My 10 year old 10 pound dog had a great experience today in the Grooming department even though she is often timid. Checkin and checkout were efficient, and staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Mia needed to have ample hair clipped/shaved between her toes on all four paws. She also received a shampoo, had her ears cleaned, and had her teeth brushed. The appointment took two hours as I was told, and I was comfortable leaving her. I was texted and called when she was ready for pickup. Mia looks great. I normally give her a bath which is easy, BUT trimming her nails had become a very unpleasant experience for both of us. Dreaded it! It was well worth the cost to take her to Petsmart today. We will return! I bought a new collar and retractable leash for her today. The selection was excellent. The Niskayuna PetSmart store use to be my go to for all things pets, grooming, baths, nails. I usually ended up spending more money on food, treats, toys, etc, while waiting. I am not sure what they are doing at this store over the last several months, but really going downhill fast. They currently have Yappy Hr walk ins, from 2-6, but I can attest to the fact it's pretty likely they will be long gone, before Yappy Hr wraps up. I have gone in twice between 5:30-6 in the last four weeks, and no one is there. I made an appt for 6PM this evening, and they left a message regarding the potential to move it earlier to the 3-5PM timeframe( hmmm..) . I asked why, did they change their hours, and she noted short staffed. Needless to say, the person I spoke on call back, wouldn't accommodate the appt, while the person that left the message seemed to indicate if I couldn't move, no big deal. I think you need some adults in charge to provide improved leadership over your grooming department, improve staffing, and customer service. At a minimum, you lost my business at this store and bad taste on the brand in general. So I went there to get fish for my fish tank. I have to say that I did not go to the store for anything other than that so I can only write on this portion of my experience. They have the option there now that you can push a button button and it will let people know that you were needing assistance. That was not there before I like that feature. I was able to get in and get out the person who was there to help me was very understanding very pleasant did what they had to do and was extremely nice so I have no complaints there at all. They did their job and they did it well. People up at the cash register did their job as well, and we're very polite and friendly. I don't know what's wrong with their app because the app does not give me the points that I'm supposed to be getting and it won't connect when I'm inside the store so when I buy something in the store, it won't give me the points to my app so that I can use them in both places. Anyway, the store looks nice. It's a beautiful place but it's a pet shop it's not supposed to be glamorous it's not supposed to be amazing it's clean. It's a good atmosphere. The most dirty PetSmart I've ever been to. The whole store smells like urine, their corridors covered in dog pee, and you can even see some shelves/products with urine on them too. Not a single space of this store is clean. This is why I'm an avid Petco consumer; their stores are spotless. The groomer Bri was incredibly aggressive and unprofessional with me when I came in to drop off my dog. She maintained that same aggressive disposition when I handed my dog off to her. I am genuinely concerned that she mistreated my defenseless dog. For an employee to treat me with such disrespect while charging me for an incomplete service is truly unacceptable. She lied to my face (while yelling at me btw) that she left me a message that I never received (on any of my numbers). She refused to communicate with me and told me that "I should have listened to her detailed message" which she never sent. Can a monster like this really be trusted with animals who can't defend themselves if she would treat a person like this? Brianna did a fan flippin tastic job with my little bojangle. Not only does he get all the female dogs now but ive nearly had to hire him his own security team because everyone wants to pet the most beautifulest dog ever. I must say brianna did the most amazin job and i would like her to get a promotion or a raise. Somebody at corporate needs to get this girl on her way to the top fast. Shes like a five star chef with the scissors and as gentle as a flowing river with the trimmers. I almost couldnt get bojangle to come back with me because he was so in love her. I bet they put cucumbers on his eyes. If i could rate the haircut bri gave him above five stars, id have to say its got more star than the milky way. So this was a good and a bad visit. Took our dog to be groomed. Showed up about 30 minutes early since it was our first time and we had to provide shot records. The shift leader was so nasty and matter of fact about us being early it really turned me off. Our dog was groomed by a different staff member and she did a great job on Max. I waited until pick up to talk to the manager not wanting to put our pup at risk and I explained that they are not doing me a favor by grooming my dog but rather it was I who was doing them a service by using them for the service. I also read another review which singled out this same staff member. Customer service skills are hard to teach and it comes from the top down. At your own risk using this place. read more

Don't ever go to this Petsmart for grooming. My dog came home to us partway groomed, patches everywhere! The clipped the due claw and had to take it to vet to have removed, and bandaged. They didn't finish grooming her, and what the did do was a total hack job, that makes her look horrible with patches everywhere!!! If you love your dog, don't take it here!!! read more

I recently took my dog to Petsmart for a nail trim as I have for the last 6 years. My boy is a 65 lbs boxer/terrier mix and suffers from anxiety issues when having his nails trimmed but they always do a great job and treat him well. As usual I advised the groomer my dog would need to be muzzled for their safety and my conscience, something they have obliged since i started going there. After I made the request the "salon manager" Cymone intervened and announced my dog would not be muzzled because he is listed as a boxer and they do not muzzle that breed. When I advised the young lady I always request this and it is done every time i visit she told me my dog has never been muzzled at that salon. Her tone and attitude I feel were very disrespectful, accusatory and confrontational and I actually felt she was calling me a liar. The groomer did offer to try to do it with a cone on my dog to which I agreed. She asked that I walk the dog around the store due to him being him being somewhat agitated and I complied. Upon my return I left my dog and stepped outside the salon to observe. I watched as the groomer attempted to lift my 65 lbs dog up onto the table with no success, I happen to notice the "salon manager" Cymone also stood by and watched. When I went back inside I advised the groomer that usually 2 people lift my dog onto the table and again the salon manager intervened and stated 2 people have never lifted up or worked on my dog in that salon. Again the same disrespectful, accusatory and confrontational tone was used making me feel very disrespected and uncomfortable, again i felt like i was being called a liar. Needless to say, my experience has me doubting I will be returning to Petsmart ...at least at that location anytime soon. To make matters worse I emailed corporate for Petsmart and never heard a peep. Over the years my experiences at the Niskayuna Petsmart has been very good, the staff were friendly and very efficient. I made attempts to take my pet here on 3 occasions. Should have known better by the lack of customer service over the phone. Took my pet in for his groom that didn't happen. I get there 3 minutes before 7am a vehicle in the parking lot just sitting there with two woman in it facing my vehicle and the store. I get out with my pet walk to the pet smart door and start knocking. The two woman c on e out and to the door and ask are you here for a groom I said yes oh you work here. Strike one you waited until I started to knock on the glass door before you got out your vehicle to work. We enter the store. Then comes the store or shift lead just walks into the salon doesn't say a good morning or hello to the staff or the customer she just says nastily take her off the counter. I asked the associate that was helping me who was she and she didn't like that you could see as it was obvious. They went on to say oh we have to have our shift lead look over your pet they said it looks like my pet has a scab and it looks infected and they can't groom him until it's gone you may need to see a vet. Really because I checked you on your hospitality. Unprofessional woman and unruly dispositions! I would never take my pet here and pet smart needs to reevaluate their employees as they will continue you to loose business! read more

Brianna is fantastic with both of my boys. I have one extremely nervous boy and Brianna always does a fantastic job and is incredibly patient and kind with him despite his attitude and nervousness. i am writing this because of the behavior of one of your employees. I am in Pet Smart quite often and everyone in that store has always been been very nice and accommodating to any of my needs that is until 2 weeks ago. I am in a wheelchair and I have a 3 lb service dog who goes everywhere with me. About 4 months ago I purchased a cage and shortly after i had gotten the cage one of the metal inserts had come out and was dangerous for the animal as well as myself. I came in to purchase another cage and one of their employees suggested that i may be able to get it replaced because it was quite new. I asked to speak to the manager and a person by the name of Dylan. (he refused to give me his last name) Very quickly he became argumentative asking why I had not returned it sooner, told me about the stores 60 day policy. I can understand the 60 day policy but I only use this cage when my dog accompanies me on an airplane which is why I had not noticed this mechanical problem within the 60 day period it was not as if i was unhappy with the look of the cage but it was a problem that should not occur so quickly and was actually quite dangerous for my dog as well as for myself. I did call the phone number that was listed on their site but of course nothing was done. Dylan was one of the rudest people I have ever met and I was very frustrated that the no one at Pet Smart seemed to care. read more

Had the most uncomfortable conversation with the "lizard expert" guy at this Balltown store in niskayuna Ny. I grew up with plenty of amphibians and reptiles, and because I wasn't going to buy there $100 starter kit, the "lizard expert" guy said he couldn't sell me a lizard. Even after explaining that I had equipment at home. This weirdo wasting even looking at me while conversing, he was staring off at the wall as if he'd never had an intelligible conversation with another human being before, apart from lizards or about lizards, interrogating me as if I was purchasing an illegal fire arm. Next time PetSmart, look into the behavior of people and their ability to socialize, before hiring some weirdo like this gentlemen who's just going to lose you business and a negative review. . Standard Pet Smart with a dog groomer and a micro-Banfield vet in the store, although I've honestly never seen the vet open. They have cats for adoption but don't have full adoption clinics as yet for participating shelters. I don't mind it enough to make a special trip elsewhere but frankly only go because of the location. Let that be a lesson to those of you thinking about opening up a business. read more

She unfortunately has an extreme temper problem and you can see it affecting the dogs around her, my two doggos had their tails between their legs and they were hiding behind me and the other dog in the room with their owner was shaking so bad. It is so unfortunate, I have been bringing my dogs here for 5 years and I will not be bringing them to this salon until she is terminated because of her attitude I feel as if my dogs are not safe in her presence. Also be very weary of the prices you're being charged because she changes dogs breeds to charge more and can't give an explanation as to why when she is questioned. We just went in to look at fish. Decent variety but am very concerned with how dirty the tanks are. Hopefully they are cleaning them. Also, a few tanks were way over-crowded which is horrible for these fish. The live water plants are mostly dying and look horrible. Love this place. we go to the Niskayuna store about once a week for pet supplies for our dogs, fish, and turtle. I took a star off for their fish department, they are not too knowledgeable on aquariums and their fish are not in the best of health. everything else is great. we recently started taking obedience classes there with our puppy and our trainer, Pat is fantastic. normally we wouldn't go to a big box store for dog training, but after observing this particular trainer we gave it a go for the puppy classes. we couldn't have been happier as Pat is great! we even continued training with him and our pup is currently in Pat's advanced class once a week. Pat gets my highest recommendation. read more

Me and my girlfriend have been bringing our dogs here for 5 years. In the past 4 months the environment at this locations grooming department is unsafe. The groomers have developed issues with my girlfriend personally, writing notes in the system to remind that my girlfriend disagreed with the price. I asked how they price their grooming and they said " from price and Breed". I asked if they had a scale to weigh my dogs and they said no. Then claimed the Breed of my dog is incorrect and want to charge me more. I claimed how did they price off of weight if they don't have a scale. They claimed the paperwork. She contradicted her statement. Realized and hung up and then proceeded to throw my girlfriends phone back at her( I asked my girlfriend to hand the manager the phone to explain.). Just ok. Went in here after calling about a vacation feeder for fish. They were the only store that carried the one we needed so three stars for that. As I walked in I noticed they have a cat adoption area and went to look at them. They were all in fairly small cages with no real toys or anything to get physical activity. I also noticed most cats were 9 years old except for a couple kittens and the adoption fee was $100. The probability of these older cats getting adopted when you can get a kitten for the same price is very slim which I find depressing and sad. I went and picked up the fish thing I needed and decided to get my dog a couple small stuffed toys. Most were $5-$6 and the whole store gave the illusion that everything was on sale yet prices were not really sale prices or that great. I did however find some for $1.97 all the way at the end of the aisle where I'm guessing they hope many people won't check and will just buy the more expensive items. Unless there is a specific item you need like I did and no other store carries it, I don't see the advantage of going here over Target or Wal-Mart. read more
