Pho combo XL is enough for 2 adults
Elizabeth N.

Meeting up with local friend otw to Tahoe and they suggested this place which is a little out of the way from our route but it definitely worth the detour! Price is cheap, portion is huge & food is good! The XL combo pho is only $16.75 and definitely enough for 2 people. Bun bo hue L is $16.25 and the most surprising price is the fresh sugar cane which is only $4.95! It has slight hint of kumquat which is common add-on but I'll see if they can skip it next time because I like pure sugar cane juice by itself. We also shared egg roll, spring roll and peking spare ribs which are all pretty good.

Food: I loved my order. Pork spring rolls with a peanut doing sauce. Pork is flavorful and cooked well. Plenty of green lettuce. A perfect light lunch. Green thai tea with no boba. Great flavor. They make it in house. First time having it and although not as popular as the orange one, I like it equally. Restraunt is large. Clean. Service was immediate and friendly.

A24. Vietnamese Sandwich (Charbroiled Pork or Chicken)

Some meals you forget by the time you hit the parking lot. Others, like the ones at Pho ABC, have you mentally drafting your next visit before you're even halfway through the first bite. I ordered the Bánh Mì and an avocado shake with boba, and both were knockout good. The Bánh Mì was a masterclass in contrasts: that baguette had the perfect crackle, giving way to tender meats, crisp pickled veggies, and a bright hit of cilantro that tied everything together. It somehow managed to be hearty without being heavy--basically, edible proof that culinary miracles do exist on Greenback Lane. Pro Tip: Hit your Bánh Mì with a shot of their sriracha sauce. I'm not saying it's life-changing, but if you hear a small choir of angels singing in your head after the first bite, don't be alarmed. Completely normal. The avocado shake deserves its own paragraph. Because, I mean, who knew that something so green could taste so decadent? It was creamy, lightly sweet, and somehow rich without being heavy. It was like sipping on some secret tropical dessert that hasn't been ruined by mass production yet. The boba pearls were fresh and pleasantly chewy (none of that sad, gummy nonsense you find at lesser establishments). The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, which I appreciate. The staff is friendly, the service quick, and the food speaks loudly enough that you don't need much else. Solid choice if you decide to come here.

Does the bahn mi have pate?

Yes

Because of recent Covid-19 changes? It looks like they do not have sit down (inside the restaurant) but rhey were serving on their patio outside the reataurant.

Governor just rolled county back to Phase 1 effective 7/13/20 so I'd call to understand take out/delivery options.

Do they have plant based milks for the boba teas?

No, they don't have plant based mills for the boba teas.

I'm new to NorCal and have never had nor have I even heard of this place before. I'm so glad we came here! Great and quick service. Tasty, hearty food that is VERY filling- the "regular" size was quite a large portion! I can't stop thinking about that Mac and cheese! All in all a fast and good experience. I ended up ordering 2 of the same bowls because it was a limited time only kind of bowl which was a Chili Garlic Ramen noodle bowl. One bowl I ordered Grilled Chicken for the protein and the other bowl I ordered Seasoned Tofu. Side note, the 2 for $12 deal didn't include the proteins since that costs extra so the deal was only if I didn't add any protein to my bowls. Since I ordered from the app, I was able to go in and grab my order then drive back home. My food was still hot by the time I got home even after driving in the cold and pouring rain. When I got home and started eating my bowl which had the seasoned tofu protein, I noticed that they didn't put much of it compared to my husband's bowl that had the grilled chicken protein. On top of that, the noodles were extra oily and greasy and too salty for my liking. I had to drink something sweet after to get rid of all the saltiness. I understand that noodle bowls are typically oily and salty but I just felt like it was too much for my tasting with this bowl. I mostly wished I had more of the seasoned tofu protein though. I guess if I were to order here again next time, I would probably get a bowl with the grilled chicken protein rather than the seasoned tofu protein since it seemed like they add more protein if you opt for the grilled chicken.

The service was impeccable from the moment that we walked in. That includes being greeted right away. The waitstaff was incredibly attentive and on top of the details. We ordered some pretty standard items off the menu to please everyone-vegetable chow mein, lemon chicken and pot stickers. Even though these might sound like boring dishes, they actually came out with such flair! The presentation on the dishes were gorgeous. They tasted amazing as well. I love the lighting of the restaurant. It gave it such a chill vibe. The woman at the front who took my order was very nice. I've dined in before and the tables are fully set up with all the necessary condiments, but today I just needed to get home and hope the food could do its thing. I ordered the pho gai, which is lighter and cleaner than the typical Vietnamese beef pho. The broth has a slightly fermented, deeply umami flavor, probably from fish sauce, along with lemongrass, chicken broth, chicken breast, and ginger. Perfect when you're stuck with a cold. It was packaged really well with chili oil, jalapeños, celery, lime, and the noodles on the side. There isn't a ton of chicken if you're looking for high protein, but I didn't care. It was so good and soothing. Nothing like sweating over a bowl of herbal soup while sick. I also ordered the Lao sausage, which has a great blend of aromatics, especially lemongrass. It comes with a sauce I'm not totally familiar with, but it's bright and limey, likely fish-sauce based, with something like charred pepper or tomato that almost reminds me of a Mexican salsa. So good. This place is awesome. I've only ever gotten soups here, but I definitely need to branch out and try more of the menu. Prices are very fair too. The soup alone was just under 1.5 liters so great bang for your buck.

Since it was our first time, we ordered a bunch of items to try. The pan-fried pork buns: were a highlight! Crispy on the bottom, soft on top, and filled with a clean, juicy soup that didn't have that heavy ginger taste. The soup dumplings xlbs had perfect, delicate skins and were incredibly juicy; the classic pork and the crab & pork were my favorites. The pork xlb had tender meat and was juicy, flavor was clean, the crab one is definitely for the seafood lovers, it has a nice SF umaminess too like a crab roe fishball lol. Other standouts included the spicy wontons in a great chili oil sauce and the truffle Angus beef fried rice, which featured surprisingly tender beef and a subtle, well-balanced truffle flavor. For dessert, the chocolate xlb, was excellent and tasted just like a strawberry Nutella crepe, though the matcha version was a bit too concentrated and bitter for my liking. Overall, the food came out quickly, the staff was friendly, and the service was great. I'll definitely be coming back soon!

There's a nice parking lot and, the collection of restaurants/stores in this little plaza give a nice vibe. There isn't a ton of seating inside; you kinda get an idea from some of the various Yelp pics.... and, there are a couple tables outside as well. The Food: - Pork Xiao Long Bao: this was fine...... I guess it's about as good as my memory of Journey to the Dumpling. Honestly, I'd say it's in the ballpark of goodness as the frozen Mila XLBs you can buy at Costco. again, Din Tai Fung has kinda ruined XLBs everywhere else I've gone since no one else comes close. - Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao: this had an odd tanginess to it.. like there was a bit of kimchi in it or something... I didn't care for it (and, I do happen to love kimchi).. and, it wasn't very spicy either. pass on this one. - Spicy Wonton: this was probably the best thing I had here. it was fine. not particularly spicy. and a bit salty. but, it was fine. - Pan-Fried Juicy Pork Buns: I think the filling in this is the same as the XLBs... you just get it in a pan-fried bun instead. I think I actually preferred the regular XLBs bc the larger size of this thing made it kinda hard to eat. - Garlic Noodle: I don't know what I was expecting here... and, I know I shouldn't expect Crustacean (just like I shouldn't expect Din Tai Fung) bc this certainly wasn't anything like Crustacean. These were okay.... the flavor of oyster sauce dominated my palate in an unpleasant way. - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings: these were okay. they ask if you want them spicy or mild. I got mine mild, but I probably should've gotten it spicy. The outside was nice and crispy, but the wing itself was kinda bland despite being covered with chopped garlic. Other things: - The food comes out fairly quickly & scalding hot..... so, don't burn your mouth! - I'd never really thought about it before, but every place that serves XLBs should also have spoons with flat bottoms; this place does not have flat-bottomed spoons. I like to rest my XLBs in my soup spoon while it cools, and since these spoons had rounded bottoms, my dumpling was always kinda lying sideways. - There's only one single-room unisex bathroom in the back, which is probably fine for the size of the restaurant; though, I did get stuck waiting behind a couple people when I needed to use it. so, I guess if you're not an XLB snob like myself & find Journey to the Dumpling and frozen Mila XLBs to be fantastic, then you may like this place quite a bit.... but I was rather disappointed....
