What a jewel!! The BEST home cooked meal you will ever find outside of your mama's kitchen! The buffet had chicken fried steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, fresh from the oven dinner rolls and a salad bar. Bierocks, bierocks, bierocks! Get here early they go fast! If you like traditional German bierocks, but like me, you don't get a chance to make them often, take a day trip to Wilson and enjoy. These taste as good as my Volga German mother-in-law made. They have other tasty homestyle options, but the bierocks are the stars of the show! read more

Great little mom and pop restaurant where everything we had was delicious and very obviously homemade with care. The waitresses were friendly and accommodating. They have this cooler that has amazing looking homemade pies. Hubby got a piece of pumpkin pie to go and I got a homemade apricot kolache to go. You can't come to this part of the country with having a bierock! Mine was delicious. Homemade chips came with it. Ordered the two egg breakfast with bacon and country potatoes and upgraded to biscuit and gravy instead of toast. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Fresh pies were just out of the oven so I got a slice of coconut cream to go along with an apricot kolache. A quick stop during a long drive. Refueled, refreshed, and I recommend. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon, but there was quick service. Less than an hour stop from being seated, ordering, eating and payment! I got the homemade chicken sandwich, and the chicken was way better than I expected! That was good. We stopped for breakfast on our way to NW Kansas and were very pleasantly surprised. The food is exactly as promised, made from scratch. In addition to the usual breakfast fare, they offer homemade Kolaches and a huge selection of pie that can be purchased by the slice or by the whole pie. The ambiance is old school diner with an eclectic collection of chickens! The service was efficient and very friendly. They are only open Thursday-Sunday and from 7:00am-2:00pm. One of the worst restaurants experiences I have ever had, having worked in service industry for over 20 years, I have more compassion and understanding than most folks, however, the staff at Made from Scratch were some of the rudest I have ever witnessed. Waited more than 10 min for someone to even look at us while we waited to be seated. I could deal with that, it looked like they had just quieted down after an AM rush. When we were finally seated we were asked if we wanted the buffet, I asked to also see a menu and the employee seating us snapped that it would take longer. She then proceeded to physically throw menus and silverware rollups on the table while proclaiming she wasn't our server. We left after that. I could understand if we were rude but we were patient and polite. We will never come back. read more

Visited the World's Largest Czech Egg and stopped by Made From Scratch for lunch. I read some of the older, negative reviews, but a local swore by it so we went in. Ignore the negative reviews. There are plenty of good eats here, and plenty of people enjoying them. Some in the group enjoyed the bierock, a hunk of bread stuffed with ground meat, sauerkraut and onion, served with fresh chips. I had the homemade chicken tenders...the real deal...big planks of battered chicken breast served with ranch dressing and a side of curly fries. The desserts are the highlight of the menu. Seriously. The rhubarb and chocolate cream pies were outstanding. But the homemade vanilla ice cream really kicked it over the top. So good. If only I could have taken some of it home! read more

We were looking for places nearby while driving through KS on our road trip from MN to CA. Boyfriend found this while I was driving down the interstate worried we'd only find a fast food chain at an upcoming exit. We decided to go about 10 minutes off the beaten path to give this place a try after seeing they had rhubarb pie. There was a very large group in a side room and the tables were covered in plates with mostly eaten food when we walked in. There was only one server working when we stopped in the afternoon so it was easy to see how she'd gotten overwhelmed with a group of about 14-20 added onto their normal afternoon patrons. It took a few minutes but she stopped by with menus, mentioned the buffet, and asked what we'd like to drink. When she came back with the drinks we placed our orders. They were out of kolaches and bierock by the time we got there, but hearing they were out of 5 or 6 items made me feel good since that usually means the food is 1. good 2. made daily. We ended up trying the ham and cheese sandwich and a slice of warm rhubarb pie with house made vanilla ice cream. The sandwich wasn't much too look at, no fancy sexy plating or garnishes, just a generous cut of ham on a soft bun with good melted cheese. The sandwich came with fresh made house potato chips. While not super crispy they were obviously fresh, had a great flavor, and were not over salted. We split the sandwich and devoured it quickly. The rhubarb pie was one of the best I have had since enjoying a slice off ones my grandma would make when I was little. The rhubarb was well cooked and not killed with sugar or other sweet fruits. The crust was flaky, buttery, and perfectly baked. House made ice cream can be a little hit and miss, but this was creamy and flavorful. The inside of the place is very relaxed, country, and resonates with what you will find in most small towns. You will not find anything pretentious or uppity in this little spot and that goes for the decor, service, and the food. Hipsters, the self-absorbed, and small minded need not stop here. Worth a stop if you're in the area and substantially better than any of the fast food chains you'll find along that stretch of interstate. Simple, fresh, friendly, and don't leave without trying the pie - Better yet, just stop for the pie. read more

Since the few restaurants in Lucas had already run out of food because of today's festival, we returned to Wilson for (a late) lunch before heading south. Wilson also has very few options, so we were glad to eat at this place. They have a German buffet on Saturdays (it ends at 2:00 p.m.). Truthfully, the choices were very limited (and the salad bar was measly & uninteresting-looking) - and another problem is that we don't eat meat - but the dumplings (stuffed with cottage cheese & onions) and the mashed potatoes were both delicious. The dumplings were essentially huge pierogies and they were a real treat. There were many different choices of pies for dessert, and I had the peanut butter & my husband had the apple crumb. Both were good, although the peanut butter was very different than what I'm accustomed to (it had more lemon & chiffon than peanut butter).
