We came here for dinner and, let's be honest, to watch the World Series. (And no, I'm still not happy the Dodgers won, but that's a rant for another review. LOL.) We usually dine inside the main restaurant, which is great too, but this spot is right off the course with tons of tables and TVs everywhere, perfect for sports, snacks, and emotional support during extra innings. The staff managed to seat all eight of us, which already felt like a small miracle. We started ordering drinks and appetizers, and I was starving. Like, the kind of starving where my daughter and I both turn into tiny gremlins who should not be approached without caution. If you've ever been within six feet of me when I'm hangry, you know your best move is to evacuate the area immediately. So I asked for bread before the dark side fully took over. They brought rolls that were... interesting. Sweet? Savory? Peppery? Honestly, I still don't know what was happening on top of them, but I ate them anyway because survival mode was fully activated. For entrées, I ordered the chicken pot pie and my daughter got the chicken piccata. I'm still undecided whether my pot pie was genuinely amazing or if I was just ravenous, but I demolished the entire thing. and the size of that dish is not for the feint of heart. My daughter also wiped out her piccata, and she's three, so that's basically a Michelin endorsement. All in all, the food was delicious, the vibes were fun, and we had a great time, even if the World Series outcome has me emotionally damaged. 4 stars and we'll definitely be back! read more

Orange and pink skies await you on the patio at Phil's Grill. From the friendly hostess to our attentive waitress ( Sam) every detail made the experience so pleasant. Chicken picccata did not disappoint and could match any 5 star Italian restaurant. Perfect amount of capers with the tangy lemon sauce. The green beans and asparagus were grilled to perfection. The Chicken sandwich was a very generous portion but was so delicious it had to be totally consumed without asking for a doggy bag. The wine list was adequate but could have a few more choices. This is a sprawling restaurant with two names Quill Creek Cafe and Phil's Grill but it's all the same menu. They have two very, very large patios which face north and maybe a little east so you really don't get much direct sun in the afternoon or evening unless you sit far away from the building and covered terrace. They have lots of outdoor heaters so if you do want to sit outside when it's cool they can fire those up for you. They even have TVs so you can see whatever sports event they may have on. Phil's Grill is a little more golf club-like in its atmosphere. They only have happy hour on Wednesdays so make a note. The menus are fairly common American food. They do have some calamari and nachos but other than that it's pretty standard salads, sandwiches and a few meat and seafood entrées. It's safe to come here for a decent meal but it's not a "dining destination" in my opinion. The atmosphere is quite the draw especially if you are out on the patio. We had a black Manhattan which was nicely not too sweet at all and a grande margarita which was a monster in size. Both were tasty and priced at $14 and $20 respectively. We enjoyed the calamari which came out on a large cast-iron skillet, it had lots of pepperoncini slices over it and a sweet Thai chili sauce. The rings were very, very small but they were very tender. A buffalo roasted cauliflower wedge salad was interesting and I added blackened chicken. I needed a little more dressing and I would've preferred fresh raw onions to the crispy onions that were served with it but all in all it was very good. The chicken sandwich was decent as well. Fairly certain that we will return given the venue and the proximity to our lodging. Most likely will try happy hour as we had some wings here in the past and they were tasty! read more

I don't eat at golf courses much, primarily because the ones that have food available close to home are less than desirable; but a lunch meeting for business brought me to Phil's. We ate out on the patio with a view that made concentrating on conversations a bit more difficult. Sunny, 80 degrees, light breeze. It would take a lot of that to hurt a guy. Service was excellent. Friendly and providing just enough attention to make sure our drinks were full and our meals were meeting expectations. I had the Prime Rib sub. A coworker had a salad with perfectly seared tuna. Both were excellent; cooked and seasoned just right, hot, and perfectly portioned. The price is a bit higher than a non-golf course seated meal, but as expected for the view, quality of food, and excellent service. Highly recommended! read more

This is in the Grayhawk Clubhouse (not to be confused with Quill Creek which you have to walk through to get to Phil's). Phil's is more bar-esque but very much so country club feel still. Named for the great local golf hero Phil Mickelson. The food and service is always great. I believe our servers name yesterday was Sarah, very friendly and right amount of attentive. We had a meeting and we're sitting there for a while. Free WiFi, no password required. The filet mignon salad is delicious mmm I love it! Pieces of very tender filet, chopped mixed greens (not the cheap kind) and excellent blend of flavors. Outside seating during the 'winter' is fantastic, views of the golf course, man-made lake and the mountain range in the back. read more

We have been going to Phil's for 15 years. Last night we had a bad experience with both service and food. The server (tall blond) was totally disinterested and rude. Slow to take our order, food slow to come out and at the end of the meal she threw down the bill. Food was average but they charged $11 for a side salad!! No excuse for the bad service as we were one of three groups in the restaurant. This has been our "go to" place for years. I am sad that it now won't be. read more

Great after golf, for a lunch or even dinner. At Grayhawk GC and same kitchen serves the main dining room. Public is welcome, and I think the best fries in Phoenix are found here. Service always excellent, particularly Lindsay and Scotty. Food also fresh and customizations are available. Barn burger is great, but truthfully I have sampled many of the menu items and have yet to be disappointed. Separate kids menu has great options. Mine like the chicken fingers (so do I) and burger the best. Also a great spot for an evening beverage looking out over the golf course and McDowell Mountains. There is never a bad evening at Phil's. They have great drink options, delicious food, and a beautiful view. They have live music on some nights, and it's always the perfect addition to the setting. This is a Happy Hour Review I like what Thomas has to say so I won't do a boring repeat but because of 2010 dollars and sh*&ty service, I can only give them three stars. There are just too many great options around Grayhawk, DC Ranch, Desert Ridge, etc that have happy hour specials. Yeah yeah yeah you get what you pay for here and yeah maybe this place isn't for Happy Hour, but at least throw a special on a Tuesday night, guys. Also, when the number of staff = number of patrons, don't wait for us to come to the bar for a refill - check the sofa area now and then. Now, the prime rib sliders and corn chowder are so goddam kick-ass good that I have to give them at least three stars. We liked that you can order as many or as few sliders as you like so that is cool. They are almost a meal. read more

I absolutely love their salads, their soups, their burgers and they have a good selection of beer and wine... I even love the summertime when I do the Penguin club, you get the discounted Golf and you get free lunch in one of the restaurants so it's great! The food today was superb. The service on the other hand...was not. I suggest the Navajo corn chowder and the soft pretzel bread. The cheese was ooy-gooy goodness. Our server Amber was phenomenal. She came out with a very happy attitude and stayed positive throughout the entire meal. Amber gave us a pitcher of water so we wouldn't get thirsty. Amber was the only server working at the time and there were 4 capable men unwilling to help us or get any orders right. To top it off she filled our drinks as fast as we finished them. ASK FOR AMBER AND YOU CAN'T GO WRONG. Three members of my family had the prime rib sandwich and said that it was the best prime rib sandwich they had ever had. This is a very pleasant grill room that serves mostly the golfers who play Grayhawk's great courses. But it is also a good spot to down some cold ones or have lunch as I did recently. It was busy when we were there and it was quite loud with (mostly) foursome's of gentleman grabbing food and a beer after their round. TVs and leather chairs for sports watching as well. Ahhh...the lingering country club lunches at Phil's Grill. Those were the days. When I lived in the white, homogenized and frankly, boring, world called DCRanch, I often met up with my roomie at Phil's. Sort of the anti Zipp's sports bar. Of course there are the obligatory plasma tvs. The views of the course are great as you nestle into a comfie sofa . I felt like the old farts in the movie Trading Places. We'd sit in those big leather chairs by the fireplace and count our money. Once, I counted $27 in one pocket alone! The food here is fantastic, as it should be for a mogul like myself. Favorites include the Sonoran chicken pasta with fresh grilled corn, the prime rib slider (how old money is that?!) and the Southwestern wrap. The menu does include high end steaks running up to $37 or so. I would have ordered that. But was unable to find another $10 in my other pockets. read more
