Best Chinese in town. My husband and I love this restaurant. The egg rolls are always delicious and crispy. We usually order a cozy quart of Wonton Soup. It's very delicious and surprisingly filling. The wonton has a generous and delicious beef/pork filling. read more

Great food, this place is my new favorite. Highly recommend. They use glass drink wear and ceramic plates. This may not mean much for some but it made my experience here better. read more

Love the food here! Great quality food and service. The wait is never too long and the prices are very affordable

Ordered dinner last week and they said 20-minutes for take-out...after an hour and 10 minutes later, I walked out with no food. Never seen such ciaos and complete disregard to the dozen or so also waiting. I got a call from them nearly another hour after I left. I gave them 2-stars because the food I have had in the past was really good. read more

The food look great for sure but so bland and gross. The fried rice is the worst we have ever had in 7 states, $38 dollars all went in trash. The egg rolls tasted like dirty dish water. I do mean nothing was edible. If u think this place is good u obviously have never had real Chinese or flavor read more

I was hoping for a better meal...Subpar Chinese Food at best. Miserable waitress...No smile, no welcome, nothing. Terrible Wonton Soup...broth must have been made with a beef bouillon cube, with barely visible scallions (rehydrated?), and two, rubbery, old, tired wontons. Lunch entree consisted of tasteless fried rice (with two peas & not even a full cup) and General Tso's Chicken with sauce that was fully ketchup & barbecue based. Disgusting and gloopy. Didn't finish the meal. $9.75 for lunch. Go to House of China Restaurant up the road, they have far better food. read more

Shang Hai River - General Tso's Chicken & Fried Rice - Tasteless rice and chicken full of ketchup-barbecue-based sauce. Don't bother. - Chinese Near Me - Youngstown, Ohio

Very rude employee's, disrespectful and talking trash about the customers in a foreign languag, I do not recommend eating there.

Ambiance was absent. The food was simply not good. Though the steamed dumplings were OK but justok

Always my go to place for Chinese food. They remodeled the restaurant and looks good. But something has been off with the food the last few times. on the last visit the fried rice had so much black pepper in We could not eat it, the chicken was hard and chewy. We threw away more than we ate. I don't know if it's a new cook or new management but it was not the same quality. read more

The current Shanghai River Restaurant has changed a lot in terms of environment, food and service.

Great service and the food was delicious. The House Lo Mein and chicken egg fu yung were both authentic and mouth watering. Definitely will be back! read more

I think the food is just okay. We got the sesame shrimp and tso chicken and the sauce on both was sour. The fried rice was ok but just not the best. The crab Rangoon was nothing but cream cheese and the shrimp spring rolls literally just had cheese. I wasn't expecting the appetizers to be flooded with seafood but I expected some seafood. Definitely a rip off. China star is a lot better. read more

Chicken lo mein and crab rangoons were good! Food was on time for take out and staff was friendly

Tucked into a plaza just south of 224 it's easy to miss. It's got above average Chinese for the area with above average prices. The eat in area is a bit cramped with a few booths that all the carry out business has to walk right past. Not a bad place, I'm just not going to go out of my way to return with all of the dynamite food the Valley had to offer. read more

We got takeout and both meals were excellent. They were hot, tasty and large portions.

Its good. Just order. Ive eaten here several times and its always hot and just the way you would expect. read more

We were in Boardman the other day (Thursday the 24th) and decided it had been a little while since we ate in the restaurant, so we popped in for an early dinner. I ordered pork and vegetables, and my husband ordered chicken Pad Thai. And we split an order of eggrolls. I'm sorry to say that the restaurant has gone down hill. We're not sure if it's due to Covid, and things changed. Or if the quality has just gone that downhill. It was freezing cold in the dining area. The waitress was just shy of being rude she was so cold and pushy (Maybe she was literally cold. Ugh). The food wasn't good. My food tasted microwaved, the meat was literally cardboard. The Pad Thai was too sweet, no spice what-so-ever. There was hardly any chicken and the chicken he did get was a little slimy in texture. Even the eggroll's were terrible. The filling was a greasy soggy mess. The best part of the meal was the duck sauce in a packet. Talk about a let down. Another one bites the dust? read more

Shanghai River has what I may call the best Americanized Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered it extra crispy and they definitely delivered in that area. The prices here are a smidge above average but that's ok I don't mind paying a little extra for food that is well prepared and flavorful. Ended up getting the General Tso combo and I must say that they "put their foot in it". Ver delicious and will make sure I stop here often! Friendly service and clean establishment. read more

Ordered a large takeout order for an family visit late lunch. Several noodle dishes, main entrees and rice. All were flavorful and good. Nothing spectacular, but large quantity and fresh ingredients. read more

Tried Shang Hai River tonight after hearing it had some of the best food in the area. I could not make up mind my mind on what to get so got an assortment of things to have leftovers for lunch all week. I got the fried dumplings, Singapore Mei Fun and the Asparagus Chicken. The dumplings were good but I don't think they were scratch made. The chicken was very bland and was pretty much Moo Goo Gai Pan with asparagus. I had heard good things about this particular item so was disappointed in how dull it was. More ginger and garlic would really have perked it up. The Mei Fun was the start of the 3 dishes but also pretty bland for a "spicy" dish. Having said that, it had good flavor and the pork in the dish was very good so will try a pork dish next time. The restaurant is take out only with a station setup to do contactless pickup. The restaurant itself seems pretty small so distancing will be difficult when they do decide to reopen for indoor dining. Was it the best in the area? For Chinese maybe, for Asian overall no, there are better bites to be had in Boardman. read more

I went yesterday with my mom and a friend. It was pretty good. We started with the crab rangoons which might have been the best ones I have ever had and I order them everywhere. I ordered a combination dinner so out next was wonton soup, which was also very tasty. I ordered chicken teriyaki and steamed white rice and the entrees was just okay. My mom ordered Shanghai shrimp which was delicious. The shrimp were plump and it had a great sauce. Fortune cookies for dessert. Our server was also great. He provided great service and was very nice. The place is really small and really dated. The plates had chips and things, but overall it was good. read more

absolutely delicious best Chinese takeout I've ever had. Everything was full of flavor and was not just full of salt like most Chinese food places around here read more

I give this restaurant 5/5 due to where it is. If it were in a major city I may give it a 4/5. Here's my reasoning. It's very rare to find Chinese food this authentic n great quality in a small town. Frankly I'm simply amazed how good the food here Is. It's a very small restaurant with just a few booths and one table. It's very clean inside. Every time I've been here the food has been great. Very consistent. Their hot n sour soup is loaded with ingredients. Often restaurants will skimp. But not here. U know what? I don't care where this place is located. Even in a big city w loads of competition I still rate it a 5. The staff is very welcoming as well. read more

The best chinese you will have in your life! I have tried many different places but nothing can compare to Shang Hai. I've been coming here for over 10 years and I have never been disappointed. read more

Hot and sour soup had plenty of ingredients - but none held any flavor. Either it's all canned or it's sat there at temp for hours, likely both. "Crab" Rangoon is below average and lazily made. Flavors are there but the balance between the textures is lacking immensely. The first entree of King Pao Chicken May have been the worst dish I have ever spent money on. It didn't smell good, there weren't any flavors. Very unlikely this dish was even fresh, it definitely wasn't cooked in a seasoned wok. The General Tso chicken was below average. It's just fried chicken with sauce and they couldn't even get that right. Regardless, if you have a craving, and don't particularly care about quality food then this is your spot. Personally, wouldn't go here again. What is this place known for - maybe it's worth trying those read more

Omg this is the best Chinese restaurant we've found in the area so far! So fresh, lots of veggies, and a good price. We order online and pick up. They are attentive to special instructions also (like "mild"). read more

Clean, fresh ingredients, nice people but not very exciting. Kung Pao Chicken was pretty bland. Needs more spice and stronger flavors. Same with wife's garlic broccoli and mushrooms. Good quality but needs a kick of flavor. If you're not a spice or heat fan you'll be happy. If you like hot and spicy bring your own firecracker or Siracha sauce. read more

Excellent Chinese food! We enjoyed the soup, egg rolls and both of the main courses. The service was wonder as well. We will definitely be back, as we have found our new go-to for Chinese food. read more

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Mahoning County! Their fried rice alone would have me visiting everyday if possible. It is cooked to perfection & is "THE BEST" fried rice I've ever eaten. Their Hot & Sour soup is 5 star as well! My favorite dishes are Walnut Chicken, Chicken Egg Foo Young & Mu Shu Pork (it's on the appetizer list) but I get it as a meal. I'll be sure to post more photos in the future but the few I did post you'll see just how beautiful the food is & taste is better than even how it looks! Oh, & the family style meals are so much fun to order as well. Be sure to try this restaurant if you love Chinese! read more
