The service is usually tereible. Couterintuitive to what you would think, the full time regular severs are the worst. Sometimes you may get one good experience if you go when it's slow. Because if this, I had taken this restaurant out of my pho rotation. Came with a friend during lunch because she drove and it was as bad as I remember. The food is decent to pretty good. Prices are good. Try Pho 515 inside C Fresh or Fawn's or Golden Triangle if it's a family outing and service is important. Not only will they screw up your order, they won't come back to the table or refill drinks. read more

This is one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant you'll find anywhere in the country! The broth in Pho is very fresh and flavorful, the Bahnmi is great, fried rice is just the right seasoning, fried chicken wings are so crispy and awesome! Plus when you order Vietnamese ice coffee, they bring the equipment to you so you can see how it makes in front of you! If it's your first time having Vietnamese ice coffee and not sure what to do, just ask! The servers are very friendly :) Definitely would come here as often as i can every time I am in Des Moines! read more

Okay!!!!! I have this amazing local Vietnamese restaurant from my hometown and I was so sad to say goodbye because I never thought I would find something like it. The first night I moved to Des Moines (which was this week) I googled Vietnamese restaurants and just happened to click this one. I'm so happy I did!! Tastes just like the one from home (if not better even though it pains me to say that) I have now gone here 3 times THIS WEEK. I'm obsessed. Highly recommend the pho, wonton soup, spring rolls, and the rice noodle bowl. I don't think you can order anything bad from here though. read more

Food is good but the employees they have conversations too loud. Sometimes I want to enjoy food by my self .

This is a "no frills" joint and I love it. I have been going here for years and never had a bad experience. The staff is polite and laid back. Fantastic noodle dishes and huge portions for a steal. Their bubble tea is great too. read more

The store visually 1/10. The service is either really bad or really good depending on how busy it is, never in-between. But the pho, can't do wrong 10/10 read more

Pho 888 was excellent. I can't wait to get back to DSM to go back for more! Excellent food at extremely reasonable rates. read more

Pho 888 - This was the "Regular" size :) - Vietnamese Near Me - Des Moines, Iowa

My favorite Pho so far in Iowa! The chicken Pho was delicious! Especially with the spicy sauce at the table! Definitely will be back again!!

I watched google review and I thought this restaurant is good. Then I took a girl on a date today's noon. The food is very good here, especially the soup. It's also cheaper than pho in Iowa City. But the problem is that the serving is so bad. The server who took us to our seats look very mean and disrespectful, which ruins my mode of date. The water she serves didn't even have a straw. We didn't even get a fork when we eat noodles. Not all white people know how to use Chopsticks okay??? Pho tastes good, just hope that they can change their way of serving people read more

This place was filthy. Between the dirty floors, dust on chopstick holders, and water that tasted like grass, we couldn't stomach eating by the time our food arrived. The mysterious puddle by the cash register confirmed our decision to leave. No way this place is up to code. read more

Dined here with a group a while back on a whim and realized we really should have looked at a menu first. It was really last minute so we didn't think to do so. We thought we'd have some meatless options, but there was really nothing we could get besides fried rice. I tried to order a bahn mi sandwich with tofu (as I had at many other Vietnamese restaurants without an issue). They brought out a side of tofu and vegetables plus the bread (uncut without a knife) and said I could just make it myself. They also brought it out long before the rest of my tables' food. The whole experience made for an awkward lunch all in all. The servers all seemed really all over the place and frazzled when it was really not busy at all. I've never dined out and been told to make my own food before. Weird, guys! We definitely don't plan on going back. If you're a meat eater, you may enjoy the food, but the service is very lackluster. read more

Delicious pho, good bun, friendly service and fair prices. So far, this is our favorite pho spot in Des Moines.

Banh mi sandwiches are great... cockroaches crawling on the ground while you are eating here: sickening. Seriously, has the health inspector ever been to this restaurant? The high chairs are sticky & dirty, much like the tables you eat on. read more

Extremely good small pho ga. They also have medium and large. I love their mix of spices on the table as well. Spring roles are good.

I've had the worst service not only once but twice. My boyfriend and I thought it would be nice to bring my mom here since she loves Pho and rarely eats out. Coming from California, I'm very familiar with great quality Pho. We came to Pho 888 for dinner, I completely knew that it was a rush during that time and tried to be patient however we waited 20 minutes before our waitress came to take our order and 50 minutes after that before our food was served. Other customers who were there after us received their food first! Anyways, after that whole ordeal, I thought I'd give them another chance, maybe this time during there slowest time of the day. I arrived at three, I was greeted, and my order was taken after 10 minutes. After waiting 40 minutes after that I walked out. Never again will I ever go there. Never. Don't waste your time. The food is not even that great. read more

Amazing food! Pho and Banh mi subs are top notch. So sad they are closed on Tuesdays! I'm in their parking lot right now as I write this.

1st timer here I can't complain a friend told me about this place I was a little hesitant on going. I had the chicken noodle soup and spring Rolls fire I will definitely come back again. read more

Solid pho and bun with lemongrass pork, even when compared with what I've been eating in San Francisco for years. Don't let the run down strip mall and grungy neighborhood dissuade you. read more

The food was not good. I got a papaya salad because they had nothing in there menu that was vegetarian. So since I saw it had no animal products on the salad I got it. When I got the salad it had big pieces of crab in it. I told them that it was not on the menus that there was crab in it and they said it was a traditional thing. I don't mind if it is but it would have been great if it was on the menu. So they exchanged the meal for a veggie Pad Thai. Which was really nice of them. They are food is ok. I would recommend Pho' All Seasons though. read more

Love it! The # 14 sandwich and #26 noodles are my favorite. Last time we ate there the bahn mi dac biet was SO amazing. The bread was still a little warm! And the bun thit nuong was as good as usual. Service is slow, so go with someone who likes to talk or bring a good book. read more

I can't beleive in all of the times i have been here I've yet to write a review for this amazing place! What can i say, everything here is delicious! I'm a huge fan of the lad na, and as an avid pho connoisseur my boyfriend can say with certainty this is the best pho in town! Also they have bubble tea all year round which is awesome! read more

I ordered bubble tea and the tapioca balls were still frozen in the bottom. There is much better pho other places--the broth was not that good. The restaurant was kind of dirty and there was food all over the floor at the tables next to us, and they were not too busy the day we went. read more

I've lived in Des Moines my whole life and I have only been here a few times. One Sunday, a bunch of my friends and I decided to come here for some much needed hangover pho. We were able to put in our orders really quickly and the food didn't take too long to come out either. Unfortunately, there was a small mix-up between who had what kind of pho but other than that, the service was pretty good. I ordered the #21 and a cafe sua da; all of which only set me back $10. That's an amazing deal after living in a place where pho is over $10. The pho was very filling and pretty tasty but I've had better. I haven't tried anything else on their menu but I'd definitely like to! Overall, this place is good to come and eat some Sunday pho with friends. read more

I ordered their pho with meatball, rare and well done beef, and tendon. It was extremely delicious, and the broth was spot on. I was honestly surprised that an asian food place of this quality exists in the midwest. read more

Stopped here on a cross country trip. Filthy restrooms, poorest server we experienced on this entire trip. Four adults ordered food - one lunch brought out & it was cold, the other three lunches brought out 20 minutes later. Although the server found time to eat her lunch. very yummy! Clean, and and has great service. I will go back again for sure. I had the Pho chicken noodle soup and it was very good!

Had pho #20 and Vietnamese ice coffee here. Both were very good and taste is better than homemade. The parking is not idea since the parking lot is small and shared by several small business. If you are in the mood for a good bowl of pho, this is the place to go. read more

The Bahn Mi is great. Delicious and inexpensive. My favorite thing to eat in when I'm in Des Moines. The only reason I'm not giving it more stars is because this place could use a major cleaning. I always take my sandwich to go to avoid eating in there. read more

The food here is really good, not much to complain about. The service is what brings it down to a 3 for me. Our party waited over an hour for our food and then it didn't come out together either. It might be fine if you're expecting to wait, but for lunch most people can't wait that long. I'd go back if I had plenty if time and wasn't hungry yet. read more

fried rice was honestly pretty dry, The waitress was kinda rude towards my table of younger people (we came in as a bigger group) she was very rushed and told us to "hurry up" I have been there before and have never had a really bad experience but idk she wasn't very polite when taking our order. I have gone there multiple times over the years and I haven't really experienced anything like this yet, but this particular waitress was just kind of irritated a few people sitting with me. read more

Rude customer service! ,dirty tables and unclean plates. Don't even think about using their restrooms,we had to wait 45 min for our food and it wasn't even worth it . I wouldn't even put 1 star for this place. read more

Overall great and authentic food. The menu has a good variety of choices. The only downfall is the serivice. Service is slow and our waters seem to never get refilled especially when eating pho. The pho seems to have a lot of MSG or salt which makes you extremely thirsty afterwards though delicious and worth the thirst. The workers seem to not care much for good service. The only thing that brings us back is the food. The pho is only good during fresh new batches of pho broth as well. The broth is watered down at certain times of the day. They also have things on the menu for example: Sticky rice, that they never seem to have in stock or the steamed rice rolls they had at one point. Sundays around noon can be extra busy and during those days, when they know that it's going to be busy, they should stock up on a few more workers to accomadate the crowd. Overall, Great Food, Bad service. read more

Close to five stars! I come from a city where authentic Vietnamese is our only form of Asian food. And I've tried nearly every place. I'd put Pho 888 in the top 15 percent, no doubt. The pho was flavorful and rich. The rare beef was tender and lean, which I really appreciate. The spring rolls and peanut sauce we very good as well, but not quite as good as they are at my favorite place back home. That is the reason for 4 stars, not 5. But don't worry, I am being fair. The other restaurant in question also got 4 stars as well because there are several things they do not do as well as Pho 888. Definitely worth visiting. Don't hesitate! read more

Impressed with alot of items on the menu. After eating there about 8 times and requesting the waiter for their popular/recommended dishes, the food for the most part was pretty good, but nothing really stands out as amazing. Good Vietnamese Restuarant to try if you want to change palette from your regular Viet place. Note: We didnt find any diaper stations in the mens /womens restrooms, something consider if you're bring infants. Changing them in your car may be an option. read more

Their broth is not homemade. I could tell right off the bat that they use Pho base cubes, which I regularly use In my cooking when I don't want to spend a lot of time making homemade broth. These cubes can be found right at the double dragon next to this restaurant actually! There's nothing wrong with the cubes, and they probably could have passed it off as authentic to me IF it wasn't so diluted. That pretty much gave it away. There is also a very specific consistency to these cubes when made into a broth. The flavor is so rendered down and compact that there is virtually no fat residue in the broth, unlike in homemade pho! I might have come in on a bad day though, I'm not sure. I also found a thick and stubby grey hair on the side of the bowl. The only thing that didn't keep me from being thoroughly grossed out was the fact that it was only on the side of the bowl and not directly in my food. I can accept the hair as something natural that happens sometimes. They also had bad service, the waitress didn't come back to our table once for refills! It was disappointing considering that it wasn't even busy. I could have understood if it was busy. I didn't find the inside too appealing either. It was dirty. They don't take very good care of their floors, tables, Menus, etc... I felt like I didn't want to touch anything. It did not give me that homey feel that I usually like in restaurants. A good things though, is that they give you a lot of stuff to put in your pho, and give you extra bean sprouts if you ask! So don't think they skimp on the beansprouts or anything if you don't see a lot, all you have to do is ask for more! Overall, not the worst, but not very good. If Pho all season or the Vietnamese Cafe in the mall was closed for some reason, I might go here as a last resort. read more
