Avelli Construction and Manufacturing Corporation, Ambridge, PA entered into a contract with my…read morefamily to provide 90-feet of concrete for a driveway with a widening of the driveway from 25 feet to 32 feet at the road and installation of a 4" PVC pipe under the cement pathway to the side steps for electrical and irrigation lines. Avelli poured the driveway but did not widened the driveway to 32 feet or installed the PVC pipe under the sidewalk to the steps. They are in breach of contract. There were only 2 components to the contract besides pouring the driveway. Since then I have requested that they do the following: 1) Install the PVC pipe and fix the landscaping that has been done since the driveway installation. 2) Rip up the driveway entrance at the road on the right (if facing the house) and expand the driveway at the curb to 32 feet. Repair the landscaping that has since been installed because they did not do it correctly the first time. We paid Avelli $22,975 in good faith. They have made multiple excuses and refused to fix the problem. Do not use this unethical company.

The prices have gone up noticeably, and the workmanship and followthrough aren't as good as they used to be. I have two of my most recent projects in mind when I say this, I being especially disappointed with the last which was very expensive. If you're considering concrete work, I would strongly recommend getting several bids and references first.

Finding a good mason takes time and you also need the patience when they are in high demand. Such…read moreis the case with my experience with DiMarco masonry. I was in dire need of pointing for my home and also to address water issues coming off my solid cement staircase. Jim DiMarco came to my home late last year and went over what could be done to help me. He recommended putting in a metal drain below the "lip" of the staircase to reduce run off. When it comes to pointing, the business just doesn't fill in the gaps. Instead they dig out the old cement and insure fresh cement to insure a solid seal. Such was the plan given to me last fall and reflected on my estimate. At that time I was told my project would be done sometime this year. DiMarco masonry called me a day ahead of time to let me know what day and time they would be out and he and his assistant arrived promptly at the scheduled time. I checked in on the work here and there and saw that the work was very thorough and they cleaned up appropriately. Jim DiMarco showed me the metal lip he placed on my concrete block and hopefully it should keep excess water from running down my staircase and onto my newly finished bricks. If I had an issue at any time I was free to call him. I was very pleased with his services and am glad I could find a mason to do a quality job. This business is much in demand at the current time so if you are willing to wait on your project then I highly recommend their services.

We wanted to close a door to a small porch off the master bedroom and our contractor sealed it with drywall and tarp, but we needed a mason to match the brick and brick it in. Our house in Mt Lebanon is 96 years old and the brick is unique. I called Jim Dimarco and he came over that SAME DAY (!) to look at the house and the next day it wasn't freezing (they cannot mix cement needed for masonry if below freezing temps) his crew came over and finished the job. The brick he found was perfect and now you could never tell there ever had been a doorway originally - the work was that good. Plus he's a super nice guy - as was his crew. Could not be happier - would never use anyone else. Thanks Jim!

I had previously used Morningstar for a front entrance and steps, and they did an absolutely amazing job, so I contacted them again. Kerry came out and talked to me twice about my project. My property is a hill, basically, which added challenges to the job. After demolition of the old firepit, and excavation of the site, I got a retaining wall that is absolutely a work of art, a beautiful patio and a firepit that rivals anything I've ever seen for workmanship and beauty, and a walkway that is unbelievable! The weather did not cooperate for many days, but once they were able to pour concrete, they got right on it. They created a circular patio against a retaining wall of graduated height, measuring 4' in the middle. Then, they added a template design, having to work suspended above the concrete! The results are just beautiful! I wanted a larger than usual firepit, as I have a wooded lot, and burn a lot of twigs and debris from the trees, but wanted something that would be an attractive firepit for get togethers. They absolutely came through for me, I love the firepit that they designed! The walkway that they laid out is curved, and looks like a path in the woods. They finished it beautifully, with a pattern that looks like stone. Their pricing is competitive, and the quality is well worth it. They are reliable, and very focused on doing a spectacular job. They also make sure to leave the jobsite clean and in great shape, straightening out the landscape beautifully. I am over the moon with my new patio, firepit and walkway. Once again, a spectacular, quality job.

They blamed their supplier, JJ Kennedy, who they said sold them a bad batch of concrete. Every time it freezes the concrete crumbles, and gets worse! Plus, Kim (Kerry's wife) told me that this has happened on Multiple Jobs - not just mine! It shouldn't be my problem - it's Morningstar's problem. I tried to address this with them before posting any reviews. I repeatedly called and email them to try to get this resolved. They kept ignoring me and I had to keep contacting them again and again. Finally Kerry promised IN A WRITTEN AGREEMENT to come back to my house and replace the crumbling concrete before 2025 was over -- but 2025 came and went and Kerry was full of excuses on why he couldn't do what he originally promised to do. Kerry did not honor his word. If you are reading this - I WOULD STEER CLEAR
