We stayed in Hays on our way to Estes Park CO. And had a Bacon egg and cheese sandwich here. It was delicious and to make better they added hash browns to the order. We had no idea until we opened the container. They were cooked perfectly. I didn't get any pictures (sorry) but the folks were very nice and polite. read more

3.5 stars! Our boys loved their waffles and blueberry pancakes! They loaded up the blueberry pancakes nicely with blueberries. Our server was attentive and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The veggie omelet was also nicely loaded up with veggies, but cheese was sparse. No stringy lines of cheese when you cut into it. :( Also don't think my omelet had any seasoning on it. My hash browns were nice and crispy though as a previous yelper noted which was delightful! :) My husband's weren't crispy at all...they were a bit mushy. He also didn't care for his biscuits and gravy and said it tasted bland. So hits and misses with some of the items. Liked the simple decor and that everyone in the restaurant was nice and seemed to be working as a team. One of the other servers helped replenish our waters throughout the meal, and the person clearing tables was doing a great job. There were only two parking spots available when we pulled in, so thankful to have found parking based on a prior review. It's a good sign when the parking lot is full! :) So, a solid 3.5 stars. Less than a mile off the highway this diner is worth the trouble of navigating the roundabouts. We had a deluxe omelet and a western omelet. Both were delicious. Where to start: Pros: the hostess was wonderful and did a fantastic job navigating the busy Sunday morning brunch rush. The bacon was perfectly cooked and the pancakes were delicious. Cons: our waitress (middle aged caucasian woman with short dark pixie cut) asked every table around us a dozen times how they were doing, if they needed anything, and immediately responded with a smile. I just wonder why my girlfriend and I didn't receive the same service? We would ask politely for something as simple as a straw and never receive it, had to attempt multiple times to get her attention for refills, and never once was asked if we were ok or needed anything. Being that it's 2022 it couldn't have possibly been that we were a lesbian couple, so I wonder did she hate the black shirt I was wearing, the glasses on my face, or the smell of my perfume because all of those seem as ridiculous as refusing to serve us or making a quick judgment because of who I was sharing that breakfast with. read more

My biscuits and gravy were horrible 2 biscuits torn in half face up with gravy biscuits were so dry they were hard and gravelly. The gravy did not soften them at all. I liked the family-owned and old-timey barn look to it on the outside, that is what I like personally in a breakfast place that isn't IHOP and others. Well, not a whole lotta choices in town. I picked the one that was not an ihop. Service was fast, not real friendly. All the servers were chummy with the local guys that walked in though, made it kinda comical. I ordered the egg sandwich on a English muffin, I asked for sausage instead of bacon. There was a piece of what was probably kraft individually sliced cheese that was taken out of the wrapper. All in all it was ok, very close to an egg McMuffin that you would get at McDonalds for twice the price. I had fruit for my side (hashbrowns we're the other choice) and the fruit was canned. The bf had a waffle with strawberries & whip cream. Strawberries were the frozen kind. He said it was ok as well, nothing special. This is a cute little diner if you're looking for breakfast. My husband and I stopped here on our way back from Colorado! The waitstaff are very nice and attentive. The tables are decorated with sunflowers and a flag (Very patriotic). This is nice to see since I am a mom of a son in the Army. If it were for the brunch and food alone, there would be five stars, and for those who have no fear of COVID-19, THAT is your takeaway. For those of us who have a healthy respect for Mother Nature and what COVID-19 can do to friends, family and communities, however, it is of paramount importance to note that masks among staff were non-existent during our visit (12/23/21). This includes the hostess/manager/owner (woman with tat visible just below her right sleeve), who was friendly and accommodating, but was dry-hacking during the entire time we were dining. There's a line of shared, civic responsibility that must be drawn if we truly and collectively care about those around us, so it would've been reassuring to see one who's experiencing tell-tale symptoms of infection AT LEAST take proactive steps to prevent others from getting sick, especially when the clientele are of an older demographic. Good food, but we'll be keeping a watchful eye on our health over the next week, and second-guessing our decision to dine-in at a local establishment vs. fast food. read more

It's all that I could ask for when stopping in a place I've never been to close to the Interstate. Mostly a breakfast and sandwich shop. Lite lunch includes a half sandwich, soup, salad or a slice of pie and tea or coffee. This was only $5.60. The BLT was tasty but the Midwest salad was the usual pile of green leaves, croutons with a side of dressing. If you've never been to the Midwest before, the most important thing you can do for yourself is have a slice of pie. It's really what this type of joint is best at. read more
