Delicious pho. Really hit the spot. 10/10 would recommend. No extra charge for using credit card.
Pretty standard bahn mi! There were so many spots to choose from in argyle and we stumbled upon this one. I think i prefer the curry chicken Bahn mi over the standard chicken bahn mi. Service was really quick and staff were kind
We went after the Argyle Night Market. We were looking for vegan options because didn't find many at the market. It was verrry busy and lively so it took almost an hour to order and get our food. It had really good the vegetarian pho. I tried something new with 186. Canh Chua Chay -- it was very tomato-y which I love and okra did not make the soup slimy or sticky! The portion sizes are really big! I could only eat half. It was a really nice place, feels very homey, and very close to the red line stop. Would go again!
The chicken pho I ordered was delicious. Warm, flavorful, and hit the spot on this cold day.
I purchased from this restaurant on yesterday. The meat itself want not consumable because it was so tough. Today, I went to warm it up, and the meat was molded. This is unexceptable, in the video you can actually see the mold in the meat! I am highly disappointed and disgusted.
I came here after an event. I got the bun thit nuong cha gio heo. When looking at the price it seemed a bit pricey but when looking at the portions things made more sense. Service is pretty quick and I would definitely come back. I left full and satisfied.
No-frills, good food! The staff members were nice and checked in on us. I noticed some people working while enjoying their meals, which added to the relaxed vibe. The portions were generous and I had leftovers to take home. My bowl of pho was loaded with plenty of onions which I really loved.
I've been visiting Argyle for over 20 years, but this was my first time dining at Pho 888. I was sad to find that my go-to pho spot now closed, so in search for Pho, I was eager to try something new. Pho 888 restaurant had a cozy, casual café vibe--definitely not fine dining, but welcoming. While the menu was extensive, I really just wanted the pho, but I was tempted to try their other dishes. I ordered the Pho 888 combination bowl for $18.95, and it did not disappoint. The portions were generous, and the broth was rich and savory, with the aroma of star anise coming through beautifully. Overall, I was very satisfied with my meal and would gladly return when I'm in town. Next time, I'd love to explore their rice dishes and appetizers. Definitely try this place!
That #24, Pho Tai Bo Vien or what I like to call beef salad might just be Chicago's best dish. Seriously, it takes my breath away every time I visit the city and get to enjoy it. I've brought friends here, and while the pho is fantastic, the beef salad is truly magical! Just a heads-up: it does have nuts, so if you have an allergy, be sure to let them know. Otherwise, it's an incredible dish that never fails to make me happy and it just might do the same for you!
If their name wasn't clear enough, their menu is straightforward. The owners are some of the friendliest people I've met in the city. I stopped by for a quick meal before a concert. Our entire table ended up ordering pho, and we had no complaints. The servings alone are so generous, a single bowl is enough to feed two people to be honest. I will point out the classic spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, star anise, and coriander) in their broth packs a punch. The flavor really shined through which was a surprise for me who was looking for more of the bone broth flavor.
Fried rice: not much stuff to make this worth 18$ Beef banh mi: a bit too sweet, nothing special. Bun Bo hue: you have to get this. Huge amount for only 17$. This itself can feed 2 people. Just giant. And the flavor is great too. I would give 5 star for this dish. Slightly sweet and very savory soup with lots of thin cut meat flank and a big pork leg(not cooked enough for this one though). Looks spicy but not that bad. Goes well with the rice noodle Thai tea boba: don't get this. Boba's not cooked enough. Too tough. Also too sweet. Feels like the powder bag version of Thai tea you can get for 50 cents in an Asian grocery store. Definitely not worth 6.5$

We ordered online and our order was wrong, we ordered beef spring rolls and they sent shrimp (my partner can't eat shrimp). We also ordered the ga xao me and it was $18.50 and came with probably 4 pieces of chicken. It was almost completely just onions and peppers. And it wasn't even good. One of the worst meals I've had in a while honestly. It was extremely expensive considering we couldn't eat half of it and barely got enough chicken to split the second dish between us. read more

This is the best Vietnamese restaurant that I've had in Chicago for the past 2 years! #8 Cha Gio Tom Thit The crispy egg rolls were a great start to the meal. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. #22 Pho Dac Biet 888 This was a hearty and satisfying dish with a generous amount of flavorful meat. Definitely add some chili oil to make it even better. #15 Banh Xeo This crispy Vietnamese pancake filled with perfectly cooked ingredients. Even though it looks small, there's enough to be a meal on its own. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The menu has so many options, so check them out! read more

We gave this place a try because Cafe Hoàng closes on Wednesday. We ordered bun bo Huế and bún riêu. My first reaction when I looked at the menu was this place is expensive. An average egg roll or spring roll order are $8 per order and most of their dishes are around 16-18 per dish. We can't leave now since we already sat down and drank their water. We decided to order anyway. As soup came out in a large bowls, hence I can see why they charge us so much per bowl. Both bun Bo que and bún riêu were okay. While the flavors were there, it wasn't flavorful. They overcooked our noodles. Overall, we were not impressed and probably would come back because the food is okay and the service were mediocre. read more
I have been to this place once in the past I would say probably in 2016 and at the time I was not a big fan of pho. In 2020 I have made a complete 180. As a resident of Argyle this area is dominated by great Vietnamese cuisine. I liked Pho 888 and my meal and service was good. I will say be careful in Argyle while sitting outside the bees are numerous. That combine with meal it was an over all Suitableexperience. 3 out of 5 read more
Thankfully when we landed at Ohare airport on Thanksgiving day, we were looking for restaurants to eat, but mostly every place was closed. But fortunately we saw this place opened like beacon of light in an empty street of closed restaurants all around the city. Hungrily we entered and were glad to see that not only were there a good number of people there looking for a place to dine for Thanksgiving, but we also saw the family who runs this business also celebrating Thanksgiving as they are working, turkey dinner and all. Gotta respect them for that. We ordered bowls of veggie pho and it definitely hit the spot for a cold evening. The broth was clean and flavorful and the portion was great, not small or lacking. The basil and the sprouts they provided was generous, there was great amount of veggies and all made it a very satisfying and filling meal. Glad that we were able to come to this establishment in our hour of desperation on Thanksgiving night. Thank you Pho888, sleep tight...till we come back for another bite. read more
Friendly service and good food. Came here on one of my monthly trips to Argyle and was surprised at how good this place was and at how long it took me to discover this restaurant. I ordered the pho with the eye round beef. The broth was deliciously flavored and this was probably one bowl of pho with one of the highest meat to noodle ratio I've ever had (which is an excellent characteristics-- more bang for your buck!). Prices were fair -- you're getting a pretty large bowl of pho, especially with the quantity of meat. The noodles were ever so slightly too soft for my liking but otherwise this dish was perfect! I also got an avocado smoothie with boba. The smoothie itself was quite delicious, and I thought I saw them cutting up a fresh avocado up in the back to make it. Yum! The boba itself however was clearly not too fresh and was too soft and would avoid it in the future. Overall, a good meal at a good price point. It's clean and service is very nice here (you go up to the front to pay after you're done eating). read more

Went in for some pho on a weekday. Found parking right up front. Got serviced almost immediately since it was empty . I ordered the signature pho 888 to go, which was delicious. You get a nice sized portion with all the fixens. Restaurant could use a tad sprucing up, as it is a bit on the dingy side appearance wise but the food was good. read more
The other night, I wasn't feeling very well and was craving something hearty and healing. Enter: Pho from Pho 888. I'm usually hesitant to get pho delivered or carried out because it really isn't the same as dining in, but I had a Doordash gift card and a stomachache. I was really impressed with the delivery set up. Everything was wrapped up really well and delivery was very quick; the broth was still super hot when it got to me. I ordered some fresh pork and shrimp spring rolls and Pho Tai Nam, with eye of round and well done flank. Dang, have I been sleeping on flank steak pho! It was meaty and tender and super flavorful. Lesson learned on that one. read more
Huge menu and opened earliest with outdoor seating vs other spots. Broth was to the sweeter side but WOW what a bargain. Huge portion just for $18 and I had the most tender beef tendons. Mine also came with beef balls, flank, raw steak, tripe and more. Noodles didn't have the classic chew. Definitely not the best pho I've had read more

Small spot on Argyle with a really good Bahn Mi. Pickled Veggies, Bread, sauce and grilled chicken were all super. Service is quick and friendly. Parking anywhere on Argyle is difficult. read more

Service: 5/5, decently fast at serving and friendly staff. Cleanliness: 3/5, took their time busing dirty tables (over 10mins) Food: 3/5, ordered a bowl of pho. Good portion size, but the flavoring of the soup was a bit off (too much cinnamon? anise?). read more

This restaurant seems to be family owned and this family DELIVERED. My first time trying pho, by far the best meal I've had in weeks. I devoured everything (okay besides that lil jalapeño). This dish seemed simply but had exquisite flavors. I am very happy with this restaurant. read more
Came here for lunch with my friend around 130 on a Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant is pretty small and simple but the menu is extensive. My friend and I shared an order of shrimp spring rolls. Pretty standard rolls. As an entrée I ordered the bun bo hue and my friend got the pork and egg roll vermicelli. The broth was pretty on point however the pork meat (cha)was a little mushy and over cooked. I'm still on a quest for the perfect bowl of bbh in Chicago.. The plate of herbs was fresh and clean. My friend enjoy his vermicelli dish, the noodles to meat ratio was just right. The basket of condiments on the table was fully stocked and clean, our waters were refilled appropriately. Our meal cost 32 including tip. Would def come back and try different items on menu. read more

This review is exclusively for the papaya salad. Top pick for me in all of Chicago's Vietnamese restaurants. Absolutely perfect...just the right sour to sweet ratio. Sorry about the pic...it was that tasty. read more

Far from being my favorite. I rarely eat this kind of food, but decided to give it a try. I ordered fried rice noodle with tofu and veggies and veg dumplings for take out. The dumplings was soggy with veggies overcooked. Noodles was chunky and tasteless with sloppy pieces of tofu in it, the whole dish looked pretty messy. Maybe because I'm not used to this kind of food, I did not like it. read more

I got the Pho Baby, delivered since I've had an upset stomach all day. I didn't know it came with raw meat in the bag, and the pho tasted very cinnamon-y which is not something I think of when I eat pho. Not sure if I got the wrong order since there was no receipt attached but I didn't love it read more

Coming from Houston (arguably the city with the best vietnamese food in the country), I had high expectations for Pho 888. I was on the lookout for good bun bo hue and decided to come here because my first option was closed. However, I'm really glad I did! I came for dinner and was seated immediately. Ordered a bun bo hue and finished the whole thing. Portion size was great, and the soup was souper (haha) flavorful and the noodles were yummy! It was just *slightly* more watery and sweeter than I was hoping for. Overall, great experience! Pho 888 is definitely on par with viet establishments in Houston! read more

There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants along Argyle, so it's easy to miss this little spot. But I think their Pho is much better than the rest, plus the service is quick and friendly. Stop in sometime instead of going to Tank. read more
Come for the delicious tasting pho! But also got to try their other noodle soups and now I highly recommend their other dishes! (Don't expect much from neither ambience nor service) Food: Pho - 5/5 - based on flavor of broth, noodle texture, slices of meat and freshness of accompanying vegetables Bun bo hue - 5/5 - delicious semi-spicy broth, perfect cuts of beef, eaten with thick/large noodle. This is perhaps the 2nd most famous Vietnamese noodle soups. Mi quang- 5/5 - a lesser known dish of the Central region. It is meant to have scant level of broth. Loaded with caramelized pork, pork sausage, shrimp and quail eggs. A must-try! Bun thap cam (bo nuong, nem nuong, chao tom, bo la lot & cha gio) - 4.5/5 - large filling portion size, delicious savory grilled proteins with fresh crunchy vegetables and perfect fish sauce condiment Banh canh cua - 4/5 - not jumbo lump, but authentic crab meat as well as crab imitation sticks included. Broth was runny and wasn't thick as it should be, Bun mang vit - 4/5 - delicious, but not the best version that I've tried. Other places would include a side salad with this dish. Wish there were more slices of duck. Com suon bi cha - 4.5/5 - very tasty-satisfying, the pork chop was perfectly marinated and grilled. Egg quiche, shredded pork and fish sauce were all fine as well... just wish the protein portions were bit larger Sinh to bo (avocado smoothie) - 5/5 - perfect blend of sweet and creamy Service: Average/mediocre. Don't be afraid to speak up, if you need anything. Ambience: Basic/simple decor. Smallish corner restaurant. read more

Slow, slow, slow, slow, SLOW! Having the day after the New Year off from work, my buddy, fiancee and I decided to make our way out to Argyle St to grab a bowl of pho. Rainy, snowy, overcast weather in general usually makes me crave pho, but after making our way out we found out our go to spot 777 was closed on Mondays so this opened the opportunity to check out 888 just down the way. In comparison to 777, 888 is probably half the size in terms of space, it feels more "hole-in-the-wall", a bit grungier, but had that charming mom and pop shop feel at the same time. The restaurant was probably at about 60% capacity with maybe 4 or 5 tables already seated ahead of us. Once our table of three figured out what we wanted, we promptly put in our orders... 45 minutes later, after watching each of the tables ahead of us with looks of hanger and frustration finally get their food, our food was up. I don't think I've ever waited so long for a bowl of pho... The wait for food was so long we had to go extend our street parking. Who knew I'd spend over an hour here. If you can with stand the wait, honestly the food is a solid 4 stars. I did #29 Pho Tai Gan or the rice noodle pho soup with eye round beef & soft tendon. I've always been a fan of tendon in pho as it's essentially a beef flavored gummy bear. For $9.99, I think the portion could've been bigger. The fiancee had order #22 Pho Dac Biet 888 which essentially was their combo pho with a bit of everything from rare beef, well done beef, tendon, tripe & meatballs. Although this costs a bit more at $12, it does come in a larger bowl. Yet still price seems steep. Last thing that errks me about some of the restaurants on Argyle is that if you pay with card, they ask you ahead of time how much you want to tip so they can just ring it in as one transaction. Always found this to be awkward, because if the service was that slow of course you're not going to end up tipping as much. Good thing we brought cash that day. Anyways, 'til next time. 12/365 read more

Went in the am, when it was not busy at all. The place is really small about 5 to 6 tables. Waitress does not speak much English, but they understand enough to get your order accurate. I tried the Chicken Pho and pork belly spring rolls. The Chicken Pho was extremely flat lack in flavor, felt to me like they diluted the broth and added more star anise and ginger. The pho came with it side of veggies, and beans sprouts, limes, and Thai basil. The presentation of the chicken Pho was great, but it lacked on flavor. The vegetables taste like soap, it left an after taste after eating them. The pork belly spring roll was ok, the mint added over power the rest. I couldn't find any pieces of pork belly in the spring roll either. The condiments on the table side was great, specially the hot chili with oil to add spice to your Pho. read more

Pho 888's broth is very clear and not oily which is good. However, the flavor of the broth fell flat for me. It was a bit heavy on the anise and tasted a bit too sweet such that the beef bone flavor was mostly masked. The veggie plate that came with the broth was not as diverse as the one at Tank Tank which gives you many different herbs and jalapenos to put in the broth. The sliced beef was not as tender as Tank's. However, price wise ..it's $2 cheaper than Tank's read more

Well what can I say, i've been coming to this amazing place for the past 7 years and it has always been consistently amazing! From the oxtail pho, to the Pork Chop meal, Beef Stew Pho, Shrimp Rolls, Fried Potstickers, Vietnamese Coffee and the Mango Smoothies! Ask for extra hot pho, helps keep it all warm enough long to devour! The amazing hard working ladies are absolutely remarkable, as well as the hardworking team in the kitchen making the magic happen as well! read more
