I have been a patient of Dr Pham's for many years. He is a very caring man and a very good Dentist.

My wife, kids and I have been going to Dr. Pham for about 15 years. He's a great guy and is very gentile when he's examining your teeth. I would rave to my friends what a good and gentile dentist he is. I have gum issues, bone loss and about 4 missing teeth. On a typical visit, I would have my teeth cleaned by the hygienist and then Dr. Pham would clean my teeth a little more and check for cavities. I'd get x-rays as needed. A few years back he told me that it would be good idea to look into tooth replacement due to my bone loss and missing teeth. He referred me to a tooth replacement center and I felt like they were pressuring me so I declined treatment. I told Dr. Pham about this and he told me that he didn't really like the establishment that he sent me to. He also changed his mind and said I wasn't ready for that yet. Well I was taken aback since he was the one who originally referred me. I kept going to Dr. Pham for regular visits and lost yet another tooth. Lately, my teeth have been so loose that my smile looks a little different. The last time I came in for a check up he barely touched my teeth because of their fragility. Ok, then why didn't he urge me to look into tooth replacement again? Why did he stop measuring where my bone line receded to? I really feel he dropped the ball on my dental treatment and hope no one goes through what I've experienced. Over the last few weeks, I've been shopping around for a tooth replacement company that does all-on-4 full mouth tooth replacements. All 3 firms told me I should've had this done a couple of years ago when my underlying bone had more mass. I wish Dr. Pham would've urged me to look into tooth replacement again instead of stringing me along while my underlying bone loss just kept getting worse. Now, I'm going to get all of my teeth removed, gums treated, bone grafted and new teeth inserted while my chances for success have been diminished. The last thing I want to do is write a scathing review. Especially for someone as nice as Dr. Pham. But I just don't want anyone else to have a similar experience. read more

I've been a patient of Dr Pham's since I moved to San Diego 6 years ago, and it's been a great experience. Thankfully, I rarely have dental problems but I'm sure this office can handle anything with ease. The staff are wonderful - everything is handled quickly and efficiently while still having a personal touch. All the equipment seems modern, which isn't something I can say about all the dentists I've seen. Also unlike other dentists, I've never been upsold (or even offered) additional services that aren't covered by insurance. If all you need is a cleaning and an X-Ray, that's all you'll receive and all you'll pay for. Dr. Pham himself is very personable and always ends visits by asking if there's anything I'd like to ask of if there's anything else he can do. I can't remember ever seeing or hearing another patient (including kids) who was dissatisfied while I was there. He seems genuinely interested when talking with you and conversations don't feel like a string of mandatory small talk. My husband has been going to Dr. Pham for years. I went for my first appointment today. My husband is correct - Dr. Pham is not only an excellent dentist, but is is super kind, fun, and gives an honest assessment. My prior dentist recommended thousands of dollars of unnecessary work, while Dr. Pham said my teeth looked great and didn't recommend anything at this time. Dr. Pham is the best dentist I've ever had! He is so kind and honest and doesn't try to sell you unnecessary services like most dentists do (that's why I left my last one). My entire family sees him, including my 3 and 4 year old. No need to pay extra for a pediatric dentist when you can have Dr. Pham!! When my daughter face planted hard last year at an indoor gym and busted her lip (she was only 3 at the time), I called them frantically because I was worried about her top teeth falling out and/or future trauma to her developing adult teeth since her gums were all bloody. Within an hour and a half of the fall, my daughter was in the chair with Dr. Pham looking her over giving me reassurance, telling me what I can expect in the future regarding her top teeth and telling me what warning signs to look for in the coming weeks. He really set my mind at ease and made my sad girl happy! We always look forward to going to his office and I'm totally serious when I say that! My kids especially are always so excited to see him! I've had some dodgy dental insurance that would only cover dentists who did nothing but try to up sell me on procedures I didn't even need. I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Pham when he worked at another practice on Balboa Ave over in Clairmont. My insurance changed and would no longer cover me with DR. Pham. Ever since I've been waiting to go back to him. 10 years later the wife has a great job with Sony and awesome insurance that covers the whole family and we could now go back to Dr. Pham! I couldn't be more thrilled to go back and take our boys there as well. The receptionist and the other people working there are friendly and great as well. I asked him about teeth whitening and he told me that the crest whitening strips worked almost as well as the zoom service that dentists sell. The BEST Dentist ever! I called Dr. Pham's office on a Saturday because I had severe pain (which kept me awake for hours) in one of my teeth. First thing Monday morning his office called me back and had me come in when they opened. Dr. Pham discovered I needed a root canal and said I should've called him and he would've seen me over the weekend. He relieved me of the pain and put a temp in. A few weeks later, I went in to complete the root canal process. If I could give him and his staff 10 stars I would! I literally cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Pham. We could sit here all day and I'd still be listing off new reasons as to why he's the best dentist ever. Let me be totally clear. I hate doctors. It's not doctors' faults, it's because I hate anyone who might poke or prod me or tell me I'm gonna die in 3 hours. I know how unlikely that is with a dentist, but trust me, if you think hard enough, a near-death scenario is always conceivable. I LOVE going to Dr. Pham. I literally insist on it every 6 months when I come home from University. I can't believe I'm about to say these words, but when I know my dentist appointment is around the corner, I ACTUALLY get EXCITED. Not only is his staff filled with friendly, talkative people who are always willing to help and answer any questions (as stupid as they may seem, and believe me, I have some stupid questions). The office is decked out in cool cycling pictures and a pretty awesome wall decal / sculpture (have to love a doctor who personalizes his office!). It's surprisingly easy to manage a full conversation with him by the end of your appointment. I'll be moving to Los Angeles in September, and I still have every intention of returning to San Diego to see Dr. Pham. And visit my mom, of course - but make no mistake, there IS an alterior motive. Having feared the dentist since I was in highschool, I was hesitant about coming in. He calmed me down and his staff was amazing. We found out the issue with why I didn't like the dentist was the fact that the numbing medicine didn't work on me as well as a normal person. He sounds like a good dentist, and I tried to set up an appointment based on these reviews, but his receptionist staff sound incompetent. I had to repeat myself multiple times, then was told they only take PPO insurance. I hang up, verified that I have PPO, called them back, and I don't know what they did with the information I gave them 1 minute ago, but they wanted me to give them everything all over again. Not wanting to go over this again, I ask to simply let me send them an email with my information. It's in text, nothing to screw up or repeat, plain as day and efficient - they wouldn't have it. They want me to sit on the phone at work and verbally repeat information I had already given them a couple of minutes ago. They tell me that this is the only way they do it, or else I can go somewhere else, which is fine with me. Would have liked to give them business, but, from the simple phone conversations, this is not staff that I would want to work with. Edit: Well, I'm going to have to rub it in - I just called another nearby dentist's office (Joe Nguyen) with great ratings on Yelp, and I didn't have any of the problems I had with these people at Pham's office. That dentist's office give me an appointment only 2 weeks away, I was given the Dentist's direct email address so I could forward my old dentist's files to him, and the receptionist at that office was super chill and competent. Took down my info correctly and was super helpful. Again, from the other Yelp reviews, I'm sure Pham is a good dentist, but the ditsy girls at the front office aren't any help to his business. He raised the price of a cleaning from $75 to $110. That's a 47% price increase!!! I was just in his office today, and the cleaning took less than half an hour. I guess $150/hour/chair wasn't enough for him, he need $220/hour/chair. I'll be going with a more reasonably priced dentist in the future. Dr. Pham is the best I have been going to him for about 9-10 years. Excellent service no pressure and he really cares about his customers. One time I had a dental emergency in the middle of the night and he opened the office at 2:00 am to help me. I was in so much pain!!! When I was a kid I ate so much candy and had so many cavities my parents will take me to the dentist very often and it was a horrible experience. Let's face it, there are a lot of capable dentists in San Diego. What differentiates them from each other are mainly: 1- Co$t of treatment even with insurance. 2- Appointment availability/ Schedule flexibility 3- Chair side manners 4- Friendliness of receptionists/staff (notice I said friendliness, not phoniness). With Dr. Pham, you don't get the complimentary coffee, the granola bars, the vitamin water, the TV on the ceiling, the headphones, the latest magazine, the goody bag filled with edible lime-berry toothpaste and the bendiest Crest toothbrush. The office is not plastered with framed vanity shots of him and his family posing on the beach. You don't get a million recommendations from him about a retainer, a whitening and a tooth implant... And for all of that, I say THANK YOU Dr. Pham for keeping things SIMPLE. And also because, unlike other practices, you are not making us pay for the extravagant decor and unnecessary treats. Noteworthy: - I've been seeing him for 1.5 years now. Had an onlay, a filling, X-rays and cleaning done. - I had a treatment plan with prices from another dentist. I showed it to Dr. Pham and they ran the numbers for the SAME treatments and it was HALF the price with Dr. Pham. Go figure!! - He does the cleaning himself which gives you an opportunity to see him or ask questions everytime you go for a cleaning unlike some practices who express annoyance when you say you have a question for the dentist after a cleaning. read more

I found Dr Pham on yelp and decided to give his office a try. It's been a couple of years since I had my last teeth cleaning so I was pretty nervous since my teeth are super sensitive to cleanings. And the verdict is ... Dr Pham and his office staff are AWESOME!!! Like many others have said, him and his staff are extremely nice, professional and polite. They walk you through the whole entire process of what they're going to do next and they ALWAYS make sure you're okay. Even when the girl was taking my x-ray she made sure each time she inserted the film thingy into my mouth that it didn't hurt me. Dr Pham did the cleanings himself, using both the vibrating pic thingy and manually cleaning my teeth. The dental assistant did the polishing and flossing. While Dr Pham worked on my teeth he would talk about things we had common. So he really tries to get to know his patients! I asked him about these little holes I have in my molars and he told me it's from me grinding my teeth and not to worry about them. All my previous dentist said it was a cavity and wanted to fill it up. I knew it wasn't a cavity since the hole wasn't growing or turning black. He said if he were to fill it up, I will grind the hole open again. Not only is Dr Pham super awesome, he is very knowledgeable and honest. The one thing I did notice about his office is that it's not very modern compared to others I've been to but didn't really bother me as he got the job done perfectly without the latest gadgets. His office is very basic, clean, no frills and nothing overly fancy. I had insurance so I didn't have to pay for my visit. So I assume he keeps his office like this to keep his prices reasonable for people who have to pay out of pocket. I actually look forward to my next visit with Dr Pham! read more

I hesitate writing this review since I don't want more people finding out about Dr. Pham. He really is the best. I haven't been to the dentist in 3 years because I was so turned off by my last place (Gentle Dental in Sorrento Valley). The dentists were fine but they always made me wait forever and encouraged procedures that didn't seem necessary (like deep cleaning every time). Dr. Pham didn't keep me waiting at all, his staff was very friendly and genuine, and Dr. Pham really took the time to explain what he was doing. Is it possible for a dentist to be to nice and polite? Dr. Pham is the real thing. Very nice, professional all and spends real time with his patients (impressive in these days when the dentist is too busy to talk to their patents). I had all my kids there and the staff was great and my kids walked away having liked the experience - major victory. No, this isn't one of those places with hi-tech tools, video man for kids, flat screen TVs, etc. the office instead is affordable and efficient. I must say, I am reluctant to review Dr. Pham for the fear that many more people will go to him and make it impossible for me to visit him. I must say how much I love going to him. Not so much for the dentistry but for him and his staff. I love Kay and Michelle. They are great. I've been going to them ever since I was a kid. Its almost like a second family to me. To say he changed my life is an understatement. Which I don't need to get into but lets just say he works miracles. He always asks if "are you okay?" "does that hurt?" during his procedures... He really wants to make sure you are doing okay. I don't know what I'd do without him. He has come in on a weekend just to help me out during an emergency. He truly is a kind soul and I thank gosh for him. Its too bad that he only accepts PPO... when I had HMO I never went and actually ended up paying just to keep him. While there are reviewers out there that say he is expensive, yes, it is a bit expensive but the service and treatment you get in the long run from his staff and he is memorable. Otherwise I would've never stayed with him for over 10 years!! People to say that I love Dr. Pham and his staff is an understatement of the century. He is phenomenal and really cares about his patients. Sometimes there can be a rush but if you really get to know him and his staff, you'll realize what a really great office this is. Today was my first visit to Dr. Pham and I was very happy with my appointment! (hence my 5 star rating) I had booked my appointment about 3 weeks ago (decided to give him a try based on all the great Yelp reviews!) I had been a patient of Dr. Bialick's in La Jolla before, as the company I had insurance with covered my visits there, plus was recommended by my boss at the time. Well 2 yrs back I stopped being covered for dental so went without cleanings... called my original dentist first just recently to see what they charge for out of pocket cost for a cleaning and ouch! Close to $300 for xrays etc. Decided to look on yelp for something closer to home and called a few places and the staff's tone just over the phone was very helpful, genuine and welcoming. Wanted to wait until after my visit to write a review, so had my visit earlier today and the whole staff was great! Very friendly and personable. I'm usually a big weenie when it comes to going to the dentist (I have a sensitive mouth/low pain tolerance) and Dr Pham and his assistant didn't hurt me at all and were very thorough in explaining everything they were doing. Even as nice to keep asking "you doing ok? Let me know if you need anything" plus for xrays, cleaning and exam it was only $75 for out of pocket cost! Very reasonable compared to some of the other places I had called around to. One things for sure, I'll definitely be going back (my husband goes in next Fri) :) read more

The nicest dentist and staff ever! They make you feel very comfortable right from the beginning. They provide HONEST and QUALITY service at very affordable rates, even without insurance (They'll work with you). Waiting line is non-existent, and Dr. Pham Gem knows what he's doing. You can tell they care, not in a business way to make more "sales" and get more money out of you, but they genuinely care about their customers and nothing matters but the patient's health.
