The business was started by John's father and eventually passed down to John, who continues the family tradition with an incredible amount of pride in his craft. John personally came out to replace our riser and hose bib/spigot, and his work was exceptional from start to finish. You can immediately tell that plumbing isn't simply a job to him--he genuinely loves what he does. He has been taking things apart, digging around, and fixing things since he was a child, and that lifelong curiosity and hands-on experience really show in his work. John was incredibly thorough throughout the entire process--from inspecting the area and providing a clear estimate to carefully procuring high-quality brass and copper materials from a trusted supplier and completing the installation. His prices are very competitive, but what matters most to me is that he is honest, transparent, extremely skilled, and never cuts corners. He patiently answered all of my questions and explained the process along the way. I actually enjoyed watching him solder/sweat the copper and learning about plumbing! You can see the pride he takes in his craftsmanship. John also gives back to the community by volunteering his plumbing services on weekends, which speaks volumes about the person behind the business. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found John and SJ Plumbing. From now on, they will be our first call for our plumbing needs. We could not be more grateful! A tip for fellow Yelpers: Ask questions about the repair, what materials will be used, and what the work will involve. And especially during hot weather, please have some fresh, cold water available for your plumber. These professionals often work for hours in extreme heat, and we want the hardworking people taking care of our homes to stay safe and hydrated! Five stars without hesitation. Thank you, John and SJ Plumbing! YAY!

Almost every other plumber on here wants to pressure you with a "free estimate" and decide what they want to charge you once they show up (even for a straightforward job that doesn't require anyone to visit your house to give you a price). Chris is honest, polite, and easy to work with. Showed up on time, wore booties in the house, kept everything clean and took everything with him. Reasonable price compared to others. That's where I called Chris the Plumber who gave a fair quote to replace the irrigation valve and he sent his associate to replace it. We got a new irrigation valve but it turns out my gardener's diagnosis about the irrigation value didn't resolve it after all. We notified Chris and he came himself to troubleshoot the issue and it turned out to be a broken sprinkler head letting out too much water. He capped it and recommended to have our gardener replace the sprinkler head because a gardener would charge less than he would. Awesome job Chris for resolving the issue!

When I asked for a ballpark…read moreprice, I was told they needed to come onsite to inspect the situation before they could provide an estimate. That seemed reasonable. Once they arrived, however, I was quoted a price that was roughly twice what I expected. The technician referenced a price/specification list, which makes me question why they couldn't have provided at least a general estimate over the phone, with the usual disclaimer that the final price could vary depending on the actual situation. I take responsibility for agreeing to the work instead of declining and getting another quote, but I was uncomfortable with the way the pricing was handled. It left me feeling that I wasn't given enough information to make an informed decision before the technician arrived. The actual job took less than two hours, and I felt the final price was extremely high for the work performed. I would not use Prodigy again for two reasons: Lack of pricing transparency and what I consider a poor business practice. Extremely expensive pricing compared with what I expected for this type of repair.
