We were still able to grab empanadas and non-alcoholic drinks from Mekatos Eatery and bring them over to enjoy at 1888 Bar, the central bar area within the market. We sat at the bar and watched a game, and the bar stayed open until after 11:00 PM when it ended. Southern Market is a great space, it's very large, clean, open, and modern, with what appears to be a beautifully renovated warehouse-style design. The black-and-white color scheme, exposed metal elements, and high ceilings give it a contemporary industrial feel. Southern Market seems like a great spot with a wide variety of food and drink options when all the vendors are open. Based on our experience, I would recommend visiting for lunch or an early dinner to take full advantage of everything the market has to offer.

This is my second time here…read more First time was in 2023 and they were renovating the lobby area and there was a wedding. The wedding was loud and disruptive until 10 pm. Breakfast was in a conference room with impromptu tables and chairs. It was a weird experience back then. This time, it had improved. The lobby is finished and it looks nice and updated. Very modern. The restaurant is done and clean. Breakfast had some clean and relatively new silverware. The experience this time was at least better. The rooms are not done renovating yet and it is still outdated. As of this date, they are still working on Floors 4 and 5 and 5 has been closed off. The location isn't too bad. It's great for golfing which I think is why people like coming here.

The space is separated into different stations and has a nice flow to it. We came on the weekend and although there were a lot of people, it never felt overcrowded or that that there was too long a wait for any of the exhibits. They could do more to make them less 'sterile.' Breakfast is what I would call "continental plus." There were croissants, breads, cookies, yogurt , granola, etc. They use real silverware rather than the stainless steel restaurant forks and knives. The B&B is right next to a busy street so road noise is always there. That's a general problem in Lancaster County. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but thought it was overpriced for what we got. For over $200, we should have gotten a full breakfast and a very cozy room.

My spouse has excellent taste in sight-unseen lodging, so his task was to pick somewhere not too far away but memorable. He was taken by the library images and the many shelves of books. Hollinger House was a B&B for many years under previous ownership but has been completely renovated and recently reopened. A weekday stay here (at a Select Registry B&B, not too many of these in the whole country) is priced incredibly at $100 a night, and you can pick any of the rooms, which are different rates on the weekends. The 1860 mansion farmhouse sits on the grounds of a long-gone tannery that was commissioned to make products for the Civil War. Hollinger House is just off the main road in a valley only a few miles straight south of Lancaster (which has Uber if you don't feel like driving even that far). Because of the off-time of the year, we had the whole house to ourselves, including the grand piano which we were encouraged to play -- and did, not too late, I swear! In all rooms is a book detailing the incredible story of how the owner (who is gorgeous and looks like a young Dorothy Parker) acquired and renovated the house, but even with this, I could not stop asking her questions. One incredible thing I have never seen before is the charging station for electric cars, including even Tesla. Nice to see such forward thinking. She is also expert at accommodating food preferences, and I spotted several vegan cookbooks in her kitchen. We are usually made to feel like a pain at B&Bs and have to make do with black coffee and fruit as everyone else gets a feast, but not here! Linda is known for her vegan scrambles and pumpkln French toast, so expect to get one of the best breakfasts you have ever had in a B&B. She is very knowledgeable of gluten free too. She is also heavily involved in the Lancaster scene and knows a lot about its redevelopment, so she has great advice on where to eat. We were there because of the new comfort food pub Root and also the Seed and found plenty more to do. Hollinger will be hosting all sorts of events in the future, so we will be keeping an eye on them and can't wait to return.
