I was surprisingly impressed! It doesn't look like much from the outside (although the brick building is gorgeous!), but the museum has made great use of the space for several exhibits and activities. My son was recently gifted with a family membership for his birthday, so we decided to try it out. We visited on a Saturday, and aside from a few Girl Scout/Boy Scout troops, the crowd was pretty mild. My son had a great time running from exhibit to exhibit - from bubbles to building racecars. His favorites were the sand pendulum, the geographical rice exhibit, and the water tables (he loves anything sensory). I was worried when we arrived in the late afternoon that we wouldn't have enough time, but we spent a solid 2 hours here, and I feel like we got to experience everything he wanted. We even purchased a few items in the gift shop (astronaut ice cream and a helicopter kit). I would definitely recommend anyone needing their kids to burn off some energy - or want to experience some hands-on science fun - to visit. We are happy that we have a membership to return, as I imagine we will be back quite often!

This place is awesome! So interactive, so much to do. It's a smaller science museum compared to what I've been to but it packs a punch with how much you can do. Definitely worth visiting.

Do not be put off that it is only a one-story Science museum! It has so much to offer with its various stations. We went on a first Friday (5 - 7 pm) when the fee is waived. It was crowded but my kids were never idle because there was always a station available for them to try and work at. The bubble station here worked very well (better than Port Discovery's) and we especially loved the sand art and the circuit table where they could figure things out themselves. There is also a small outdoor exhibit on rain barrels and recycling (reusing the water). It is a great place to visit especially if you just live near the area.

Had a great time during a recent Birthday party. The building is deceiving and packs a big punch it what appears to be a little space. Everything g is 100% hands on and explains in detail what scientific principles are being displayed. It also gives the information in an overview format which allows you to pass along as much or as little as your budding scientist is able to process. The staff seemed to be a mix of volunteers and paid, and the staff member running the birthday was just fab! They had a background in chemistry and kept the focus of a room of 6 & 7 year olds for almost 45 mins, which is truly a feat. The exhibits are well maintained, there's a science cafe with rotating exhibits, a gift shop, and a party room. Over all a great way to spend a cold afternoon and the pricing is definitely reasonable. Admission is $9 per person, ages 2+. A family membership is $89 a year.

My son took a few of their homeschool classes, which were pretty good. My 11 and 13 year olds enjoyed their exhibits.

    American Legion Post No 34

This is a response to review of 9-29-18. That review is incredibly mis-leading…read more. So to start out, I have attended at least 10 events at the American Legion's Hall from bands to celebrations. I liked it so much I joined as a member. The staff is always courteous and friendly. The prices are better than most. The facility is also kept cleaner than many other venues. The night in question, the guests were smuggling in alcohol from out-side which is a violation of the their contract.. Sorry, but when you rent a hall you are responsible for the behavior of the people you bring in. When warned that any outside alcohol was a violation of the contract and that if it was seen again the event would be terminated the Bride holding the event said it was "Not my problem". Well, it happened again.. and the event was ended and tons of people who did not know the details got really rude and surged the bar and then the girl in charge went and got help from club members (I was one of them). I saw the containers of confiscated alcohol that were left out in clear view on tables.. People that do these types of things need to stop screaming show me some respect and need to show some respect themselves. You sign a contract you take responsibility and "respect" your own word. Bartenders at a place with a liquor license have to up-hold the liquor regulations and when people are smuggling in alcohol it hits the revenue side and it keeps them from doing their job. So, you break the rules you face the consequences. No one wants to see anyone's event ended early, but when you dis-respect the contract you signed and show no concern when warned and it happens again, the event is over. With the cries for "respect", a door man is not security and is there in more of a service role for needs that come up. He is not going to frisk your guests on the way in. That would be disrespectful. In addition, the race card was played in that review.. The club has members of all races and services events from all races. Only those that refuse to comply with their contracts have issues and that is not determined by race.

Because he didn't do his job, the wedding was shut down a little after 11pm. The hall was paid to extend extra hours until 2AM! Oh, and the woman behind the bar who was bartending was extremely rude and ended up calling the police because she was shutting down the reception (mind you she said there was a riot, which isn't true) and it was all because THE DOORMAN DIDN'T DO HIS PAID JOB! Hire a new doorman/security dude. Oh and another thing, If you're of Anglo Saxon, this place is for you. If you're Hispanic or African American, look elsewhere. It seem as though they felt the need to comment that they felt like they were going to get hurt when all in all, the bartenders where also super rude and snotty all night, which is why I didn't leave a tip. Not even a penny. Don't quit your day job if you hate bartending so much. :::::::::::::::.......UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE......::::::::::::: I too been to many events here of people outside my family. Some of my friends are actually members (If you must know). This is the 6th time I've been to an event and the 2nd time police have showed up. Since the "members" of American Legion want to criticize my right to review, I will also add that the police came so fast because the woman who called the police had mentioned that someone was stabbed. Lol. Who was stabbed please tell me. The the bottle that was UNOPENED OUT IN THE TABLE WAS A GIFT TO THE GROOM AND HIS BRIDE FOR THEIR HONEYMOON. They didn't know that was brought in for it to BE GIFTED TO THEM AS THEY ARE A NEWLYWEDS. So, after it was mentioned that someone brought in that bottle that was to be gifted to them, she said that it wasn't her problem because one, she didn't know that person brought it in and two, it really isn't her fault. Why didn't the doorman tell them to take it back to their vehicle? HOW HARD IT IS TO TELL SOMEONE TO TAKE SOMETHING THAT YOU SEE BACK TO THEIR CAR? Also, the person who brought it in arrived to the reception way late. They had no idea that they could not bring in a gift bottle that is limited edition for the newlyweds that was to be opened solely for their HONEYMOON ONLY. And you guys kept the bottle lol. Oh and I gotta add that the woman in the stripped dress that was behind the bar was over charging drinks. One cup of appily ever after was sometimes charged as 2 drinks. What is that? BTW, it wasn't a surge, but it was actually my family trying to calm people down. We're all very very close and we have to calm each other down as a family. Oh and another thing, what was the point of taking all of the table linen with some cups and plates of food on them and balling them up with everything inside? Making a mess. It seems like you want some members to back you up and rate this place to try to keep the stars up and ratings high because I see that they're new on Yelp lol. Shoot, I am a US Navy veteran myself and I won't join this post. I will not be coming back. At all.

I found Excelsior by accident, after having nearly put in a deposit for another location. I set up a tour after finding them through my photographer and ended up falling in love. As someone who looked at both very outdoorsy locations and very industrial locations, this was the perfect combination of the two things that I was looking for. Excelsior was the right spot for me from the beginning, as you walk in, the building give the most breathtaking contrast of old vs new, with greenery and plants lining the walls, the terrace, and the sunken gardens. There are lots of options for both indoor and outdoor events, or in our case the combination of both. We opted to be married in front of the large greenery walls, with our cocktail hour in the catacombs and sunken gardens, and then our reception in the Grande Salon. We ended up using the Empire Room upstairs for some of my bridal shots and the street view for pictures. Don't worry, we used it all! I also wanted to mention the beautiful getting ready suite for the bridal party which is very spacious and easily fit us (approximately 10+ people at a time) and the incredibly clean and spacious bathrooms. Beyond the beautiful venue, the staff was genuinely a joy to work with. My primary contact was Kaitlyn who is the Director of Catering for Excelsior. She was so knowledgeable, prepared, and fun to work with. She also gave us lots of ideas and allowed us to customize a lot of things to make it uniquely us. That woman is a miracle worker- she even figured out how to get me things I missed at the cocktail hour (long after it ended) and gave my husband recipes from their kitchen because he LOVED the food so much. When I tell you that every person at our wedding commented how beautiful Excelsior was, how kind and organized the staff was, and how incredible the food was- I mean it. Every single person! I even had quite a few people from the catering and restaurant industry who all said it was marvelous. I couldn't have picked a better place for our wedding. It was truly a masterpiece! I could not recommend Excelsior more.
