I am commenting on how difficult it is to make an appointment at this salon. I spent over an hour talking to the receptionist, the owner, and sending emails with pictures of my hair. I recently moved from NY and simply wanted to keep the same color and style I currently have. They kept trying to book me for additional services. They try to make you come in for a "consultation", even if you don't want to change anything. I am so frustrated by how difficult it is to make an appointment at this salon. I just gave up and will try another local salon with better reviews. They lost a client who would have came back every 5 weeks for a cut and color. read more

LOVE IT! Recently moved to the area, and desperately needed to find a hair salon. Emily did my hair, and it is perfect! The atmosphere is super chic, and really fun. Christina and Emily would bounce ideas off of each other, and make sure that I had the best combination for my treated hair. Emily updated my look, transformed my stressed tresses, and I walked out feeling like a million bucks. I've been to the big city salons, and I've been to Philosophe. I'm really not one for writing reviews, but Philosephe is SO deserving! It was a terrible week for my hair after 1 horrific color, followed by a bad color correction by another salon. I called Philosophe (who was recommended by a friend) in serious distress. Not only did they understand my situation, but they took me right away & said they wouldn't let me leave there hating my hair. Danica took her time to look at my hair, talk about what my end goal was and explained how she would get me there. Honestly, the talent is so real! I couldn't have had a better turnout. PHILOSOPHE is gem! A diamond in the ruff (pun intended) with a city vibe. Sophie is the salon's mascot and she is so cute and greets you as soon as you walk in. The service is exceptional and the staff is very knowledgeable. They don't just make you feel and look great but they also explain to you the best way to maintain your hair and which products to use. Neli is absolutely amazing. I came to her with my hair needing some serious TLC. Not only was my hair dyed red previously, it was very dry and damaged. She was extremely patient and very sweet and made the entire experience overall wonderful. She is also extremely talented in what she does. She brought my hair from red to a multi colored job that resembles a sunset. I would 100% highly recommend her to absolutely anyone and I cannot wait to go back and have her work her magic on my hair! She is very multi dimensional in not only that her work is amazing but she made my entire experience amazing. I can't say enough good things about Neli. I started going to Christina this summer to get my eyebrows threaded, and no joke she works miracles. My skin was burned the first time I waxed my eyebrows, so I've been left with a weird patch ever since. However, after a summer of consistent threading with Christina, it's starting to grow back! I really can't describe it any other way. Christina, the owner and master stylist, has created a place that takes you away from the world for a few hours. A carefully curated décor marrying vintage Paris with edgy mid-mod funk tickles all your senses as your eyes are being pulled around the space. While you are being serviced, you are offered delights such as tea in antique bone china teacups. I'll take it!There are magazines galore, but if you're more of a free-roaming techie, they've got iPads for you to search cuts, colors, trends or just keep you occupied while your color permeates. Even the bathroom is stunning, for real, I could hang out in there. Okay, and to the ultimate reason that I keep coming back to this place: Talent. I have tricky, fine hair and it's hard to create the illusion of fullness. Christina spends time getting to know you and your hair. I can spit out nonsensical sentence fragments of what I want (I think last time all I said was: Madewell Catalogue model... Whoops) but the artist in Christina is able to translate any ideas into something beautiful. She gives me beautiful cuts & colors and makes sure I know how to style it myself. I followed this salon from Norwood to Dedham and if they decide to relocate to Scandinavia, well I've always wanted a reason to wear wooden shoes. Great place, great staff! read more

I recently came in from out of state for a wedding and wanted to get my hair done. I had made an appointment early on because I wasn't sure how busy they would be but it was simple and easily done online. They sent me a reminder email and text a week before my appointment as well. The day of the wedding I found that I had less time to get ready than I had anticipated and they were able to take me early with no issue. The staff are super friendly and welcoming and the service was great. My hair looked fantastic and it held up all night. I'm *so* happy I found this place. I moved to Dedham about 1.5 years ago, but was still traveling to downtown Boston to go to my fav spot. That was becoming less and less realistic. On a whim (and bc of good reviews) I gave this place a shot. Nelly gave an amazing wash and great cut. Was super impressed with how well she knew her products, and was happy with their selection. (I'm not a product-head, but also don't like chemical laden stuff. They had a variety of options at different price points for me to try.) While getting my relatively basic cut (which is exactly what I asked for), I watched Christina give an amazing cut to a gentleman a few seats over... a head turning cut if you saw this guy on the streets. I will definitely make this my regular spot. Maybe next time I'll even be more adventurous. read more

I have never been so disappointed in a beauty experience before. I went in May for my prom hair and make-up, and had to hold back the tears as I looked at myself in the mirror. Christina disregarded all of my wants and needs. This was supposed to be my night, yet I spent the majority of it crying because of the way I looked. Emily did my makeup, and also disregarded my wants. Although this was several months ago, it still bothers to me to this day. It pains me to see 5 star reviews when Philosophe simply does not deserve it. I was also overcharged as I checked the prices online, yet was charged more at the register. I am allergic to dogs, yet no even took my health into consideration. Once again, I want to emphasize the sadness and pain I experienced. My prom night was ruined. I spent $135 to have to redo my hair and makeup several times. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!! read more

I got my hair done last week at philosophe and I am so pleased with the experience! Not only is the salon adorable, the staff was so cool and pleasant to be around. I loved the decor and enjoyed sipping on the green tea while I read a magazine on one of the nooks they had on their table. The color they used on my hair was amazing - I went darker and the brown they used was so rich. The cut is exactly what I wanted. Stopped in to have Neli shape my eyebrows with eyebrow threading. She is delightful, warm, and very attentive and precise. Shestopped to let me take a look before she finished, so I had a chance to make any comments or requests before she finished, and she was more than willing to back in one hair at a time to make it perfect, and to avoid taking too much off one area. My brows are a bit sparse in some spots and fuller in others, and they've gotten harder to grow out and fill in as I've gotten older (ugh, middle age!) so I put off getting my brows done as I am always worried that someone threading them in a hurry or too aggressive would make them look uneven, harsh, or over-plucked. After starting from a not-great looking set of brows which had been long left on their own, I ended up with great brows, and a natural-looking, soft but elegant, arch. Neli was very observant about where my brows were thicker and where they were thinner, since it started out different on my left vs. right brow so she helped balance them without thinning them out or making any bald spots or harsh angles. Her technique was gentle and careful. I did not have any red skin or pain. She was careful at every step to make sure that I got what I wanted and that it looked pretty and symmetrical. I liked her attention to detail and that I wasn't whisked through there in a hurry (like I've had done at some threading-only shops) even though she was fully booked for the day with hair appointments. The salon itself was small and quirky, it reminded me of little shops in Soho in NYC. The receptionist was friendly. There is plenty of street parking (unmetered). It's in a residential and small village-ish neighborhood of Dedham with a few other small shops, not the big crowded commercial strip but convenient to get to that part of Dedham also, it took me 15 minutes from Needham. Overall it was a good experience. If I can't get in to my regular hair stylist, I would also likely try this salon. read more

Absolutely wonderful service, welcoming atmosphere, and great results! I am very nervous about trying new places for hair and eyebrows b/c of how many bad experiences I've had over the years. I am also a NYC transplant and have high expectations (admittedly so) when it comes to my salon experience. I am very happy I gave this place a chance. I started out with eyebrows; even though I was somewhat hesitant b/c I haven't had my brows threaded in over 10 yrs. Christine, the owner, does them herself and she is fantastic. She pays attention to what I like, don't like, and my gripes with my shape. She worked her magic and gives very honest feedback about how to achieve the best frame for my face. My brows have grown in wonderfully and have nestled in nicely. I had a bayalage done with Danica; she was not only incredibly personable and approachable (didn't have that air of arrogance I feel like so many stylists have). She took time to really understand what I was looking for, had pictures to help narrow colors down, and best of all, she didn't take forever! I have had many styles over the years and I have always needed to set 3-4 hours at the salon to the side b/c stylists would take forever in doing my hair (I do not have long hair), or they would start new clients in between my color setting without really taking time into consideration. In the end I was really happy with my color and cut and was out of there in less than 2 hours. I will definitely be coming back for coloring as well as my usual brow routine. Oh, and the shop pupper mascot isn't a bad perk either! read more
