappointed. The food here is high quality, fresh and well prepared. I tried pho the first time I was there. It was good, but I'm not much of a soup guy. So I almost always get Kung Pao chicken. It is the best KP chicken I've ever had! Spicy without being obnoxiously hot. Tasty without being overwhelming. The cuts of chicken used are of a higher and cleaner quality than most Chinese restaurants. You can tell that they take pride in the taste and appearance of their food. The atmosphere is more upscale than most Chinese buffet's but not so much that you think you're at a PF Chang's. The wait staff is efficient and friendly and they can answer your questions about the menu. Most folks have never tried pho and ask a lot of questions, but you never get the feeling that the wait staff is tired of answering the same questions over and over. I recommend Pho Saigon to anyone who likes Chinese food and would like to branch out from that into Vietnamese food. read more

I like to curl up with pho when it's cold outside. I called pho Saigon as soon as they opened because today is one of those weird, Ohio, late March snow storm days and it was calling me. I got the Pho and summer rolls. The owner was out shoveling the walkway, which was considerate. I've only ever had pho at one other restaurant in Cincinnati and this is exactly the same, except you can't choose noodle options. I usually choose vermicelli anyway. I think it's tasty but sometimes the meat is not the best and I end up taking it out. Today I did that, which was easy because it comes in a separate container with takeout. I was pressured into getting the summer rolls because I've seen them everywhere for years, and have never tried one. As suspected, I'm not a fan, but I can't blame pho Saigon. It's literally just a bunch of lettuce and a sliver of something meat-like with one piece of shrimp cut in half, wrapped up in rice paper. I took a picture of a cross section where you can see it's mainly rolled up lettuce and sprouts. The peanut sauce tastes like a carnival candy apple type of thing which is strange with the summer roll. Maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough to appreciate something so "light and fresh" but regardless, I won't be ordering it again. I will, however, continue to get the pho. And maybe, if I can pull myself away, try some other dishes there. I'm thankful for pho Saigon. read more

This place has my MOST favorite shrimp with broccoli! Have been ordering it for 2 yrs and talk about excellent consistency. I've NEVER had a bad dish. The young woman and man who run it are soooo friendly and sweet :) I also adore and have found no where else their Summer Rolls. You must get these if u go. Always fresh. Not skimpy on the shrimp. Always big, succulent, and nasty mud vein free! Husband likes their food and he is the pickiest man alive. They even have a cool online ordering system if u just don't want to pick up the phone and speak to someone. Full menu online. They are closed on Mondays. If I had to choose one negative...which is no big deal....they do not have a liquor license. Inside is nice to eat in....and clean restrooms. I was surprised to find a Pho restaurant on our way through OH, although we did have to go off of our planned route to get there. I wasn't impressed. But the pho was edible, my husband said the beef tendon was good. I had the shrimp and pork, and I thought the veggies were so-so. I think this restaurant was definitely aimed towards the majority, so there were a lot of chinese take-out dishes. I would call this a watered down Pho place, don't expect anything all that exotic. read more

Really fish sauce tasting food. Husband has the grilled pork and couldn't get over all the fish sauce on the dish. Food tasted good and fresh I had the house fried rice and couldn't put my finger on why it didn't taste like my usual Vietnamese food. It is good authentic food in Youngstown. Bit if a Viet snob, but I won't be too harsh since it's the only one in the area. Ordered the fresh summer roll to start off, what was way off. Too much filler and wrapped way too big (like a Chinese eggroll). Skimped on the rice noodles and wrapped shredded ICEBERG lettuce, not romaine, around the rice noodles and the amount shrimp and pork were not right for the size of the final wrapped item. For the entree, I order vermicelli rice noodle with fried eggroll and pork. Pork was ok, egg roll under seasoned. At least that was wrapped properly and was Vietnamese egg roll size and not Chinese eggroll size. This dish also had iceberg lettuce not romaine. And no chopsticks, even disposable one. It was more of a Chinese restaurant with Vietnamese dishes on the menu despite the name. Unlikely to eat here again if ever back in the area. read more

This is probably my favorite "go to" place when I want something delicious and inexpensive. They have wonderful Vietnamese dishes. Their Pho options will fit anyone's taste and they make some pretty decent Chinese food and Pad Thai. My husband and I can eat there with apps and drinks for $25-$30 including tips. It is interesting to see so many positive reviews about this establishment. Either I went on a bad night, or some of these folks have no clue what constitutes delicious Vietnamese food. Coming from Tampa, Fl, I guess that my expectations could be considered beyond what is possible for a Youngstown restaurant trying to serve something exotic instead of pizza, sandwiches, etc., but I had some hope. When my wife and I arrived, we were seated immediately by a reasonably pleasant server. Upon receiving the menus though, we were aghast that the Pho options were far from diverse. My wife and I thought, "where are the different noodle options such as rice versus egg versus clear?" Also, is beef broth filled with copious amounts of indescribable meat parts the only option (will be elaborated on next)? We remained optimistic and ordered the combination bowl. Also, we ordered some fresh rolls to start with. The fresh rolls were the worst that I have ever eaten. They were filled with lettuce and....well pretty much just a bunch of lettuce. The shrimp stuffed inside were anemic and tasted a bit "funny." On a positive note, the peanut sauce was standard. it would be really tough to mess that up! When the pho arrived, I immediately took a sip of the beef broth. It actually was not too bad but was loaded with too much black pepper. So much so that it collected at the bottom of the bowl. Now onto the meat - the combination bowl had a little of everything, but other than the tripe, my wife and I were not really sure what kind of meat the rest of the cuts were. Was it beef, or pork, or maybe even cat? Who knows. What is worse is that the texture of the meat was extremely rough and worst yet - it was about 90% fat. So we pretty much ordered a pepper spice soup with tripe, mystery meat, and fat balls. Yum! My advice would be to venture into Pittsburgh and try real Vietnamese food. I can offer many suggestions. I am no food expert, but I have eaten Vietnamese food all over the U.S. and overseas, and this was the worst food that I have ever eaten. read more

If you have yet to be indoctrinated in the cult of Pho, stop in and give it a try. For a very limited food choices area, I was stunned to be able to get a bowl with rare brisket and tendon. It was not perfect by any means, flavors a bit muted probably for local taste buds, but the broth was rich and flavorful. Also, the spring rolls and peanut sauce was a nice side. My only quibble was the rest of the menu was almost entirely boring amercanized chinese items. Still, A hot bowl of Pho in Y-Town is a phenomenal thing. As was said before, this only gets five stars because it's the best (perhaps only?) Vietnamese food you're going to get in Youngstown. It's not as good as the Vietnamese places you can find in any major city, or even those in Cleveland. But it is a pretty amazing luxury for us here in Youngstown. I ordered pho with rare beef and tendon. The broth was deliciously spiced and the meat was tasty as well. The mung beans, basil, and hot peppers were delicious and fresh. The portions were mind-bendingly huge, and it only set me back about $6.75. We ordered vegetarian summer rolls, which consisted of steamed rice paper stuffed with rice noodles and veggies. However, the only veggies in the rolls were some iceberg lettuce and a bit of cilantro. They were served with a peanut sauce which was simply not very good. I would definitely not recommend this appetizer. The other people in my party ordered vegetarian noodle soup with vegetables and tofu, and vermicelli noodles with beef. Both were pleased. The menu also includes traditional American-Chinese dishes for those who aren't down for some dank ass Vietnamese food. Overall, the entrees were great, and the service was super friendly. As long as you avoid the summer rolls, this place is a must-try for anyone in the Youngstown area. read more

We have been coming to this place for years. This is the first time we have ever left disappointed. I don't know what happened. I ordered the same thing I have (pho tai) for the last 3 years. We drive 30 miles to get to this place so we can have good pho. It used to be the best I'd ever had. This time both our soups came out cold. The noodles were way over cooked and the broth tasted different. Possibly old. Couldn't tell. They also have a new soda fountain. But you can tell the syrup is turned down lower than most places. I have worked at restaurants and know this is something some places do to conserve syrup. When we first started coming here, your plate of veggies was heaping. Now it's a few sprigs of bean sprouts one basil leave and a quarter of a lime. There use to be cilantro. And lots of basil. We told our waitress and we got a "oh I'm sorry".
