I bring my golden doodle in every 3-4 weeks for grooming and i was told he needs to be shaven down due to matting and that i should bring him in every 4-6 weeks so that we dont have to do that.........? Thats the ignorant part, I spent 15 minutes brushing my dog at home after the canceled appointment to get the coat smooth, and that s the lazy part! We tried to adopt a sweet baby kitten from Home Sweet Home. Deciding to adopt with them was an awful experience. The gentleman we spoke with lied to us about this kitten, but overall he was super kind. Now Maria the lady who views applications. She was TERRIBLE!!! It started with not knowing any information for 5 days, we were told we'd hear from her in 3 days. Then when she finally called me she told us the kitten that was apparently frozen for us, what the gentleman had told us, was indeed not frozen and they chose to pick an application to look at first over ours because they've adopted there before. How are we supposed to adopt from them if they're choosing old customers over us? Next when I told Maria things we were told by the gentleman she argued with me, yelled at me, and was extremely rude. All over a conversation she was not even present to listen to! Then after Maria hung up leaving me in tears we decided to withdraw our application. Not because we didn't want the kitten, but because we were not okay giving money to an organization that treated customers the way we were treated. When we called Maria back to withdraw our applications the only thing she said to us after we said we were withdrawing was "Perfect" and then she hung up on us. Worst experience I have ever had!! I have been in there multiple times to pick up items for my dogs or my fish. However, every time I want to get fish, it is a major hassle and nobody seems to care. Last night I went in again to try and get fish and told the girl at the register to please send over someone to help me which is what you have to do or you stand up finger up your behind for hours. She told me it would be a minute to please waitShe told me it would be a minute. I waited for about 10 minutes and when nobody came, I decided to go use the bathroom to kill some time. When I came back 10 minutes later, there was still nobody there so I walked up to the same girl at the register who is the only one I could find and she said it will be a minute same thing to me again no sorry, no politeness whatsoever! Young blonde woman with long hair just had no interest in helping me and treated me like I was bothering her. I used to go there so often because I have multiple animals and fish at home. It was like 8 o'clock and nobody was really in the store so there should've been no problem with all the employees they have. I did notice two girls outside collecting and were chatting it up when I left. Just laughing and having a good time instead of helping out inside. I am in the store a fairly good amount and today I was in the check-out line for about 10 minutes. There was only 1 checker and 2 others were standing in the office chatting. I brought up the wait and the check-out girl who finally came out of the office, laughed it off and said they are short of help. I suggested that standing and chatting is not my idea of short of help. This was before 3 on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023. Beverly, "The Experienced Groomer" I took a few days before writing this review; becuz I wanted to be sure; that was not over reacting. That said, we took our 5 month old Silky Terrier to an "experienced groomer." We will not being going back to this salon. Here's my reasons why: First off, lemme say I'm fully aware hair can grow back. Here are the facts: * My silky terrier is 5 months old * Teething * He loves rolling around in the grass and carpet. I brush him everyday to get him use to the brush * This is his first time having a stranger groom his hair *Most silkies have black/tan hair as puppies, but will grow out of that color If that's what their genes show. (It's hard to know early on what their true color will be) * Most ppl confuse silkies with Yorkies, ALOT of groomers will mis-cut silkies like Schnauzers. * This is NOT my first dog/silky That being said, the we took him into the groomer on that Friday. We gave pictures of how we wanted him cut. The first groomer, mentioned he had too many tangles for a puppy session and would need to have an adult shampooing to get the tangles out. Otherwise he would require some spot shaving if they can't get the tangles out. We would need to reschedule for an adult shampoo. We took him back the following Monday. At this point it was a different lady named Beverly that would be wrking on my dog. She was said to have a lot of experience with many dogs. She called my husband and left a message saying they're gonna have to take down a "tad more" for the spot shaves, and then even it out from there. She later calls, and over explains herself. Mentioning my dog was too aggressive, and saying he really needs more discipline about being still with ppl. Mentioning she's had other dogs that do much better with this process. ( I thought to myself ok. But then thought, well he is a 5 month old silky terrier, after all. Not to mention when I'm grooming him at home; he's fine, he'll move around a little but I know he is still learning; and yes! he'll go in and out of being perfectly still --to moving around a little.) So naturally. This felt like her attempt to defend what she had messed up. Without her admitting it. Mind you, this was a phone call from her; I had not even seen the results of what she had done yet. We got there, and surprise!--A fully shaved dog. The cute Black/tan puppy hair all gone, and never to come back. Yes, I knew this would eventually grow out and be forever gone. But this was literally taken/shaved away, without full permission within in minutes. Now, let's get one thing straight. I know hair grows back. BUT, we supplied the groomer with photos. If she realizes as the groomer, she needs to massively hack away at my dogs hair--that's when u STOP and make double sure that's what we want. If this is the only option; then give us the client a minute to digest this decision. So, after we saw him and tried to get a discount on this awful service done by a Very Experienced Groomer; the manager didn't fully want to honor this request. And said that's up to the Salon. Ok! well if it's up to the Salon; then go do the leg wrk and advocate on my behalf, AS THE CUSTOMER. But no, she proceeded to defend her groomer. And even mentioned that the groomer came to her; before my complaint saying she had scratch marks on her arms. To which I pointed out to the manager, that sounds like she was cover her butt; and knew she had messed up. The mangers response to that "well that's your opinion" --I said to her, "now ur playing games" And that's when I left. Cuz I knew that conversation was goin nowhere. To that end: It was not until I fully left and threaten to blast them on social media; that they called me back AND THEN Honored my request for a discount. read more

Normally my go-to place for frogs and frog supplies, however I have not been a happy customer of late. These frogs are more than our pets, they are members of our family, they are my sons and daughters in Christ. We read to them, buy them special organic food, and bring them with us to movie theaters. Recently the quality of frog has gone significantly down. These little buggers are dropping dead faster than we can get their fan Facebook pages created. I spoke with the certified amphibian specialist at Petsmart today and she suggested it was because of the water....like I'm not keeping it consistently between 73-77 degrees (ideal for frog spleen health), testing pH levels every 2 hours, and using a SafeHome Enviro Test Kit to check water bacteria levels after each feeding. Honestly the only reason I didn't give 0 Stars is because I do have a dominant frog at home that might be killing the other frogs. read more

I've spent countless amount of time at this PetSmart ever since I moved to south Elgin. I've taken my 7 month old GSD here ever since he was a pup and after today I won't be going back. I had scheduled an appointment for him to be groomed today. When I brought him in I had also brought a muzzle. He does not bite but he does get nervous and barks at other dogs. I explained the situation and told them that I could put a muzzle on if they wanted me to (that is usually what I do with his vet). The woman at the front told me that it would be no problem and that if they needed to muzzle him that they had muzzles to do so in the back. I was then asked to wait 10 mins for my groomer to get in (that was fine with me I was aware that I was early). After waiting, another woman (assuming this was my groomer) came up to me and told me they could not groom him because of their "no muzzle policy". I explained once more that he is not aggressive and that I only brought it to put it on if he gets loud. The woman then offered to reschedule me for a less busy day. So at this point I'm confused...is it that there is a no muzzle policy or is this a matter of you guys being too busy? Not to mention why is it that I can't bring in a muzzle but they keep them in the back incase they want to use them. Overall I felt like the groomer simply did not feel confident in grooming my dog but I would've appreciated the truth rather than them making up excuses. I did look all over the web for this "no muzzle policy" but did not find it anywhere. Happy that I didn't leave my dog with them because the last thing id want is a inexperienced groomer interacting with him. read more

This review is on behalf of my mom's experience the other day. She was trying to buy some bones. When she went to check out, she provided her phone number as usual so she could get points for her rewards account. The cashier told her nothing was coming up. She tried to offer her email instead, but he refused to take it. He told her to just make a new account, which she shouldn't have to do if she already has one that has been accumulating points. I believe it's possible he may have typed in her phone number wrong because when she came home, we checked the website and found that her account was working just fine. I wish I would have read the reviews before I took my Maltese Shih Tzu to Petsmart for grooming. I combed her hair the night before and got just about all the tangles out except for a few by her back paws. I was told that they may have to go very short because she has knots. I told her I combed her the night before and most were gone. My poor dog was shaved. Her hair I don't think is even a quarter of an inch long. Her back end is all red and raw. The hair on her left ear she must have lost control of the clippers and clipped a chunk of hair that is shorter than the rest of the hair on her ears. It seems that from the comments below this is their normal to say there are knots and they will have to go short. Never again will I bring her to Petsmart for grooming. Very disappointed and expensive. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

after my recent attempt to get my newly rescued Cocker Spaniel groomed...I will never be back to any Petsmart NEVER!!! I recently got a new 2 year old Cocker Spaniel rescue from a shelter in Minnesota...she was originally from Oklahoma and got her rabies shot there,,,the records that were given to me were sketchy at best..I understand that...but they do show that she was given her rabies shot in January of this year and had the rabies tag from Oklahoma attached to the paperwork...but since I did not know, nor did the paperwork indicate if it was a 1 or 3 year vaccine...they refused to groom her...tried to talk to the manager "susan" , who was standing right there...I could understand if this was later than a year from her vaccine that this would be an issue...but given the fact that it was only 8 months ago...it shouldn't really matter which vaccine she got...she was well within the time frame for either. I guess COMMON SENSE is not a quality they look for when hiring at petsmart...after getting nothing other than "its our policy for the safety of groomers or other animals" but she was too stupid or bullheaded to understand that the vaccine would be good no matter which vaccine she got since it was only 8 months ago!!! This review is more for the grooming service... i came in with my little fluffy havanese girl and told them that i wanted her haircut but not so short and a puppy cut.. and when i came back i was so disappointed to see uneven spots, her hair behind her right ear was longer.. her sanitary areas not even shaved. I hate to have to do this. I took my little cavilier/mix in for grooming today. She has been here many times so they are aware of her and her needs. They clipped one of her moles (they were well aware of it as my husband AGAIN reminded them when he dropped her off). They called me to pick her up and informed me they would not bathe her because now she was bleeding. When my husband picked her up they charged him 52.00! For what??? She is totally uneven and she did not get bathed etc. What was the charge for? And now I am going to have to take her in to the vet! This poor dog looks like an abomination. :( read more

The training services are outstanding there but the only thing that I would advise you not to do is, do not let your dog get groomed there! When we took my dog to the groomers there it either was the request got mixed up and we did not explain it well enough or they just took instructions way too literally and they basically shaved all the fur off of his legs there was only like a 16th of an inch of hair on his legs! Do not take your dog here for grooming!!! I took both of my dogs here in the evening for grooming and the next morning both dogs were sick and throwing up. My older dog was in so much pain he couldn't eat (wouldn't even take a treat), could barely walk and I thought we were putting him down. $1,000 later at the vet we seemed to have saved him. Both dogs ended up with extreme dandruff and are losing their hair. If you care about your pets in the least do not take them here. I used to take my maltese to the Bellevue PetSmart store for her grooming. The head specialist was always amazing with my dog. However, when I moved to Lynnwood I took her to this PetSmart for grooming. Her hair cut is decent. I asked for a size 4 hair length and rounded puppy cut to her face. The were able to get the roundness of the face very well. Nevertheless one of her ears has a jagged cut that is choppy and shorter than the other ear. I am incredibly bothered by the fact that my dogs normally soft and silky hair feels dry and as though there was shampoo residue. As if they barely rinsed her off. I feels rough and soapy. I had to give her a bath again just to get the gross residue off. It definitely made a difference to shampoo her and rinse her with her usual shampoo but her ears still feel rough. I will have to wash her ears again. All this bathing is not going to be good for her skin. I also looked at her nails and found that 3 nails were cut so low that she has dried blood on the tips. There are two other nails that were cut so close to the vessel that the center is hollow but thankfully not close enough to clip the vessel. They mentioned they squeezed her anal glands but when I checked her glands were still full of material. Overall, I am unsatisfied and ultimately irritated that my dog was treated so roughly and with subpar care. She was also at PetSmart for an unreasonable time. When I created the appointment prior to the grooming opening in the morning there were a lot of spots open.I made an appointment for 8am. I dropped her off thinking with all the availability she would be done quickly. They called at 1pm. Why did it take 5 hours? I do not recommend. Apparently mediocrity runs high at these groomers. read more

I have been a customer for over 10 years, and only once have I had a bad experience. It was with a new groomer, and she didn't ask the right questions. Or perhaps I wasn't specific enough. I recently took my Cairn Terrier to a neighborhood groomer because I like to support small business. The cost was $15 more and I was disappointed. Lesson for everyone -- take a picture of your dog with the cut you like, then take it in when you take your dog in for grooming. And don't judge a place after only one try. I took my dog to PetSmart in South Elgin for grooming. When I went to pick him up they said he was aggressive and tried biting so they did not finish his haircut. My dog is not an aggressive dog so I was a bit taken back but understood. They charged me more than a normal bath but less then a full groom. When I put my dog in the car I realized that they shaved 1 paw and left the other 3 untouched. I can not believe they would charge me almost 50.00 for a dog with 1 shaved paw and uneven spots. The only reason why I am giving this location four stars is because my friend took her dog to the grooming area and had a very bad experience. As a store selling general pet merchandise we love Petsmart; it is THE place we shop for our pets. I realize pet stores must provide a wide variety of products and services but we will not have our dogs groomed at Petsmart or any other high-volume pet grooming location and I ask that you read the following carefully. High-volume pet groomers use what is called "cage drying". Some places called them "rooms" or other names that are less likely to raise blood pressure of pet owners. If you care about your dogs emotional well-being please do not allow them to "cage dry" your pet. This is a very noisy and very scary event for dogs. Dogs that have been rescued are particularly in danger of having behavioral problems with this type of drying method. Your dog is placed in a crate, or slightly bigger cage then area, and very loud blowers blow directly on the dog which is very frightening. Please pay a little more and make sure they hand dry your dog. Hand drying means using a handheld dryer and talking to the dog and petting it while the groomer is drying the dogs hair. Most dogs are highly frightened of even handheld dryers. PLEASE do not traumatize your dog with "cage dry" high volume groomers! read more

Staff is helpful but not annoying - you can shop at your leisure knowing they are just an aisle or two away to help you. This is a review for their grooming service. I have two dogs, a husky and a pug. I took both to this grooming location on Sunday. For the pug I purchased the standard bath at $21.99 which includes shampoo, ears, nails and brushing for up to 15 minutes. For the husky I purchased the bath + furminator treatment at $58.99 which includes furminator shampoo and conditioner, brushing for an additional 20 minutes with a furminator brush and nails and ears. I spent almost $90 with tax, my dogs were at the groomers for nearly 4 hours and from the moment I picked them up, both dogs were shedding, there was still a ton of loose undercoat all over the husky, the husky's coat is yellow in the areas that should be white, the pug's face was clearly not washed because he still had eye residue underneath his folds, and his ears were absolutely filthy. I asked the girl who groomed him if the ears were cleaned, she said yes and I told her his ears were still really dirty. She used almost 10 cotton balls to clean the wax out of his ears that she neglected to do so in the 4 hours she had him. I'm not sure what her name is (I think her name was Salma but I am not 100% sure), but I won't be bringing my dogs back here. read more

I took my in for a haircut, I was later called and told there had been a "little accident". I go back to Petsmart and went immediately to grooming who refused to speak wtih my and called the store manager. The manger tells me that as my dog was being cut they believed he became anxious somehow got away from the groomer, fell on the floor and had a seizure. My dog is a imperial shih-tzu and weighs less than 5 pounds, everything went downhill from here. The staff were not very cooperative, no incident report was given to me, I had to demand they take a full body x-ray..I am very displeased with Petsmart and will NEVER take my dog here again to these unprofessional people. Okay, I really feel bad writing this review because I know how hard they work in the grooming department, but at the end of the day, my dog looks awful!!! My dog is a poodle mix and has curly fur. He was a little matted and so I knew he would have to be shaved down a little, but asked if they could keep it as long as they could. They showed me what they would cut it down to, and it wasn't ideal, but I was ok with it. I also asked that they just brush his tail fur (he has longer fur on his tail like a golden doodle). I go to pick him up and he is shaved so short, that I can see the pink of his skin. They shaved the base of his tail, but then poofed out the fur on the rest of it so it looks like a cleaning duster, and they barely touched the fur on his face or ears. I mean, I know it sounds bad, but he looks SO bad it really kind of sad. When we adopted him 5 months ago, he was at the shelter because he had been left out in a backyard and was so filthy that (from what I am told) him and his brother smelled up the whole shelter. They had to shave him down, and we adopted him the next day...even that was a better haircut. I know he didn't need to be shaved down that far, and now the poor dude just looks sad. I respect how hard they work, and I have seen other dogs come out looking nice, and thats great, but at the end of the day my dog came out looking crazy and sadly I will not be returning. My parents both have standard poodles who just went to get haircuts elsewhere who went to the groomers in the same condition mine did, and they were not shaved that short, I am very disappointed and am patiently waiting for some fur to grow back asap! read more

Why go to Petsmart when you can go to Petco right next door? Especially when the customer service is horrible. My husband simply called for some quotes on grooming. The lady on the phone made it seem like we were such a bother to ask our questions. My husband wanted me to confirm the prices and I got a sigh and attitude on the phone. So I said, never mind, I'll go to a pet store that's nicer. So we did! Samantha at Petco was HAPPY to answer our questions and she remembered my dogs name! Customers don't care what kind of day you're having and we shouldn't have to apologize for asking the same question that you may have been answering all day long. We weren't there all day when you answered it before. We simply ask for expedient and friendly customer service. read more
