Been here several times and have enjoyed the subs. The only thing that turns me off is if you pay by credit card, they shove a computer pad in your face and ask you to select a tip.....15, 18, 20% or no tip. I always select no tip and then put a buck or two in the tip jar that they have prominently displayed on the counter. They don't serve you. You have to go up and get your own order. Ordered a kids hot dog meal for my date & a cheese steak for me only to find out it was Monday's BOGO special! SCORE! They called our name & delivered our meal to the table. Within seconds, David appeared with ketchup for both of us...when I realized that I needed a knife to slice the hot dogs, again David was there, this time with a knife; anticipated my needs before I did!!! When we were finished, the gal at the front gave us the ices that came w/the kids meal! 2 mini hot dogs, fries, beverage, & dessert...what a value for $6.49! Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon I felt that this restaurant is clean, the employees are friendly, the food was excellent. they even have craft beers in addition to a huge menu of other drinks. The restaurant is decorated nicely with Philadelphia memorabilia. Plenty of things to get a conversation started with your dining partners or maybe even a complete stranger, because I found that the other customers were really nice as well. Yes it does take a moment for them to get your order ready because they make it to order. So be patient you will not be disappointed. They toast the buns some people aren't used to this but I think it's great. If you have questions about how you like your Philly cheesesteak ask before you order. No cheese whiz, get over it. This is not what I call a philly cheese steak. They put some kind of cheese sauce on this, bread was dry and it was greasy.

At its best, a Philly cheese steak is greasy, sloppy, and bready. Presumably, I have had the best in Philadelphia at Geno;s and Pat's. . I was not impressed by those, and not impressed by the one I had today at the Philly Grill. The menu claims a 10 inch sandwich, but the actual sandwich was more like 8 inches. In and of itself, not too bad, because I am certain that the amount of filling is the same no matter the size of the roll. The sandwich was, as expected, greasy, sloppy and bready. Let me also add in pricey. With tax, and before tip, my lunch special cost $11.61. I could have eaten at a nicer restaurant, and been served for a comparable price. Not everything was bad. The fries were quite good. Philly Grill serves no-name, generic soda. For the prices charged, I don't think a brand-name soda would have caused the owners to lose money. Probably, I am not a cheese steak person. Philly Grill did nothing to change my opinion. read more

The rolls are a frozen budget product that is allowed to sit on a table for ??? long. Stale and dry. The steak was a frozen proportioned serving that is bought, according to the manager/owner, because it is cheaply priced. Both the peppers and mushrooms came out of a #10 can. The cheese was also from a commercial can and tasteless. As someone who had been in the restaurant-catering-concession business for 30 years, I can honestly say that this was the worst excuse for a Philly Steak sandwich ever experienced. read more

This is a pretty good spot. Legit Amoroso's rolls (which any self-respecting Philly boy knows makes it) and good food. Limited selection for hoagies but the place is clean, staff is nice. A good place that's nicer than some of the Philly spots I grew up with but it's fresh, good and not priced like Palm Beach. Don't judge based on "authenticity" as, even in Philly, people have their own ways but it's a nice nod to some of the traditions and the quality is exactly what you'd hope for. read more
