Loved this place! We ate here for dinner and again for breakfast! By the am they already knew our drink order (we always make friends!) The food was really great (even though they don't have tortillas "hecho a mano" (which is a joke, super hard to find). This restaurant was right next to our hotel and I'm so glad we went! The food is better than all the Mexican food in Colorado where we are from. The margarita was tasty and affordable. Traveling through Kansas, I was doubting we would find a good Mexican restaurant. El Dos was every bit as good as we had hoped and more! The ambience was very authentic but not as the food. My son ordered enchiladas suizas and I had Fajitas Molcajete. We were hungry but could not finish all of the food. Absolutely delicious!!!! read more

I never leave reviews unless its truly warranted and always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately this review is 100% warranted. Subpar service, food was mediocre and we felt a little shady. Just 2 of us...our waiter forgot about us, our food did not come out together so mine was barely warm by the time my husbands food came out, didnt get the cheese dip we ordered but it was still on our bill even after I told the waiter to forget about the dip since it wasnt out by the time we got our food. The bill was not itemized with prices and couldn't make out what was written...had to ask if dip was still on it...and it was. Waiter was waiting for the payment and when I looked at him, he said "oh, you want me to take it off first?" Yes sir...I sure do. And honestly still think we were overcharged with what we ordered. Except for 1 guy, the staff was not friendly. Lastly, I'm a lightweight and can tell rather quickly when I drink alcohol...on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest) this had to be a 0-1. Honestly not sure how this place gets such high ratings. Hope you all have better luck than we did. read more

From the outside, you may hesitate to go inside but you will be pleasantly surprised by El Dos! A young man (owner's son which you gotta love) greeted us right away and asked for our booth or table preference and then took our drink orders. His mom took care of the rest of our lunch and she was a pleasure to talk with. A+ for service. Food came out promptly and was delicious! Chips and salsa were tasty. We asked for the spicy salsa (so hot!) and a couple of us mixed it into the regular salsa. We ordered the taco salad, taco fajita salad, chimichanga, and burrito seco. We would all order them again. A typical "Americanized" Mexican restaurant, but still with an excellent range of items to choose from in the menu. The entrance is easy to miss but inside is bright and colorful! The staff was quick to seat and allowed me plenty of time to browse the entire menu. The service was great. The server was very friendly and service was quick. They were very busy although I am unsure as to why. I read the reviews and thought I would try based on them. I have never had a relleno that made me gag. This one did. The cheese in it was like watered down queso. The beams and rice were very bland. I never add salt to anything and even tried to see if that would help. It did not. The corn tortilla for the cheese enchilada was super thick. The red sauce was fine but nothing to write home about. Other places in town are way better, don't waste your money here if you are looking for good Mexican food. read more

Saw the other reviews on here and thought I would see if they were accurate. I am sooo glad I went. This place had amazing service, a ton of selections, and the food was really delicious. Who would of guessed in the middle of nowhere they would have such a gem. It's also got a great location right off. I-70 and by all the hotels. I'm sure I will be back. Can't wait! We were on a road trip and needed to refill gas and get something to eat. We stopped by Hays and conveniently behind the gas station, this Mexican restaurant happened to be there. Looks a bit shady outside, but inside was clean with cool atmosphere. Restrooms are nicer and cleaner than the gas station, too. :) Food was pretty good and people were nice and friendly (when available), however, service was poor. No refills on water and took forever to bring our check. Great lunch deals! They weren't stingy with my shrimp for my tacos. Loaded nachos was super loaded with ingredients. Great combination platters and a la carte is available, too. Overall, good experience! read more

Food was decent. Service is fast and friendly. Taste-wise- most of the dishes were too salty for my taste. The carnita was borderline too salty to eat. The pork tamales were delicious. The sauce poured on top was, once again, too salty. The rice was a bit mushy. I like authentic Mexican rice, where the grains are deep fried before cooking. This was not fried first, so it's missing that ooopf. Steak was good. Seafood was nice. Salsa and fresh, warm chips were a welcome sight upon being seated. read more

Wow, I should have taken a photo of the food but I had the taco, burrito, chalupa combo and it was alright. All three items were ground beef inside, but I got all that for $16 bucks including tip. It was huge I split it with my partner crime at the scene. Taste was American Mexican but to be fair I didn't order fajitas which actually looks good as well. I stopped here about halfway through my cross country drive. At first appearance the restaurant seemed run down or out of business. However after entering I was greeted by a young gentleman right away. He led me to a booth grab me a water and let me peruse the menu. The ambiance of the restaurant was very cool with great welcoming decorations and a feng shui fitting all moods. My palette was greeting with exploding flavors and I took my first bite. As you can see in the photo, my phone did not eat first. All around the food, the experience, and the customer service exceeded my expectations.
