Bun Rieu - 3.5 stars. Tomato base was nostalgic for me. The tofu was nice and spongy/soft. Fri dinner 2024-12-20
Ziyan C.

No wait on a Friday night around 5:30pm for 7 of us. They had plenty of space for any group size. It cost $25 total including tax/tip for 1.5 large pho bowls. Service was fast and friendly * Bun Rieu - 3.5 stars. I couldn't taste the crab, and I've only had this dish a couple times, but the tomato base was nostalgic for me. The tofu was nice and spongy/soft.

This has been my Pho Ga spot after the Turtle Towers closed. Their version is as just good, notably the order with gizzards and livers. A large bowl should fill you up. I would go out of the way to have it here. The Deep Fried Wings were decent and should go well with rice. The Bun Rieu was decent though broth was on the sweet side. Bun Bo Hue I'm not sure would get it again. The Spring Rolls are also big but is full of lettuce and rice noodle as fillers. As a result, it's bland and the dipping sauce was just okay - could not saved it. Plenty of metered and residential street parking in this busy area as there are many eateries around.

5 spice chicken: Decent piece of chicken but is it really 5 spice. I swear they're just buying the seasoning for my past 2 dishes from hoi wah. Fish sauce was more of a sweet and sour sauce, you can see the redness of it. It was tender at least. Also cmon... half a slice of tomato. Fool me once shame on me fool me twice... ya know. Apparently the pho ga is good but I'm done. Catch me at pho recipe if anyone wants the best pho ga in the city

Good little spot. Have been coming here for 6 years. Chicken salad pretty good. Pho is good. Cash only.

Came in and got seated right away as a party of 4! The store had a good amount of seats inside and has decent flow of customers. Our party ordered Imperial Rolls as an appetizer and I ordered the Bun Bo Hue as my main dish. Imperial Rolls: 5/5 These came out fast and was super fresh. The skin was crispy which I loved! Bun Bo Hue: 5/5 The soup was piping hot when it came out. Came with a good amount of meat as seen in the picture. I can tell they did not skimp out on the meat/ingredients to cook the broth as it was so tasty! Service was friendly and very attentive! Would definitely come back again if I'm in the area.

The Bun Bo Hue was GREAT. Though the vegetables on the side did not look fresh so I did not eat them.

Omg I was amazed at how good this chicken pho was! Place is like a typical older pho restaurant, but the food is great. Pho seems fresh and broth was perfect. Good service but it was definitely hard to find parking. We drove around for a good 20 minutes to find something :(

their bunrieu is exceptionally good here!!

This review is solely based on their bun rieu. I'm such a fanatic for this dish that I honestly have no interest trying anything else on their menu LOL. Since the pandemic, I've been satisfying my almost weekly cravings of bun rieu from this restaurant. This one surprisingly does not serve it with any pork cake, sadly :( (and porks blood) like most other places do BUT that's okay. The taste and authenticity makes up for it. I usually order a small/regular portion and it usually comes with enough noodle and soup to feed TWO people. Sometimes if I'm feeling fat and mighty, I end up eating the whole order to myself which ends up into a major food coma...definitely do not recommend doing that if you want to have a productive day hahahaha. As of right now, I don't believe the restaurant is open for dine in since the doorway is still being blocked from the last time I ordered from them which was this past week.

Lots of peanuts!

We had chicken salad and the usual stuff, the pho. The only bad thing about this location, street parking is very hard. The second time I had the food was by Uber Eats. I also ordered the salad. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as I had the first time. But it came with a lot of peanuts.

Cash only! Pho #1 is apparently known for their Chicken Pho, so I ordered a small of that. No need for a large unless you are super hungry, but for some perspective, a small fed my 6'3" guy friend fine. The chicken pho was really delicious! The broth tasted clean, and the chicken was nicely shredded. The flat rice noodles tasted fresh, with a great chewy consistency. Perfect for a chilly day, recovering from a cold, or satisfying a need for some comfort food. I also ordered the 3 Color Drink. I think the ratio of toppings to drink was a little off for my liking. I ended up tossing half the drink because it was just the toppings in the end with no liquid. My friend got their mango slushy, and it tastes as if they blended the Costco mango nectar juice with some ice and sold it for $5. Both drinks were not worth getting in my opinion.

Five Spices Chicken with Rice

Busy, busy San Bruno Avenue. Cars double parked, cars waiting at parking lot entrances for people to leave, people living in cars in one lot, person changing their oil in the same lot, what the heck, it's a turn-off to go into the area unless you live close by or are just desensitized to the whole car congestion thingy.... So we found a space around 11am to have an early lunch on a Sunday. Short walk to Pho Uno with no wait, place filled up within half an hour. Cash only place for large bowls of Pho, Bun, and Rice plates. Wife had Grilled Pork, Fried Viet Roll over Vermicelli Noodles with side of fish sauce, I had Five Spice Chicken over Rice with a bowl of House soup. Tasty main courses with a lot of food, had better Five Spice Chicken elsewhere but it was passable. Need more Five Spice... wife's Bun was huge and she boxed it up for dinner. Service was passable. Around $11 per person with tax and tip for lunch.

Pho #1 is not my #1 choice for pho. My roommate ordered a pho and I ordered a pork vermicelli through DoorDash. Firstly, they never notified that our food was ready and the step kept showing that they were preparing our order, even when we got home with the food. We just went in to check because it was taking way longer than we expected, so if your order doesn't move, just go in and check. My vermicelli was fine. The portion was really big, packed to the top with a lot of meat. My roommate, on the other hand, ordered pho but got thick flat noodles. In addition, she thought the flavor was off and broth was too oily.

Once you are find a seat, you can order from the touch screen ordering The menu is simple , first you can choose hot or cold soba, and for tenzaru and tenkake set you choose either tempura or kaikage. There is also other lr soba choices. For small bites it has chicken tenders, braised pork, and and mochi for dessert. We ordered tenzaru and tenkske with shrimp kaikage. We also ordered kakesoba, chicken tender and mochi. Both cold and hot soba are unique and yummy. I like soba texture and yhe broth cold and hot are yummy. The kaikage is unique as it is a bit chewy. The chicken tender is ok. Mochi is yummy. Looks like one of the worker is the owner and he was friendly. Overall it was a good lunch. You have to be patient if you want to have a meal here. I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). Since I was alone, I got to skip the line and only waited 15 minutes. The ramen was great. I would love to come again and try new one. Their duck chashu is SO GOOD. We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

We've been here maybe a handful of times at this point - the food is really good, cute cozy spot…read more However now that there is a soy allergy to account for - I can't easily neccessarily revisit my favorite spots. I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

We were glad we took her advice because everyone was stuffed by the end of our meal. Their galbi jim was flavorful, with extremely tender beef and chewy rice cakes. We ordered the lowest level of spiciness and while there was still a kick, it was extremely manageable. Once we got seated, they were pretty prompt to give us utensils, napkins, cups, and water. The two of us shared the Braise Beef Galbi Stew. It's more than enough for 2 people to go home in food comas (with some food remaining) and for 3 to be sufficiently full. If you have big eaters, order an app alongside if you have 3 people. The Galbi stew was exceptional. I liked that they had various levels of spiciness. We went with spicy and it had a nice kick that elevated the dish for me. The beef was very tender and flavorful and the veggies and rice cakes soaked up all the juices. And the cheese was so stretchy! I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
