Needed meds and a couple of gifts. This place used to be Vicente Pharmacy, saw Angela Lansbury and Michael Douglas (not together) in here years ago. Now it's Pharmaca and while it doesn't have the incredible gift displays that used to be here, everything is still pretty special, and some of the employees are still here. There was a line of about 20 people waiting to drop off prescriptions at the CVS down the street. I walked into Pharmaca and was the only one in line. Score!! While I waited, I picked up a couple of cute cosmetic bags and some Motrin. I also perused the incredible selection of homeopathic and alternative drugs, pills, salves, drops. They have Dr. Bach remedies and European stuff, etc. It's not a huge store but they have arranged everything in a very user-friendly way, with the gifty-type items, perfumes, etc., on small displays here and there. A little far from my house but worth going to if in the neighborhood.

Found it! One of two stores in LA that carries the Earthlust brand of pretty stainless steel water bottles. Special request!

Rude store staff, no wonder they went out of business! Too much attitude and not enough service.

I drive on San Vicente every day and never noticed the pharmacy until I saw the " neighborhood pharmacy" sign.

He looked our order up and proceeded to print right away. Moises let us know how long it would take and would periodically check in to let us know how much longer. He later had to go on break and let me know another person would be finishing up the transaction. He informed his coworker the details of our transaction and that we already paid. When he got back from break, he again checked on us and our order. He explained their printer got stuck and only 30 of 40 printed. He gave us a couple of options on how to proceed--- if we would like a partial refund or if we wanted to wait for them to fix the printer and reprint. We opt for the partial refund. Moises provided us one of the best customer experience we've had at Walgreens. He was sincere in his apologies, extremely attentive, articulate and helpful. Great job Moises!

I'm sure they have been through a lot at this location, which I definitely take into consideration, but I don't think that means that low quality customer treatment is now acceptable (across multiple visits). I waited for them to come take a cheap item I needed out of the locked cages (that every item is in now), and when they did, instead of handing me the 5 dollar item, they insisted that they would take it up to the front where it would be waiting for me. After waiting in a long line, my item was not at the front.. So I just checked out without it. As I was leaving, an employee came up to me with the item I needed and acted like I was being an inconvenience. I went back and purchased the item only to find out that I missed out on a discount that I would have gotten if I'd have purchased it with my other items. I couldn't care less about the discount - ha, but it's just the principle of the situation and how the employees I dealt with could obviously care less. And this has been a re-occurring vibe at this store. Not to mention that the store's inventory has not been very great either.. ALTHOUGH, it is true that you never-ever know what people might be dealing with in their lives... --which is why I gave a 2 star rating instead of 1 star.

And yes, I can go on and on with a list of retro candies, but trust me, there's a good candy selection ranging from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even as early as the 1920s (hint: Boston Baked Beans). You'll also find cool old school vintage gift ideas displayed on their shelves, like authentic tin toys, old fashioned candies, gag gifts, candles, and cards. Besides every candy imaginable and nostalgic games, there's a charming ice cream counter with retro bar seats, fresh soda flavors for unique creations, and a good selection of sundaes. I was feeling adventurous on that particular afternoon so I ordered the YELLOW BRICK ROAD SUNDAE. It's made with Mint Chocolate Chip, hot fudge, whipped cream, lime syrup, and yellow LEGO bricks. If I order this again, I'm skipping the lime syrup -- it's as awkward as one of those weird jello mold recipes from the 1950s. The LEGO bricks are cute and taste like Smarties only much, much harder. My friend ordered the simple FUDGE SUNDAE and it didn't disappoint. It had a good amount of fudge drizzled on top too. And the ice cream cones put smiles on the other kiddos' faces. Probably because the ice cream itself is creamy and premium tasting. As for the historical scoop: Fair Oaks Pharmacy has gone through a few name and design changes since its establishment. Open for more than a century along Route 66, it was first called the South Pasadena Pharmacy in 1915, then the Raymond Pharmacy in the 20's and 30's. This mom & pop shop finally found its permanent name in the early 40's, which brings us to the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, still open today in 2026. In fact, this year it'll turn 111 years old, so let's all make a wish that Fair Oaks Pharmacy stays open for another century more.

No public restroom so they send me to Starbucks across the street (lining the pockets of Starbucks, which is actually very smart business and they sell far more than just sugary drinks, they're actually a bank, look it up.) 2. The hours make no sense - it's only open during regular peoples work hours (9-5 weekdays), including the pharmacy, which I wanted to switch my regular medication to, but decided not to because it's just too inconvenient. I really like the idea of supporting a classic Americana style ice cream and pharmacy combination business, but it's unfair to offload that responsibility onto customers and expect them totally inconvenience themselves. I suppose American history can perish... Fine!

The shelves are always empty, and they are always out of stock for the most BASIC necessities like milk, popular beverages, eggs, etc. And it is clearly because they are not paying their bills. This is obvious to anyone who's ever worked in retail. They will have a milk or beverage brand and then suddenly stop carrying it and switch to another brand, until that vendor doesn't get paid, then the shelves are empty till they find another vendor, and then stiff them. Embarrassing! DO BETTER! You are a major chain, and yet the mom and pop store down the road can manage to keep their shelves stocked with milk and eggs. I gave it 2 stars, since the staff is usually super cool and helpful, This is obviously coming from further up the ladder.
