This is a hidden gem! I found this restaurant while scrolling through TikTok's for hidden gems near our hotel. I ordered barbecue pork and shrimp bowl which was like a salad and my husband got a brisket steak soup. We also tried eggrolls which were so so. He didn't answer. They were not warm and hospitable. Just short with me and not really explaining some questions I had for some items on the menu that I wasn't aware of. They just wrote me off. It's a struggle to find good pho, even though there's countless restaurants in SoFlo. However, Pho 79 consistently does a great job with flavor, portion sizes, and service. Unlike American restaurants, Pho 79 is a very quick-paced restaurant; it is extremely busy during peak hours, but people are in and out constantly. Although some may say that it is lacking in cleanliness, I've never experienced a dirty table or utensil. However, I am unsure of their current coronavirus precautions. I've ordered their bun bo hue and pho dac biet -- both were deep and rich with flavor. They also give you a large plate of vegetables, so you don't have to feel bad to ask for more. They have a special jar of spicy sauce on their tables that I add to everything, even the already spicy bun bo hue. Coming from the Twin Cities where the vienamese food scene is bomb (I live in NYC now and sadly the viet options are lacking - though improving every year), this place was a pleasant surprise. My mom is superrr picky about her pho and she was commenting that the broth was good, so that's a win. Love that there are three different size options for the pho, and the small was truly the perfect portion size. We ordered the spring rolls and fresh rolls as an app, and the spring rolls were so good we got some to go. The only improvement I would recommend is to offer fresher bean sprouts, the plate we received looked mediocre so I didn't bother to add them to my pho, which is too bad bc I usually really enjoy them. I had the bun ho hue. It's my favorite food, and theirs was the best I've ever had! Ugh it was so good. The others agreed the pho was pretty good but not as good as the bun bo hue was. So let me set the scene. I'm feeling under the weather and think to myself, pho would be perfect! My first choice (pho by Vinh) is closed so I decide to try Pho 79. I place my order online - super easy, I'm feeling good. I ride with my finance to the spot - and he hops out to get the food. He comes back to the car and says he needs a confirmation of the order, so I screen shot the order confirmation from my email and send it right away. He heads back to restaurant. 2 minutes later he's back outside--- with no food. Why you ask? When he advised a female hostess, who we will call the guardian of the pho that he was picking up a to-go order. The zealous guardian stated that she needed the name for the order, which my fiancé verbally provided. The hostess then stated that she needed to physically see the name on the receipt -- which was a bit strange. Red flag #1 When he returned with the screenshot, which displayed the order number, phone number and time of the order the hostess proceeded to tell him the screenshot "wasn't nothing." He tried to give a phone number, describe the contents of the order -- yet all attempts were rejected by the guardian of the pho. When he asked if she could check the order by phone number or order number, she said yes but there were "too many orders." There were no other Togo order on the counter and only two tables in this quite large restaurant were occupied. Red flag #2. I then have to get out of the car -- to show the full email where a gentleman behind the counter , scrolled down to confirm the contents of the order -- the same contents my finance attempted to provide to the guardian of the pho 10 minutes prior. After that he proceeded to hand me the SINGLE order sitting on the take out counter. The gentleman was apologetic- but by that point the damage was done. While there were many problems with this story, I would like to speak directly to the folks at pho 79 to explain why the customer service we experienced was so offensive that in inspired me to type this lengthy post, despite my present symptoms. 1. Respect - When a person makes the decision to patronize your business - they should be treated with respect. As the only black people I saw in the restaurant, I can't say for certain that race played a part but I have a hard time believing the dismissive tone, lack of helpfulness and "hurry up and buy" attitude would have been utilized in GCP's interactions with other ethnic groups. 2. Stop the cap and find solutions - rather than come up with every excuse in the world for why you were unable to confirm the single Togo order ready on the counter belonged to me - I encourage you all to find solutions. The phone did not ring the entire time I was in the restaurant and when I called the restaurant to find out why it was taking so long for my fiancé to come back with the food-- y'all did not even answer the phone. 3. Remember first impressions matter - we love pho, live local and this was our first time visiting your restaurant. It will also be our last because of one employees nasty disposition. When you hire employees who will interact with your customers regularly, remember this experience and do better. 4. If you are going to guard pho take out orders like they have 24k gold as the main ingredient- at least make sure there aren't any hairs in it. Don't come here for a fine dining experience, but come instead for flavorful authentic Vietnamese food. House music was blasting from the kitchen, and made me feel rushed during my meal. The place was bustling around 1 pm on a weekday, with both take out and sit in orders. I enjoyed a simple chicken pho, which was tasty and filling. Broth was a basic chicken broth, but I was welcomed with a generous helping of add-ins (lime, jalapeño, bean sprouts, Thai basil and culantro) and there were many condiments available at the table. I love stopping by this small pho place in Davie when I do my Asian grocery shopping at Food town. The staff is friendly and remembers you even though you only come once in a while. It's a drive from Miami Beach. The beef pho is my favorite and sometimes I'll add meatballs. Pho always clears my sinus all the herbs boiled for hours with bone for the broth. Yummy. It is always good and fast service here. I also love the bun Bo hue a spicy broth. The menu is good and you must try the vermicelli noodle and rice dishes. Tip: both of the Pho 79 locations were better than Pho 78. While both Pho 79 locations are good, this location size small Pho is smaller than the one in Doral. Had a seen a sample of it beforehand I would've gotten the medium. I opted to get a meatless Pho this time. Only because I wasn't eating meat yesterday. I still got the beef broth though. The vegetarian Pho didn't sound that appetizing. It had carrots, broccoli and some other stuff that I didn't want. As usual my Pho was delicious. My date was a little nervous because I told him that his beef would be a little raw and he would need to give it time to cook in broth. While he'd heard that the food was good from someone else, they didn't tell him that the meat was raw. Lol! He ended up loving it anyway though. He also ordered some type of shrimp rolls (I forgot the actual name of them). I didn't try any simply because I wanted spring rolls but they didn't look fried. So I just had my Pho. The staff was nice and attentive. Whenever I needed something, they assisted me quickly. Oh and last night was my first time eating my Pho with chopsticks and I survived! Yay me!
