This place has really gone downhill since our last visit. They don't have that great buffet anymore and they're still blaming it on COVID from 7 years ago!! The food portions were very small for the price, the waitress doesn't even come over to take your order or clean up anything. They expect the diners to clean up after themselves just as if you were at a crummy fast food restaurant! Then they couldn't keep two bills separated for the people in our little group. Well, needless to say, first time I didn't leave a tip. Oh, and not one food prep person was wearing a hair net, and all these young kids running around in the kitchen with long hair falling on food. Thank God only one person in our group ended up with a hair in her salad!! WILL NEVER BE BACK THERE AGAIN!!!! read more

Phil's has become one of our favorite chicken places. It is a bit of a drive for us but well worth the drive. If it were more centrally located we'd probably go there more. We were never big on the vinegar-based marinade and didn't actually care for the "Flagship" chicken, but the wings were great and we loved the buffet and found it worth the drive down from Cortland. The servers were always nice and attentive, and we liked the family atmosphere. Friends would usually be ready to join us at the drop of a hat, so we'd often have a carload on "wing night". The salad choices, the ribs and especially the huge, sweet strawberries they always had year-round were great. Since the pandemic and the elimination of the buffet we've saved the 90 mile round-trip and given it a pass, which is sad. We'd been Phil's fans since they had a location in Whitney Point. It's now a faint reminder of how great this place use to be. Back in the day when IBM ruled the Endicott/Vesta//Owego area this place rocked. THE best food anywhere. With IBM leaving the area and the pandemic, this place is not the same. Food was bland, decor dark and a bit depressing. Service and people still as nice as ever. We Love this place! It's run like a tight ship to sum it up! We are always greeted at the door with the most friendly young man that has a genuine smile that really makes the difference!! Best greeting anywhere we've ever been. And the waitresses and staff treat you with respect and kindness. One of them actually remembers exactly what we like to have every time! They have wonderful salad bar and buffet stations set up. Real wonderful selection. I seem to always get the half chicken with mashed potato dinner. The chicken has a really unique and wonderful seasoning that is truly delicious. My husband is a very big eater and is always very satisfied with the selection on the buffet. He loves the chicken soup there! This review is long overdue, we go there many Sundays and have never been disappointed. Truly highly recommend. read more

Okay I will start by saying if I was going to rate coleslaw and coleslaw only this would be a 10 out of 5. But I'm not I'm rating everything. The chicken although cooked in what I'd guess is the same Cornell Recipe that u can find and duplicate on line or eat at Brooke's Chicken. Always is overcooked and far dryer than it should be when professional prepared. The service is lazy and inattentive. The prices for standard fair are comparable. But what where they hit you w a standard often described as trick business practice is there pies. I believe they call them homemade or something of the sort and charge double to trip store prices but if you are ever fooled by the price and claim must equate to quality you will know it as soon as u try it. Their cherry pie was the WORST fruit pie I have ever eaten. It is obviously canned cherry filling based on the flavor and color that no maker of "homemade" pies would ever want to achieve even if it was possible without commercial preservatives. The crust was thick and dry and tasteless. So if u want a local version of old country buffet for lunch you found a nice match. If you want to stop in for a tub of coleslaw great. But in my humble opinion never order their pies... Also consider Googling Cornell Chicken Marinade and make ur own chicken I'd guess you would agree that tastes the same as their marinate and you can cook yours fresh and juicy straight off your grill w/ or w/o a rotisserie attachment. read more

We went there with my two teenage grandchildren and it was horrible We all got the box chicken the half chicken had no meat on it and looked like a chicken about 3 months old as we raise chickens the fries were cold and the Mac. and potatoe salads were horrible the best part was the rolls were the best part. The bill was well over $60.00 and none of us got a drink. I've been going to Phil's since I was a kid. Everyone here is very friendly and kind. The food is always hot, made to order delicious. The new menu is amazing. I would recommend the marinated chicken breast sandwich. Their Mac and cheese bowls are delicious with pulled pork. Highly recommend the bacon blue burger. Their classics are always amazing too. We always order from here when we go to visit my family in Endicott. It's quick, easy, and pretty inexpensive with many options. We ordered the 12 pc chicken, 10 mild wings, mashed potatoes with gravy, baked beans, and pumpkin pie. The chicken is to die for, it's so tender and seasoned perfectly, and not to mention they give you a pretty hefty amount. The wings were also delicious. They were so crispy and flavorful. The mashed potatoes are pretty average , but pair well with the gravy. The baked beans were some of my favorite. I love when they're sweet, and these hot the spot. The pie was also delicious, with a flaky crust and perfect amount of spice, it made for a tasty dessert. After having two events catered by Phil's we decided to come in and actually check out the restaurant, and I'm happy we did. We've been in a few times now for the buffet and not only is the selection really good but the service has been fantastic every time we've been there. Staff is fast and friendly and the food on the buffet is refilled / refreshed often. Definitely recommend the chicken and ribs. Phil's Chicken has been a constant in my family as long as I can remember. We took regular journeys to Phil's Chicken House from Syracuse to have the delicious and affordable fare. I now live in California and only visit central NY occasionally. On a recent visit, we all piled in the car for a trip to Phil's (followed by a take out stop at Brozetti Pizza .) The place is just tired. It desperately needs updating. I found myself wondering how clean the kitchen was. The chicken is wonderful... as it always is but the sides need some work. I recommend taking home some marinade which they sell by the bottle. If you like your coleslaw on the sweet side, also try their dressing. Its sweetened with pineapple. Overall, Phil's cornerstone recipes deliver but the rest of it needs work. read more

Over the years I have eaten many times at Phil's Chicken House. In fact, when it was still a small casual restaurant I used to live closer and went there often. It was fantastic back then! Like many restaurants that get bigger, they seem to lose their quality. We picked up their bucket of chicken with sides for dinner and added a pie for dessert. When we got home and took it out, we were so disappointed! Not enough food for three people....shoot it was not enough for one let alone 3! I guess I was thinking it would be like KFC with plenty for leftovers too. The chicken was cut up in tiny little pieces. Not good tasting at all. Terrible pie! I used to buy their pies for holidays they were so good back in the 1970's. I forgot to add that it was a very expensive mistake...way over priced! Ok, so I gave them another chance thinking that maybe they just did not do take out very well. So we met my FIL there for a Sunday dinner. We both got chicken and dumplings. What a mistake that was! Every time I eat food from here I get sick. We've tried to have them bring lunch for work functions multiple times now and every time the "catering" is sub par. I recently decided to head over to the restaurant to try a meal prepared freshly thinking that it may be a different experience but once again I was sick. Unfortunately, our waitress seemed to forget about us, but when you can get all the breakfast you want for two people for less than $10, you can't really be picky. Oh yeah, they sell chicken, too. This will be our first visit, my fiancé and I. Located next to a busy highway with moderate parking, we were seated promptly. Given two choices, menu or buffet, we decided to go with the buffet. The buffet consisted of basically all the menu options but you choose the portions and protein you want. Fish, ribs, chicken, and a seafood Alfredo. We are fresh to this restaurant and we got a bit of everything. Except the ribs. We didn't get the ribs. All in all, we got: chicken, fish, ziti, bread, pudding, salad from the salad bar, green beans, mashed potatoes and our drinks. I'll go through accordingly. The chicken? It was dry, over cooked and very salty. The fish wasn't anything spectacular. The ziti tasted like home made sauce but very acidic and over cooked noodles. The bread was just very generic store bought bread with lite whipped butter on the side. The pudding was alright, just pudding. The salad bar was decent but had limited options. The green beans I'm pretty sure were canned just reheated. The mashed potatoes were identical to box potatoes for the grocery store. Over all the meal seemed very forged and sadly... fake. It was very disappointing. But I write these to let other people know if they read before they buy. On the up side, at least you get free dessert if you get the buffet! But, in their words, "You have to eat it here!" So if you get the buffet, plan on having dessert. Dinner for two cost us $33.xx! read more

I am always craving Phil's Chicken.....ALWAYS....The chicken here is the best, THE BEST. You cannot get chicken this good anywhere else (okay maybe Brooks BBQ but even that's not as good imo) I go here for the buffet and always leave with a smile on my face and my belt unbuckled haha. The chicken is always falling off the bone and so moist and flavorful! I always stop here when in Binghamton, ALWAYS. The cream of broccoli soup is always fantastic and their other selections on the line are great. They should expand to a bigger building as the area for the buffet I wish was bigger but that doesn't deter me AT ALL. I only have 2 cons for this place, 1.) They're not in Ithaca and 2.) They do not deliver to my house in Ithaca. Seriously though get over here and try the chicken if you haven't, you haven't lived until you have! On a side note, the ribs have way too much sauce on them, should make your ribs without sauce and have it on the side or cut down. There is so much cross contamination at this place that it is a miracle that more people don't get sick!! This is information that I learned from a prior employee. They constantly reheat the same food over and over again. The buffet is just old reheated food. Yuck!!!! The chicken that this place is supposed to be famous for is dry and over cooked. The bf ordered chicken and biscuits which he liked but I loved. It just was not what he was looking for. Ahhhh, my first meal in my fiancé's hometown. Rotisserie chicken buffet? Oh hewls yes!!!! As with any buffet, be mindful if your plates. Sure you can start off with soup and salad with a few pieces of bread, but it's not called "Phil's Soup and Salad House" is it?!?! Chicken is crazy succulent and juicy. The white meat was just as soft and juicy as the dark (and I am a darky). Seasoned and marinated to perfection! Don't even get me started on the homemade biscuits. Still gooey in the middle like they should be. I'm pretty good at stopping when I am satisfied, but this was like thanksgiving! I was almost in my food coma.
