How convenient is the Phlash?! With my SEPTA key card, it's free to get from Old City to the art museum. When it's rainy or super-hot/humid, it beats walking. We waited for over 50minutes at a bus stop waiting while the app showed two busses parked elsewhere. It's advertised to pass every 8 minutes but there are such few busses that there is no way that is possible. Would have been great if it actually delivered what it promised. Not a fan. Their website says to contact them anytime for customer service but they never responded to my 3 emails. Our QR code had an error but glad they still let us on - we were just kind of worried they wouldn't. The day we booked it it was on a detour way out of town and we weren't notified about that until the bus took the detour - we had no idea where we would end up or if we could get off the bus early. Not satisfied. Driver was surly and changed route, completely missing my stop. (5). Had to ride for an additional 15 minutes and had to get off at stop 11 and walk to my stop, 25 minutes late. Today in Philadelphia, two streets around City Hall were closed, which caused a long delay in the PHLASH bus arriving. However, this was not communicated to us through the tracker on the website. A group of us waited for over 45 minutes when it should've only been fifteen. There was no communication or certainty that it was even coming to get us and we all felt very left in the dark when it came to our transportation. read more

Ugh, no one wants to spend a day dragging a tourist around and having to navigate city streets and parking to all the major spots downtown. Too much stress. That's where the PHLASH came in dead handy! We came in from Haddonfield using Patco and got off at the 8th and Market Stop. From here, we walked over to the Reading Terminal Market for a quick visit and then headed over to 12th and Market for the PHLASH stop. Pay $5 cash per person, exact change please, and you now have an all day ride that hits all the major downtown must-sees. PRO TIP: Pick up the map by the front door that shows each stop and what you will be able to see there. Don't be in a rush - the literature says buses stop every 15 minutes, but I could've sworn it was a lot longer to wait for the next one to stop by at some of the stops. It's a good time to let your feet rest after all the walking you are wont to do. read more

We opted to buy day passes twice during our trip. We found the phlash convenient, fast, and most of our drivers were knowledgeable and friendly. In all, there are 22 stops that will take you from Penn's Landing all the way to the Rocky Steps at the Art Museum. You are free to get on and off as you please of you opt for the day pass ($5) otherwise its $2/ride. Additionally, phlash partnered with several parking lots in city center to offer an $8 flat rate (9am-7pm) which makes life as a tourist that much easier. The only downside was that a few of our phlash drivers would speed past stops if no one clicked the button to stop. Jeez. The majority of your clientele are tourists...by the time we figured out where we were...the bus had already passed the stop. read more

I had a very limited experience with the Phlash, only riding it one stop (about 3/4 of a mile) one time. However, I could afford to do so because I have a SEPTA Key! If you have a SEPTA Key, it does not matter how much money or passes you have loaded onto it, the Phlash is a completely free service. Just show it to the driver and be on your way. Compare that to the day pass rate of $5... You can get a SEPTA Key with a minimum balance of $10, that's the same cost as two day passes on Phlash and you can also use that balance on the subway or trolley. I already had a SEPTA Key since I used the subway to get into downtown from Amtrak. I'm not sure if this policy will last forever, so use it while you can! On my quick hop back to the downtown Marriott from the Liberty Bell, I found the bus seat to be extremely comfortable. The ride was fast and the bus driver was friendly. I even had a minute to check out the mobile web app for the Phlash and thought it looked quite helpful. If I were to come back to Philly to really see the sights, I would use Phlash again, especially if it is still free with SEPTA Key. read more

The Phlash is inexpensive and worth it if you are going to be in the city traveling around site seeing. If you plan on more than one day, it is worth it. I purchased a booklet of ticket events at the visitor center and included in the packet is a two day ride on the PHLASH. The buses are pretty clean and the drivers are friendly, helpful and informative. The biggest gripe is that they never seem to be on time and you wait an extra 15 minutes over their scheduled time of arrival. The stops are spread out so you still find yourself walking around. It still beats walking especially if the weather is not favorable. Perfect way to get to the Reading Terminal Market, the art museum or the penitentiary. read more

This IS the best way to get around Philly. There are 20 "key" stop locations which just happened to include both of the hotels where I stayed. Plus, the buses stop at all the major tourist attractions! Check the link above for those locations! The price is great, just $1 each time you hop on or you can get an all-day pass for $4. Hop on. Hop off. Where you like! And you can't miss these buses. They are purple, really purple. Also, be prepared to stand. You can't always get a seat. This bus system runs from May until September. At $10 for a full day family pass, this is a great deal. The bus system hits all of the major tourist sites and even goes out to the Please Touch Museum. Also, two of the three buses that we rode had an extra employee on board that could answer tourist questions and get directions, etc. When we were visiting, it was about 95-97 degrees out and the buses that we rode had A/C, but it wasn't really able to keep up with the heat, consequently, we were pretty hot on the bus. Nevertheless, we were able to see all of the sites from Independence Hall, all the way up to the Please Touch Museum (reviewed) on the cheap. Other 'tourist' buses in the city cost around $27/person, though they are narrated, the Phlash is not. read more

A great service when it works which seems to be about 30% of the time (at least this weekend). We rode or attempted to ride it three times. The first time was seamless. Bus came on time and the ride was pleasant. The next two times it was very late...the last time it was going to be at least one and a half hours late so we gave up. What sort of service is that? I am a life long metro area resident who has long come into the city to see the attractions but just recently have I rode on PHLASH to get to the Philadelphia Zoo. I think its really a great way to get around. We got into the city by Septa train before 10 am so we started at Suburban and walked passed several stops before sitting on a bench at 22nd and the Parkway. The bus got there around 10:25. I know they run every 12 minutes during the day but I think it would be a great idea if they put on the sign the approximate time the first bus arrives at the stop. When the did get there, it was pretty crowded and some people at my stop couldn't get on and the driver didn't tell them when another one would come or call for a special bus. (there was about 20 people in a photography club trying to make it up to the zoo) Loved how I could use my septa trail pass and an independence pass for my boyfriend to ride all day. read more

It was $5 for the day, and no headache with downtown traffic of trying to find your way around town No hunting all over for parking spots or dealing with crazy ass drivers. Like all other goods and services, those who would use the Phlash trolley service are advised "buyer beware". In particular, when you board a Phlash trolley, and before you pay the fare, ask the driver if they are going to the stop you want to reach, and if the trolley will travel the complete route, as advertised. On July 4th, my wife and I boarded a Phlash trolley at 16th and Market St., with the intention of going to Penn's Landing. The driver took our money, and gave us two tickets for single rides. He said nothing at that time to indicate that the trolley would not complete its normal route, nor were there any signs posted that would indicate that the trolley was not going to Penn's Landing. However, shortly after the trolley pulled out into traffic on Market St., heading East, the driver announced on the PA system that the next stop, at 12th and Market, would be the last stop of the day, and that the trolley service was ending. When the trolley stopped at 12th and Market, we asked the driver why, at the time that we bought our tickets, he had not mentioned that service was being halted, and that the very next stop would be the last one for the day. He blustered that he had been making this announcement all along, but had to admit that he had not told us this, before he took our money. Another couple, who had bought two all day passes were similarly surprised by his announcement. He told us and the other couple that he could not give us a refund, nor issue a "rain check", to be used on another day. When we said that he had acted irresponsibly, he said that he was taking responsibility, because he had said that, "he was sorry". He may have said he was "sorry", but his behavior showed that he was anything but sorry. read more

At $1 per ride, this is the cheapest way to get around Center City. The big purple PHLASH trolley goes from the Art Museum to Olde City, pretty much sticking to the Market Street area, but, heck, it's cheaper than SEPTA if you need to go somewhere in the area. It's mainly for tourists, but I caught it one day because I had to go from 18th and Market to 6th and Market, and my bus was late (big surprise). For $1, I got a fast, comfy ride with a very nice trolley driver. I'd ride it again, even though I'm not a tourist. Too bad the PHLASH only goes in Center City. read more

This bus company was not bad but it was not good. The cost is $5 for a full day pass. The first bus was just a little late but it was very crowded. Waiting for 15-20 minutes for a bus is a long time considering you can walk half of market street in that time. For people who don't want to walk much, this is a very good deal. The drivers drive pretty fast so make sure you decide what number stop you want in advanced so the moment the driver announces the next stop, you can press the stop button or else they might just speed past the stop. Also their service stops at 5pm so if you are at the museum until it closes, you're out of luck. read more

I am not sure why anyone would take the hop on hop off bus at $30 each when phlash is $5 for all day pass or $2/ride. It stops at all the major philly attractions. It also ran very close to schedule when we took it. Drivers nice, bus clean, ac on high on a hot summer day - I highly recommend this for all tourists visiting Philly. $5 for an all day pass to get to the sites in Philly is a great deal. I only used the one way $2 ride , after having had lunch at Reading market, got on the 16th & Market stop to the zoo. The wait was about 15mins for the bus but when we transferred to the connector to go to the zoo, at the Art Museum, the bus was right there. read more

This is great way for visitors to get around town for $5 per day or $2 per ride. It takes a loop around the major sites of Philly. The stops are easy to find, they are located at pretty much all the places folks wish to visit, it's air conditioned and was mostly on time. The bus can get crowded at times but it was only for short periods. There is no need for a car unless you're planning on heading outside of the main areas of Philly. While this doesn't provide the same visitor experience as the hop on/hop off buses, it does get you from A to B for a very reasonable price. read more

First impression was mostly positive. Prompt pick-up on Market St and dropped off at the art museum to transfer to the zoo. The driver from the art museum to the zoo was friendly and informative, sharing the history of Fairmount Park. However, the reason for the less than stellar review is that the bus never returned to the zoo for its last scheduled stops. I waited in the rain with my kids for 45 minutes. Calls to Phlash customer service went to voice mail. After it was apparent no bus would be coming I got an Uber so we wouldn't miss our train. I wouldn't trust using the service again, and certainly not on the zoo loop where there are fewer buses running. read more
