Unprofessional and rude staff, specially the grooming salon manager Tina, who wanted to charge me an extra fee for late appointment, for being "6 minutes late" as my dog had to stop outside the store to poop. I will never come back and I don't recommend if you truly care about your dog. If they're rude like that in front of a dog owner, I won't trust them with my dog behind the doors. I have talked to Petsmart manager and she apologized and said no fee should be applied for 15 minutes delays. No excuses for the Grooming Salon manager. read more

He had a few knots, but his body was not completely knotted. She shaved my poor dog completely to the point that you can see his skin. I was charged $140 for what!!! BEWARE when booking appointments at this location. Booked over a week ago on-line, filled out health questionnaire at that time. Got to my appointment and they cancelled on the spot! They wanted my dog to have an "express" appointment instead due to a heart murmur and would not honor my appointment. They had all this information to review but I was told they "DON'T review pet's information". This was my first visit to a PetSmart Groomer. My other dog got groomed for years with a heart murmur, no issues and without an "express" visit, at another groomer, but has since passed. This is my 4th dog so I'm experienced with their care. However, when my apartment flooded and I booked an appointment over the phone they called the next day and told me they couldn't see me because the appointment was set up wrong for her breed. They seemed unwilling to help me with the situation, and not see me just because of a wrong appointment setup. I frequented this groomer since 2004 with an older cocker spaniel. I made an appointment to drop him off in the morning for a bath and cut. The groomer named Lynn looked in the computer and said to the dog "why are you so mean?' She refused to cut and bathe him. I had never had a complaint about him before. He had been there several times. The cocker spaniel passed and I have a pug now. I brought her in for about two years for her nail grind. One day a new employee tried to grind her nails, I was told the dog was out of control and she couldn't do the grind? Again never heard this before all good interactions. In fact the person who usually took care of her and told me how cute she was said she has had nothing but trouble with her. There is a window so I have watched the grind. No trouble ever. Please do not hesitate to bring your pups here. The love my puppy Jax felt the second he walked into the facility was incredible. It is so rare to find individuals who truly love and are passionate about their careers, but this is exactly what you find at PetSmart in Watchung, NJ. Jax's groomer, Krystal, might possibly be one of the most pleasant individuals I have ever met. She matched my puppies excitement at meeting a new person, and made us feel completely at ease. She explained the process as this was his first grooming, did a thorough and gentle visual check of Jax's coat, teeth, etc. and then confirmed what they would do according to his breed. She also asked if there was anything additional we needed done. When we picked up Jax (at the EXACT time she said he would be done! Incredible timing!), they looked as though they had formed a special bond, and my little furry friend looked and smelled lovely and was strutting around showing off his new haircut and bandana. Seriously, this team is incredible. My only complaint is that there was a lot of fur on the floor, but I won't deduct a star just yet, as it was the end of the day. I'll update if this remains the same, because we will DEFINITELY BE BACK! The other groomers in the room were equally as friendly and loving. PetSmart is a bit different from what I'm used to. (My experience has been more with PetCo.) PetSmart has a little more warehouse-ish vibe to it, not that the "vibe" is really relevant to this review. So, the main positive to PetSmart was the variety of different dog foods that they had. They had a lot of Blue Buffalo (including at least one variety that I hadn't seen before). They also had a ton of Nutro (which my dog doesn't seem to like for some reason, but which has a good reputation as far as I know). They also had a fair selection of Wellness, and a small selection of Castor & Pollux. I didn't look to hard at them, but it seemed like they also had a good variety of foods like Pedigree, Alpo, Iams, Hill's Science Diet, etc. The staff was also very friendly, which is nice. There were two major negatives in my opinion. The first was that I couldn't seem to find Merrick anywhere. To be fair, I didn't ask for help finding it, but if they did have it, they couldn't have had much. I looked through all of the dog food aisles. This wasn't a huge deal for me, as this PetSmart is a little further than I would typically go for my every day pet store. Otherwise, it would be a big issue. As far as I know, there is no other dog food with a reputation for being healthy that offers such a wide array of creative dog foods. Since my dog is spoiled, and will not eat the same food over and over again, having odd varieties like Hawaiian Luau, Turducken, Brauts & Tots, etc. is very helpful. The other major detractor for this store, in my opinion, was that they really seemed to showcase unhealthy options for foods, treats, and even tooth / breath care. It's not a huge deal, since they had most of the healthy alternatives, too. You just weren't going to find them in the front of the store or on end caps. read more

Amazing place for grooming. No need to look anywhere else. Upon much research and inquiries for dog grooming places that were not super crowded, allowing lots of dogs at once, I have come across mobile dog grooming. With crazy wait times and unreliable or lack there of reviews for local mobile dog grooming places, I stumbled upon petsmart. Hesitant at first, I tested out the nail trimming. Wow amazing job and wonderful customer service. My golden retriever puppy hasn't been properly socialized due to the pandemic. Watching Petsmart gets 5 stars. There curbside pickup is NOT trustworthy. I ordered a guinea pig, which I needed by today, for curbside pickup. The website said that the product was in stock, and confirmed my order. An hour later it was cancelled because they gave away the last cage I ordered. I then emailed their customer service, which is AWFUL and they said they couldn't get back to me in another 3 DAYS. So now I need to wait a couple more days for the cage I wanted to arrive from CHEWY, which by the way is an awesome website for your pets needs. I'm not even happy to give this location a one star review. Really deserves zero stars after the times I've came to this place. I brought my puppy Lucky to the grooming salon. Booked online for a BATH service and had my boyfriend drop Lucky off and when they ask questions about what extras i'd like for Lucky to tell them the Oatmeal shampoo that they always suggest when they ask "Would you like to add the Oatmeal or Tropical Shampoo" etc whatever different scents they have. Well they didn't ask him anything. He had to let them know about the oatmeal shampoo and told they to cut around his eyes because it was getting hard for Lucky to see. BAM dropped him off. When I come to pick Lucky up I see the receipt says "Full Service Groom total: $87" I was confused because I never asked for a full service? I asked to get around his eyes cut like they always do to lucky when I come for a BATH. I asked the groomer how is it $87 when Lucky never got a full body haircut and she said they cut around his face AND cut his legs. I never asked for Lucky to get his legs cut down?? Matter of fact how does that equal a full service groom? So i ended up paying the amount because it was closing time and I needed to get a good look at how Lucky looked. I saw him and my anger went away because I was happy to see him looking all clean. I got home and lucky seemed upset. I started to check him out and noticed his testicles were red as if he had a razor burn, he didn't want me even touching them or even trying to put aloe on them. That's never happened before. Point is from $30 that I was supposed to pay to $87 the bill came out to for supposedly a "Full service groom" where his body wasnt even touched, I don't even believe his legs were cut because they are the SAME, I would of wanted a whole body haircut if that's what I knew I was paying. I don't recommend this place, this is the second time they let me down and Lucky comes home upset. I don't plan on coming to this grooming salon AT ALL. 5 stars for my favorite pet store to get all things cat! LOL I love getting to see people dogs when I shop there, and all the animals that are either up for adoption, or up for sale! This store always has the cat food we buy, as well as a HUGE selection of cat toys. Have tried the competition down the road and not found their cat section as big as Pet Smarts. The warehouse-style store, located in the lower part of the Watchung Mall, seems to have a wide selection of products (including some natural food) and is well-stocked. The employees, to a person, seem to be animal lovers and, at the same time, professionals who are able to connect well with other people (i.e. their customers). It's a safe guess that there is good management at work here. Based on that customer experience as described, we had expected that our experience at two of the other enterprises within the store -- the veterinarian services ("Banfield Pet Hospital") and the cat "adoption" service (presumably made of volunteers). We were wrong. We'll start with the latter. Now, there are few things more noble than trying to improve the lives of helpless creatures, many of which have been abandoned and even abused, and that is presumably their mission. And we all know that "cat people" are a breed apart, in some cases even reserving their entire well of empathy and affection for their cats, with none left for their members of their species. The cats are perhaps somewhat fortunate to have such advocates -- but to fellow humans, I say, beware. I'm guessing these folks have seen too much abuse (to the cats they are handling) to behave toward potential adoptive families with what most would consider to be a minimum level of respect and manners. Instead, it will, shockingly, become your challenge to prove that you will not purposely hurt the cat if you adopt it (and with my POV as a professional family with two kind little girls). It is a unique experience to be grilled this way and by such people, so if you are interested in adopting a cat, brace yourself to be (what nice people would call) insulted. Also, it is helpful to know (according to a worker called "Tina") that adopters are required to sign a contract governing your relationship with the cat, including an oath that you will not let the cat outside, ever -- even if you live in a rural area with lots of acres. Our family happened to adopt a barn cat (not from this group) over a year ago, which freely went through the cat door in and out, had the time of its life for a year. When the first frost came, the cat went outside for an hour, and had a sudden, instant heart attack -- apparently this is actually common in certain breeds -- which the vet told us only after this happened (when we were investigating the cause of death of this perfectly happy cat)! Needless to say we were quite sad, and waited several months before deciding to adopt a pair of cats, so that they might provide enough amusement for each other that they would not clamor to go outside). When we explained all this to the cat lady, she looked shocked and started mumbling that (Petsmart's) visiting room was being renovated so we couldn't visit with the cats and they were all spoken for anyway. While I do sympathize with her perspective, it would have been appropriate for her to also acknowledge that a family had gone through something sad here. Also, if her group had a rule against allowing people to adopt cats if their last cats died, then they could simply state that in a matter of fact way, rather than attempting to berate them, or dump some emotional baggage on some strangers who they happen to have access to and some power over at that moment. I include all of this in a review for petsmart for 2 reasons: 1. Petsmart allows this cat shelter to operate from its premises, and 2. by doing so Petsmart does therefore not sell kittens or cats as they do dogs and other creatures, which at this point would be easier and less unpleasant. The ideal would be that the cat shelter continued to operate as it does but only after the workers or volunteers are trained not to insult Petsmart's customers (and we are good ones). The Banfield review will be shorter. 1. After the cat mentioned above caught a cold -- sneezing, yucky eyes, etc. -- we made an appointment and brought him to Banfield for treatment. We got there at the appointed time -- and literally waited in line for hours to see their staff! There were about 20 people on line with the same appointment time (all being exposed to the other animals' ailments). 2. When I finally talked with the attendant or vet, I explained that I only wanted the cat to be treated for the cold, no other shots or deworming poisons he was trying to sell us on--I said we might come back to get that done after the cat had recuperated from this cold. He said he understood, and then explained that he had to take the cat in the back area, where the "adoptive parents" (in this context I suppose we were the pet owners) were not allowed. 5 minutes later, we get the cat and the bill for around $300 which included all the shots and tests that we specifically asked him NOT to perform -- including a test for worms that was negative, along with worm poison! Since then I've learned that Scotch Plains Animal Hospital is the local favorite. read more

When I arrived there was no record of my appt, they couldn't accommodate me, & they couldn't check to see if maybe it was scheduled for a previous night because they only keep paper records and it was purged. I then attempted to get contact info for the district and regionals mangers and the store manager told me he could not give me that info and I should just check the website. Asked a guy there to help me get a pet rat. He agreed to help, but put on gloves and told me about how he doesn't like rats because he got bit by one once. Then he proceeds to shove his arm in the tank and roughly try to grab the rats in there. The rats are clearly freaked out (more than usual because they're skittish prey animals) and leap out of his hands and get loose in the store. Well, it's no wonder you got bit- you don't know how to handle small animals properly, idiot. read more

We recently had our Golden Retriever groomed by Petsmart, including a bath, nail clipping, toothbrush and haircut. We dropped him off for his 11am appointment 15min. early. I was informed that he would be ready for pick up around 4pm and that we would receive a call. At 4pm they called to inform me that our dog was very nervous and it would take a little longer to complete his work. I suggested that we could come immediately even if the work was not completed, but was assured that he would be ok and ready for pick up shortly. Around 5pm I was called to pick up my dog. All this being said, his haircut was a disaster. Looks like a total hack job. There are also two spots where he was cut by the clippers and bleed. I am thinking this accident most likely caused him to become "very nervous". Several days later he developed skin irritation, probably from not being completely rinsed following his shampoo. I asked why they didn't shampoo following his haircut vs. before and was told that this wasn't their policy. His teeth are still dirty. His "doggy report card indicated, "she is a nice dog". It's hard to believe they can't figure out that my 70# pup is a boy. We will never return to Petsmart and hope that every pet lover chooses a better groomer. read more

A couple of words about the store: it's big, it's clean, it's well organized, and the staff couldn't be more helpful or bigger animal lovers. I have mainly gone here to have my schnoodle groomed. The first time we went, Lynn did a terrific job, and she's the person I've asked to do it since, although I imagine that the other groomers are skilled, too. The groomers ask detailed questions about how customers want their dog trimmed or shaved, and they treat the dogs very affectionately and carefully. My dog was a tangled mess when I brought him in today, and although I usually like his hair left a bit longer, I agreed that he needed to be shaved (otherwiser the brush-out would have been very painful). Lynn did a great job of shaving him while not making him look too bald, leaving enough on his face and ears to keep him looking adorable. Normally my dog hates to be groomed, but when I picked him up I could tell that it was as unstressful an experience as it could have been for him. High marks for this grooming spot! read more
