An old friend of mine from school has been a worker at this deck company for years, and their decks look really nice in photos, so I reached out to the owner to get an estimate for my new deck. On September 9, I called Aaron to set up an estimate for 1 PM on September 14. He did not show up, so I contacted him. He said that he had a family funeral and would be at my house in the evening. Aaron arrived at my house, and he mentioned some really great ideas for my new deck, such as making the deck one level with a step near a patio door and adding an ADA-compliant handrail. He would not give me his estimate until I told him what another company's estimate was. He then said that he would match that estimate. Aaron said that he works a little with the Trex brand of decking and mostly with the TimberTech brand. Over the next several days, I visited TimberTech's website (I was already familiar with Trex), and I ordered samples of deck boards and handrail, so I could familiarize myself with the quality, styles, and colors. The TimberTech products seemed to be good, so on October 2, I texted and called Aaron about my chosen styles and colors of products, said that I was ready to sign a contract with him, and asked him to send me a written estimate. I reached out to him again on October 5 and 9, and he did not reply, although I saw a "Read" receipt next to my text messages. He never sent me a written estimate. On October 13, I communicated Aaron's ideas to a different deck company and hired them to do the work. I could not hire Extreme Decks because they infrequently communicated and did not send a written estimate, which is something that I have heard from other potential customers as well. Overall, I encourage people to contact this company for estimates and ideas, but do not be surprised if communication is slow. read more

If I could give them a 0 rating, I would. Some of the negative reviews I have read about this company were spot on. Several of us were spoon fed excuse after excuse and we foolishly believed them. Don't be lured in by some of the great reviews, everyone has friends. There are contractors out there who are honest and really care about your time. Aaron can fast talk with the best of them. If zero stars were an option...I'd choose that. Back in early March, I reached out to Aaron based off of a referral. He came out the next day, worked through some ideas with me, and gave me a quote. He said the job would be completed in May. Off the bat, I liked him. Good ideas, price was right, and seemed very nice. So...I was wrong. There was no contract ever provided. I reached out countless times via phone and text. Always a voicemail, and unanswered (but read) texts. Every once and a while, I'd get a call or a text back from his office manager with some excuses as to why he hadn't started. And that "we've never had a contract" for any of the jobs he's ever done. However...misery loves company, and I can see that this is the norm for him. Stay away. I've since hired a new company and am looking forward to finally getting my deck replaced. read more

Really wish I could give them zero stars. Extreme decks was referred to us. We reached out and Aaron came to look at the house in December 2021 for the deck, fence, and door, gave us a quote. We were told by him that he would have us started sometime in April. April rolled around hadn't heard from him so I called him. Told me 4-6 weeks out due to running behind. Completely understandable told him I would reach out in 6 weeks. We talked. Said he was still 3-4 weeks away was very apologetic that he was behind and that the job he was on they wanted more done than he was ready for. I get it. You have to finish the job. 3-4 weeks come and go I heard nothing. Talked to him again. At this point he said 1-2 weeks away I'm on his to do list on his deck and he should be here. Great! I called him a week later Just to check in and make sure we were good to go because we were ordering the fence for him and he was installing it. He told me order it. We did. At this point he also had never asked me for my land survey I sent it to him immediately for drawing. After this he went silent on us. Deck, fence, and door to be installed in April And he would read my texts and not respond. I completely understand jobs can take longer than expected but if you don't want the job at least tell us. We were at this point scrambling to find someone to do the job and we finally found Gent construction who did a Fantastic job. Please if you are smart do not give extreme decks your money or time. You will never end up with a deck or fence honestly you'll just end up being left on read hoping one day he shows up to do your job. read more

Aaron provided us with a quote and great ideas for a deck roof. We scheduled the job for late March with the possibility that due to work load it could be April. It is now July and we are still without a roof. I have reached out to him numerous times with responses that he had 2 jobs and thought we would be next, to as quickly as possible, to we're in the jobs coming up next, to it shouldn't be much longer, to "chugging along heading in your direction". We are now looking for a contractor who will actually show up and do the work. read more

Redoing our review. Had a deck built a year ago and was told by Adam we did NOT need a permit. We clearly needed a permit for the deck they built. We now have a cloud on our title and the time, frustration and money we have and will continue to spend to resolve this situation is unbelievable. Aaron came to our house 5 weeks ago and gave us an estimate to replace the decking and three joists on an existing wooden deck. Like a previous reviewer noted, because of the small size of the job, it was going to be a "weekend project" and he'd let us know when. I called Aaron two weeks ago about getting some composite decking instead of wood. He was going to call me back the next day with information. Crickets. I've called and left voicemails and followed up with a text. Nothing. It's now July 11, mid-summer, my deck is a mess and I have to start over. My hope is we can find someone before the snow falls. Aaron did not follow-through, was not conscientious, nor professional. I urge you to look elsewhere for help with your deck project. read more

I could not be happier with the permanent roof that was built over my deck by the guys at Extreme decks. The job was completed quickly and the results were better than I expected. The guys went out of their way to work with the inspector and meet the stringent expectations for our township. They even helped us out with some extras we asked for including putting up an outdoor tv and building a large wooden gate to match our deck in order to keep our toddler contained. Unlike other contractors we have used, I would highly recommend Extreme decks for all of your outdoor living space needs. read more

We invited Extreme Decks to give us an estimate on rebuilding the wooden part of our front stoop. Given the historical nature of the existing structure, we explained that we wanted them to remove and replace only the rotted support posts and to leave a decorative upper portion in place. Several weeks later the team chose to work on this project when I could not be at home. That was great because it got the project done faster. However, due to poor communication amongst the team, much that should have stayed in place was removed. After several phone calls, they came out the next day to reinstall the upper portion. I put a check in the mail to them the next day, as soon as we had seen the finished stoop. The final result was still not exactly what I had requested, but I was satisfied with this outcome until several weeks later when owner Aaron Karas contacted me to say that he had not received our check. I told him that it had been mailed and he said that he would check another location where it could have been put. I asked him to let me know right away if that did not resolve the issue. More than a week later Aaron called to say that he had not located the check. He wanted to pick up cash the next day. I told him that this was not possible, but that I would cancel the original check and get him a new one right away. This caused him to raise his voice and to use a tone that made me feel unsafe. He made several points: -That this was a cash job to begin with (It was not. For safety reasons, I never hire contractors who require cash.) -That all of this could have been avoided if I had just left the cash on our stoop for him on the day the work was done, as allegedly requested (I think it's likely that had I done that, the original incorrect work would never have been corrected.) -That I was giving him the "run around" by not agreeing to have him stop by my workplace the next day to retrieve a cash payment I do realize that it may have seemed to him that we did not intend to pay him and that the time that had passed could have made it feel urgent to him. However, I cannot recommend a contractor who has made his customer feel threatened. read more

Extreme Decks has done a lot of work on my house over the last couple years. He and his workers are usually very prompt and they do good work! If there is any problem they bend over backwards to help make you happy. I had no issues but a fried of mine needed to tweak a few things on their covered porch which really added a lot of curb appeal to their home! My house had a new roof put on less than a week after contacting him! He had the time and did an excellent job. I broke down my rear deck into two jobs. The one was to take down my original deck and recycle as much material as possible and he raised it about a foot and added an additional 10' and finally we added a section to the deck that has a 8X15 shed. I use a wheelchair and the modifications allow me to enter and exit the deck from the kitchen and the shed with no assistance His modifications have greatly added to my quality of life and independence. I highly recommend Aaron from Extreme Decks and his workers. If I need additional work I will contact him first. Sometimes it takes a little work to get on the schedule, that is because he does good work and his services are always in demand. It is worth the wait if you can work with him. David read more
