Terrible Wonton Soup...broth must have been made with a beef bouillon cube, with barely visible scallions (rehydrated?), and two, rubbery, old, tired wontons. Lunch entree consisted of tasteless fried rice (with two peas & not even a full cup) and General Tso's Chicken with sauce that was fully ketchup & barbecue based. Disgusting and gloopy. Always my go to place for Chinese food. They remodeled the restaurant and looks good. But something has been off with the food the last few times. on the last visit the fried rice had so much black pepper in We could not eat it, the chicken was hard and chewy. We got takeout and both meals were excellent. They were hot, tasty and large portions.

I think the food is just okay. We got the sesame shrimp and tso chicken and the sauce on both was sour. The fried rice was ok but just not the best. The crab Rangoon was nothing but cream cheese and the shrimp spring rolls literally just had cheese. I wasn't expecting the appetizers to be flooded with seafood but I expected some seafood. Definitely a rip off. China star is a lot better. read more

Tucked into a plaza just south of 224 it's easy to miss. It's got above average Chinese for the area with above average prices. The eat in area is a bit cramped with a few booths that all the carry out business has to walk right past. Not a bad place, I'm just not going to go out of my way to return with all of the dynamite food the Valley had to offer. read more

We were in Boardman the other day (Thursday the 24th) and decided it had been a little while since we ate in the restaurant, so we popped in for an early dinner. I ordered pork and vegetables, and my husband ordered chicken Pad Thai. And we split an order of eggrolls. I'm sorry to say that the restaurant has gone down hill. We're not sure if it's due to Covid, and things changed. Or if the quality has just gone that downhill. It was freezing cold in the dining area. The waitress was just shy of being rude she was so cold and pushy (Maybe she was literally cold. Ugh). The food wasn't good. My food tasted microwaved, the meat was literally cardboard. The Pad Thai was too sweet, no spice what-so-ever. There was hardly any chicken and the chicken he did get was a little slimy in texture. Even the eggroll's were terrible. Shanghai River has what I may call the best Americanized Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered it extra crispy and they definitely delivered in that area. The prices here are a smidge above average but that's ok I don't mind paying a little extra for food that is well prepared and flavorful. Tried Shang Hai River tonight after hearing it had some of the best food in the area. I could not make up mind my mind on what to get so got an assortment of things to have leftovers for lunch all week. I got the fried dumplings, Singapore Mei Fun and the Asparagus Chicken. The dumplings were good but I don't think they were scratch made. The chicken was very bland and was pretty much Moo Goo Gai Pan with asparagus. I had heard good things about this particular item so was disappointed in how dull it was. More ginger and garlic would really have perked it up. The Mei Fun was the start of the 3 dishes but also pretty bland for a "spicy" dish. Having said that, it had good flavor and the pork in the dish was very good so will try a pork dish next time. The restaurant is take out only with a station setup to do contactless pickup. The restaurant itself seems pretty small so distancing will be difficult when they do decide to reopen for indoor dining. Was it the best in the area? For Chinese maybe, for Asian overall no, there are better bites to be had in Boardman. read more

I went yesterday with my mom and a friend. It was pretty good. We started with the crab rangoons which might have been the best ones I have ever had and I order them everywhere. I ordered a combination dinner so out next was wonton soup, which was also very tasty. I ordered chicken teriyaki and steamed white rice and the entrees was just okay. My mom ordered Shanghai shrimp which was delicious. The shrimp were plump and it had a great sauce. Fortune cookies for dessert. Our server was also great. He provided great service and was very nice. The place is really small and really dated. The plates had chips and things, but overall it was good. read more

Hot and sour soup had plenty of ingredients - but none held any flavor. Either it's all canned or it's sat there at temp for hours, likely both. "Crab" Rangoon is below average and lazily made. Flavors are there but the balance between the textures is lacking immensely. The first entree of King Pao Chicken May have been the worst dish I have ever spent money on. It didn't smell good, there weren't any flavors. Very unlikely this dish was even fresh, it definitely wasn't cooked in a seasoned wok. The General Tso chicken was below average. It's just fried chicken with sauce and they couldn't even get that right. Regardless, if you have a craving, and don't particularly care about quality food then this is your spot. I give this restaurant 5/5 due to where it is. If it were in a major city I may give it a 4/5. Here's my reasoning. It's very rare to find Chinese food this authentic n great quality in a small town. Frankly I'm simply amazed how good the food here Is. It's a very small restaurant with just a few booths and one table. It's very clean inside. Every time I've been here the food has been great. Very consistent. Their hot n sour soup is loaded with ingredients. Often restaurants will skimp. But not here. U know what? I don't care where this place is located. This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Mahoning County! Their fried rice alone would have me visiting everyday if possible. It is cooked to perfection & is "THE BEST" fried rice I've ever eaten. Their Hot & Sour soup is 5 star as well! My favorite dishes are Walnut Chicken, Chicken Egg Foo Young & Mu Shu Pork (it's on the appetizer list) but I get it as a meal. I'll be sure to post more photos in the future but the few I did post you'll see just how beautiful the food is & taste is better than even how it looks!
