One of the better carts in the Happy Valley Station truck pod. I'm not a cheesesteak connoisseur by any stretch, but love a good sandwich, and these hit all the notes. Have to add that on a recent visit, the owner or employee working sounded like he had Biden Derangement Syndrome, as I overheard him complaining to some guy in front of me saying 'F Joe Biden,' even though he's been out of office for months. Seemed real weird so I went to another cart. Credit for their bread, which has a nice thin crispy shell, and soft chewy inside, without being too thick. I've only ever tried the chicken versions, but the Southwest one with the green chilies is a standout. My buddy tried the steak one and said it was too salty. Appreciate the low plastic usage at this cart, sandwiches are just wrapped in paper. I do feel like for the $, the sandos should include bit more meat, without having to pay extra for more. My middle son's go-to choice during every visit to Happy Valley Station. I haven't had the pleasure of a good cheesesteak here yet, but my perennially picky eater (the kid doesn't like *bacon*, for God's sake!) devours all of his in their entirety, every time, so I feel like that's gotta be a good sign. They're among the slower of the carts when it comes to turn around time from order to table, but not egregiously so. I always watch the fresh prince of bel air so I crave a Philly cheesesteak that will satisfy my portrayal of what it would taste like. Tried this place out and it wasn't bad. The meat felt kind of scarce but had a good flavor with the creme cheese filling. In terms of flavor, it just felt like it was lacking one more thing to take it home, aside from more filling. The fries were crispy but gave a hint of raw potato taste, if that makes sense? I did get the au jus dip which brought the whole meal together alittle. I tried Phatz Philly Cheesesteak at the Troutdale Food Carts recently and was greatly disappointed. I got their classic cheesesteak and made it a combo with fries and a drink. The sandwich was one of the worst cheesesteaks I've had. It seemed really small, was not very flavorful and was on bread that left a lot to be desired. I realize that we're not in Philly, but I've had far better cheesesteaks from chains and would have thought that a food cart specializing in very specific food would have been better. read more

This was our first time to Happy Valley Food Courts. It was massively busy, but there were a ton of food options. Enter Phatz. Sometimes a nice, juicy cheesesteak sounds irresistible. And this was one of those times. There wasn't too much of a line so we didn't have to wait too long before ordering. We ordered the The Stroganoff and The Southwest. They give you a buzzer so you can go explore other options or find seating while you wait. It only took about 10 minutes before it buzzed. Stoked, my husband went up to get our meal. He took a peak in the bag and commented on huh big they looked. We took our food to a park and pulled out the sandwiches. They seemed very light at that point. We opened the sandwiches and discovered there wasn't much meat. I wouldn't say extremely sparse, but it was a little less than we were expecting. Mine had some cheese on it and had decent flavor. But I didn't love it. My husband enjoyed his more and liked that it came with a little sauce or something. Overall, it was underwhelming for us, but I wouldn't tell people to avoid it. Phatz is nothing noteworthy. Bland, muted, muddled flavors, and barely any of the extras that I ordered (I literally found about five slices of mushroom in the entire sandwich). Phartz cheese steaks you gotta do better. The help gets confused very easy so don't modify your order too much. Sandwich flavor is meh but that's fine. 1 star for the little boy portions. Sandwich is tiny and it's mostly bread. They are very stingy with the meats. Fries were from frozen and sucked. I will go back to happy valley food carts but not phartz. Phartz cheesesteaks are not fat like the name says. Eat here if you are a toddler or just need a small snack. If you are an adult or a good sized child you will leave here hungry. I hate to leave a bad review, but felt I should share our experience today after reading many similar experiences shared in the other reviews here. Main point of the story: we never got our food. We ordered from 3 other carts at around the same time we ordered a single order of tenders and fries from Phatz... including a whole crab boil, 2 double burgers & tots, and a Thai iced tea. By the time we had all the food from the other carts at our table, we started eating and after a few minutes our youngest still didn't have his meal from here. The buzzer never buzzed and we kept waiting for it. My husband waited as long as he could and then went back up to the window where they told him it would be another 10 minutes. He told them to cancel the order at that point because we were all going to be finished with our other meals. We ended up sharing with our son what we had, but he was super disappointed as anyone would be in this situation. With the cost of the space and a busy area, it's a shame this sounds like a pretty common occurrence at this food cart. The reviews for the food aren't any better so we won't be giving a second chance. The customers are there and ready to support, but the poor food and service means this cart won't survive and they'll have to open this spot for a good cart to take its place. read more

We had about 12 different Cheesesteaks and cut small pieces of each one. When the dust settled to my surprise and delight Phatz Philly Cheesesteaks finished 2nd out of 12. Ok, so this is a food cart..food carts are small and should be set up to run efficiently. The six other people in my party ordered from different carts. They all got their order and finished their meal long before I even received mine. My group a came to see if I was ok...that's how long it took to get a Philly and fries. I mean come on, we are dealing with cooking some shaved beef with a few onions and peppers...slapping it in a roll. It shouldn't take more than a half hour for a cheesesteak. I really enjoyed my experience here. I went on an off time so there was no wait I ordered and was promptly served. The meat is a really good texture and chopped just right and they're condiments were fresh. I really enjoyed their bread which seems to be a detriment to the Portland area, you can't really find good bread around here and they managed to do so it really helps with the sandwich. A sad visit to what was once a favorite. Placed our order and were given a beeper to let us know when our order was ready. We waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally went back to the window where the teenager cashier was doing nothing. No line. I asked about my order. It was sitting alone on their counter. "Oh I forgot to push the button." So we got a very cold order. Decided at this point to take it home to heat it up instead of enjoying a beer with our meal. Hungry we dove into the onion rings... one bite each. Gag. Not only were they lukewarm at best, the rancid taste of old oil was overwhelming. Not sure when they changed it last, but it wasn't recently. Ok, finally home to the sandwiches. Very minimal meat, cheese, and onions, to a lot of bread. Not nearly the amount they used to give. They have continuously raised their prices, so I wouldn't think they would have to skimp on oil changing or the amount of what you go there for. Had an order of onion rings and they were soooo bland, like no seasoning on them at all. They didn't give us any dipping sauces nor did they offer any. No napkins were given to us either.
