Worst experience ever! Would NEVER recommend this salon to anyone!!! This salon does not give a shit about their customers. Long story short...the Stylists at this salon do not ask what you want and even if they do...they still do what they want to your hair. Went twice and hated both my cut and highlight. I told the manager the issues with my hair and he offered me $10 off my next visit. You can keep your $10 and know that I will tell everyone I know to never go there. It's been a few months since I've had my terrible experience there, but let me elaborate. I LOVE a new style, love vibrant colors, love being different. I picked a stylist who looked the part, she had bright blue hair in the photo, and her being a 'specialist-level' made me feel confident that she'd give me the edgiest look possible. I got far from that. I came in asking for a bright pink, and an edgy haircut. I got quite a few inches chopped off and come to find out just the other day (getting a hair cut with a different stylist, different salon) she took more than a couple inches off, she took a CHUNK off on my right side. My stylist looked at me like "who in the world cut your hair? There's a part missing!" I always thought it felt weird after my haircut but never thought she actually took more off than she should've. My hair was also very unevenly cut, which I thought was weird since it's such a high-class salon. I asked for bright pink, and thought since she and another stylist had bright colored, vibrant hair that I would get the same. No. My hair color came out salmon, and actually faded within a week. When I asked her why my hair wasn't the vibrancy I wanted she stated that 'aveda colors are natural, and it could've came out bright or dull, we just never would know until we try and unfortunately yours came out dull.' Okay, so if Aveda colors are so natural, then how do you get BRIGHT blue hair? Hmm. Also, during my 'consultation' she stated that she could give me vibrant, bright, pink hair. I wasn't satisfied with their customer service either, they state that they're not uppity, but they are. Go somewhere else and spend WAY less than they charge. My haircut and color was $200! By far the best salon experience I have ever had. Ever. And believe me, I've been in a lot of salons, both as a client and a stylist. Other salons could really learn a thing or two from Phia! This is how they should all be. All the staff is very friendly and attentive. I watched them all talk to each other and help each other and they seem to work well together. Now let's talk about Annah. First of all she texted me before my appointment (because it was my first time) to ask me about my hair and what my goals were. Wow. When I sat down in her chair, we talked for about 10 minutes, and she took lots of notes. She listened!!! And then told me up front what the cost would be for what I was having done. No surprises at the end. I had 2 bad experiences before I came here and was a little nervous before I walked in, but that all went away as soon as she got to work. Annah is a color wizard! And a perfectionist. My hair is pretty resistant and can be difficult to color. But my hilites and root color are perfect. My color has never looked this good! And I love my haircut. She had her work cut out for her because my last haircut was so awful, and still growing out from that mess. (From a different salon not Phia). Also want to give a shout out to Annah's assistant Morgan that was helping her. She did great, and the scalp neck and shoulder massage she gave me was amazing!!! I decided to drop by because I had too much free time and felt like getting my eyebrows waxed. So I browsed through yelp hearby my area and Phia Salon came in the top 5 recommended salons. I called in to make sure they had someone available at the time to do my eyebrows and the lady who pick up my call was really polite and professional despite me trying to schedule an appointment like 5 mins before I came in. So good first impression right there. Fast forward the lady who did my eyebrows was really amazing (unfortunately I forgot her name). She was really professional and what I really like was before she went ahead and waxed my eyebrows she went over different eyebrow shapes that she thinks would suit my face shape and also the price. I'm used to being 'surprised' at the checkout counter feeling that I'm being charged with unnecessary "extra" bills, but definitely not when I was at Phia's. So kuddos on that. I paid $18 for the service. I went there on April 1, 2014 and they had this promotion going on that if you check in on Yelp you'll get a free Aveda hand cream (sample size). read more

I want to keep this short; I've been in Columbus a few months and have tried one other place for my hair cut, so I figured I'd do my research and find another. I chose to go to Phia and was pretty excited because of their different levels of stylists and their fair levels of pricing with each stylist. I selected a senior stylist who was "new" to the salon, but the receptionist on the phone assured me she was great, perfect for my first time there, etc. Yeah, they offered me coffee, tea, water, but they didn't offer me a very good stylist. I'm not going to trash anyone by name, but I was sorely disappointed. Her communication skills were lacking and I could tell she didn't necessarily understand why I didn't want a dramatic cut (I'm growing my hair out, I just wanted things even and lightened up) and she just wasn't very welcoming or comforting. By the end of this weird anti-social experience, my bangs were cut WAY short, she made the longest length incredibly blunt, at the crown of my head, are several chunks of "layers" cut up to about two inches from the scalp. :( Now they stick up like Alfalfa. :( The strangest part is that the most words she said to me were at the end...when she was all of a sudden trying to sell me products. Nope, over it. If you skipped down to here, just know I wasn't stoked about this at all. And I would recommend either consulting with more than one stylist first, or just not going to Phia. read more

Wow! By far, one of the best salon experiences I have ever had! I went in for a simple trim but I am usually very picky with stylists and cuts. The entire Phia staff was so welcoming, I felt like I had been coming to this salon for years. Sabrina was my stylist and she honestly left me speechless! She was very open and honest with her tips and gave me so many pointers on how to get my hair healthier and stronger. She basically gave me an entire walkthrough on how to blow dry my hair properly. I really wanted to like this salon.. After all the amazing reviews, I was excited for what I expected to be a great experience resulting in great hair. And really, I wasn't asking for much. I have pretty simple, thin hair, and I just wanted a couple of inches off my length to freshen my layers and have a nice clean look for upcoming interviews. I also thought I'd add on a facial and take advantage of the discount given for first time guests so I could relax after a long day... What I got instead was a bit of a disaster. My stylist cut my hair dry, which I have had done before and didn't have a problem with. But when she asked me how I wanted it styled, I asked for a simple blow dry with a round brush to give it some natural-looking big wave curls. What resulted was a mess of stringy, frizzy, odd looking curls-- which she realized looked bad, and said she'd fix by touching up with a straight iron. What then resulted were tight, awkward little-girl curls mixed in with the stringy mess from before. At that point, I just asked her to please straighten everything because I just couldn't step outside that way... Which she attempted to do. Finally, I thought, well at least the facial is next and hopefully that makes up for all this, but I also considered leaving right then, as I was a bit nervous. Turns out, so was my stylist, because she completely forgot about the facial and was about to show me to the register when I reminded her.. The facial could've been nice, but it felt rushed.. And I pretty much just sat with a slightly cold towel on my face for a while. When she sat me back down to straighten some front bits, I asked to see the back of my hair (bc she hadn't shown me yet) only to see some awful looking kinks she hadn't bothered to straighten, and said she didn't see them until I looked in the mirror.... Right. Honestly, even then I wasn't happy with the cut, it looked choppy and uneven once straightened, but I was too nervous about what could result if I stayed in that chair for any longer. Oh, and I got charged $20 extra because of my length... Never in my life have I had that happen, especially considering the fine texture of my hair... It certainly does not take more time to style, unless you screw it up 3 separate times. So really, I think the salon is beautiful, and there were plenty of people around me with fabulous cuts and styles going on, and I was so jealous I wasn't sitting in one of their chairs. Bottom line, skip the add ons, pay for an upper level stylist (mine was a level 1, big mistake) and hope that you don't get charged an extra $20 only to have your hair fried and chopped unevenly and looking anything but natural...I would have happily paid more if it meant walking out happy and feeling good.I'm just praying mine grows out enough before interviews that it looks passable. After reading all the positive reviews about phia salon and being disappointed at charles penzones about a bilion times, I decided to give Phia a try. I went in for blonde highlights. I told my colorist I didn't want any brassy tones, and then showed her a highlight I'd tried to do myself (because I HATE shelling out 150 bucks for something that doesn't end up looking good anyway, so I thought I'd try it myself) and pointed out that my root had pulled blonde while the rest of my colored hair had pulled brassy red. I understand virgin and colored hair isn't going to be one even color when you highlight it, but I thought if I went to a salon they would be able to tone it out and make it even. Long story short, my highlights are the same blonde up top, brassy red orange on bottom i would've ended up with if I did them myself at home, and I ended up paying 150 bucks for it. Oh, and also, a hair cut wasn't included, which is totally fine because I didn't really want one, but I would've ended up paying the same at penzones and a hair cut would've been included. I will say, I thought I was pleased in the salon, but the lighting was weird and after getting home and giving it a second inspection, I'm way less than thrilled. I chose this salon based on location and reputation. Initially, my experience was pretty good, offered a beverage when waiting, didn't have to wait too long, but then it slowly worsened as the appointment went on. I had an appointment with Annah herself. She implied multiple times throughout the appointment that she was the best and how lucky I was to get in with her, but if her prices were too steep one of her assistants could cut my hair in the future (pretentious much?). Her assistant washed my hair, did this and that, and Annah cut my hair. She talked to me for a little bit, but the majority of my appointment was her talking to her next client (some kid and his mom) and what they were going to do with his hair, while cutting my hair. Made me nervous if she was even paying attention to what she was doing. There was no connection whatsoever because her schedule is so busy. I've never been treated like that during a haircut. Typically stylists at least ask questions, get to know you, but I was ignored the whole time as she's cutting my hair. The cut itself was fine, though a little uneven as it grew out, and I asked why she didn't use a clipper and she made it clear she was too good to use a clipper, that she only uses scissors for everything (which is fine). It was so impersonal, I'll never go back. I typically grow my hair out longer before the next cut, but her staff insisted I make a 4 week appointment even though I made it clear I wanted to make it for later. Then when I called to cancel they kept trying to get me to reschedule (pushy much?). However, I did think it was nice to receive a follow-up text message asking how I liked it or if I needed change, so that's good service there at least. But, I don't plan on going back, sadly. I went to Phia Salon today; Friday July 16 2010 and boy was I in for a treat! What an awesome experience, from the time I walked in to the time I left, I felt valued and never pressured. Rania took the time to talk over color choices with me and then explained pricing so I knew how much I'd be spending before I even got to the counter. She was so knowledgable it was refreshing. I so appreciated the fact that she took the time to write my likes and dislikes color wise and recorded the color we used this time to reference in the future. For the first time ever a stylist finished two bowls of color just as she was finishing my hair. I appreciate the fact that she had no leftover as that is just waste. The scalp and neck massage alone during the shampoo was worth the price of admission. I will absolutely be returning to Phia and to Rania in the future. She is a breath of fresh air in a city full of the same old same old. Moved to C-Bus from California last year for 18 mos. I needed to find a good place to get a haircut. I was worried about avoiding what appears to be the "standard" Midwest cut (I'm talking short and above the ears that seems to very common here - note, a lot of people look good with that cut, but I'm not one of them). Anyway, Phia is the place to go if you want to maintain (or get) a uniquely styled haircut. Michelle (sr stylist) is the best. She has great style and will offer excellent suggestions if you want them. Plus, she's one of the cooler people to talk to, which makes the 45 mins or so fly by. read more

Meh. Meh. Meh. It's hard for me to put to words what went wrong. The stylist gave me constructive criticism about my current haircut. I tried to explain to her that I understood what she was trying to convey, but that I'd prefer to keep my hair similar to the way it is with just a trim and a little shaping. The outcome was uneven and unpleasant. Plus she was multitasking on too many jobs that I think she just wasn't focused on my haircut. I felt like I was in the way. For the price, I expect more focus and attention. I debated going back for a fix, but was so unconvinced that I'd be happy with any further service that I decided I'd just let it grow out and get it fixed at my next trim elsewhere. read more

I moved away from Columbus in June and man am I missing my stylist Sarah! I never got a haircut I didn't like from Sarah. The color was always perfect, the cut was always great, and she was always fun to talk to. I'm super picky about my haircuts (I almost always hate the cut afterward) and my brown hair turns red very easily (which I don't like) but Sarah managed to give me an amazing cut and color time and time again. Five stars for my stylist, Rania--she's one of the best I've ever had, and really great at coming up with a new fun short haircut every month or so. I highly recommend her, but can't speak for the other stylists at the salon. No, it's not as cheap as the Aveda school up the street, but your cut and color won't take four hours, either. First off, they were able to get me in within a half hour, and they also said they would be able to accept the yelp certificate if I bought it just then. Sarah was my stylist and she did a great job listening to what I wanted and I couldn't be happier that I decided to stop in today! I made an appointment at Phia 3 days before my New Year's Eve event & they fit me in without any problem. They even paired me with a stylist that works with ethnic type hair frequently, after I mentioned that I was biracial and have "difficult" hair. When I walked in I was greeted almost instantly & offered something to drink. Ross (my stylist) came out to get me & asked me for details of what I was looking for. He took one quick glimpse at the picture & thats all it took! He explained every step in the process, including the break down of the price. He worked quickly, and within an hour I had a beautiful vintage style undo that all of my friends raved about! Even other customers in the salon were complimenting my hair & asking for something similiar. It was exactly what I was looking for and the price was very reasonable - especially after the first time customer deal ($40 for $25). I have had such nightmare experiences in the past because of my hair type. It was nice to work with a stylist that was familiar and comfortable with my type of hair. I have been a client at Phia for 3 months now. I am very neurotic when it comes to my hair, to the point that I have had hairdressers literally refuse to cut my hair. I get small panic attacks when I get caped up for a cut. I have been trying to grow my hair out from a pixie cut and so even the smallest snip gone wrong can make a huge impact to my hair. This being said.....I have complete faith and trust in Annah, who I regularly see, and now just recently Lindsey as well. They get it, they know exactly what I am wanting from a cut and the cuts have been amazingly consistent. They are very conscience about my satisfaction, even going as far as to send a "how's the cut wearing?" text a few days after a visit. The whole salon runs this way. The hours are great, and they will go out of their way to fit you in when and an impromptu trim comes up. Phia offers several levels of talent, and work together as a team to ensure the quality of their services. Prices range by the level of the stylist experience, so I find it very affordable as well. The only con I can think of is parking, so I recommend just spending a few extra bucks and park in the Hubbard St. Parking Garage. There are a lot of great shops and restaurants in the area so give yourself some extra time for thoroughly enjoyable "me time" experience. I highly recommend Phia Salon to anyone who is particular about their hair and demands great customer service. read more

My first time going to phia salon was to get a god awful color correction. I am a platinum blonde and my hair turned purple and my roots bright golden, every blondes worst nightmare. I was scheduled with Danielle and she fixed my color yes, and I showed her pictures of the color I wanted, and I did not leave with that color. I wanted a white blonde and left with a very yellow toned platinum, a color I never wanted because it didn't compliment my skin tone. About 4 days later I was washing with my regular purple shampoo, that I have been using for 5+ years on my bleached hair, and my hair was still porous it turned purple, again... I went back immediately and she fixed it and told me she would not guarantee my hair unless I used the products from the salon. I have never once turned my hair purple with this shampoo and all of the sudden it does. I don't think that's so much my shampoos fault. On top of the purple malfunction, my roots started to turn ever so brassy. She fixed them and one side was a little too ashy to match the rest of my hair. She said it would wash out in the next two washes or so and go back to the normal color. It faded but never returned back to my normal color. Frustrated, I went back being the only saloon I knew in Columbus. I just wanted my roots touched up and it was once again, not toned the correct color and was to yellow for the pictures I showed her. And once again my roots started to fade within 2 weeks of my visit into an ugly yellow color. Also in that same visit she trimmed my hair which I agreed to because it was in need of a cut. I was charged 35 dollars I believe for something my 7 year old niece could have done with her safety scissors. Once I had finally realized it, I was out of state and wouldn't be back to have her fix it. I'm all around disappointed in the service I've gotten from the salon even though the staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. If I ever go back, I will be going to someone who has much more knowledge in the bleaching department because Danielle could not as simple as put the color I wanted on my head, let alone the wrong color on without there being some kind of fault. If anyone knows any other good salons they've been to that can bleach hair, I would love to know were. They did have great chairs where they wash your hair. This review is a bit overdue. I went to Phia salon two weeks ago upon a friends recommendation and am I glad I did. My hair stylist Chelsea was great. I had layers put in my hair and hair looked absolutely beautiful. I also ended up buying the products she used in my hair. Her presentation of these products was great and one thing that I really appreciated was that she wasn't pushy at all which has been my experience at many other hair salons. Steven is the "Hair God". I hadn't been to a salon of this nature ever. I had been going to the same place to get my hair done for 10 years. Let me just say that Steven changed my life. My hair is fabulous and my husband is so sick of all of the compliments already and it has only been since Saturday. The color looks amazing. Steven nailed it with just a brief consultation. I agree with every other person that has experienced the shampoo, it was fantastic. Steven has such talent and is very personable. I am so happy that I made the change and I have told everyone that in order to understand the experience, they have to go see Steven at Phia. I absolutely love Phia! The location is great, and I love the atmosphere. It looks super adorable and has a very chill vibe. As someone who has never been described as super classy, posh, or prim and proper, most of the time when I enter a nice salon I feel like incredibly out of place. But I have never felt that way at Phia. Everyone has always been very nice, friendly, and professional and knowledgeable. Literally, EVERYONE. I know nothing about hair and need a lot of guidance and poor Ross got stuck with me. Every time I come in, he asks me what we are doing today and every time I respond with, "I don't know, Ross, whatever, just work your magic." And he delivers every time. As a 35 year old female who has had gray hair for the last 15 years, I finally decided to take steps to grow out my gray. Knowing this was a big step, I turned to the experts. When I searched for salons in Columbus, Phia was at the top of my search and with the amazing reviews I decided to give them a try. I am so glad that I did. My stylist, Jason, was amazing! He spent time with me reviewing what my goals were for my hair and the steps we would take that day to start my journey. Ultimately we decided to lighten my hair by adding gray highlights to blend with my gray that was already grown out a bit. The final product was shocking; it turned out even better than I anticipated. My cut, a layered bob, is also fantastic. Despicable service. The worst salon experience ever. The girl "while cutting my hair" was DANCING while her coworker was PRANCING around the room and singing. The professionalism and expertise they advertise about is online flash, and completely lacking in the actual salon. After expressing my utter discontent with the service, the receptionist proceeded with the sales pitch for their aveda products. ARE YOU $&@#ING SERIOUS??? The nerve!!! Their smug workers don't listen to the customer's request, which really contradicts the image of openness and trust they advertise. The asked for a review after the service, which I submitted, but does not seem to appear on their site, which means they only post the best reviews they get??? Business ethics tossed out the window. Is that being honest to your customers? I suspect that at least 1/2 of the near stellar reviews that inundates their google search are actually BOTS, or friends/family of their immature, minimally skilled so-called "stylists" read more

i think i could of went to Fiesta and gotten the same haircut. The girl was nice, but after my hair cut she asked my opinion and i asked her to go shorter and she refused. kept debating with me that it was fine where it was and that if i went shorter the layers blah blah blah.... doesnt matter. if the customer wants her hair shorter.... u go shorter.... it was just past my shoulders, wasnt like i wanted her to shave my head. Plus I had to pay an extra $10 because i had longer hair... my hair wasnt even to the middle of my back. outrageous. ive worked in 4 salons before and the ONLY time anyone has ever charged extra is if you are getting color... there is no reason to charge extra for long hair for a haircut. Eh. I was looking forward to being a potenial customer but it didn't happen nor it ever will. Here's the deal, i lost my hair to chemo and i had called the salon to inquire about extentions ie: how long does my hair have to be, how strong etc. The receptionist consulted with a stylist and got back on the phone to tell me that the stylist was currently training in hair weaving and i would probably be charged just the cost of hair. Good deal,so I thought. Later on that day the receptionist email me and copied the stylist as well just to recap on the conversation. That was over a month ago. I have then emailed both of them back and received no reply. How about this...don't tell someone you are going to do something and don't do it. I have already been though enough mental hurt from losing my hair so to have someone tell me they can give me my self-esteem back really boosted my mood just to later burst my bubble. read more

Back in march I went to Phia for the first time because I read a lot of good reviews and wanted to try somewhere new. My appointment was scheduled with a new talent for I believe around or a little after 3pm. It was the day before my 21st birthday and I was super excited to get my hair done because it seriously needed it. My hair reaches a little past my elbows so it was pretty long. I was getting 5-6-inches cut off and an all over color. I showed up to Phia about 30 minutes early in hopes I would be seen a little early because I had plans for my birthday and wanted to enjoy the beautiful day. The ambiance was nice and the guy who greeted me was super friendly but told me it would be awhile and suggested I come back. Phia is in the short north and it was a beautiful day so I didn't mind. I came back about 10 minutes before my appointment and was told my stylist was still with her client who was taking longer than expected. I was offered coffee, tea and a hand massage but was content at the moment just looking at the magazines. I was not seen for OVER 30 minutes after my scheduled time. I have medium brown hair and I wanted to dye my hair a dark plum color. I was told that my color could not be achieved and that I would have to come back multiple times to achieve the plum color which I thought was a little odd because I've seen many people who had this color so I didn't think it would be so difficult. It took over an hour after my scheduled time to even get started on my hair because it took her sooo long to figure out the color because she had to keep getting the formula checked by a higher level stylist. fast forward to 2 hours later and we are detangling my hair instead of using the wet brush she was using a fine tooth comb and another stylist suggested she used the wet brush. I appreciated her gentleness with my hair but everything just kept taking so long and I really just wanted to leave and enjoy my day with my friends. 1 hour later and we just started cutting my hair. she told me she would only charge me for one tube of color since she could have cut some of my hair before coloring since I was getting 6 inches cut off and it would have only used one tube but i am pretty sure I still got charged for 2 tubes. fast forward to another hour and I was the only customer there and they were closing down the salon. The cut she did was not like the picture I showed her and I was dissapointed because nothing was turning out like I hoped it would. When a higher level stylist came to "Check her cut" he spent over 30 minutes fixing it and showing her what to do to improve and it turned out really nice. It was around 8:40pm I had been there for almost 5 hours and was sooooo ready to get out. Sitting in a salon chair for over 5 hours is horrible. I told them multiple times it was my birthday, I told them I had people waiting on me and they obviously were aware it was my first time at Phia. They were all really nice and I enjoyed talking with my stylist as she was really nice too. They all apologized multiple times about the lengthy time but did nothing that benefited me and made it better. I was super nice the entire time, friendly and understanding. I was given no "first time visitors bag" I was given absolutely NOTHING to compensate my experience and time. I was charged over $130. I have no clue how a hair cut and color with a new talent amounted to $130. I was super dissapointed and will most likely never go back to Phia read more

I have been searching for a salon/stylist in Columbus ever since I moved down here two years ago. Everywhere else I have been just doesn't seem to understand what look I'm going for and can never get my hair the color I want. I made an appointment at Phia with Meagan this weekend and my hair i FINALLY looking the way I have wanted to it for years! I have finally found someone who understands how to get my hair the platinum silver color I want and is also conscience of how damaging it can be. Most stylists seem intimidated and confused by hair as it is terribly damaged, has a full array of colors and tons of layers. But not Meagan, her confidence kept me at ease and her enthusiasm and creative input got me so excited. It is very obvious how passionate she is about her career and her talent is especially exceptional for being a younger stylist. I recommend this salon with no reservations! read more

Phia is a relaxing, heavenly experience. As you walk in the door you see the new artist being displayed all over the shop. The front desk assistant offers a fresh beverage as you wait. The wait is never long, just enough time to pick out a current magazine to read while you're in the chair. Each stylist has their own style, and its a warm friendly atmosphere. Kelly takes her time in your first appointment asking what kind of hair you like, colors, cuts, etc. She works with your budget, and every time you walk out feeling like a million bucks. Her blowouts are amazing. They generally last 5 days. The color is prismatic, and has depth. The products have changed my hair from frizzy to smooth. The facials are AMAZING! I highly recommend the eye lash extensions, they are easy to take care of and you wake up looking great. Phia is a clean, professional, fun place to go. I look forward to every appointment.
