I eat here pretty regularly... Usually on a Tuesday between work and class. The service has always been fabulous but the waitress that offered that amazing service is gone or no longer works on Tuesday. The last three times I have visited the service has been horrendous. No one is paying attention to the guests. We've walked up to the counter twice to get refills, even after she promised to check back after the first time. Sitting listening to her have a loud conversation on her cell phone as I write this. My husband had to walk up to her to even pay our bill. Wish I didn't like the food so much. This is good. I know there are many other competitors for Vietnamese food, but I think this new place is a solid contender. I am not really fussy or particular about Pho dishes, but somehow the broth here is pretty flavorful and have the "i want more" effect after you sip it once. I ordered the flank and rare steak pho I think, can't remember much about the meat, I think they were okay, but the broth surely leave something to remember. Tried the grilled pork vermicelli too, and although I wish the pork was cut thinner, it has the right flavor. For this dish, it really depends on how you mix the sauce though, it might take some trials to get the right combination of hoisin sauce, siracha etc. The place itself reminds me of Buckeye Pho at Bethel road, kinda like a sport bar with big flat TV. Nice interior, may not look authentic at first just because it is too nice for a Vietnamese restaurant, but hey, I'm not complaining. One wishful thinking though, I hope that there is one Pho restaurant in Columbus that is open late enough so all of us could have a nice and delicious Pho. We all need late night supper, especially during winter, and I'm sick of Canes and Ihop! So, please, bring us one. read more

My wife and I recently returned from Vietnam, having acquired a taste for pho, among other Vietnamese delights. Since she just moved into the Dublin area for work, we found ourselves exploring the area for her new food haunts, and we certainly found a goodie. The prices are exceptionally reasonable, the service is friendly and swift, and the food we sampled thus far is excellent. The Vietnamese eggrolls were crispy and tasty, reminiscent of the fried spring rolls found in many restaurants in Vietnam. And boy, did they come out to our table fast. We had hardly ordered them when they arrived, piping hot and delicious. My wife got the Chicken Pad Thai (not Vietnamese, I know. She wants what she wants, who am I to say no?) and she enjoyed it, although the portion was much larger than she could eat in one sitting. A bad thing? I think not. I got the Beef Flank and Brisket Pho (big bowl) and it was everything I wanted. My wife is particularly picky about the flavor of her pho, but this tasted just like our favorite Ho Chi Minh City joint (Pho 2000 on Phan Chu Trinh), which set the bar for us, pho-wise. It was pleasantly spiced and so tasty, it was all I could do to keep from shoving it all greedily into my gaping maw. My only (small) complaint is that the hot peppers are jalapeños, not the peppers we got in Vietnam. Not a big deal, they got the job done just the same and did not significantly effect the flavor. The Vietnamese iced coffee is about as authentic as it comes in the US, and is worth your time. Pro-tip: stir the condensed milk into the hot coffee before you add it to the ice. It's better that way. Are you looking for authentic Vietnamese food? You should come here. The food is too good for you to pass it up. I'll be going back when I'm in town visiting my wife, maybe you'll see me there. Note to the owners: I know it must not be easy to find, but how about stocking some 333 (Ba Ba Ba) or some Tiger beer? Finally went here when I needed to get something to eat that was a soft chew after a visit to the dentist. Prices are very right and even better if you skip an appetizer and just go for water but even still...for the two of us with sodas and an appetizer plate we came out around 28$ with tip and we were full. We had an appetizer sampler plate that had eggrolls, spring rolls, and meatballs on it. I doubt we'll have that again. Eggrolls were ok, spring rolls had more greenery in them than shrimp, and although tasty - the meatballs just had a rubbery feel to them in the mouth. I had the garlic shrimp egg noodles and was very happy with it - very tasty. DH had beef and some other flatter wider noodle which he enjoyed but I didn't. We saw big bowls of pho soup going by that looked good and are on our radar to try when we go back - which we will! read more

The restaurant was clean. The woman that took my order was very nice and helpful. My order was done in the amount of time that was estimated and it was correct. On my second visit, 2 weeks late, she not only recognized me, she remembered what our order was !!!! I thought that was awesome. We had Pho both times. The meat in mine was tender. The bowl of bean sprouts, lime, basil, and jalapenos was fresh. My only criticism, which is common with pho', is there was not enough meat. Atmosphere: 4.5 / 5.0 The restaurant was clean, modern, and comfortable. The bottled condiments were fresh as well based on their dates. The noise and temperature levels were perfect. Service: 2.0 / 5.0 We arrived about 12 noon on a Saturday and were greeted right away and sat down. The server was friendly enough. She got our drinks right away and was patient as we checked out the menu. The food was served quickly by one of the guys we saw out back smoking when we pulled in the lot about 15 minutes prior. After that we were on our own. My mouth was roasted by the spicy Pho' and I had to ask two separate times for drink refills. Other than when we were delivered the bill, we weren't visited by the staff without me getting their attention first after our seating. NOT VEG FRIENDLY! Stopped in to check out Pho Chef for the first time and was sad to see that it is not veg friendly. The owners were nice and ended up making us something vegan, but they also made it clear that there is little to be done for us overall. Everything contains animal products and only a couple of dishes could even be made animal-free. Overall, it would not be worth a visit for a vegetarian. I would recommend Pho on Lane Ave. if you are craving some delicious veg pho and a decent selection of vegetarian dishes. read more

I ate at Pho Chef for the second time today for lunch. As with my previous visit the location was clean, service was reasonably quick and I don't have any major complaints. Basically, the food is ok, but not above my standard for repeat business. Last time I got the pho and felt it was too strong on five spice. This time I got a bahn mi and egg rolls. I didn't like the egg rolls at all. They were just filled with an odd tasting meat ball mix. The bahn mi was serviceable with properly cooked pork and a nice fluffy, crunchy roll but the flavor was not on point. I could taste a lot of hoisin sauce and not much else. The sandwich was completely devoid of spice that usually comes from Jalapeño. I'm not going to go back and that makes me kind of sad. I was hoping for good Vietnamese near work. read more

Uuugggghhhh!! Gross! I ordered the shrimp and garlic fried noodle entree to bring home. Well, I think they screwed the order up and gave me the shrimp pad tai. Not only was there NO garlic flavor anywhere in the dish, I got that horrible artificial crab meat you can get in the grocery. In addition to the fake crab meat there was some anonymous rubbery white stuff...I'm thinking wannabe squid. I was disappointed to see 3 lousy, skinny undeveined shrimp, but after tasting the over cooked shrimp I was glad I only got 3. The sauce was super thin and watery and I'm feeling sick to my stomach just typing these words. I will NEVER go back to eat at this place! I should have gone to Windchimes on Frantz rd. I'm a pho snobby. If you're a regular on Emily B. reviews you know I was nervous in coming to Ohio from Philadelphia--mainly because I needed to be sure I'd get my pho fix. I was over in the Sawmill part of town recently with a friend and we were hungry as fudge after spending a few hours negotiating a car deal for him. Close by was the Pho Chef. It was ok. Good broth, good toppings but the tai (rare beef) was thick and chewy. I've been spoiled by my fave on Bethel--but I'm glad I branched out and gave them a shot. They have way more on the menu than just pho--it's the usual Ohio Asian fusian ways of the world, but for a group of people who aren't necessarily gung-ho for pho, it's a good spot. Not my favorite go-to for a pho hankering, but definitely legit if you're up on Sawmill and need a meal. read more

I have been visiting Pho Chef for some time. I thought it was decent Pho with decent staff. The last order I placed was as soon as they opened (at 11 a.m.). The shrimp spring rolls were breaking open and the shrimp inside were busted out of the roll, shriveled, and dried out, it was disgusting. I didn't realize this until I got home but I have decided I won't go back if the staff is willing to sell and serve something that (in my opinion) shouldn't have been sold. read more

Oh, this was good. I had the spicy round steak with rice noodles soup bowl. They weren't kidding on the spicy bit either. I didn't have to add any Siracha to the broth, it was plenty spicy. So much so that my lips started burning about halfway through the bowl. I did add some hoisin to it to round out the heat. The beef was nicely cooked, not over done and the noodles were excellent. The toppings of bean sprouts, lime, jalapenos, and Thai basil were the perfect additions. The broth was very nice; spicy, rich and well-balanced. Service was quick and unobtrusive. If Pho Chef was in a town like, say, Perry or Circleville, they'd probably be getting a nicer review, but they're in a town with a very strong Vietnamese community and an established food scene. Simply, they don't have the chops to keep up. We tried the bbq meatballs appetizer and were put off by how greasy the meat was - even the vinegar dipping sauce didn't totally cut through it - and our main courses didn't do much to change our minds. The "crab" Pho is actually Krab, and even then you get perhaps 3 or four pieces of meat in the entire bowl. I decided to try their Vietnamese style beef stew, and not only was it basically just the beef soup base with meat poured over noodles, but I found several large chunks of fat and gristle that hadn't been properly rendered down left in the bowl. (For a good example of what this SHOULD taste like, go to Mi Li.) If you want Pho and you're in the Dublin area, I'd suggest you drive down to Buckeye Pho instead. read more

Hmm, I thought it was OK. The pho broth was good and not that msg'y, but the noodles were overdone and too soft. The pho bo hue (spicy beef pho) was something I've never seen before, and I'm Vietnamese! It tasked like a beef pho/bun bo hue hybrid. Not as fragrant as their regular pho broth, but I definitely love the chili oil flavor in it. OK, now for the BAD. The vermicelli plates were really bland and didn't really taste Vietnamese. The meats were dry and stale-tasting (like they were reheated a couple times), didn't have the right seasoning, and the nuoc mam sauce was syrupy sweet. Kinda tasted like it was a fusion with Laos or cambodian cuisine because of the different seasoning. The lemonade tasted like it was minute maid powder :( Pho noodle soups...about 6/10 Vermicelli plate...sadly have to give it a 2/10 Service was OK. They were nice, but a couple times they gave people the wrong order. Not sure if i'd come back, unless I wanted some hybrid spicy pho again. read more

The Pho is mediocre and extremely fatty. Pho should have some fat content but not so much that it coats your mouth like Vaseline. Nice set up on the inside, very basic. My main complaint would be the music. Sunny 95 was playing throughout the restaurant including the commercials and the signal had static interference. This restaurant even though conveniently located does not offer good value for money. I ordered the beef noodle soup with steak and the amount of steak in it was very less. Additionally the menu prices are not final, the waiter asks if you want a la rge bowl, without an explicit price on the menu one would assume the price listed is for large bowl!!! Additionally lighting is dim and does not aid in reading the menu for older people such as myself. Perhaps others have had better experience, would avoid this establishment in the future. Maybe the first place recently that really fits with a 3..for now. I have been here now a half dozen times, including with family. I have tried almost all of the Pho options, even is just by tasting some of the family's choices. Have tried several of the chicken soup options and the beef steww with noodles. Tried both the bhan mi offerings with pork. Also tried some appetizers including the eggrolls and springrolls, and one vermicelli plate. Here are the trends in my mind. First few visits the broth's used were good but the beef broth was kind of bland. However, the broth ing the pho has been better each visit and has been consistently good and improved recently. Though I have not tried any seafood dishes yet, in all the pho, chicken soups, and bhan mi that I have tried, they need to put more meat in/on everything. I know the pictures on the menu are done professionally and are probably stock pics, but you get a lot more meat in the pics thanh you do on the plate. More importantly, the servings are smaller than in other pho restaurants I have been to. I am not talking a huge increase in this ingredient, but what you get now is more of a tease than a taste. In the bhan mi I would say that almost every other bite has no meat at all. This is particularly frustrating given the great flavor of the grilled pork bhan mi and the fact that it is my and my wife's fav to order here. The underwhelming presence of cow and chicken is consistent across all dishes tried. All other things remaining the same, if they addressed this I would move the rating to a 4 without pause. So I plan on returning in the future as it is good and close. Hopefully it will be more of a destination than a drive by with some tweaks. Great food for cold winter days. read more

My family and I was just there yesterday for the first time. After running the Dublin Irish festival 5k we had decided to try the place out. We walked in 20min til closing time. Yes they still took us in but they were very rude, insuring us to hurry up and order. My family and I felt unwelcome and very rushed. I understand that we walked in close to closing time but I also work in the customer service world as stylist and if someone walked in my shop close to closing time I still take them n I may stay over from 15 mins to an hr after closing and I would never let the customer feel unwanted. Although the quality of the food was descent it not worth coming for, luckily we have other Vietnamese restaurant here in Columbus with way better customer service. This is a fast, solid place to grab an appetizer or pho when you're on the go. The space is strip-mall chic, with GIANT TVs, bright walls, and high ceilings. I've always had quick, efficient service here, both sit-down and carryout, and they are friendly to everyone. Outside of the appetizers and pho, however, I've not been all that impressed. This past visit, I ordered pad Thai with shrimp and flat noodles, and was disappointed to find the noodles, sprouts and onions gummed up (not together, kind of in their own muddled piles) and the tails of the shrimp still attached.
