A cozy little house run by generations of family (whom are all working in house). The quality and pride going into the food here speaks volumes! I would say their shining dishes for me were the bun cha dish and the fried spring rolls. We had the pho which was flavorful but not my favorite (I'm just a picky gal). The rice paper used for the spring rolls were so crispy, the filling was nicely done with plenty of meat and woodear mushroom. The bun cha - well made, noodles were bouncy and the sauce accompanying it was perfect. Everyone knows you can judge a Vietnamese place on two things: their broths and their Nuoc Cham (homemade fishsauce). It's the holy grade of how other SE Asians set the bar for good eats. I ordered round eye steak and meatballs to-go via Uber Eats because who doesn't want pho when they're sick? but round eye isn't actually selectable on Uber Eats, so I had to put it in the notes. The meat arrived already cooked since it was packaged in the same container with the warm noodles, so I'm not sure I got what I ordered or if it was cooked by the heat of the noodles? The bean sprouts were slimy/mushy and the basil was the same quality, and there wasn't enough of either, especially since I had to pick through it all. They included three meatballs, but they were over half cartilage, the parts that weren't were tasty. The best part! the wide noodles were perfect (not overcooked and not mushy), the meat was still tender, and the broth was delicious, just fairly spicy, so taste before adding extra heat. We ended up picking a few things from the Rice section. My Shaking Beef was nice and tender. Generous rice portion, could use more beef though. The sauce was delicious. Came with a side if soup too, which was warm but a tad salty. Their Northern-Style Spring Rolls were fresh and crispy. Super fresh and hot. We came on a busy Saturday and got seated quickly. We had the Saturday special which was Steamed Rice Rolls w/ Grilled Pork/Chicken and the sauce that came with it was tangy and bright and delicious. I loved the texture of this dish. I ordered the veggie pho with beef broth too. It was complex and comforting to my soul. I'd love to come back! Inside was cute and felt like walking inside an older home. My only suggestion is to please get rid of the air fresheners inside. My go-to Vietnamese restaurants in Portland typically serve southern/central Vietnamese food so I was craving some northern Vietnamese delicacies without traveling to the mainland. I was elated when I saw that Pho Hathanh was a new establishment offering northern Vietnamese cuisines in the metro Portland area. The place is cozy and the hospitality definitely made the dining experience feel homey. The crab noodle soup had a clean yet flavorful broth with a decent portion of ingredients for the price point. We came here for lunch as we were in the area. Its a nice cozy place that makes you feel like eating at home. We ordered an assortment of items to share - potsickers, salad rolls, bun cha, northern style beef stew w/banh mi, special banh mi, and shaking beef. The food came out pretty quickly which was nice. The server was very polite and quick to get us anything we needed. My favorite out of the items we ordered was the special banh mi. The bread was nicely toasted and the banh mi had some substance in it. I thought the shaking beef could have a bit more char on the meat and more flavor in the meat for the bun cha. read more

I don't think I was impressed with the pho (the whole debate of having the meat outside the pho so it's not over cooked by thee time I get it was just so irrelevant. Because they try to tell Me the law here and I am like uhhh you can serve my meat on the side but whatever you're closest open late restaurant). A quaint and cozy Northern Vietnamese restaurant with traditional helpings and good pho. PARKING: Street parking once again. We came early for lunch around 11 and there were plenty of places to park in the surrounding neighborhood. AMBIANCE: The inside is actually very cute. They have mostly indoor seating with some outdoor tables. Essentially looks like an older home that was renovated into a restaurant. The inside is clean and I love the paintings inside. SERVICE: The servers were friendly. We were seated within a few minutes of entering. Service was quick and efficient. We had some trouble communicating some of the things we wanted (chili oil) but otherwise they were very helpful. FOOD: I ordered their "Shaking Beef" and my partner ordered the special pho. For my dish I thought the flavours were good. Sweet and savory with umami in the fish sauce. The beef was a little tough and the bite sized pieces made them a bit tough to chew. It came with a side of soup which was basically the pho broth. The broth from my partner's pho had that rich deep flavour that I look for in pho. It was pretty good. It came with all the sides including bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño. The brisket, meat ball were delicious in the pho as well. They also didn't have the usual condiments out like the chili oil, hoisin sauce, Sriracha but they did offer when we asked. OVERALL: I wanted to give this place a 4, but we initially came because we thought they had banh cuon which their menu said they serve Saturdays but they did not have it (even though it was Saturday at like 1130). The pho was good and the beef was pretty good on flavour but portion and texture were not my favourite. There are still dishes I'd like to try on their menu so we will probably be back! read more

It's hard to find many options from northern Vietnam, so we had to get the true Northern dishes. The bun cha was delicious with plenty of fresh veggies to accompany it, I haven't had bun cha stateside this good since Hanoi. The pork is grilled well and the sauce is not too sweet or greasy. We also ordered the Bún Riêu Cua, it hit the spot and it was a nice portion but I wouldn't say it was the best I've had. I think a bit more depth in flavor and it would be perfect. I need to come here next time on a Saturday for their weekend specials (Those are especially hard to find in Portland) read more

I saw a TikTok video of this place and wanted to go try it. I haven't seen any other place with bun cha Hanoi on their menu or the fresh pho noodles. The pho was amazing the broth very flavorful and light does not need hoisin or siracha. As for the bun cha Hanoi it was such a big proportion and the flavor was perfectly light and refreshing. The pho broth was tasty, you can tell they used a lot of bones to make the broth. The meat was tender and flavorful. It also comes with pickle garlic, which goes very well with northern style pho.
