Moved to the area and a friend recommended Dr. Pham and I am so glad she did! He was very personable and always made sure to ask me if was experiencing any pain as he was cleaning. He did not rush at all during the cleaning and I definitely see that he does not compromise his care or quality- not matter how busy he is. He took the time to show me the results of my x-ray and explained in laymen's terms what was going on with my teeth and gums. He is very honest gives you both sides of the coin when answering questions. I had asked him about potential teeth whitening and he told me that I have pretty white teeth as it is, so the results might not be worth the extra change it was going to cost. =D The fact that he did not push an easy sale for an unnecessary service shows me that he is very trustworthy. They are rather busy and can be booked out pretty far so I would advise calling in advance to ensure an appointment. read more

Dr. Pham is officially the best dentist I've ever met! I waited to write a review until I had completed two visits with him just to make sure I wasn't being overly generous. I needn't have been so cautious. Dr. Pham has single-handedly renewed my self-esteem when it comes to my teeth and gums; I actually feel like taking better care of my mouth and am flossing more regularly. (Evidently I respond better to positive reinforcement that the angry and disapproving tirades one gets from the usual staff of hygienists and dentists). Dr. Pham is also the first dentist in fifteen years who did not insist that my crowns need replacing. In fact, he is adamant that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them (save some cosmetic flaws) and that he wouldn't work on them, despite my bringing it up during both of my visits. (Perhaps I have become fixated on the idea that they needed replacement after all of my past dentists tried to sell me on the idea - funny how that works!). I would actually drive quite a long way in order to continue seeing Dr. Pham...if I had to. I guess I'm just lucky that I live three minutes away. And lucky that I have a Yelp account that steered me in his direction. I'm returning the favor, all you Yelpers in need of a dentist! read more

Friendly staff! Dr Pham and team are always pleasant during visits. Our kids just started their dental experience, and cannot stop talking about their fun visit. This is largely due to Dr. Pham engaging patients, and really taking time to connect. Even with little people, and not every Dr possess this skill. Our son is still talking about the 'cool' machine used to polish his teeth. Turns out Dr Pham and I grew up in the same city, but never crossed paths until now. It's always a delight to get dental work here. Seems like the unfavorable reviews come from people who are unable to obtain an appointment with Dr Pham. That's unfortunate but still unnecessary to leave unfavorable comments, why not try asking to speak to Dr Pham himself to resolve your matter. Appointments are easy to make, reschedule and obtain last minute. It's been several years since the wife located Dr Pham on yelp, and we're patients for life! read more

Dr. Pham is amazing. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I do not have dental ins. and when I called around to shop quotes, Michelle (Dr. Pham's dental assistant) was very informative, and gave me clear and straight forward responses. Just what I needed, rather than "we can't give you any estimations until we see you." Office is always very busy but they are willing to work with your schedule. I was able to make an apt for consultation the same week! Had my wisdom tooth pulled a few weeks later. Very quick, and little irritation afterwards. Prices are very fair!!!! I paid out-of-pocket and thought it was really reasonable. It cost way more when I had my other wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago with preminum ins. -.- Its nice to walk away with such a great experience at the dentist. Makes you want to return for other services. They did not do any solicitations or up-sell you. He did not even charge me for the consultation or x-ray, just the fee for the tooth extraction. I went to Dr. Pham because of his rave reviews on Yelp and he is as good as everyone says. He is the best dentist I've had to date. He is very gentle and careful when working on your teeth and explains your x-rays in detail along with options for work that needs to be done. He is very honest. Ok, so now I have a dentist finally. Thanks to all of you Yelpers for helping me find Dr. Gem. I put off going to a dentist for years, but not being able to chew on one side put the fear into me. If I waited and this condition worsened, what would it take to fix it? So I went there today and did the cleaning the X-rays and the consult. Turns out I have a cracked tooth and that will need a crown. Thank goodness not a root canal! Also the rest of my teeth are perfect. So I will be getting a crown from Dr. Gem and then seeing him every 6 months or unitl my teeth fall out :) Seriously he is office is super nice, and he is wonderful. You will not be dis-satisfied, and my guess is that if you are, they won't let you leave until you are satisfied. read more

My coworker was aware of what had happened with my last dentist and referred me to Dr. Pham. So, I called and scheduled an initial appt with Him. Dr. Pham is caring and friendly. He did a wonderful job with the cleaning and check-up that he gave me and his staff is excellent. The office has enough privacy and pleasant furnishings to make you feel comfortable. He didn't try to sell me on lots of procedures that I didn't need like so many others have. The best dentist! Ever since we've found this place, we can no longer go anywhere else! They are genuinely kind and caring.

tl;dr -- Staff at times are less than desirable. Pham is worth some of the staff's unsortedness. I'd just like to state that Pham Gem is someone I am happy to encounter, especially as my dentist. I've been going to him for quite a while, and I enjoy my visits--which I hear is rare in regards to dentistry; lucky me. The staff are okay, I guess. If I had to grade based on patterns and consistencies, I'd probably give them a C. This leads me to my reason for posting: Recently, I made an appointment that had to be cancelled because I had to go out of state. My significant other said she would call to cancel, but she said they did not answer their phones the few times she tried to call. I figured it was because they were out to lunch or maybe it was the days they closed at 2PM. I told her not to worry, and that I'll try to reach them--same thing happens; so, I left a message. No response. I get back and tried to call on Friday starting at 1:20PM, no answer. I call a few more times, no answer. I figured they were done for the day because it's Friday and maybe they had no more appointments. So I wait until Monday, I call at 1PM, when I have time, and still nothing. Then I try on Tuesday, no answer, but I decide to leave a message explaining the calls, not thinking it would do anything. Just as I was in the process of calling another dentist's office, I get a call back! She said this was Pham Gem's dentist office... then went silent. I said hello and explained, again, about the times and calls. She said they were at lunch each time, which is strange and didn't account for the Mon, Fri, times, but she sounded like she was edgy, so I decided not to discuss those incidents. I made an appointment, which is a month and a half away, then she notices that I had a prior appointment that I didn't get to make for the above reasons and said that I ditched it in a pretty negative tone. I don't think that's the appropriate word, ditched, but, again, I just want to make my appointment with Pham. She then said bye in the most sarcastic tone, hung up mid bye and didn't wait for a response from me. Apparently, this has happened to a few others that attend his office, but they like Pham a lot, so they deal with it. I want to give a two-star score, strictly based on the staff experiences, but that may slightly mess with Pham's score, and Pham truly is a great person to have as your dentist. I'm just not a fan of the demeanor over the telephone, the telephone "issues," and the way the staff seems to handle a few of their customers. I do not think this applies to all staff members, and experiences vary, but I think this experience should be known, and at the very least on record. Pham Gem is still a 5/5. And I think I will rate this as a 5/5, literally for only Pham. He is that worth it, even with the other unsorted/rude individuals at times. read more

Dr. Gem Pham is probably one of the nicest dentists (if not people) I've ever met. He was recommended to us by a friend, so I expected him to be nice - but wasn't sure how he was going to be as a dentist. I found him to be very fair and very informative. He let me know that there may be some issues with an existing filling that I had - but didn't pressure me to do anything about it. He said that he'd just watch it, and advised me to contact him if I had any issues. I feel he treats me (and my whole family) with care & concern - like a real person. I don't feel like he's just trying to squeeze money out of us with unneeded procedures. So now if he ever DOES say I need dental work, I know it's serious! Not only is Dr. Pham professional, his entire staff is pleasant. It definitely seems like they all like working with him - which speaks volumes. I was going to my old place closer to my home for years, they were amazing! Pricey, but good. Has a few minor hiccups but I never wanted to leave because everyone was so great, until they weren't. We have great benefits but we're still paying $500 for exams & cleanings between our family of 4 (we have a toddler but she hasn't seen the dentist yet, but her appt is next month with dr gem) twice a year. I feel like we were paying for cleanings our of pocket. Dr Gem Pham was recommended by my sister in-law, and he was also in our insurance network, we came, got our teeth cleaned, and didn't pay a dime since our insurance covers our routine cleaning and exams. I like the Dr Pham does the cleaning and spends his time with the patients, at our old office we literally sat with the hygienist for the majority of the appointment and the dentist popped up for a second to say our teeth were ok. I really like this office and the staff, everyone is super nice and professional, Dr Pham complimented my previous work and that they indeed do a great job, but when personalities clash and your blaming your patients for messing appointments, it's not ok. I'm very happy to say this is our new dentist, and he is awesome! Made my appointments for me and my girls & going to the dentist isn't going to leave me broke! Wow! What a great experience! I avoided the dentist for about 5 years. Not because of tooth pain but wallet pain AND I have great insurance. The dentists around Carmel Valley are all about up-selling. Dr. Pham and his assistants are great! Cleaning, x-rays, check up and good to go.I don't mind being sold something when it's necessary. Wow, yelp reviews dentists too! Awesome. This has been my dentist for a few years now. He has been great. He is such a nice guy and very gentle when working with you. Once I was really scared to go in because I had a cut on the side of my lips. I told him about it and he put some numbing cream on there, so that when I had to open my mouth up wide, it didn't hurt. He is definitely not one of those dentists that tries to make money off of you. He always says my teeth look great and he doesn't try to push whitening or any cosmetic stuff.
