My husband heard about this place and wanted to give it try since we love Thai. We were not disappointed! We walked in last friday night at 7:45 and were able to sit right down in the upstairs seating area. The waitress came right over smiling and brought us menu's with waters. I ordered the #60 Com Chien Ga' which translates to the fried rice with chicken. My husband ordered the #6 Goi Cuon to start which was like a spring roll with a very tasty peanut butter dipping sauce and then for his main course he had the #20 Pho Tai - Very large bowl of rice noodles, broth, veggies and your choice of meat, he chose the beef. It looked like fresh roast beef from wegmans deli! The Goi Cuon came within a few minutes of ordering and was gone a few minutes later! It was excellent! About 10 minutes later our entrees came. Both were very large portions! The fried rice had great flavor, the only thing that would have made it better would have been to add pineapple to it. This review solely pertains to their banh mi which is dope. It's nicely priced and all of the elements are well-balanced. The bread was toasted on the outside and soft on inside. The meat was crispy but not burnt. Too often have I been oven chewy pork on my banh mis. I'm only giving out four stars instead of five because I wish there had been more meat. But otherwise, this place is awesome. And as a plus, the waitstaff was friendly and not fake. P.S. Was happy to try a new Vietnamese joint in Buffalo. It was a Monday night and Niagara Seafood was closed. I had a sick girlfriend in the car with a craving for Pho. What to do? There's 99 fast food, but no...too far out of the way heading home for work. Then I remembered the article in Buffalo Rising about the new Vietnamese joint on the west side. I get off the 198 on Grant on my way home...its in the opposite direction but close enough (and actually closer to my house in kenmore than Niagara Seafood so alright). Interior was about what I expected. Not dirty per se, but not really exceptionally nice. However everyone knows you don't go to a Vietnamese joint for the decor, and I was getting take out anyway so be it. I was immediately greeted and asked if I was here for takeout....I guess I must just look like the kind of dude that gets takeout. I said yes and was asked to have a seat at the bar where there are your typical classy laminated menus complete with a number system and english descriptions as you'd expect. I ordered the X Large beef pho and the pork banh mi as an impulse (how can you not? for $4.25? USD??). I waited for a few minutes and then a nice middle aged vietnamese man brought me a platter of tea and glass of water. Never got anything like that waiting for takeout anywhere. It was legit green tea with some kind of flower blossom steeped in it. For free...I just paid $4 for a pot of something similar at a higher end restaurant. So that was a big positive. Within about 12 minutes I had my food and was on my way. The Pho: Very good. A lot more beef than I'm accustomed to getting, too. The broth was also really tasty, but not quite as good as Niagara or 99. That said it was very very solid. The Banh Mi: Now THAT is what really shined. Amazing fresh french bread bun. Picklier pickled veggies than i'm used to and amazingly seasoned BBQ pork pieces. Heaven. Best I've had in Buffalo. And $4.25!!!! I'll be back. read more

Their food is great. There's no question in my mind. I am a big fan. I have only had great experiences dining in. Great service, good prices, etc. But every single time I get take out, they screw up the order. Not like forgetting chopsticks or sauces. More like, making the completely wrong dish. I have spoken to them about it several times. Are they referencing a different menu than the one online or the take out menu? Different numbers would explain the mix-ups. You know I love Pho - so chock full of nutritional vitamins. Love the broth here, for starters: light n' just right. Not salty, but still flavorful. The accompanying vegetables and herbs were good too. Fish sauce was great. A little sriracha and you gotchya' a perfect meal. So happy, took half of mine home, so generous is the serving size. Beef broth pho with beef and meatballs. Nice. And they offer a full bar. Next time, and this will be soon... After a long 6 hours drive to Niagra Falls we were looking for a Pho place and found Pho Dollar. The name itself may not jump out at you but we were pleasantly surprised. The place looks small from the outside but is decently roomy inside. Their menu boasted a variety of Vietnamese dishes. The foods were good and the service was just as complimentary. We came as a party of 19 and were serviced fairly quickly. Price wise it was reasonable. We ended our trip by dining there a second time before heading home. If you happen to be in the area or just driving through and looking for a Vietnamese Pho place that offers a variety of Viet dishes, we recommend you give Pho Dollar a try. read more

I didn't want to take a star away because the things I didn't like about Pho Dollar weren't that big of a deal. To start, my girlfriend and I heard about this place from our friends who said good things about it. So we took a drive to try it out. The area isn't too inviting, but it is easy to spot. The sign seems bigger than their entire store front lol. Nothing wrong with that but without knowing the word "Pho", one might think it is a Dollar Store. The layout is interesting, not uncommon but interesting. They have their bar area when you first walk in, and then a staircase to the right leads to the dining area. Very clean, with modern furniture and decorations. Simple, yet still gives that Vietnamese / Asian ambiance. When we walked in, if we hadn't noticed the employee call out from above, we would not have known to sit at the bar or to ascend the staircase. Maybe in the near future they should set up a hostess booth / stand at the entrance. It was around Noon on a Sunday so we expected it to be busy.. but it wasn't. Possibly still trying to build a customer base, heard they were a relatively new restaurant. The young waitress was friendly and began to take our order, without a note pad, and remembered all our items.. impressive. Ca Phe Su Da (Iced Coffee) - We drink a lot of coffee and when we order Vietnamese drip coffee, we're very critical about it. Good job Pho Dollar, yours currently tops other restaurants and cafes. However, the key is to not worry about the water they add at the bottom of the glass of ice. At first we drank the water because we did not want to water down the coffee, but when we poured out the coffee without the water to dilute it a little, it was super super strong in coffee flavor. If that's how you roll, then do without the water. But with it, the coffee was awesome. To each it's own, props to Pho Dollar for giving the customer the option. Goi Cuon (Summer Rolls) - Pretty standard summer roll, refreshing, ingredients tasted fresh, and good size. The peanut sauce differed from other places that seem to water it down. Little darker in color too. Pho Dac Biet (Combination) - My girlfriend ordered this and I tried it. Quality was great. The broth was flavorful, the noodles weren't stiff nor soggy, fair amount of meat (and I mean fair, not lacking, not generous, just fair), and the size of the bowl was very big. Wish there was a smaller size but you definitely get what you pay for, $8 for the large dish. Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Soup) - I actually wanted to order the Bo Kho (Beef Stew), but I accidentally pointed at Bun Bo Hue LOL. Totally my fault, but oh well. Their Bun Bo Hue was pretty good too. The broth was not overly spicy, and the beef chunks were sauteed prior. I could tell because in other Bun Bo Hue dishes I've had, the beef was lighter in color and didn't have sear marks. Good Job taking the extra effort in making this dish stand out from other restaurants. However, when I ordered it, I ordered egg noodle instead of rice noodle. I think it would have been better with rice noodle. The egg noodle gave it a feel that I was eating Japanese Ramen, rather than Vietnamese Bun Bo Hue. Overall, for my mistakes, I still had a very decent meal eating something I didn't originally want. Bahn Mi (BBQ Pork) - We were told from our friends, "Melts in your mouth", and since I am huge on sandwiches (especially Bahn Mi), this was a must. We ordered this to go for later in the day, but of course I wanted to try it while it was hot and fresh, so I took a bite.. and it melted in my mouth. The bun was toasted yet soft, also it did not crumble like other breads do when you bite into it. The vegetables were fresh, crisp, and the amount did not overtake the meat. As for the meat.. my goodness, soft and tender pork, BBQ sauce was slightly tangy and slightly sweet. No need for fish sauce, soy sauce, nor Sriracha. Slightly larger than your average 6 inch Bahn Mi, about 8-10 inches. $4.50 but the quality and size makes up for it's comparison to other $2 Bahn Mi's. By far, top Bahn Mi I've had in the Buffalo Area. Overall, a little pricier compared to other Buffalo Vietnamese cuisine restaurants, but like I said, you get what you pay for in quality and quantity. Offer slightly smaller sizes for slightly cheaper and I think you'll attract more college students who are attracted to Vietnamese Soup Dishes, which is a large number. Going to be coming back to try other dishes, and will definitely be telling our other friends to try this place. read more

Let me start off with saying I have never in my life had anything Vietnamese- I haven't realized what I have been missing out on! My roommate convinced me to get #48, the chicken vermicelli bowl. For less than $10 you can get two meals in one. I am no Vietnamese expert but the meal was amazing. I was more than satisfied with the portion of chicken in the dish- you definitely are not left wanting or needing more meat. I did think a bit more veggies could have been incorporated in the dish but it wasn't anything I felt was worth deducting any stars from this review. My first stop in Buffalo after checking into our hotel and we just really wanted some comfort food. We ordered two or somewhat three different dishes and while they're not 'omg disgusting,' they were not good. I had the supposed pho dac biet - special pho. It came out rolling hot but there were only beef in it. The special should've had all the bells and whistles but all I got was tough beef and a small portion of noodles. The broth was also sweet, which it should not be. My party also ordered the extra large which was a very sad size when compared to others I have had on the northern side of the border. I feel that the chef is really skimping out on the portions. The final order to the table was calamari in butter sauce something. The batter was sweet so we did not enjoy it. We also ordered another extra large train special for my dad and the takeout portion we received was pretty laughable as it was very small. Overall, expensive for what the portions are and overly sweet for such a delicate dish such as pho makes this place a no go for me. I simply would not return. read more

Decided to meet a friend on a Friday afternoon after hearing good things! We arrived around 6pm and it wasn't nearly as busy as I had imagined. We were quickly sat at a table upstairs also being occupied by a couple. At first we were uninterested with sharing a table but decided to give it a shot. After asking if they served any alcohol I was happy she notified us that they do NOT serve, however they DO allow you to bring in your own wine, beer and alcohol which was interesting. Only minor downside was after my Friend asked for her recommendation (which she happily suggested the beef Pho, also keep in mind neither of us have ever had pho previously) he politely declined only due to his distaste for beef. No worries, he order his interest, however she seemed insulted that he not take her recommendation, bringing it up a couple times. No big deal, we simply Could not figure whether she was just a bad comedian or was truly upset. The Food!! We got the spring rolls which were served with this amazing peanut sauce. They were great! Both of our broths came out with a plate carrying an assortment of sprouts, basil, cilantro etc. We both thoroughly enjoyed our pho! I loved it! Not the biggest fan of cilantro which had a very forward presence in the dish, but it did not bother me. Overall, small mom and pop place that was surprisingly clean, neat and simple. We ordered through SkipTheDishes and the restaurant did a good job with such a big order. We had 30+ people ordering and they didn't miss a single order (minus fish sauce missing from 2 items). Whenever we placed a big order from other restaurants, they almost always mess up on at least one order. I would definitely order from Pho Dollar again. They were accommodating and labeled all the food clearly so we can sort them out. The food was good. My coworker and I shared the beef fried rice and chicken vermicelli. The grilled chicken was so good. The beef fried rice is as good but nothing special, so I probably won't order that again. Everyone else seems to enjoy their food. Someone got the seafood pancakes, and she said it would taste better if you eat that at the restaurant. Overall, very happy with Pho Dollar. Pho is a hidden gem of Buffalo. I lived there for 3 years and discovered it only in the last 6 months before I moved. But in those 6 months I ate there several times. The menu is enormous and you need reading glasses to see it all, but pretty much any dish you order is awesome. I especially loved the rice paper rolls that you made yourself. The absolute best Vietnamese food in Buffalo. Period end of story. The Pho is excellent. My favorites are the Bun Bo Hue and Pho Dac Biet. The Bahn Mi sandwiches are to die for... none better anywhere. There are so many choices on the menu and each one is delicious. We have never ordered anything which wasn't first class in taste. I love their squid dish. The vermicelli dishes are really good. The Vietnamese egg rolls are a staple every time we go. And I love that they have awesome hot chili oil with seeds on every table. This stuff is smokin hot when you want to kick up beyond Sri Racha. I have eaten in great Vietnamese restaurants all over the country. Pho Dollar stands toe to toe with the best of them. It looks like a dive from the outside but don't be fooled. The food is what you are there for and you will not be disappointed. Heck I live a couple of blocks from Pho 99. I would go all the way across town to eat at Pho Dollar even though Pho 99 has very good food. I am a couple of miles from Pho Saigon, Saigon Bangkok, Red Pepper and Pho Café.
