Ambience: they recently renovated the place, now there is much more natural light, it is much more open and it is place where you can sit for a great meal with your friends for hours. I really had high hopes for this joint. One star is for the excellent Staff Team. Appetizers: Spring rolls and wontons. - The wontons were as any wontons in any basic restaurant in Rochester. Pretty fair flavors but nothing outstanding. Sauce taste like they added a hint of cinnamon which is ok. -The Spring rolls were a HUGGGGE disappointment. That thing was 90% vegetable. I was completely thrown off by the carrots. I probably had 10 strands of noodles in each of my spring rolls. I would not recommend it at all. Main Dishes: Combo Pho and Pad Thai -Another disappointment ! I completely understand everyone makes their pho different but this pho tasted like it came straight out the can. I enjoy the fatty flavors most pho put out and it seems like there was none here. It was pretty bland in my opinion. Nothing exciting to run back for. The price was extremely high as well for what you got. They provided a big bowl of soup with a small portion of noodles and meat. The meat quantity in the pho was just as sad. You didn't get much of anything and they were small pieces. It looks like they skimmed off the fat from the meat as well which explains why there wasn't much flavors. This should have costed at lease $6.90 instead of the $9 it is. -The Pad Thai would be amazing if it wasn't drenched in onions. I wasn't sure what I was eating at that point. I highly recommend asking them for less onions if you decide to try their dish otherwise you might as well just bite into a onion. The sauce was good but once again could be better. Overall: Nothing felt authentic about this place and I heard so much good things. This place could be so much better if they worked on their flavoring and portions to price. This felt like a extremely Americanized restaurant. Which is sad for business. Loved the staff team ! Extremely great service but their food is a pass for me! read more

The Pho here is pretty average. The soup doesn't really taste like it was a bone marrow soup. It was more of a packaged herbal mix. It's a but sweeter than I would have liked. I also ordered the pork stick appetizer, and it's pretty good! You can tell by the charing on the stick that it was actually barbecued rather than fried. The food here is also amazingly cheap! However, I saw that people kept saying that there were giant portion sizes, but I disagree. The bowl is made to be a lot shorter and wider to have the appearance of there being more food. And since I ordered the combination Pho, I wad expecting more meat, but they literally only give you 2 pieces of each, and it's mostly the soup. On the bright side, the noodles were about the average amount, but they were more tender than the average (which I liked). I can't say much about service. I was sitting alone, so it did take double the time for them to get to my order, but the food came out fast. Overall not the best, but it's a solid Pho place. I'd give it a 3.3. read more

This place shows it closes at 7. I walked in to place a to go order at 6:53 PM. I realize that's close to close but the restaurant lists till 7. When I walked in, the woman told me they were closed. I told her I thought it was open until 7. She rudely responded, "Well the kitchen is closed". I was a bit upset as I drove out of my way to go here. read more

Sometimes I wish Yelp let me give half stars because this place is 3 1/2 stars. The Vietnamese egg rolls are not really Vietnamese egg rolls they are Chinese egg rolls. There is a difference. They are not horrible just not what I expected when I ordered egg rolls from a Vietnamese restaurant. The Pho soup had a pretty clear broth it was lacking a little flavor but again it wasn't horrible it just wasn't my mother n laws pho. My husband soup had quail eggs which he said was pretty good. On the way out hubby ordered a coffee to go he said it was perfect. The service was quick and attentive. read more

Me and my family have been coming to Pho Chau for years it was one of our fav spots but now they have new owners and who not only raised all the prices & now include a tip themselves while still asking if you wanna tip .. the service was not good . I used to never have issues here but I tried ordering the pho won ton soup with beef and the number 20 on the menu looked just like my usual and it was not it was so fishy/ the chicken was seriously over cooked and under seasoned, it had squid and quail eggs it was nothing like what the pic looked like and I told them after taking a bite or two I really don't like it can I please get something different and they told me no because that's what I ordered .. and then walked away and had a different worker come give us to go containers and we tried to ask that lady something and she just walked away from us .. The food is still consistently good, and the portions are often generous, but they have hiked the prices significantly -- about 30-40% menu wide -- over the past year. This attributable to new ownership, updating the interior and the menu, and a little more advertising. But, for the current price, it leaves one missing the good old days. read more

Not bad but not great. I rounded up from 3.5 stars. I got the pad Thai and while the flavor was really excellent, there was just the right amount of crunch, and the meat was tender, the noodles were a little odd--too big and flat, and there were no peanuts at all on it. We ordered take out at Pho Chau and were very disappointed. Chicken pad thai, Tofu pad thai, and combination appetizer. Both pad thai dishes were bland in flavor, full of way to many onions, and really greasy. The appetizer included cold crab Rangoon and meatballs, as well as a decent egg and spring roll. Passing through Med City today with the SO, we got hungry for Vietnamese for lunch. Last time we were in Rochester (a couple weeks ago) this place was closed for summer vacation, so we ended up eating somewhere else. Happy to see they were open when we stopped today. We ordered tofu spring rolls, which were very good, but I wasn't quite sure what was in the accompanying peanut sauce - it tasted like there was something picked in there, maybe daikon? Carrots? Not sure, but I like my peanut sauce without too much extra stuff. The SO and I had stir fry dishes; his was tofu, mine shrimp. The portions were quite large and I couldn't finish all of mine. The reason I'm not giving this place four stars is because there was way too much "filler" vegetable in my dish - i.e. mostly broccoli. I like broccoli but I like other veggies too, and I automatically associate too much broccoli with cheaping out on a stir fry. I kind of wished I would've stuck with my original order place, a rice noodle stir fry. The service here was absolutely great. We got here as soon as they opened and were served promptly - the restaurant started filling up very quickly and there were lots of to-go orders going out too. I wish we could do half-star reviews on Yelp. I would've given this 3.5 stars easily, and I'll probably stop back here next time I'm down this way to check out some of the other dishes on the menu. read more

I use to go to Pho Chau a couple of times a week before I moved. When I came back to Rochester 2 years later for a visit Pho Chau was my first stop. OMG Ms. Chau remembered my name! I should be honest and start by writing that I'm not the biggest pho fan in the world. Soups in general aren't my thing, but it's nice to have some on a cold winter day, and the alternative options on the menu were excellent. My wife and I tried the beef pho, egg rolls, spring rolls, and shrimp Pad Thai. The pho was pretty standard. Good flavor, fast service, but not enough beef (maybe five or six pieces of meat). Plenty of noodles, broth, sprouts, etc. The egg rolls (essentially fried spring rolls) were very good, great dipping sauce. Spring rolls also delicious, with a good sauce. The Pad Thai was definitely my favorite part of the meal; smoky flavor, wide egg noodles (unusual), plenty of shrimp and sauce. Would definitely get that dish again, but would experiment with other dishes on the menu, rather than pho. Good location, easy to get in and out, limited parking, but not too limited, friendly staff, and definitely a popular lunch spot. We arrived right as the place opened, but by the time we left, there were barely any seats left. Would return, no questions asked. read more

The food is this little Asian diner, was absolutely inedible. The eggrolls were scrawny, the pad Thai noodles were roaring hot, Tom Yum soup was volcanic!!! Way over spiced! I ordered a root beer float and they filled it halfway with ice cubes a dribble of root beer and yes, a small dollop of ice cream,no froth, just horrible. Who would ever put ice in their root beer float?! They seem like nice people but the food is horrendous. We struggled to eat even half of it. My mouth was agonized from the unbelievably over seasoned food. when I complained the waitress she asked if I had added any of this seasoning , I hadn't, of course, because from the first spoon full on, it was pure agony. Taco Bell has better food then this place. And I hate Taco Bell! Can you believe the waitress came and asked me if we wanted a box to take the uneaten food home? I wouldn't even feed it to my dog and even if I tried, I'm sure the dog would definitely turn its nose up to it and even if it did try to eat it, it would probably kill the Poor thing.
