If you want lots of shoes to pick from, and you are not looking for a lowered/sale price, then this store in the South Windermere Center on Folly Road is for you. Yes, my wife wanted a pair of tan shoes, but did not buy them here, largely due to their lack of good selection in a woman's style and of course the price. She originally had gone in here telling that the ON Cloud walking/jogging shoes were also available here. They were, but the price was more expensive than those at a Freshfields shopping area store near expensive Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island. Will I go back? Most probably not. I walked in to Phillips shoes hoping to buy a suede brush and eraser to clean a drop off something off of my new suede shoes while I was out and about and didn't have time to stop home. Phillips is a high end shoe store located in West Ashley. It has Toms, Naot, Sperry, Vionic, Dansko, Brooks, Olukai and Birkenstocks. The prices typically range from 50-150 a pair. I lucked out and came during a super sale with shoes marked off at seventy-five percent discounts. At checkout, I presented my email and ID as it required and the clerk asked the older woman on the end, Tricia I think her tag said, how to enter this. Tricia said loudly "No Double Dipping!" I felt embarrassed and humiliated in front of the 4 customers waiting behind me to check out. i was not asking to take unfair advantage, just trying to redeem the discount they sent to me. Decent brands of shoes for every genre. PISS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. It's extremely rude to follow around your customers (especially people of color,) and give off uncomfortable stares during the shopping experience. Tried on a pair of UGGS and the sales rep would not back off. As I finished trying on the boots and placed them back in the box, the same sales rep charges towards me and says, "oh, the box goes back over there." keep in kind that I had the box in my hand to continue shopping, so I unpleasantly responded, "Ma'am I am purchasing these, please just back off already." Although I purchased the shoes that day, I HIGHLY doubt that that I will never patronize this store again. read more

Phillips Shoes has great brands, but they are limited in their extended sizes. They did not have many women's 9.5-sized shoes (just 9s and 10s), and I could hardly find any wide-width shoes. They have good sales/discounts, but not for my shoe size. read more

Here's the thing, I hate shopping. It is exhausting trying things on and shoes are no exception. Now I try to get in and out as quickly as possible. I mind my business and keep my head low to not engage with people. The associates did ignore me, which is fine. What isn't fine is watching the sales lady take the empty box by my stuff and two other boxes of shoes and put the empty one away. Um, okay. I was a shelf down walking in shoes considering purchase. I ended up buying four pairs of shoes with two Olukai flops. I mean one can ever have enough pairs of Olukais. I approached the cold counter with the women seemingly bothered I was buying shoes. Again, not here to be flattered with chit chat. But the last straw was the woman asked me if I needed a bag... No, I want to carry four boxes of shoes and some flops across the lot where I parked. Good grief! I may not be your ideal customer in appearance, but when spends a good amount of money, at least have the common curtesy to bag their shoes. No smile needed. Do these women get off on being so rude? Making people feel insignificant is not good business. I give 3 stars for the choice in shoes and that is it. Let me tell you about Wayne, he's amazing and so helpful. I walked in about 45 minutes before closing and he helped me find what I was looking for. I gave him very little to go off of and I found not one, but two pair of shoes! I am thrilled with my purchase. I can't wait to go back and shop with Wayne. I found that the prices are fair and consistent with what I've found online while browsing. And I was pleased with the large selection of shoes to choose from, even for someone with wide feet. I went in the Folley Rd location to buy ON shoes for the family because of all the good reviews I had heard about the shoes. As I walked in the door an older lady about 60-70 with blond hair and glasses and a little taller, basically verbally assaulted me saying "Mask, Mask, you have to wear a mask" instead of kindly reminding me to wear my mask. No I don't believe in the mask but I always carry one for those occasions when it is required, I had just forgotten here and was rudely attacked/bullied by this very sad and angry lady. I went on in and the four of us tried on shoes and made sure of the size we needed then left. We went 4 doors down to Half Moon Outfitters and bought 3 pairs of ON shoes ( they didn't have the 4th size) even though they were over $10 more per pair. This lady caused the store to lose over $450 in business. I bet this location, which apparently has been in business a long while, goes out of business in just a short time if they continue with this type of employee. They need to remove her and if she is family, then again, remove her, she is a deal breaker. Now, the other store location in Mt. Pleasant, we went in there the day before (we were there on a 4 day getaway) to buy shoes for my boys and the little brown headed lady in there was so, so sweet and extremely knowledgeable about all of her shoes. She was probably 65 and very nice and helpful. She is actually the one that sent us to the witch's door to buy the ON shoes because she said they had a bigger selection. read more

There are four locations of this shoe store, this review is for this one on Folly Road. My goodness this store has been at this location since i had hair! Very clean, and well laid out. They do have a bit of everything that you may want. The staff is super friendly and are always there if you need help. But they dont stalk you around the store if you're just looking. The prices vary on what type of shoe you're looking for. However they do seem to have some good deals..overall it's a shoe store with a long history of serving the area. So go on by and see if they can help you! Also for you runners they do have a good selection for you, I ran once and didnt like it! read more

They are often lurking in the aisles looking for any opportunity to get a sale. I have been shopping here since I moved to Charleston at the Mt Pleasant and King St stores. I have major foot problems and they always have shoes that are perfect for me. I bought my latest pair of running shoes at the Folly Rd store. I had called them to hold them for me as I was in a hurry and flying out early the next day for a race at Disney. While it was my fault I did not open the box, I read the side of it and checked for the right model and headed home. When I got home and opened the box, it was a pair of Brooks but not the intended pair. There was also a receipt for the shoes with someone else's credit card information telling me they had been previously returned. I immediately called the store and they said to bring them back. I informed them I would be leaving and out of town until the next weekend. Because my current shoes were worn out; I had to buy news ones in Florida. When I returned home, I went into the store and was greeted by a store clerk. She was very nice and returned the shoes. However, an older associate came to the desk and questioned me about the shoes. I told her the story and walked away. I stopped in the front aisle of the store to look at some boots when I heard the clerks talking about me. One implied that I had switched out the shoes myself. It was the most unprofessional customer service I have ever witnessed. It was embarrassing to think that I would do something like that. In lieu of saying something to them, I walked out as to not make a scene. I will never step foot in that store again. I wanted to buy the 120.00 shoes from a local store, instead of the big box store I ended up getting them from. It's a shame they lost my business as I spend a lot of money on shoes and have referred a lot of people there. read more

Running Shoes. I went here after checking the New Balance website for local Charleston stores that carry. South Windmere Center (80 Folly Rd) is located just down the road so I chose here to start. Great selection of Brooks, Merrell, and New Balance. Asics and Adiddas, too, but those I can't speak to in depth. Phillips had the newest Merrell models and several new Brooks and NB models including the NB Minimus. Plenty of sizes of each as well. I knew what style I wanted, so it was pretty much color and look selection - the customer service is great, but don't expect much in the way of indepth running shoe information. But for the average jogger, or the experienced runner just looking for a local carrier/good price, they'll do just fine. There were several employees, plenty enough to help everyone in the store. I had great and knowledgeable service when I had taken a trip there. The ladies that helped me were an amazing team! Although you could clearly tell they work off commision...but on the other hand, so friendly and helpful. I was even able to walk out with a couple pairs of shoes under $200 because of a sale. They have a great selection of shoes. I went in for some mary janes and work shoes. Walked out with a pair of Merrills for only $30 (Original price $120.) and Dansko for $140! What an awesome sale! Convenience: Couldn't find the exact shoes I wanted. Before I was able to find in their store exactly what I wanted they were willing to check other locations for me to find the shoes I was looking for. Great selection of shoes but the "help" is non-existent. The sales people ask if you need help, and then do nothing to help you. This is truly a "self-service" shoe store. The only person I've ever found helpful there was Debbie...she also seemed to know what shoes would or wouldn't work on my feet. My most recent experience was horrific. I was told that the store would be closing, so I suggested that if the salesperson helped me, I could go much faster. When I mentioned that I thought the shoe was too short, the salesperson didn't even touch my toe...just eye-balled it. These people know NOTHING about fitting shoes. There were shoes that could have worked, but the salesperson no where to be found to offer a pad to make it tighter, etc. There are others who do jump you as you come in the door...and one seemed terribly hung-over. I have bought $150 shoes that really didn't fit. Too bad they're the only game in town for a big selection. read more

This is a Charleston institution. Many generations have grown up coming here, including me. They do it the old fashioned way here, which is provide attentive customer service. It may seem awkward at first, but that's how they used to do it down here for a long time. Horrible! I was leaving for a trip and went to the West Ashley location to buy a pair of shoes the afternoon before I left. When I started packing I opened the shoe box and they had given me the wrong pair of shoes! I flew back to the store, calling all location as I drove. No one answers the phone and when I got to the store 5 min after closing the lights were off and everyone was gone. When I returned from my trip I went back to the store to return the incorrect shoes that I had been given. The manager politely blamed me for the mistake, and criticized me for the rude voicemail that I left. I will never set foot in that store again. read more

I was in twice in the last week to look for shoes @ Phillips and the sales people were all quite nice, not pushy at all. I did not feel pushed at all or hovered over like some of the previous reviews stated. They have an amazing selection of well made, quality shoes! The only bad thing I can say is that the first time I went in I had them hold a pair of shoes til closing the next day. When I returned the next day 3 hrs prior to closing, they had already put them back on the shelf. Luckily for them the shoes were still on the shelf! I love me some funky and comfortable shoes. The store's only good quality is the huge selection. Now, the bad qualities that irked me so much I wrote a review. Their big selection is somewhat overpriced and disorganized. You'll find the same shoe but different colors located far apart. Why? It makes me think you need to rely on a salesperson if not your own persistence. The salespeople are overly attentive and quite competitive. With all of them together at the counter, gossiping is also very unprofessional. When I bought some boots they failed to provide me with a receipt due to a broken machine ( I overheard this while shopping) and it was too late to go back in the day when I realized there wasn't one in the bag. When I called to ask if they could email it to me they couldn't look up my purchase despite providing them with the codes. There's no excuse, they're simply incompetent or not up to date on tech. So I drove back to store and when they printed it out they didn't even have the decency to apologize for the inconvenience. If I dare step into their store again, I'll be trying it on and purchasing it elsewhere/online. read more

I really hate to leave a bad review on a local Charleston company, but it needs to be said. I bought a pair of sandals 3 months ago here ($160) and did not have a good experience. The entire time I was in the store I felt like 2 sales associates were vultures. There is no better person than myself to know what I want. I do not need any help or suggestions. Sadly, due to my bad experience I have decided to purchase 2 other pairs of shoes online at Nordstrom's and Zappo's, not that Phillip Shoes. The selection is OK, but is not as good at it has been. They did not have any Rockport shoes which is what my boyfriend wanted the last time he was in. I feel guilty not supporting a local company, but every time I have been in there they are pushy.
