Though I walked in at 8:40 PM, near close at 9:00, I expected decent service and respect. I walked straight to the fish section, as I planned on purchasing a female molly and platy pair. I expected to get quick, kind service before 9:00 PM. Instead, I got little notice. As I waited, and waited, and waited, it inched closer to the dreaded hour. With an overhead notice that "it is 8:__, the store will be closing at 9:00 PM and will reopen at 9:00 tomorrow" warnings, I waited for service, as Skylar, an employee being trained was helping another customer. A slow Carolyn moseyed around the fish section with no clear purpose. I expected her to stop and help, but she did not, so I asked if she would grab some fish for me, starting with a question, "Do you have any female mollies?" Her response surprised me, "I am not sure which ones are females. I am not a fish expert." She proceeded to call for other employees, one informing her that the females have "an additional fin," which she then informed me. I looked in the tanks for these female fish, expecting that she would help. Without any luck of finding such, I asked to just get the platies instead. As she motioned Skylar to come to my assistance, after moaning and groaning about some missing cart that she blamed Skylar for, she proceeded to inform Skylar of my needs. Mid-sentence, she cuts herself off. She says, "I forgot an important step," motioning to Skylar, "What size tank do you have?" When I responded with "20 gallons," she proceeded to grill me with how many fish and what kinds I had, an annoying and time consuming task. After my questionnare, I expected her to offer to fulfill my request for platies, but she instead wondered off. I waited, again, for Skylar, who had the chance to help me, after the hour struck nine, with a final overhead notice. She was helpful, but noticeably new. After we finished in the fish section, I headed to the counter where I was informed that I needed to be over 18 to purchase a fish, which I am. The lady, Nancy, continued to inform me about fish, suggesting that I had never owned such before. After being cashed out, I headed for the door, just as ready to leave as all the employees seemed for me to be. This notion was confirmed when Nancy said "I'll have to unlock it for you, we closed ten minutes ago." Next time I have aquatic needs, I will try somewhere with friendlier staff and more tactful practices. read more
