This was my first time using Phillips, my company brings some of their vehicles over to them for inspection and thought I would give them a try. I brought my car here on Monday (8/1) due to a noise that it was making on the left drivers side. Drop off was a bit confusing as the front door was open but there wasn't anyone at the desk and I waited for about 5 minutes or so and had to walk around to find someone. A gentleman came from the shop area to help. He was pleasant and took my information and promised to give me a call with the diagnoses. I had informed him that it was my only vehicle and that I would need it back ASAP to be able to get home, he assured me that I would hear from someone that morning. I heard back from them at 11:57AM and they let me know that the strut mount and ball joint on the left side were broken and needed to be replaced. She quoted me a price of $350.00 for each and told me that it wouldn't be any higher than $700.00. They didn't have the strut mount in stock for my car and they would have to order it and it would arrive the following morning. I agreed to these repairs and we both hung up. Tuesday morning came and about 11AM I called over to see if the part arrived and to discuss how we were going to handle the payment. The owner indicated that yes the parts arrived and that they would be working on my car that afternoon and it should be completed. I said okay and thought everything was fine. By 4PM I had started to call them to find out the status of my car as I was getting ready to leave work to come over and wanted to be sure that it was completed. After about 1/2 hour I got a call back and was told that it was done and they "just had to get the paperwork completed". I said okay not a problem and asked what the total was and was told "once the paperwork together we can let you know when you arrive". I made my way over to them about 10 minutes later. Once I arrived a gentleman asked me to have a seat they were just finalizing the paperwork. After another 10 minutes a female walked in and we said hello and I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes the female asked me to come up to the desk she was ready for me (at this point I realized it was the owner), I came up to the desk at which time she handed me a bill for $1,041.53 which was significantly more than the approx. $700.00 which she quoted me. She then proceeded to tell me it was because they replaced the right side strut mount as well due to it being a "safety issue" and would not pass inspection. While I understood the safety issue and it not passing inspection that was NOT what my car was there for. It was there for the noise on the left hand side of my car. When I asked why repairs were done that I had NOT authorized I was told that the mechanic felt since it was a "safety" issue and the owner wasn't around to call me that he would just replace them. When I pointed out that this was unacceptable the owner proceeded to tell me that it wouldn't pass inspection (yes my inspection was due) and that it was a safety issue. While I told her I understood all that my issue was WHY DIDN'T ANYONE CALL ME TO GET AUTHORIZATION. More than likely I would have approved it, however, NO ONE called me. It wasn't like they gave me a discount on the price either. It was the same amount to replace the left side (including labor) as it was the right side. I was then "forced" into an agreement to pay the difference by the end of the month, however, I didn't agree with this, however, they were holding my keys hostage and I had no way to get home and felt I had no choice. I understand mistakes happen, but I didn't authorize this work and I can't verify if in fact the mount was bad as they didn't show me the part etc. There was no issue with the right side when I brought it in and believe that I was taken complete advantage of. read more

I hate writing this because I used Phillips for several years and was happy with their service, that is until last week. Called Monday to arrange to get an oil change, tire rotation, and check out a warning light that had come on. I stressed that I could bring it in any day but it had to be a day they could do it in the morning so it would be done by the time I got out of work. "No Problem, we can do that... bring it in tomorrow." So I did, dropped it off before they opened, left the key and a note in the key drop, and headed to work. I came back in the afternoon and the car was still parked in the same spot... sure enough, they had not touched it. And to be clear, not only had they not touched it, they didn't even know it was there as they retrieved my key from the drop box while I was standing there. I realize mistakes happen and had I gotten an apology or some attempt to make it right it would be fine but I got neither. At first I got excuses and almost an insinuation that it was my mistake, "what time did you drop the keys off?" and "maybe they got stuck when you put them in". No, they just never looked which they finally admitted when I kept pushing. I even asked why when I had just made the appt. the day before would they not wonder and call when I did not show up. I was told "lots of people make appointments and then don't show up." Really? That's how you run your business? Allowing people to block off appt. time and then not show up and you don't even call? Lastly, I waited a week to post this on the chance I would get some kind of phone call apologizing or offering somehow to make it right. I got nothing. I'll be finding a new mechanic and recommending the multiple people I referred to Phillips do the same... if my car can slip through the cracks then what else does? read more

I have had two interactions with Phillips and both have been pleasant. I came in asking if they could adjust a custom shock I had built, and they did so quickly and for a very fair price. I returned a few weeks later to see if they could finish some work for my truck which I didn't have time to do. The work was done well, and came out very close to the price I was quoted. What stood out to me was the fact that they took care of an existing issue I had with my ABS lines even though I said they did not need to investigate/worry about that problem. I was pleasantly surprised when I got in the truck and found the ABS light to be off. Phillips has been easy to work with, and has treated me and my truck with care and respect. I cannot rave enough about the crew at Phillips Automotive. They are honest, trustworthy, dependable, and affordable. Today I waited while they patched my tire. My kids played in their awesome waiting space (clean, comfortable, great toys), I had a cup of coffee, and we were back on the road in under 30 minutes. It is a great shop with awesome people that do great work.
