This is so dumb. Why is one of my most consistent experiences with DC pho hosted by a food truck of all things? Leave it to Pho Junkies to subvert expectations and actually deliver quality food. I honestly ordered the pho as a joke since there was no way it'd actually be good, but I'll be damned. Broth actually had a depth of flavor to it with a barrage of meats, plus they gave me a separate baggie for meats on request to drop when I got home. In terms of other farings, the cha gio/spring rolls had a super authentic Vietnamese filling. Only downside is getting it from said food truck - would love to sit down at a table and grovel longer, but I've always found these guys in popping places like Dupont with little to no bench space. But don't be put off by the potentially tacky truck decor - the food is just as bombastic as their truck. read more

This is where food is so good it makes you smile. I have been here twice now, the most recent time alone so I could really take in the ambiance of the place. The staff is extremely respectful and fantastic. I always felt very very welcomed and valued as soon as I came into the restaurant. The ambiance is calm and relaxing, some place where you go after a long day of work. The food is perfect. I have had the chicken and beef pho and both were delicious. Pho Junkies reopened relatively recently after being closed for the better part of a year. The good news: it's just as good now as it was a year ago. Absolutely hit the spot, with delicious broth, great noodles, and delicious meat. It's just fantastic. The unfortunate news: their hours (especially on weekends, when a lunchtime spot would be great) are reduced. But it makes sense - they are still a relatively small operation (just a cook and front-of-the-house guy), handling most logistics via Toast online ordering. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Saturday or Sunday lunch fix soon, but that doesn't detract at all from the fantastic pho. read more

I've been living in Navy Yard for almost 2 years and had no idea this place existed. It even looked closed on the outside, but it's definitely open. When we walked in, it smelled just like home and I knew it was going to be good when their menu only had 3 types of pho dishes and 2 apps. The noodles were perfect and the beef was sooo TENDER! Soup is always delicate and delicious and the noodles are perfectly firm without me having to ask for it. Excellent quality meats, as well. Yeah, it's gotten a bit more expensive, but it's in DC and Navy Yard. so it's still worth it easily for me. It was only two guys running the restaurant, so my friends and I had to wait about 50 minutes for our food, but the waiter was very apologetic about the wait time. If you're in the Navy Yard area and craving a bowl of noodle soup this is the place to go, but if you're in the mood for authentic pho- keep on searching! My friends and I got: - Spring rolls: These were $9 for 4 tiny pieces. Although they were good, it was definitely not worth the price. - Chicken and beef pho: Each bowl of pho we got totaled to $16-17, with tax and tip it came out to over $20 for each bowl. Probably the most expensive pho I've ever had. The broth is slightly different from authentic pho broth, it's smokey but still good, just not my cup of tea. I remember when this brand only existed as a food truck down on L'Enfant Plaza. Glad to see they have moved up in the world to now having a "physical" restaurant. PROS: - very good pho that is well prepared. The meats and vegetables are especially fresh and you get good portions. - the management plays urban contemporary R&B and jazz. Don't know if he curates the music himself but he has good taste. - clean, trendy decor. Everything looks orderly (maybe too orderly), but that's a matter of opinion which leads me to my cons. - These are observances more than cons, and they are completely my own opinion. Number one, the atmosphere is almost too clean to the point of being sterile. You walk into the place and you immediately feel this isn't your standard pho restaurant environment. Most pho restaurants seen a little unkept looking; wait staff speaking Vietnamese to the cook staff, menus with pictures of pho dishes you can order, wait staff taking your order in bad English. I kind of like that type of atmosphere, but I respect the manager of this place trying to take things in a different direction. To each his own, right? - To add to this sterility of the place, the manager (or the person who seems to be the manager), always wears a face mask. He's nice enough but why the need to constantly wear a face mask when his assistant waiter doesn't? - Besides the QR code menu placards being meticulously placed on the tables (and I do mean meticuously), all facing the same direction and angle--not even a micro-inch off kilter. There are no physical menus. the manager/waiter brings out your food and drink and places everything in an overly precise and choreographed manner as if everything must be precisely placed at a precise point on your table. Seems like OCD behavior on steroids. I would end by saying this place makes great pho. But perhaps management should lighten up a bit and not be so overly conscious about appearances. If a placard is out of place when a customer comes in, it's ok. It's ok to just put food, drink and condiments on the customer's table without behaving like it's a precision drill. And the main time I want Pho is Saturday or Sunday late morning/lunch after a long night of drinking, however, they aren't operating those hours. Good place that opened about 3-4 weeks ago. Nice clean place. Super polite workers (owners?) that take customer service seriously. The pho broth is good coupled with the veggies is great. The broth isn't the saltiest which is a good thing seeing that most restaurants now just add too much salt to everything. I am a pho junkie! My boss swears this is one of the best food trucks in the DMV, and by far the best pho truck. I could never understand why, right around lunchtime, he would randomly exclaim, "The Pho Junkies truck is here today!!!" That is, until yesterday... I'm in the process of nursing a mild cold and a sore throat, and a bowl of delicious soup seemed like just what I needed. I've never been a big fan a pho, but after yesterday it is clear that I have not have it properly made. I was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about, but I just was not ready for all of the goodness that was in that cardboard carton. This soup is SO GOOD!! You can taste the star anise in the broth and it is just enough to be aromatic without being overpowering. I'm not a big fan of spicy food, but the jalapeno and the sriracha made an already awesome soup even more amazing. There was plenty of tender steak and chewy rice noodles to make this more than a fulling lunch. Now I understand why the line is always so long... it is well worth the wait! The guy who takes your order is always so nice and you can tell he really appreciates his customers. He takes a moment to bow in appreciation to each of his customers after they pay, and again when he presents them with their orders. Unexpected, but very cool.
