Pretty big fan of this place for the bahn mi, vermicelli, and the pho. I live relatively close so this is a go to place for take out and dine in. As everyone has already said, the bahn mi is delicious and really decently priced. The pork is just so yummy with the slightly pickled veggies. I usually do the pho during the warmer months and always have leftovers for lunch the next day. I recently ordered the vermicelli for takeout and really enjoyed it. I did have to ask for a side of hoisin and chili sauce so make sure to say that when you call in or order online. The meat was delicious but I will say I could have used an extra container of the vermicelli sauce for the noodles. Overall, this place has great costumer service (can occasionally be slow) and offers delicious food. read more

Finally tried this restaurant, too. Off Grant St; on a Sunday afternoon, parking was easy (I ordered takeout). Ordered #19, a Pho soup, including rice noodles, thin rare beef slices, well-done brisket, tendon, tripe, flank, and sliced meatballs. The broth came in its own well-sealed container, a plus when it won't be enjoyed right away (the noodles don't soak up the broth). A separate container for the sprouts and basil, and then the noodles and other ingredients were in their own container. Don't be afraid of tripe! It really has no discernible flavor of its own, but rather picks up the broth flavor. Thankfully, the broth wasn't salty as soups often are. Nothing leaked in transit ! Yelp came to the rescue and pointed me to Pho Dollar with its good reviews. This is a "me, too" review. I was in a veggie mood and ordered vegetable fried rice with steamed tofu. It was delicious. I think it had egg, so if you're vegan, be sure to ask for no egg if you order this dish. For dessert, I ordered pork dumplings, which were also nicely prepared. My server was great. Pho Dollar is a hidden gem on West Ferry Street. After over a year of hearing how wonderful this place is, I finally went for dinner with two of my friends. The food was just as good as they described! I was extremely impressed by the service. Our servers were so friendly and attentive. As soon as I opened the menu, I knew that I was in trouble. There were about 10 pages of entrees and I wanted to try them all. They offer: pho, vermicelli, fried rice, crispy rice noodles and stir fry noodles- with all types of toppings and sauces. They also offer many combination meals and appetizers. We ordered tea and appetizers. The tea was served piping hot, which I always appreciate. For our appetizers, we split an order of fresh spring rolls and deep fried spring rolls. Both were delicious! I especially loved the variety of dipping sauces they served with the rolls. The peanut sauce was divine. I could have eaten it with a spoon! I felt quite overwhelmed when it was time to choose our entrees. Because it was my first time at Pho Dollar, my friends insisted that I try the classic Pho with thin sliced beef and meatballs. Before they brought out my soup, they brought out a dish with herbs, spices, jalapenos and bean sprouts. I liked that they let me choose how much of each spice I wanted in the broth. I ended up using all of it, and it was perfect! The broth was delicious and refreshing. The basil and culantro (closely related to cilantro) were my favorite additions. The thinly sliced beef and noodles in the pho were absolutely phenomenal. I wasn't as impressed by the meatballs, I would probably leave them out next time My two friends ordered a vermicelli dish and the "bird's nest" with crispy noodles, chicken and vegetables. I tried both of their meals. They were both great, but the bird's nest was exceptionally tasty! The crispy noodles mixed with the sauce, chicken and broccoli was a unique and wonderful combination. I came back for a dine in meal and I have to reiterate what I said in my previous review: the noodle soup is delicious! Very flavorful broth, which this time did not suffer from a lack of basil or sweet/hot spices (the first time I got take out here, they forgot to add the sauces and there was only mint leaves and no basil). I haven't tried any of the other hundred items on the menu (which I've heard they are redoing), but this is my favorite place for pho now in all of Buffalo. I even think the broth is better than Pho 99 on Bailey. As the place is still very new, expect some hiccups with service, but don't hesitate to come here for pho. read more

I walked in and the first thing you notice is all the modern updates...great...however, no one is at the door to great you or give direction on where to sit...so me and my friend just starting walking to the upstairs portion of the restaurant and were halted by a voice that said, "sit anywhere down here,"...um, okay? We sat down then realized how cold it was, multiple dirty tables and asked to be seated upstairs..we sat, then someone (I guess a waiter?) asked us to move to another table, ok..we sat, and were given water, then a waiter came took our orders. Our appetizers came out first (fried egg rolls and fried dumplings) they tasted amazing, but they came out with no small plates, and no side sause for the appetizers as clearly described in the menu...I let it go and I ate dropping crumbs everywhere...next, the Pho came, I had the #22...taste was ok, but where are my veggies? I had to ask not one but the second waiter for the veggies he forgot to bring out with the soup...ok...taste of the pho was great, however the amount of fat on the beef lead me to pick every single piece out and trim the fat by hand before I could eat it..I also removed an abundant amount of noodles.. Overall solid food experience, customer service severely was lacking...I think I'll skip this place next time I crave Pho. read more

This review is for the vegetarian options/experience. There is a separate vegetarian menu, but you have to know to ask for it. Nothing on the regular menu is suitable for vegans, The vegetarian menu is a wrinkled piece of paper which is a photocopy of a menu that had handwritten comments on it, one which is "beef broth" - so I was a little nervous. Also, it wasn't that informative. There was no way to tell the difference between two dishes that were both called tofu stir fry with vegetables. I asked and was told one had vegetables. Ok... The best part of the experience was when, after sitting with the veg menu for at least fifteen minutes, they came over to tell me they were out of tofu. Turns out it is in every dish, including the ones that don't list it. I had ordered the fried rice because it was the only dish not listing it but it has tofu also. The fried rice was nothing special. I wish they had tofu bahn mi. I've never been asked so many times if I wanted refills on water. If we haven't started sting, or are still eating, of course we want water. Also, we had a group of five and the food came out at wildly different times. The bahn mi came out about ten minutes before the pho and my fried rice was somewhere in between. All that being said, everyone else loved their food. The one other strange part was when they warned only one pho orderer that her dish contained tendon and tripe even though the other two pho varieties had it also. We had one connoisseur of Vietnamese food and she loves it. She even pointed out all the unique menu items you don't usually see in restaurants around here. read more

Overall, I like their Pho. I get the no. 24. It could be a little more aromatic for my taste but it's my go-to place in the area so far. My obsession with Pho is real so I end up ordering from them about once a week. Generous drizzle of freshly squeezed lime, mix in some of that sriracha and hoisin; you're golden. It was a surprising place. We recently move from Texas and it is hard to find authentic Vietnamese food around Buffalo, NY. I had the bun bo hue dac biet (#35) and it was pretty yummy so much flavor and the beef and seafood was so tender (it was not too spicy which I was glad). My husband got one of the vermicelli dishes and he said it was great. My daughter enjoyed the spring rolls (the only thing I was missing was for the spring rolls to have slice cucumber and carrots, but aside from that I recommend anyone looking for Vietnamese food to come here. read more

The best pho I've had in my life! I thought Brooklyn had the best pho until I came here. (I have yet to go to Vietnam so I cannot speak for the most AUTHENTIC pho, but definitely the best pho I've had in the US, for sure!) Their special combination pho is HUGE. Do not come here unprepared because you need to skip a meal or two in order to finish the Pho Xe Lua Dac Biet ($12.45). I do recommend getting the smaller size ($10.45). Regardless, you cannot go wrong with the pho. The broth is sooo light and aromatic and the meat to noodles ratio is perfection. We came as a huge party and the service was great and friendly. They always checked to see if everything was perfect and if we needed anything. The servers were the sweetest! Overall 5 star experience. The only negative is that I live 6 hours away in NYC. Used to be very good but not much any more. The last time I had was spicy lemongrass chicken. I ask them to make it spicier but was refused. They said that it cannot do it because it may be too hot for other customer as they reused the cooking ware. What? they don't wash it and use it throughout the day? It's really closer to a 3 than a 4, but I am giving it 4* because of 2 reasons. 1) I found *real* egg noodles not 'american' ones - hoorah! The noodles in my soup were not thorougly cooked.. so I had to wait a couple of minutes before I could eat them. It was as if they put raw noodles in the bowl and then put the broth on top..they were quite too chewy for a while.. I didn't really like that.. I also ordered some soft stir fried noodles to go, and when I opened the box I was super happy to see that they were real, flat egg noodles and not the thick square kind I keep getting at asian places in the city. The beef in that dish was sliced so thin, and had no fat and was just the way I like it. Good ratio of veggies/noodles/beef but I found after a few bites it was WAY too salty ( I have a high salt tolerance as well). That also happened with the pho I was eating - MSG much?! There's not much to say about the inside of the restaurant. Although I am not sure why the cash/waitress area is all the way at the top of the stairs at the back. I decided to order delivery from Pho Dollar - I am trying to support the local businesses during this difficult time. I always enjoy vietnamese and ordered in the Grilled Beef Vermicelli Bowl : BÚN BÒ NỚNG. I ordered it through a third-party website and everything worked out well - they made my order correctly and the driver did the hand-off without direct contact. With regards to the food, I think the beef was the best part and wish there was more included. It was warm, tender and delicious. I did like the egg roll I added on to my order - I could have easily eaten a second one. I thought there were too many noodles and that they lacked flavor and spice. Had I known that the noodles would essentially lack any flavor I probably would have picked a different meal. Then again, there may be people who prefer their noodles that way, right? Will I give Pho Dollar another try? Of course, but I will probably pick a different meal. read more

Great place to grab some pho for lunch. Went there after coming back from Canada (Peace bridge). Inside looks decorative, you have to take the stairs for dining. Server was helpful and took our order right away. I ordered #19 Pho Dac Biet and an order of fried spring rolls. Foods were delicious and they came out quick. Really great rare beef pho! I ordered to go during this time, and they provided EVERYTHING I needed. Was really happy with how items were packed into a convenient baggie and plastic container so I could easily assemble my soup at home. A few friends have never had pho before and since I am an avid noodle soup lover, especially in the winter, we stopped here on our way out. This wasn't far from our AirBnB. The menu is large, for someone who knows what they want it's not too bad, but for someone who has never had Vietnamese, it's a lot to take in! Sadly, I can't eat any of those with meat in them but I heard it was good! My hubs ordered the pad thai dish and I had #87 vegetarian pho chay. Our friends ordered one of the Vermicelli bowls as a first timers. She enjoyed it but wished there was another sauce to add to the flavor. The pad thai was decent, which is to be expected since it's more Vietnamese but he's easy to please. I liked the pho, it lacked some deeper flavors in the broth but it hit the spot when I needed it too. Not a bad spot to try, there's a ton of seating when you first walk in and in the back upstairs. One star for the food. I had the Vietnamese pancake which had two tiny shrimp and an ounce of pork in it. Stingy portion and a poor value. Holy crap, I thought I reviewed this place already. But Yelp was saying, Hey review this place, and now here I am. I have visited this establishment many of times and even when they first opened. I normally always get the rice noodle bowl. But I tell them less noodle more lettuce. 2 of the 4 times I ordered it that way, they got it correct. This one time i ordered, looks like they gave me more noddle and less lettuce which was opposite of what i ordered. When ever I got with my Vietnamese foodie friend, we get the Summer rolls. The pricing on the Summer rolls are really on the higher side. Its always like highway robbery when ordering them. I'm used to them being half price back in Hawaii but I guess you have to price is accordingly especially if you know you have great food. I just wish they packed the summer rolls better and bigger. The last time i ordered, they looked like they were very skimpy and totally not worth what they were charging. I have not tasted their Pho, but I know I will be back to try it when it gets colder and will need warm Pho to warm me up some. What happened? I've been here several times in the past year, especially because I go to school in the Buffalo area and I end up in this area due to commitments. My friends and I have been here twice in the past week because it was closer than Pho 99 and by all means, the pho here isn't bad but the portions are measly. - The banh mi is about $5 for either pork or beef, and that's fine to me only because there aren't other Vietnamese restaurants near the Buffalo area that sell it. - Pho? Don't even.. get me started. The extra large is an extra large because of the broth, not the noodles. The amount of broth to ratio was ridiculous, my friends and I had to order extra noodles, only to pay more. I personally would have preferred it if extra noodles were already included in the extra large and that they charge the appropriate amount. I hate having to eat Pho and to find out that there aren't enough noodles, so I have to call the waiter/waitress and ask for more noodles, proceed to wait 10+ mins for a small portion of noodles. This to me is ridiculous. - The staff is good, of course. They're consisted of young adults, probably in their early or mid 20s. Will I be back? Only if I'm in the area. I would even say 4.5! Got dinner here Saturday night after running around doing errands knowing I had no desire to go home and make dinner! We order a number 30 (the seafood pho) and a number 46(the rice noodles with all the things lol). The only sad part is they forgot the egg on the number 46 :(. The fried egg topping is one of my favorite things in life on most all food so yes that was terribly sad. But that was the hubby's order and he barely noticed till the end. I had held off visiting Pho Dollar for a while because I couldn't figure out if they had vegetarian options--but a friend wanted to go for her birthday, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm SO glad I did! They have a nice vegetarian menu that includes vegetarian pho with plain or fried tofu (just be sure to specify *vegetable* broth instead of beef when ordering--even on the vegetarian menu, for some reason, beef broth is the de facto offering). The pho is delicious and so satisfying--the perfect healthy comfort food as we head into winter. Additionally, the space itself was quite a surprise. It doesn't look like much from the outside--but the split-level bar/dining room is very nice and spacious. Very clean and comfortable. The staff is also really friendly and inviting. I liked it so much that I brought my husband the next day for dinner. He tried the beef pho as well as a pork banh mi and pronounced them a hit (this is saying something; he's hard to please!). A few days later, I visited with out-of-town-friends who are definitely "foodie" types and they also raved about the meal (although one found the lemongrass tofu to be a bit too spicy).
