I found my new favorite Vietnamese junk food place at Phi coffee and tea. I came here to try out the Thai green tea that everyone raved around. It was alright, the drink kinda reminded me of the Vietnamese grass jelly fruit drink. However, I did really enjoyed their baked clam dish, it reminded me of the time I had them in Vietnam's junk food stalls. :) The restaurant was cute and it was decorated like Izakaya (Japanese) style. They were playing Korean music the whole time I was there. It was overall a nice place to meet with friends and for cheap eats. Service was like an order to go style and the cashiers were friendly. I have eaten here many times specifically for the BBQ Bahn Mi that they do which I really don't have many complaints about other than maybe a little upgrade to the bread because it sometimes can be a little hard. The BBQ pork tastes great and the flavor is how it should be. Their milk teas can be pretty sweet for a lot of people but everywhere in Asia I have tried drinks like this they are sugar bombs as well, or condensed milk bombs. I do like their Thai Style iced tea which is the other thing I tend to order here regularly. Love Love Love this place! The restaurant is located in the same building with Hiep Thai market, and pretty tiny store-wide. However, the inside is pretty spacious for groups, not too big but more like a warm and cozy atmosphere. As I walked in, I was amazed by the decorations, it brings you a contemporary vibe with a very relaxing feeling, the owner definitely had good eyes! On the left is a set up for live music with a piano and drums (they used to have live music every Saturday night but I'm not sure if they're still keep it going), the right side had more tables and as you go further in to the order bar, they also had more tables with giant teddy bears as decorations :) I always go to Phi whenever I'm craving Vietnamese food (not very authentic but 90% close to) and milk teas. My favorite drink is Oolong Tea with Sea cream Saigon style and favorite dishes are Bun dau mam tom, Bun thit nuong and Pha lau (I know it's too much lol). I pretty much had the same experience as others have had. Their food is super good. Especially the seafood, it tastes like home! But the service is severely lacking. Maybe they should have actual table service and allow the customers to tip their staff instead of a hybrid McDonald checkout with some table service. We have to asked the staff several times because we need utensils, napkins, sauces... It's clear that they don't care much about customer service. The price is decent. Not so good, not so bad. So I've been here three times. The first 2 times I tried ordering food and they said they ran out of food.. I thought it was odd since there's a market attached to the place.. anyways I ended up getting the green Thai tea and it was delicious. I always see Phi and never go there but i would always look at pictures of the food and drinks and finally I decided to go there tonight bc I was super hungry. As I walked in, I was not greeted by any employee to tell me where I need to sit. we looked at the menu at the counter, ordered and picked a seat. I wasn't aware but the water is self serve too. Okay... the food. I ordered duck noodle soup and my bf got the pho. You really can't mess up pho, I'm a huge foodie and I love cooking too so it isn't that hard. The pho tasted homemade which is great, but it had a strong toasted cinnamon flavor that overpowered the star anise and beef flavor. Not my favorite kind of pho, it wasn't bad but it was unique... my bf said the meatball was good. My duck noodle soup was good too but not something I would order again. Rather "okay" Mainly bc I like duck but maybe it's not my preference as a soup, I did not like it. My Thai tea was very watered down, it wasn't sweet at all and I have no idea why my Thai tea wasn't good bc it's easy to make and every Vietnamese restaurant I've been to never messes up Thai tea. Since then i've tried their food and different drinks so i can review more thoroughly. they also changed the interior design and added decorations so it looks more like a cafe now. Service: Average. Sometimes they call out your drinks but their music's volume is so high you have to pay attention (music is nice but when you cant talk to others,its a prob). keep in mind some workers are new so they're slower with taking ordes. The nice thing is they will change your drink if you dont like it,unlike other Vietnamese place. I did this a couple of times and they were more than welcoming to do it so if you dont like ur drink,let them know. Food: their food is a bit more pricey compare to ur regular Vietnamese restaurants so i dont stop by that often.their mi vit tiem (duck noodle soup),beef stew noodle soup,customized fried noodle,rice plate are good.they have banh mi (never try),shrimp spring roll (good),fried bun,che, corn milk (my fam loves this) etc Drink: i always get their Phi style green milk tea. My friend likes the Taiwanese one. I dont like the sea salt and that drink with green tea powder much. Others get it tho. I like how they use real milk + tea (u can watch them make it). Their avocado shake is a must as well,very creamy with real avocado. They have water on the side so dont ask cuz they wont bring it out. You have to get it urself. But i didnt like how they do drink w no ice. I got my milk tea w no ice last time cause i wont be home for a while and i literally got half a cup of milk tea? I didnt feel like arguing but other places add tea or water if you get no ice so u at least get 2/3 a cup. They should fix this cause i want to get my money worth. Also,they have live band on Sat night consist of lots of Vietnamese youngster singing trendy songs but its super loud. Personally i dont like noisy place when i hang out w my friends so i avoid going here on Sat night.if u like singing or like these stuffs then u'll prob like it! The landing from sfo was kinda rough to my head and stomach but I finally made it. First meal here. The drinks are soooo yummy! Duck noodle , fish noodle and Chinese dry noodle. Well, after 2 years it turned out they don't only serve drinks but also food. I just have to say their broken rice is the best in America. Also, since my last review, they've revamped a lot in decoration, making the whole thing look nicer in general. I could enjoy my evening coffee beside the cute, warm interior. If you like music, they have open performance on Saturdays where local bands come and play songs. You can volunteer to sing, too. The customer service is still good, but sometimes I feel like the new staff don't put full "heart" into serving the customers as the old ones did. After living in the Philippines for over a year, I got hooked on good milk tea. The challenge has been finding something that comes close to the goodness of Asia, right here in Texas. Enter Phi. My husband and I have tried a few of their milk teas, and the one that has won us over is their Green Tea Thai milk tea. Oh it is perfection and a thing of beauty before giving it a stir. It's that perfect blend of creaminess with the actual taste of real tea. It isn't overly sweet, and it doesn't come off bitter either. We've also had their grilled pork bahn mi, which is delicious! The price is great too. I believe it was about $3.50 or so for a huge sandwich. Oh, and make sure you try their fried dumplings called bahn bao. Those things are addicting! First time stopping in despite always shop at the Asian grocery store next door. I got the combination rice #11 and #14 grilled pork vermicilli (I order this vietnamese dish everywhere).. They flavor and chargrilled pork had the right taste. I usually get it from Pho 95. I may even try the spring rolls with grilled pork next time. The bbq ribs looked really appealing and was tender.. Kinda pricey $8.25.. Maybe better dine in since the fried egg on top eaten to go is just not as great. I did not order the drinks but they looked good.. Especially the thai green tea. I am not sure the difference between the original, taiwan style and Hong Kong style tea. I should learn since I do like tea. I usually get the milk tea with boba and not line it too strong or milky.. Or dairy tasting.. Kinda hard to describe. So, I would get mine at FroYo next to Thanh Thanh off Arkansas (next street over). Overall, I will bring the family to have lunch next time while I grocery shop next door. I will try the drinks and the durian crepes in the fridge. They did not have that many packaged to go food as previously posted. Surprisingly. The place was roomy inside. The one drawback is the wait time to get your food was a bit longer. I love this quaint little vietnamese restaurant hidden next to the big asian super market! They have a wide array of different foods that I don't see everywhere. Their coconut drink is really refreshing and they have the best mi quang around! Super creamy and peanuty and filling! I also love their Thai green tea and their com tam with ribs. Service was nice and they're usually pretty swamped with I come in so be prepared to wait a little bit for your food! It's worth it though! I've also tried their banh mi thit nuong, thit nuong plate, banh bot chien, banh mi op la, pho, and hu thieu and all of the dishes have been more flavorful than most places I've tried. My favorite dish would have to be the thit noung and I definitely want to try more of their dishes. Service is good depending on the person you're dealing with, but I guess that's with any place you go to. On top of the great drinks and food, their decorations are absolutely adorable, but getting to their restroom seems really sketchy. I feel like this place deserves better recognition than it recieved. This is my 3rd time going and im finally writing a review Atmosphere: Upon entering its a very "Asia gone America" vibe. It's a very cozy decor. Lounging is pretty much encouraged as they have a small set of board games like monopoly and jenga. The only thing that sucks is the neighboring restaurant is pretty much run down but nothing can be done about that since its a food court rented s Food: I beleive they did a great job bringing what not every place has. Its one of the places that has mi quang and even hot vit lon (duck egg). I ordered the salmon rice plate and it was perfectly done to my taste. The salmon had a caramelized crust and a great to tasting fried egg with it. The only draw back was that their veggies look like it was left to dry rather than preserved with the natural condensation. Drinks: It's not perfect but it's not the worst. It's pretty good for its worth. Ordered a winter melon cream tea and my mom got the thai green tea. They each have that natural tea bitterness but a little too much sugar to try and hide it. ( ask for little sugar in my opinion) Drinks are definitely great and refreshing though. The best part is their playlist. All the great 00's throwbacks and great k-indie songs.
