From Philly and just love this place. Cold doughy pretzels is where it's at. The platters with dip are great for parties.

Can't believe we've lived in Merrick for nearly 8 years and haven't once been here. What held our…read morefeet to the fire was the unfortunate news that they're closing in early January 2026. Anyway, we're glad we got in here for an early bird dinner with our three kiddos (and no wait either!) I have to say the wurst platter and jagerschnitzel entrees were both solid, and we added in a tasty bowl of flavorful French onion soup, huge Bavarian pretzel and a couple of potato pancakes to the mix. Service and ambiance was cozy and friendly, and they were nicely decorated for Christmas too. Even though we only went once, thank you for being a staple in our community for 40+ years!

Food and service did not disappoint and the restaurant was well-decorated for Christmas too :) Yes, meals are a bit on the pricier side but portions are generous and (as someone who LOVES German food), I have to say the jagerschnitzel and sauerbraten were spot on! We started off with the obligatory Bavarian pretzel, which is cooked to order and easy to share around for a family of four. We also ordered a bowl of their onion soup which had a surprisingly flavorful broth and was delicious down to the very last scoop. It was a nice departure from some variants where once you pierce through the top cheese layer, you're eating boring beef broth. I wish the family well (believe they're retiring and trying to sell the business) and maybe keep my fingers crossed new owners will keep up the German cuisine!

My wife, our young daughter, and I were hungry and decided to give the restaurant another try. We love German food and had eaten here once before. Although the food was mediocre on our previous visit, we were willing to give it a second chance. Unfortunately, we never even made it to our table. Upon entering, the first question from the host was whether we had a reservation. We did not, but given that it was mid-afternoon on a Sunday and there appeared to be plenty of empty tables and booths, we didn't think that would be an issue. The host informed us that there was one table available and began leading us toward it. Since we had our young daughter with us, we politely asked whether we could sit in one of the empty booths instead. The response was stern and dismissive: "That's for reservations." Our menus were then dropped on the table, and the host walked away. We completely understand that restaurants may reserve certain tables or booths for guests with reservations. That wasn't the problem. It was the unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming manner in which we were treated. A simple, courteous explanation would have been perfectly acceptable. Instead, we felt as though our presence was an inconvenience. We were so put off by the interaction that we turned around and left before even sitting down. It's unfortunate because we genuinely enjoy German cuisine and wanted to give this local restaurant another opportunity. Hospitality matters just as much as the food, and today's experience left us with no desire to return.
