Ordered online on December 5th. Still have not received Christmas order and it is now December 22nd. Contacted their customer service email and took several days for a response which was it is in the queue. Tried calling...... no one answers the phone. Not only do they have the best chocolate- they also have the best customer service! I placed an order on line and when I didn't receive it within a week like I usually do I called to see why. When they realized it was their mistake that it hadn't shipped and that I needed some of the chocolates ordered to give as gifts in a two days, they overnighted the candy at their expense. It has taken me 45 years to find the Coconut Easter Egg that my dad bought me when I was 6. Through the years, I would go to the website and pick the egg and get all the way through checkout only to stop because the price of the egg was the same as the shipping charge. I couldn't imagine paying the fee. Well, I went through the same horse and pony show this year and did not back out. The package came perfectly shipped in dry ice. The memory of smell is the strongest sense and when I opened the box, this egg brought back the memory of my dad. My only regret is that I didn't push the button years ago. I placed an order early this December to gift someone a package come Christmas. The payment is processed and then it stayed like that for a few days. One week later I sent a message asking for an ETA. A few days later I called asking if something happened and received a terse "it'll be packed by the end of the week." Okay, I can work with that. But then the week ended and next week I still see no update. At this point I'm not even sure if the candy will come in on time so asked to cancel. Ten minutes later I received a response to that first message that repeated what I heard from the call: it'll be delivered between Thursday to Saturday and will do their best to make sure it is delivered before Christmas. I replied by asking to please cancel and instead I received a shipping notification (not from them mind you) saying that it'll be delivered on a day when I'm traveling to visit the person I was going to gift this to. I called the day after and they changed the phone greeting (no longer recommending to cancel online but that orders are processed immediately) and no one picked up the phone. I would have accepted an explanation of why it's so slow, an apology, an exchange-anything-to show they cared to deliver then I would be okay--the fact that I was okay with the initial brusque response reflects that. Even if they canceled the order I wouldn't have bothered to write this. Instead, I have a shipping label that hasn't moved two days from Christmas that they very obviously do not want to cancel when it can't even be delivered on time. They have a nice looking selection, but sadly I do not think they want your business. read more

This year's Valentine's Day took a painful turn when a simple chocolate covered strawberry led to a dental disaster! I received a box of chocolate covered strawberries from Philadelphia Candies, but when I bit into one after a long car trip, my front tooth completely snapped off at the root....mind you that this strawberry was not frozen or even refrigerated at the time. The chocolate was rock solid - I literally had to use all my strength to cut through it with a knife. Despite filing a complaint, the company claims no negligence and that it met industry standards. Now I'm facing a grueling 8-month journey with multiple surgeries and up to $10,000 in out-of-pocket costs for a tooth implant. Not to mention the temporary tooth woes - lisps, eating issues, and just feeling off. What should've been a sweet Valentine's treat turned into an expensive and painful ordeal. Beware of overly hardened chocolate goodies! I'll think twice before indulging in those tempting treats again and Philadelphia Candies will most certainly not be on my list for gifts to those I love. read more

I had the honor and privilege of traveling with my dad back to Sharon where he grew up this summer for his 65th high school reunion. Philadelphia Candies was on the MUST visit list as we had quite a bit of chocolates to pick up; brought them home to TN on ice in a cooler, and they did not disappoint; they never do. It's been a staple in my dessert experiences and nothing else truly compares, especially in my home town. Now that none of us live nearby, we rely on online ordering. It's easy, convenient, and I know I'll get fresh chocolate in a matter of days. Philadelphia Candies is also part of my wedding! Honestly, though, you really need to try croquettes to discover their deliciousness. The lovely people at Philadelphia candies offer up just about every kind of candy you can imagine - and some you haven't. Personal favorites include the melt-aways, the coffee bark (chocolate-covered espresso beans, but even better) and, of course, the croquettes. Also, they will sample anything for you, in full-size pieces, seemingly for an unlimited period of time. I think it's important that we all agree not to abuse this so that they keep doing it this way! Some fanciful chocolates include multiple different versions of mini chocolate handbags, not-so-mini chocolate high-heeled shoes, and a man in a bowler hat with a message "I'll drink to that." Also on offer: party items, cookbooks, aprons, chocolate-drizzled popcorn, and hilarious cupcake wrappers (including one that makes your cupcake look like a hamburger. Honestly, you just have to see it (and taste it) to believe this place. We were visiting family in Northeastern Ohio and drove to PA just to get this candy! While you're near Northeastern Ohio, I also recommend checking out Francesco Pizzeria - which I also reviewed on Yelp. I debated selecting the price category for this review. While it certainly isn't "cheap" for the high quality of the merchandise I consider Philadelphia candies to be a great value. An old fashion chocolatier experience. If only it was on the main drag downtown where you could admire everything in the window as you pass by. Alas, it sits in a strip center. Back to reality. Went in to stock up for Easter gifts. The chocolate just tastes rich. The novelty candies are relatively priced right, especially since there is a competitor down the way. The first review was clearly written by an employee or relative. For shame. I cannot rate Philadelphia's chocolate because I never got to try any. It looked good but that is as close as I got to it. However, their service leaves a lot to be desired. Went in and there were five people behind the chocolate counter with their backs turned. There are huge mirrors in front of them so I know they saw us standing there. They ignored us for a full minute while talking to each other about personal things. Then two of them walked from behind the counter, walked past us, and never greeted us or said a word. The store was not busy. There were only two other people in the store. There is no excuse for their behavior. I get the feeling they don't want certain "types" of people in their store. Not a problem. I will not be back. I wanted to get chocolate to send to relatives overseas. I was determined, so we turned around and went down the street to Daffin's candy. On the highway coming into Hermitage there are signs for both candy stores. We weren't sure which one to visit. When we saw Daffins we decided to bypass it because it is a much larger store and I really did not want to walk around a huge store. I was tired from traveling and shopping all day. However, I was determined to get chocolate. So after being ignored at Philadelphia's we went down the street to Daffin's. I'm glad we did. The people there are much friendlier. We got immediate help at the chocolate counter which is much larger and had fewer employees but one of their employees behind the counter approached us immediately. I was pleasantly surprised that Daffin's had a lot of cute gift items like mugs, kinck knacks, etc. I'm glad I did stop in. Their chocolate is outstanding. I was very pleased with my purchases and the service. We were only in the area for shopping at the Prime Outlets in Grove City. We rarely make it to that area. However, when I do, I will definitely not make the mistake of stopping into Philadelphia Candies again. read more
