Ate here last year and food was good, but this was my first Pho experience and I had nothing to compare it to. Tried to eat here the other night closing time is advertised as 10pm. Came in around 9:20 and we were told they were closing too soon to serve anyone else so we left disappointed. 40 minutes is more than enough time to serve a bowl of Pho and if you plan to close doors at a much earlier time this should be reflected online and on the doors. read more

My sister and I stopped by for some take out Pho. We were driving home from a movie and were looking for something to eat late on a Sunday night. Not much is open in Bear/New Castle after 10pm on a Sunday night and when we saw this place open, we thought it would be better than pizza. There was a large Vietnamese family eating right in front and I always take it as a good sign when you can tell people are familiar with a specific cuisine will eat at the restaurant you are visiting. The young teenage girl that took our order was really nice and asked us if we ever had Pho before (no, first time). She warned us about the beef being raw, which was nice of her. I thought the meat would be in there while we drove home and would be cooking but she explained that we would have to put it in when we opened up our containers at home. My sister and I tend to be adventurous eaters so we weren't concerned but I appreciate the warning. I'm sure other people could have been freaked out. It was really good: still piping hot after we got it home. They packaged all the different ingredients for the Pho really well for us. Soup can be a disaster as take out. One order of the beef pho was more than enough for the two of us. We also got some beef and rice noodle dish which was lack luster. The beef was good but there wasn't any sauce and too many noodles. I imagine it would have been better if we were eating in because I've heard that Vietnamese is all about the condiments. The Spring rolls were great. I don't remember the decor being amazing or bad, but again, we got take out. We hit the strip mall up a little late on a Sunday night. It was deserted and didn't look like the best place to be late at night but there were two of us and we were able to park right in front. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't go back. I would definitely eat here again, during the day by myself, no problem. If it was getting really late at night, I might not hit up that parking lot by myself. read more

Went back for more takeout and ordered the #55 specialty beef stew pho and it was delicious! Not too greasy and the flavor was so vibrant! The chunks of beef were tender with no fat. I'll be returning~ especially when it starts to get cooler outside! read more

Never again. For the record, my favorite food is Pho. I'll drive a good 15 miles to get a quality Pho. I gave this place three chances, only because it's the closest to my house. I wanted it to be good! The broth is flavorless, and it's not just a certain cook (trust me, I tried lunch and dinner). Also, when I pick up my order, the staff appears annoyed I'm there and have conversations with themselves as I'm standing there ordering - very terrible customer service. I'm only giving the second star for the price range of the food. Service was slow and rude, very short answers to our questions, no one that was working there tonight smiled. The food wasn't fresh, bean sprouts and jalapeños were turning brown, I didn't even eat the broccoli. I got the veggie pho and it was lacking! 2 veggies - broccoli and carrots - that's it ! broth had no flavor, I had to create my own flavor loading it up with the extras yet it still just tasted like boiled water. First and last time going to this place. Came during lunch time (barely any customers) and ordered 2 soups, spring roll and a grilled beef with rice dish. The spring roll came out not even 5mins after we ordered which was cold and had no flavor. The soup bowls followed -- very bland and cheap on the meat. The beef and rice dish came last -- the meat was NOT "GRILLED".. Or if it was it was very cold when we got it. Gave it back to the server and told her it was too cold.. Came back out a min later-- they microwaved the WHOLE plate.. Including the salad!! WTH?! We also asked for water which the server never brought out.. We had to ask for some again... Very disappointed with this place.. No offense to the people giving it 5 stars but you must not have tasted real vietnamese food before and are missing out on the real deal. Will stick to driving up to philly for better pho. read more

We visited our families in Delaware last week and did what we have done for the past few years ... to get our Vietnamese Pho fix at Pho Nhu Vu. #31 is still excellent. Service is friendly and fast. It was a delicious and healthy dinner that we all enjoyed. A side note to YELP's site masters/administrators: While it's fair for our members to express their honest opinions about the food and service from restaurants they visit, generalization such as "Delawareans will eat any kind of crap that you put in front of them" is offending and we "Delawareans" do feel offended. You should not condone with similar oversimplification about certain population, groups or affiliates. Thanks for paying attention. read more

The service wasn't great. Waitress seemed to be confused 3 times out of the 6 times I interacted with her. She didn't even know what shrimp paste was... Ordered pho with brisket, steak, tendon, tripe... didn't get any tripe and had to flip the noodles in the bowl for them to prove to them the tripe wasn't in there. I am from the Bay Area, California. This place sucked. I went to this place based on the other reviews and because I was craving Pho. The spring rolls were missing mint and were filled with noodles. The dipping sauce was good though. The soup was hot, but watered down and tasteless. I do not put all the "extra" sauces that some people do. But the place didnt have sarracha. Isn't that a staple? I will never go here again. The price for a bowl of Pho Tai was $8, I can get a better bowl in the SF for $5 that is super yummy. read more

ok, i'm stuck in newark, DE for 2wks and dammit, who the h*ll's gonna last 2wks without pho?! so i did what every ordinary person would do. i go to yelp and checkout the reviews, read the highest rated one and go eat. As it turns out, everyone was right. I had something similar to pho. The food was authentic (tasted like a vietnamese person cooked it), pretty cheap (no tax in delaware), great service (waiter was really nice - half vietnamese/hispanic kid?). Bottom line, if you are sick of burgers and pizza, then this is what you need. I'll probably go again tomorrow. read more

if you're looking for a pho shop because you're in the newark area passing through DO NOT EAT HERE! if i could give this place no stars i would. i walked in and they were already staring me down. i had my 2 kids with me under the ages of 4 and of course we're going to be making some noise. i let the kids play with the chopsticks and this old guy from behind the counter comes over and tells me that i shouldn't let my kids play with the chopsticks cause they're going to stick it up their noses and they're going to go to the emergency room. i was like wtf?! my kid accidently drops the plastic bowl sauce bowl and the waitresses look over the counter give me a dirty look and continue to stare at me. and don't you know it as a protective mother i stared right back. anyways, we ordered the summer rolls (fresh rolls), the pho (house special) and some coconut juice. the summer rolls were expensive for just 2 rolls and they were the standard rolls with shrimp, old lettuce, and noodles. nothing special or extra herbs like mint or cilantro or even the thai basil. the sauce for the rolls were watery tasting. the pho, NO TASTE! i had to put in hoisin and sriracha how many times and had to ask for fish sauce! the veggie sides - the typical basil leaves, lime and bean sprouts. the bean sprouts looked like it was old. the plus side was that the meats were tender but the noodles were soggy. the coconut juice tasted like it had dishwashing soap poured into it. i paid for a coconut dish washing soaped drink. no, i didn't drink it. we're laotian/thai and we've had pho in hawaii, japan, thailand, laos, california, iowa, ohio, maryland and this place has got to be the worst of them all. save your money and go somewhere else! read more

First off, let's get one thing straight- you don't come to a pho restaurant expecting top notch service. It doesn't exist. However what does exist here is the best tasting pho in all of Delaware, hands down. Come for the food, not the service. If you want good service go try Applebee's. When this place first opened a few years ago we came here not know what pho even was! We had no clue how to eat it or evenwhat to order. Since then we have developed a special love and passion for pho. We've tasted all the best phos in LA (cali) when my bf moved out there and we STILL come right back to our fav pho place in DE. We love the freshness of the basil, bean sprouts, limes (juicy limes! Makes be vey excited) etc... The broth is so flavorful yet light and oh so comforting to drink. The noodles dont stick to eachother when chopsticked up. The tai in my pho tai is perfect ! The grape leaves are my fav and the mango bubble tea could be better if it we actual mango juice. But i have a special place in my heart and tummy for this place... The owners are always so nice and welcoming. we make a trip here whenever we are in the area =) read more

It's time for a Pho and I was in Bear, Delaware where Pho Nhu Vu is nestled in the strip mall. Bear in mind that you have to bear to the right at Pulaski Hwy rt 40 coming from the north to get to Pho NV, because you might miss it. I miss Pho since it's been awhile I have had a hot oxtail broth with brisket, flank stips of beef noodles in this hot, humid dog days of summer. But curiosity repeats itself and I found myself skipping to cook my grocery. Make sounds and you'll hear the slurping at Bear that this Pho is phontastic. While you are in between PA and MD, why not bear here? read more

This is the worse pho restaurant i ever been to. The waitress is really rude and unprofessional. She don't even bring out water. When she takes our order she don't even ask what side of pho we wanted. She just assumed the size and bring out two bowl of pho. Talking about the quality of pho, it was not taste like pho. The chopstick is reuse and so old and has black mark on it. The beef flank super smelly. I really disappointed . We ordered smoothies and they put a small straw in the cup. I wonder how we suppose to suck up smoothies with that kind of straw? I will never be back here. By looking at the re use chopstick they use i don't even know what they do in the back of the kitchen. This place was excellent. I am a bit of an amateur when it comes to Vietnamese food, but I took the advice of the person I was with and really enjoyed my meal. I wasn't expecting much given the location and storefront, but the place was nice on the inside and the food was great. I had a bowl with pork, noodles, and salad with an egg roll. Great service. The food comes out so quickly. Got the summer rolls for appetizer which were very good. I got the steak and brisket pho and my fiancé got the steak, brisket, flank pho which he really enjoyed. We have the mange cheesecake which was delicious. Overall, the food is good and the atmosphere is nice, the restaurant is well decorated. Don't let the bad reviews turn you away from getting some local Pho that doesn't require you to go to Philly. read more

I really like the Pho here. I eat Pho at other places, but Pho Nhu Vu is my favorite. They have great veggie spring rolls and grilled stuffed grape leafs, but its the Pho that I come for. I and my co-workers like it so much that we often eat here two or three times per week. My favorite is the chicken Pho. The broth is clear, complex but not too salty or overly seasoned. They give you plenty of basil, peppers and lime wedges, as well as fresh bean sprouts for those who like them. Though I am not a fan of beef, my friends say the beef Pho is very good as well. Though the menu is not extensive, the place is always clean, the staff friendly and the food is reasonably priced. Great place for lunch! read more

Do not order the pho here! I ordered the little shrimp spring rolls, 2 ice milk coffee and 2 pho with my boyfriend. Pho was flavorless, service was terrible, they use very strong ammonia to clean the tables, so every bite of flavorless pho tasted like windex. Not much to choose from in Delaware but don't go here unless you want bad food and service.. that being said, the coffee is good. read more

I've eaten here several times and each time it was consistently good. I definitely would recommend eating in verse taking out so that you experience the freshness of the food as soon as it comes out rather then it being put into a container to allow the noodles to overly soften. Ok, so I've only been here once, while passing through from Bethlehem, PA and I ate the food once I got home in Baltimore- soooo, take this review with a grain of salt -unlike my other reviews which are gospel ;) It's a little weird that it is in a strip mall, but that's never stopped me before. I was hopeful and, while what I selected was limited, I still like Saigon Remembered on York Road better. ~ Summer Roll- it was cold and the shrimp looked like they were encased in a weird cellophane wrap. There were lots of bean sprouts (I hope they were washed...). It was good with the sauce, but having it COLD with the chewey/gummy wrap was not the best. Maybe it didn't travel well? ~ Egg rolls - good. Average, nothing to write home to mama about ~Steak & Brisket Pho - OK, so I've had limited exposure to Pho and this was a VERY flavorful dish. Not mu favorite, BUT I could tell it was good and high quality- just my personal preference that I didn't like it. I could also tell that the people who packaged my dish were very 'intense' as I did not realize that Pho was more of an 'event' meal - they painstakingly wrapped and packaged all of the accompaniments to the dish/soup for me. I was very impressed with this- more so than the actual dish. ~Grilled Chicken- Maybe I'm a simple simon, but this dish was yummy. It reminded me of the chicken on a stick that one can get at a festival. Came with plain old white rice - I ate it up! I LOVE unusual dishes so it really surprised me that I preferred this over the soup. With all of this said, I know I've only been here once- and for take out, but I STILL prefer Miss Saigon on York Road (Baltimore) better - and I've been there plenty. read more
