Wow.. I had the best experience once again. I share time between Norway and Los Angeles during the year and my son could not depart LA with out taking our dear Chloe (little crazy chihuahua) with us. I was naive in the process needed to fly our dear pet. In less than 10 min. they googled and obtained the needed requirements from both the airline and Norway to get us through this mission. We were scheduled with the in house Vet who got us in even though all appointments were full. This gave the opportunity to obtain the needed credentials needed for our son to fly with Chloe. I can't begin to count how many times I come into this PetSmart to get something and they're out of it. Last night I came in for Fresh Step Low Tracking Litter and the shelves were empty. In the past I've come in for specific canned food for my cat only to find it out of stock. NOTE: THIS POST IS ON 11-14-17 I edited an older post from 2014... After getting our dogs groomed here several times over the past 3 years, something went horribly wrong. We took our long-haired dogs in for a trim the other day and the groomer, without calling, asking or getting our input, just decided to shear our beautiful, wooly Siberian Husky. When they brought him out of the back, I didn't even think that they had the right dog! 1) He is a Husky. They are not supposed to be sheared. A groomer should know that. 2) It is November. We live part-time in the mountains in the cold and snow. 3) Really?!! When I picked him up, the groomer was no where to be found. Shocking. She knew that she screwed up my pooch. The manager on duty half-apologized while trying to defend the groomer. What they did to my dog, however, is indefensible. I got my money back, but I want my dog back the way that he was. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen. I just wanted to get this out there, so people can see this and make informed decisions about where to go and who to trust for their pet's care. We love our local Pet Smart! Our dog has taken training classes with Lisa, has visited the groomers and is a frequent attendee of the Doggie Day Camp and PetsHotel. It's such a relief to have such a good boarding option close by. It's hard to leave your pet when heading out on vacation, especially with a little kid who's attached to its hip. However a seeing how excited our dog is every time we pull into the parking lot and having her pull us inside with happiness eases our minds. Highly recommend! read more

I checked my puppy into the PetSmart Pet Hotel for the weekend and bought him a private suite as well as "The Gold Package". I don't know what they did to him but when I picked him up, he was lethargic, had terrible diarrhea and kennel cough. I highly recommend avoiding this place if you care about your dog. read more

Guy I spoke to on the phone was rude, didn't do what I specifically asked him to. I asked him to open an item before I drove 8+ miles to buy a broken filter, luckily it wasn't considering he didn't open it at all after I asked. I tried returning my previous filter that was bought at the El Segundo location and he refused to return it since it wasn't from this location, which is clearly fine to return in the return policy. Here is a review that my little pup Tobi wanted me to do for him... you know... since he has paws and it's actually pretty hard for him to type, I volunteered to type it for him while he dictates... Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, meow! Yes! Not sure why he makes that sound but he makes a meow sound when he yawns! What a funny dog! This is his absolute favorite place (but not next door where Banfield Hospital resides)... Lots of toys and treats in every Aisle! Look here! Squeeky toys And there! Treats after treats after treats! (Tobi looks at me... can I get that & that& that please?) And what's this... collars galore! Tobi was thinking of upgrading his blings! And wow! Just like Costco for humans... there are vendors here giving out free samples of dog food and treats! (you know tobi is not gonna let that pass) Hey Tobi! Stop peeing on the shelves! Now I gotta get cleaning....... Whatever you want for your little furry friend (or feathery, scaley, slimy, etc...) you can find them all here! They will all thank you for it! TL;DR - Pet boarding... no. Just don't do it guys. As a a result of a last minute emergency, we had to leave our baby here for the dog boarding. Everything looked ok. The facility looked clean, and the pets that came out seemed content. So our hearts were put a little at ease. We called once to check in on her and see if she had adjusted. They said she was happy and everything was great. However, when we went to pick her up, her actions told a different story. She went crazy. Like.... she hadn't been played with in days. (even though we payed for doggy day care each day) I felt so bad because she was so frazzled. We payed and then got a "report card" for her stay. It said that she was well socialized, ate well and went to the bathroom regularly. I think that report card is complete bs. First of all, she would not eat. At all. We brought her home and she wouldn't touch her food. Even with treats in it. She didn't eat for a day and a half. Finally, I caved in and hand fed her and she gobbled it all up. What the heck did they do to her? Also, she started growling at dogs. I mean aggressive, pulling on the leash, teeth snarled growling :/ this kinda behavior really worries me. I've left her with other boarding services before and she has always come back normal..... Also, kinda shady how I asked the guy if she ate and he said she was eating breakfast.... We picked her up at noon. She should not be eating breakfast at noon... read more

WARNING: BEWARE OF THE GROOMING SALON. Took my dog to the PetSmart grooming salon at this location exactly a week ago. The staff was friendly and professional so I thought my dog was in good hands. We get a voice-mail a few hours later telling me there's been an accident, that my dog is bleeding and they rushed him over to the pet hospital. We call them and they say they have everything under control and to pick him up. We get there, my dog's nipple was caught in their razor while trimming his hair and his chest was bleeding. Aside from that, he had razor burns on his front paws. PetSmart paid for it but the vet bill was a few hundred dollars. They also covered the cost of his meds. It's been 6 days and my dog is an emotional wreck. He doesn't leave his bed, I had to put a cone on his head so he doesn't lick his wounds and he's not going to the bathroom like normal. Their grooming salon is always busy, and I would hope my experience isn't a norm around there, but I'll NEVER take my dog there for a haircut again. AND they charged me for his haircut. PetsHotel: Horrible experience with manager Rodney. Too much to say about his bad attitude but not worth the time for me or apparently his manager. It took 1:20 for check in because Rodney was not in the mood to do his job. I took my dog to the Ontario PetsHotel 4 days later and it took less than 5 minutes for check in. This PetSmart carries male rats whereas other locations nearby only carry females. However, this is not a good location for small animals. First, the rodent area was really loud, which is not a good environment for many rodents that have sensitive hearing. Their cages are right next to the loud birds and under the store speakers that play music all day. In the process of checking out the rats, I noticed that one of the males had a patchy back, which I now know is a symptom for ringworm. However, at the time, the sales associate told me it was because the male is young and still getting his fur in. I eventually purchased a rat (not the patchy fur one) at this PetSmart, which did turn out to have ringworm, and I myself am infected, too. Thank goodness that ringworm's worst symptom is itchiness. But, I now really question the guarantee that PetSmart puts on the boxes that say all small animals are checked by a vet to ensure good health. Update: After this review, I wrote this PetSmart a letter about the ringworm, and the manager wrote back to say that they took actions to thoroughly clean the cages, and took the rats to the vet. He also apologized, and offered to reimburse me for the cost of my rats' vet visit and medication. I took up the manager's offer since the vet cost me like a month's worth of groceries. I also went back to the store to do a little investigating. Sure enough, the rats were off the sales floor, and there was a sign next to the other animals saying that they were temporarily not for sale because of a health concern. I also think that the rats really went to the vet's (instead of being snake food) because I caught the manager returning from the vet's office with a bird. So, it seems like they do take the animals to the vet, and I really appreciate that. read more

After my dog died, (my mom "accidently" left the door open aka. she killed my dog!) anyway I came back to Petsmart to return the brush I had gotten my now deceased dog. R.I.P Sparkles. Basically--this place is clean, somewhat empty, fully staffed and pretty much the hang out spot for animals & their owners. Had I brought my non-diseased dog (Peanut) she would have enjoyed barking at the other dogs (even though she's the size of my thigh) and the free treats they leave out (I think they're free). Did you know they have a hotel for dogs in this place? Yeah I was pretty surprised and confused. I found this out because I decided to take a stroll around the store because I hadn't before--I was getting a little reminiscent of my dog, I needed to walk off the tears--you know. So towards the back of the store I saw the hotel, it's pretty legit. But also very empty, so if you plan on leaving your pet here they'll be lonely (I'm assuming). What else and they have a hospital, dog/cat training, and pet adoptions here! Basically this is your one stop shop for your pet. You can find me hanging out here with my dog Peanut on random days. So once again i went to this store and i now only go for the prescription food and that's only because i have no choice it's easier the going to the vet. Today i got my normal and the kid working the cash register was like a robot, he asked if i needed a bag and i said of course i don't think i can carry 30 cans of cat food and the bag of dry. And one bag of frozen dog food. After he rang me up i asked him to read everything he had made an error!! With out even counting the items he just basically told me it's correct and instead of arguing i just went out to the car and checked my receipt he had charged me for 2 bags of frozen dog food!!! An overcharge of almost 35 dollars and he could have cared less!!!!! This is ridiculous i suggest to any person going to this store do not trust most of the cashiers, double check your receipts they make tons of errors and overcharge! Apparently by the stores reviews they don't really care and it's just getting worse. And the homeless people they allow to camp in their parking lot is horrible. read more

We took our first dog (who was returned to shelter twice before we got her) for lessons. It was a good experience to complete in their group dog class. Although our dog didn't learn all the lessons 100%, it was still a helpful experience. The teachers were very helpful and patient. Kudos to them. We frequent this Petsmart to get dog food, snacks and to have the dogs get to see all the little critters and dogs in the daycare. The place is clean, staff are super friendly and helpful. My huband and I purchased our tortoise from here. We didn't have a clue about taking care of a tortoise, but we were really very eager to have one of our own. We purchased books, did some research and consulted some of our friends that had tortoises about how to care for one. Within the second week of receiving our tortoise, we noticed that his eyes were really watery. He started to vomit the food that we were feeding him and he was not as active as he was when we first brought him home. We took him back to the store to get advice, and one of the managers there didn't know how to take care of him, but offered to help us find out what was wrong with him. This manager went to the extent of finding a reliable vet. The vet diagnosed our tortoise with a cold and perscribed him with some antibiotics. The manager that we dealt with made sure that we knew what was going on and took great care of our tortoise. They kept him under surveilance for a few days and made sure that he took his medication. They took really great care of him until he was 100% better. My husband and I visited him to make sure that our tortoise was recovering nicely, and the people who worked there were nothing but friendly and courteous. I have been to other pet stores, but have not encountered one that has great customer service like this one. The people are friendly, they're helpful and if they are not knowledgeable, they will go out of their way to help you and make sure you get everything that you need for your pet. I really like this Petsmart. The people who work here have proven to really care for animals of all kinds. They care about them and they want to make sure that their owners and their pets are happy. read more

Horrible grooming experience. The groomer, Lucy, forgot to clean my dog's anal glands and claimed that they only do it if requested. HELLO? It says on the menu that it's included and every groomer I've gone to, they always do it as part of the service. Anyway, I called Lucy back and she kept giving me all these excuses and precautions about anal glands cleaning, basically telling me she didn't want to do it. After going back and forth over the phone, I brought my dog in so she could check herself that her glands were full. Well, she didn't charge me for the service but she had the audacity to give me back my dog with her fur and bottom dirty as heck from the glands. I changed my dog food to give her opportunity to try different food and she refused to eat it. The staff members happily let me change to other brand that I been purchasing through out the year. I felt bad for purchasing large bag but they had no problem and I was not questioned. This is the only place I go when I need something for my dogs. Yes, I'm a major dog lover and I frequently visit here to buy everything for my dogs. I use to bring my dogs but it could get hassle when I have carry all the supplies for my dogs. I have never encountered with rude staffs here ever since I first visited. This location have very friendly staffs and they want you to make sure you're good in finding things that you need. They are knowledgeable and able to answer questions that I need to know. They have Banfield veterinary in same facility which I bring both of my dogs as well. I also remember buying first hamster for my niece here. They have unique reptiles, turtles and large selections for fish & birds to choose from. I have not had chance to use their Pet Hotel facility but I'll definitely would try out if I need to take a trip. wow!! this petsmart is awesome. There is staff everywhere and everyone seems overly helpful and nice. This place makes me smile! they have a huge selection of fish and fish supplys I like just checking them out even though I don't have fish. Also the reptile food is here and I can grab crickets there myself easily for my geckos. There reptile selection is pretty small though, only a few terariums and 2 were empty. But i saw a few turtles and a ball python, looked well taken care of. Right next to the reptiles are the birds. impressive selections of smaller birds and a few cool looking parrots. Also all looked well taken care of, cages were clean and feathers looked good. They even have dog and cat addoptions here, I believe all are rescues and require only a donation of $85 for cats. Thought that was pretty cool. The cats are always there on the right when you walk in, just past the fish. My little girls would spend hours there if I'd let them, moms alergic ;-/... Next head to the back , and check out the doggy daycare area. I don't take my dog here but there setup is pretty cool. Right side is for smaller dogs, I have seen about 8-12 dogs in there at a time, which was good for that size of a room. And left side is for bigger dogs. I have seen 4-8 dogs in there at a time. There were 3 huskys in there bullying the other dogs a bit last time I was there. There is also a dog training area here. My little girls wanted to watch for a minute and the girl leading the training was really good. I could tell just by the 2 minutes watching she really knew her stuff and had everyone in the class smiling,, continue on and You,ll find the dog grooming area. It has windows looking in and you can watch as your pet is groomed and is kept clean at all times.. Anyway all in all this place get 4.25 stars and is the best all around pet shop in the south bay for sure !!! read more

This is a pretty large store for buying either a small animal or reptiles or food and accessories for all your pets. I decided to pick up a Syrian long-haired hamster for giggles and came here first. I had heard they are easy to care for unlike bigger pets. Unfortunately, they didn't carry any Syrian long-haireds and actually recommended I go to Petco because they carried them there. I appreciated that they gave me the information and suggested a competitor. They didn't seem to have a lot of accessories for the small animals but said they would be restocking soon! They seemed friendly enough and it's close to where I live so I'll most likely be coming here to pick up goods for my new pet. Oh, and they honor the reduced prices from their online store so just bring in a copy of the item from their website www.petsmart.com and they'll cop you the discount! read more

This review is specifically for the petshotel and the girl behind the counter with the blue hair, Emily. The past couple of interactions I've had with her she seems annoyed. My dog scraped between one of her toes on the car ride to the hotel. I shouldn't have said anything but made this woman aware when she was checking my dogs in so that she didn't think it happened at the hotel. This woman glanced at it and said her paw was "actively bleeding" and because of this she could not accept my dog in the hotel and I'd have to find elsewhere to take her, no apology or anything. This woman has ZERO customer service skills. She gave me a sheet with boarding places in the area, only one problem, none of these places are open yet (8:30 am) and I live about an hour away from these locations with a flight in a few hours. Guess I'll have to leave my dog alone for 2 nights because Emily was having a bad day! read more

The Pet Hotel is my friend! This is a review for the Petshotel and not the rest of the store (although it looks nice). I've brought my dog Cooper, a jack russell terrier, to stay here a few times already. The staff was very nice and helpful and was reassuring as far as my dog's safety. PROS: Friendly and helpful. Made the administrative process easy. If they didn't know the answer to something, they wouldn't make up a lie, they would stop and ask to get the truth. Seemed very experienced with dogs. They give you a little report card on how your doggie did. CONS: Not many frequent visitor rewards. TIPS: If you keep your pup here overnight, I would totally recommend the doggie daycare all day or half day on the day you pickup. Your pup will go home with you exhausted from playing all day - he'll just fall asleep. If I'm headed out of town, I'll be back to the PetsHotel! read more

Well we did not think there would be more to write about this store. However, due to the substandard nature of service from the pet food and supplies store side of the store, we thought we should let others know. Tonight we went to do our usual shopping for pet food and treats for our pets. However, several things were not right. The first thing wrong was that upon entering the store, there was only one large shopping cart and it was stuck onto the smaller size carts. It took a bit of wrestling to dislodge it. It looks like no one bothered to bring in the carts from the outside parking lot. The next thing was that as we went down the aisle there was a store employee who came from the other direction there was a narrow section so we both could not pass the other. We just stopped to let her through but she was rather rudely silent like we were a bother to her. Then as we got in line (there was only one open), we noticed a cart nearby with cardboard in it looks like some pet food cans were taken out and perhaps placed on the shelves. The problem is that it caused another bottleneck which made it hard for people to walk past it. Finally, there was a customer who had a problem with her making her purchase by credit card so it made everyone else wait. Another customer asked that another register be opened. Nothing. But when a customer cussed out loud that it was taking too long, then more cashiers came and opened up more lines but with the attitude like they thought this was all funny. While we patiently waited, one employee took the person behind us. The customer said we were there first. But we said go ahead. In the meantime, we were stuck in the slow line. Needless to say it caused people to feel very uncomfortable. Maybe Petsmart employees don't want to work on a Saturday night. But such lack of care and unprofessional conduct will simply cause customers to patronize elsewhere. read more

I've had great experiences with the PetSmart PetsHotel in Long Beach, and so when they were booked I decided to take my pup over to Doggie Day Camp in Torrance. Whereas my Long Beach check-in time is about 5 minutes, it took me 30-40 minutes to check in my pup in Torrance, during which time they took two other customers before me saying they thought mine would take longer. My dog is a nervous pee-er, and he peed on their floor as I was handing him over. Yes, I know it's annoying, but they gave me total attitude about it. I mean, I don't think they should be excited about it, but it's not really either of our faults, and a little courtesy would have been appreciated. When I came to pick him up, it also took twice the normal time to get him out to me. As I was waiting in the lobby, I heard the employee running the small dog day camp screeching at one of the dogs to "shut up" because it was barking too much. I'm generally pretty easy going, but I will never again take my dog to this location. The service was awful, the wait time was too long, and the staff just didn't seem to care much for the animals in their care. read more

My boys and I love Petsmart. Oh, did I mention my boys have 4 feet? I had lost my Rollie about 3 or so months before and had rescued a puppy. My Rockie, 12 yr. old Dobie mix, was not happy with the new addition. Clifford, 7 month old, had way to much energy for a 12 yr. old dog. So I interviewed trainer after trainer. PetSmart won. Let me tell you I have worked with the "dog whisper", all kinds of private trainers and Lisa and her crew are the BEST. I do not say this lightly. My older boy did not like other, animals and after classes with Blythe and now Lisa he has passed his Canine Good Citizenship and I continue to attend classes. Additionally my Rockie attends doggie day care and plays with other dogs and now has a "girl friend". Clifford, yes he's big and red, has also passed his canine good citizenship and is becoming a very well behaved young man. He also continues to take classes. My boys both love entering PetSmart. They both will walk over to the cashiers, also known as human Pez dispensers, and wait at each cashiers register for their treats. They have both learned that khaki pants and blue shirts equal treats. I highly recommend PetSmart and so do Clifford and Rockie. Enjoy read more
