I've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the food. Always loved the pho and summer rolls. Menu hasn't changed but it appears to be under new management over the last few years. Food quality is now good but not great. A recent meal, amount of protein in the pho was maybe 2 Oz (which I felt was insufficient), spring rolls were tasty but small for the price, but the spring rolls were enjoyable. I guess I REALLY like Bun Bo Xao. :-) I was a bit surprised to realize that the last time I visited Pho Mi, I ALSO got Bun Bo Xao (lemongrass beef with vermicelli). That was back in 2019, 5 years ago! While doing some running around yesterday, I stopped by Pho Mi to get some lunch. I started with Goi Cuon & Bi Cuon (shrimp & pork rolls), and they were excellent. Sorry, no pictures of the appetizers. :-) For my lunch, I got Bun Bo Xao. SOMETHING had really changed (for the better) since my 2019 visit. While I still noted no lemongrass, cilantro, or basil in the dish, it had generous toppings of sliced green onion, daikon radish, carrots, cucumber, and iceberg lettuce, along with a good scoop of chopped peanuts. The thinly sliced been was served in a brown sauce. What REALLY caught my attention this time was the smoky "wok hei" (to steal a Chinese phrase) flavor in the beef. VERY noticeable. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked, and not "hot" (as I'd experienced back in 2019). Served on the table with your food is an assortment of sauces (see picture). Hoisin, Sriracha (red cap, ??newer?? version), and chopped chiles in oil. I added a couple spoonfuls of the chopped chiles to my Goi Cuon dipping sauce, and also added the chile/oil mix to the sweetened vinegar sauce served with the Bun Bo Xao (which can be added to the dish). The only reason I downgraded my review from 5 stars to 4 was the lack of herbs & lemongrass flavor in the Bun Bo Xao. Next time I go, I'll probably ask for some cilantro & basil to mix into the dish. Service was excellent, the seating area was nice & clean. Noise level from the TV was not excessive at all. A very pleasant lunch. read more

We both shared 2 spring rolls and ordered beef pho (rice noodle soup). He got the 25 which was spicy.. I got 15 but they bring bottles of chili sauces and fish sauce to season to your preference. They bring a plate of sprouts,herbs and jalapenos. I put it all in the pho. I future I would skip the herbs ..maybe ask for extra sprouts. We have had allergies and sinus so hot brothy Soup hit the spot. They were super helpful and nice. Checked on us several times. Had some to take home .. huge bowls. The only "negative " was I'm awful with chopsticks... I like the kind your supposed to break apart. But I keep them together and use them like wooden tweezers ... then twirl the noodles. It's not correct proper way but it's my way. Their chopsticks were already separated. The spoon was huge wide and I just twirled noodles with fork. My Asian friends would be embarrassed. Nice eatery. I like to stop by Pho Mi if I don't have time to cook in the evening but want to opt out for something on the healthier side. The food is always super fresh and delicious. I often get Pho Sou - a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of beef broth, and rice noodles. So yummy! We used to come a lot but the place is going downhill. The boba was mostly ice cubes. It was blended boba so it should have not have ice cubes because that means most of it is ice in some form. The flavoring was also weak telling me they used less powder. My wife and daughter didn't even finish theirs. The chicken curry was gritty and tasted like the junk that comes premixed at grocery store... not the kind from a restaurant. My wife's pho was watered down. We used to love the broth here. A good portion of the menu was marked off. The price of boba went up and they still skimped on the actual ingredients. Place has definitely gone down hill over the years in quality. I have been ordering from Pho Mi for years and have never had a complaint. Their dine in service is great. However, I was really let down this evening. I ordered the shrimp and pork sate soup 31. Hu Tieu Tom Thit Sate and this is what they gave me to put in the broth. 4 shrimp. The pork is in the lid. The pile at the top is edible pork and at the bottom is pieces of fat. I have always ordered this dish and the quality was great but not this time. I also ordered a beef banh mi sandwich and was given beef noodle soup. I'm really disappointed I spent $36 on this food. I always order this because the broth is flavorful, there's ample and varying types of meat, and it's served with a side plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, a lime wedge, and sliced jalapeños to add to your soup. Really good, and the soup always arrives steaming hot, which I like. Before ordering today, I asked my friend to please remind me to take a picture of the food when it arrives this time. Nope! You're going to ask - why so critical? We spent over ten years living in San Francisco and I've personally eaten at 100s of Pho joints. I know my pho and Asian cuisine. The pho is just okay. I got the #17 and to me the way they prepare their soup tastes like what they believe Midwest/Ohioans think typical Asian flavors are supposed to be: non-existent. It was basically flavorless beef broth, which is the opposite of what Vietnamese pho is supposed to be. It should be aromatic, bold and full of rich flavor. It was just sorta, meh. And they did not strain the fat so it was super fatty to boot. My wife had the #16 and it was roughly the same, though not as fatty. They do have a cute kids pho (#10) that is mostly fresh veggies and some meat. The spring rolls were good. The boba shakes - skip it. It wasn't made with real fruit or even frozen fruit. They were made with powdered flavoring and ice. I'll try it again for the Bahn mi next time. Maybe that is where they shine? For Pho, there really is only one good option in Dayton and that is Lihn's Bistro by the base. read more

Vegan Review: I have had my fair share of Vietnamese food whilst in Houston and this place IS NOT VIETNAMESE rather CHINESE. My husband's banh mi was not on the traditional French baguette. The "veggie roll" had pork in it. My lemongrass tofu was a stir fry in a brown sauce. Though I wouldn't have eaten it, it was served with sweet chili sauce not fish sauce with sugar and chiles. Was in Dayton near the end of the first week of a two week training course. Started craving some rice, so I looked on Yelp for an Asian restaurant. Pho Mi popped up nearby. Pho Mi has a good amount of parking and the interior was pretty spacious. Went through to the Com (rice) section and found the pork chops. Got that with a side order of spring rolls and a beer. The food soon came, nice and hot. The marinated pork chop tasted as expected, and the rice hit the spot! Total bill with tip was $19, pretty average. I ordered the Com Bi Suon Nuong and quickly realized this "Vietnamese" restaurant had no Vietnamese employees. This place is pretty good. My boyfriend and I liked our meals. I can't remember what they were called, but he got a noodle dish with chicken and I got one with beef. When we ordered the server told us they were out of egg noodles and it was a confusing interaction because he said they only had stir fry noodles and not pan fry noodles. We didn't really know what he was talking about so we just told him any kind of soft noodles would be fine. ‍ That was the only hiccup, but it's not a complaint. It was all good. I gave them four stars because of the overall experience. The place was quiet, only a few other customers there, the service was prompt and courteous and the food was good! It wasn't five star good, but it's worth going back to try other dishes. Also, the beef wasn't great quality. I ended up taking it out and just eating the noodles with the veggies. This is my favorite Pho spot. Even compared to west coast options, I prefer Pho Mi hands down. They greet you in a timely manner, get you your drinks quickly, the prices are reasonable, and your delicious food comes as soon as you finish your appetizer. Perfection. Under new management. I ate here every week for years and the new food is nothing like the old. I order a spicy meatball Pho which had a bland weird (mint?) broth. The noodles were a sticky blob of mush. The sliced meatball was weird and bland. It had some sliced beef which wasn't in the order and and tough and inedible. I ordered a combo sate rice "noodle" dish and received a teriyaki rice dish despite a lengthy conversation because I could tell the person taking the order was clueless. Even the crab rangoon was a downgrade. So bummed. Ugh. Hope to find the previous owners somewhere new. read more

Let me start by saying that I dont just love Vietnamese food...I'm obsessed with it! I crave it! I travel for work regularly and have made it my mission to try every Vietnamese place I can find. The time I found my self I. Dayton OH. I got the Pho Tai Bo Vien (beef pho with sliced steak and meatballs), the classic Bahn Mi with bbq pork and liver pate and a Milk Tea Boba. I ordered thru Uber eats this time but the price, before Uber fees and tip was ~$26, which was not bad for the amount of food. Starting with the Pho, even though it was delivered the broth was hot enough to burn my mouth. The broth was not the best I've had but it was not the worst. It was a little too salty for me and a little too fatty cause g a coating in my lips and tongue. But was still full of flavor and aroma. The 2 big lime wedges help cut thru some of the fattiness so that helped a lot. The meatballs were delicious. Great texture and super flavorful. Over all I give the pho a 7.6 out of 10. The Boba Milk Tea was also just ok. I thought it was a bit too sweet and the tapioca pearls were on the mushy side. I'd give it a 6.4 out of 10. Now the Bahn Mi....it was amazing! One of the best I've had. The pork was tender and had a ton of flavor. The plate was rich and creamy and the pickled carrots were just right to cut thru some of the richness. Definitely the highlight of the meal. 9.6 out of 10. Over all, I'd say if you're in the mood for Vietnamese, this would not be a bad place to try. read more

This was my first Pho experience. We knew we were going to be in Dayton so we were Yelping around to see where we may want to grab a bite and decided on Pho Mi because not only had we both never had Pho (and wanted to try it) but this place had good reviews. The restaurant is nothing fancy, which I kind of like. We were seated right away and offered menus from a very attentive and patient waiter. Since we were unsure of what to order we ordered the appetizer sampler. It was good, I liked the butterfly chicken the best and the shish-kabob I would skip. Next, I ordered Pho Tai, a beef noodle soup, since it was listed as the house special. It was good, but relatively bland. However, this is most likely my fault since I played it so safe in my ordering. My boyfriend, however, was more adventurous and ordered Hu Tieu Tom Thit State, a spicy shrimp and pork state noodle soup. This was spicy!! But really good. I loved the flavor added by the bean sprouts and cilantro they serve with the soup for you to add to your preference. But hands down, the big standout for me was the Vietnamese iced coffee. So wonderful. I have always wanted to try some and was not disappointed. Looking forward to more experiences with Pho. read more

Heard about this place from friends. Tried it , had the Pho and bahn mi sandwich. Very impressed. The restaurant is very clean, friendly and an extensive menu. Came here for a late lunch/early dinner about 3-4 pm on a weekday. There were about three other tables during the time I was there. Quick and helpful service to order for a first timer. A nice lady recommended a dish for me that was great. I requested my dish spicy and it did have some heat but never as much as I need. There were reinforcements at the table though. The noodles with chicken and veggies dish was phenomenal!! Great flavors!! It was so huge too that I got three portions out of it. The only thing I would change is the server never came back to check on me or see if I needed anything. That would have been nice. That's the only reason not 5 stars.
