On June 16th, I purchased an item online to pick up in-store. When I went to the store a short time later, I found a similar item which was better suited for my needs. I told the clerk I would not be picking up my online order and I was assured I wouldn't be charged as I never picked up the item. Well, I was charged, so I called the store on the 20th after the "hold" processed as a charge. Fast forward to today, and I still haven't gotten my money back after multiple calls to the store itself and the corporate office! What kind of incompetence is there when a simple refund can't be processed? I got a different answer everytime I called and calling the corporate office was pointless. Alyssa, the dog trainer, is AMAZING! She is so skilled and so friendly. She was very patient with our puppy and successfully trained us to be able to train our pup. When we take the dog in for nail clips, we always look to see if Alyssa is around so our dog can greet her. The dog goes nuts and is always happy to see her teacher! read more

I did the basic obedience class with one dog and absolutely loved it. The trainer was fantastic and really understood my questions and had real solutions I could implement. I went back three months later with another dog and found out my first trainer had moved away. Over the 6 week course (which was postponed 2 weeks from my original start), I had three different trainers. The class was also big- 6 people, and I really didn't feel like there was any consistency and the only thing my dog got out of it was some socialization. On the plus side, I now have some new dog park friends. So, I don't recommend the training. I do the nail clipping pretty regularly. I wasn't happy with the length after the last visit, so I switched to drimmel, and that made a huge difference. Much better. There was a coupon for "furminator" cleaning, so I did the full wash, bath, drimmel, furmination, and while it cost more than I'd like ($50), my dog came back happy, clean, and low-shed. I'll probably do it again, but only for special occasions. Overall, I'll continue to shop here because of the variety of food and the better prices than Petco. The recently hired a lot more employees, and I haven't had any difficulty getting my questions answered. read more

Petsmart: if you're going to stock "prescription" pet food out in the open & label it with prices like everything else, then you've got to expect people to bring it to the cash registers & try to buy it. Lets start with there is ALWAYS a line to checkout. 2nd they have the most expensive prices for food and litter I have seen. go to target it is a WAY better deal. Fish!?!? I have been in here looking for fish on a few occasions. First off half of the tanks have the WORST snail problem for well over a year now. ( i look every time I come in here) If you get snails in your tank they take over, do yourself a favor and JUST SAY NO. Also the people that work that department don't know a thing about fish and will lie to you about the snails being a problem. Also you use to be able to go and visit the cats but that section is always locked. Once i wanted to adopt one of them and was told I couldn't for a week. WHY? They didn't know why. The head of the fish department here is really knowledgeable, and will take the time to explain to you anything you may need help with. He's extremely attentive, and helpful. That said - getting service in the fish department can be a long wait while he's providing awesome customer service to someone else... You can bring your pets in, which is cool, but other than the fish department dude, the service here is kinda icky. they have decent enough prices. their fish selection is decent and generally healthy. for a chain store, they are pretty cool. read more

We still rate this place high because we love the workers who help us out and their dedication to help provide amazing customer service! If I was to rate my experience today I would give it a zero. This is my first time I have ever interacted with worker, and hopefully the last interaction I'll have to have with her. My partner and I saved up tips to buy our dog some awesome new toys. Walking up to the register we told Kem, that we apologize in advance for a tedious amount of ones, she then continued to make us feel extremely uncomfortable telling that she "HATES" when customers do this making us uncomfortable. Complaining that at the end of the night it makes her job even more tedious. She used profanity while interacting with us which is unprofessional. We understand that it can be tedious to count ones as both of us are in retail. This does not excuse any further aggression or pettiness towards paying customers. After the transaction, Kem did not give us our change, instead she THREW our items in a bag and proceeded with the next customer. After the experience today with Kem We are hesitate to spend our money here again. read more

I would like to start off by saying that I have never written a bad review... until now! We brought our dog in for grooming to the SandCity PetSmart for the first time and it will definitely be the last time! Our dog has been groomed regularly every 5 to 7 weeks all of his life, he is 6 1/2 years old. He is a little rescue Poodle mix. When living in La Quinta, CA we took all of our dogs to the PetSmart there and all of the groomers were wonderful. So we thought we would try the Sand City PetSmart grooming. Much to our horrific dismay, the groomer Liz; butchered our dog! She not only shaved him, making but it look like a lawn mower ran over him, but the cut is completely uneven and he was unrecognizable when we picked him up. She stated that he was too matted. He was not matted, he had a few knots that we were more than willing to pay extra for, for conditioning and any extra time to gently remove. She was just LAZY and very unprofessional! Prior to leaving him with Liz, she told me that she may have to go fairly short on his legs but she would leave the rest of him like a puppy cut. All she had to do was make a phone call to me and I would have come to pick him up if I had known that she was going to shave him the way she did! It will probably take a year for him to look like he did before we brought him to this terrible groomer. Beware! I had to click one star to post this but I am giving this place Zero Stars! read more

The staff has always been SO friendly here! I live in Salinas and make it a point to come to this particular spot because of just that. The store in town over here just...sucks. Anyway, the dog aisle is always wonderfully organized, clean, and well stocked. I love the selection they have available, especially when it comes to the Top Paw Tuff Chewgaurd toys. After having a horde of Dachshunds, I've learned that it's worth the investment when it comes to a toy that can survive their teeth. Top Paw seems to be the only company, aside from chew bones, that can handle the sort of punishment that they enjoy dishing out. I've yet to have to track down any employees whenever I'm needing help with something and there's usually two employees on standby at the registers when its usually time to check out. read more

9 times out of 10 the pricing is not correct. The prices showing on the shelve/bracket are not what it rings up as at the register. This has been going on for years. And when I point it out at the register they say "oh we'll need to correct that". Never has it been corrected because it happens the next time and the next time again, on the same items. When I had birds and bought millet, it always rang up more than the display stated and I had to point it out every time. Then it was kitty litter, ringing up $1 more than the display. And although they said "we'll fix it", it never changed. I made sure to double check at check out since it seemed the norm to over charge. Last time I went for kitty litter there was no price showing on the shelf anymore. Hmmmm. Yesterday I bought a cat toy, checked the sku on the bracket against the item, it matched. At check out I was charged $1 more than what the display said. I shouldn't have to constantly tell the employees how much the items are at check out so I don't get overcharged. Petsmart is now my last resort if I can't find what I'm looking for at another pet store. Check your receipts people! read more

If I could, I would give their grooming service 0 stars. I brought in my 7 month old puppy who has had haircuts prior with different groomers. I explained that he gets a little sensitive in certain areas, but he is normally pretty good. Three hours later, I get a call saying my pet was ready to be picked up but that they were unable to finish cutting him because he was trying to bite the groomer and that he was poorly behaved. After graduating puppy training classes and spending lots of time playing with other dogs and humans, the groomer had the nerve to tell me to train my dog better so that he doesn't bite. Let you remind you that this dog has never bitten anyone before- even his prior groomers. When they called letting my know that he was done, they told me that the service would be cheaper because they didn't get the full cut in. When I showed up to the store, I go to pay just to find out that they charged me for something I didn't request and it ended up costing me more than the initial full cut was going to be. I was finally given my dog back to see that he hadn't been cut and looked exactly the same as when I dropped him off. Definitely not worth the money, or any money for that matter. I will not be bringing my dog back to any PetSmart again. read more

Just took my dog for her grooming scheduled appointment at 7 am, as soon as the lady named Christy walked into the grooming salon slamming the door and with the most non friendly face gestures.. Not only my dog started freaking out but at that point I started to freak out too, I am not a smoker and have nothing against people's preferences and health decisions but this lady smelled like she just ate 10 packages of cigarettes.. Then she says Chloe my dog is matted and she was going to be shaved.. So I said I understood but I would like for her to try because we are starting December and Chloe gets very cold...(funny because I just took her to her old grooming salon and they didn't say they'll have a problem with her hair) she told me, she was going to charge me 7 dolars extra every 15 min... So, she said.. It is 45.. Plus I would probably spend an extra 30 min.. So then it would probably be 69 dollars... Hm.. Wait... Isn't it 45 + 7 + 7 = 59? Hm..... Nope. So then I said, you know what, thank you. But maybe another time... I just want to let you all know.. I don't know how everyone feels about your dogs.. But to me, they are my family... So how about you leave your 3 year old kid for 4 hours with a lady who not only STINKS like cancer sticks but you can tell she hates her job and does a terrible job at hiding it... Nope, not me. People, be careful who you trust your babies. And petsmart... You all should do a better job at hiring good human beings.. The fact that dogs can't talk doesn't mean they can be treated like shit. read more

This review is long overdue. If I could give them zero stars, I would. RANT ALERT! *deep breath* OK, so I visited Petsmart in Seaside last summer in hopes of buying some fishies. There was an older man working in the fish department, and he asked us if we needed help. We pointed out the fish we wanted (3 goldfish and 4 guppies), and explained to him we had two tanks (a goldfish tank and a tropical tank) that have been established for a long time. He told us that we shouldn't buy more than 2 fish at a time because they will get "new fish syndrome"...WTf?! I have had fish for a long time and have never heard of "new fish syndrome". We honestly thought he wasn't serious because it sounded so absurd. So he bagged up only our goldfish, then excused himself to go talk to the cashier. We waited for him to return and complete our order for about 10 minutes, but he didn't come back. We had to ask another person in that department if they could bag our guppies. When we approached the register, the cashier gave us a funny look. He rang up the fish, took our payment, then proceeded to turn his back to us and write something on the receipt, fold it in half, then hand it to us. I immediately opened it, and he had written "no guarantee on fish" on it! One of the things I like about purchasing fish from Petsmart is that they do guarantee their fish for 14 days. Anyways, I asked him why he wrote it on there. He said "Oh, because (insert lame old guy that bags fish name here) told me to." *Blank stare*. I asked to speak to the manager. I explained what happened and how disappointed how shady the cashier was with us. He could have just told us about the guarantee, not turn his back and be all secretive about it! The manager said he was going to check with the old guy who bagged our fish. He came back and told us that (insert lame old guy that bags fish name here) told him we were going to combine all the fish in one tank! He lied! I was so over it by then I asked for my money back on the fish, and I was done with it. I will never buy fish from them again. read more

Came in to get my dogs nails cut at 12am and she says I have to come back at 9am next day that maybe they can cut his nails then but no guarantee. They wont even let me set an appointment unless I want to do a bath and add other services. A service that is a measly 5 minutes. Our dog was terrified to go in. They shaved our dogs belly after being told no clipping whatsoever, just a wash and deep brush. It took almost four hours even though we had an appointment. They were understaffed and far from gentle with our very small dog. She has a small fat deposit on her back that they sliced when shaving her down. We caught the woman who cut her hair yelling at her while cutting her hair even though she is deaf and we made it known to her beforehand. She is a dog and whether she's deaf or not she deserves to be treated kindly :-( read more

This PetSmart has a much bigger selection than other locations I have encountered. I love that I can take my dog in with me (they even have convenient cleanup stations in case your dog decides to pee inside, most likely where 50 other pooches have peed before him). The prices, however, are really hit or miss. I have trouble finding inexpensive dog treats, but I managed to find a nice raised dog bowl stand (including two cute ceramic bowls!) for $25. I don't know what's up with the inconsistent pricing, but my pup will be having a merry Christmas for sure. read more

I haven't had any problems with this location. We are usually always greeted at the door and staff is generally very friendly. It's nice how they give treats to our dog at the register, it has helped him to socialize a bit more with people he doesn't know. For the most part, the store is cleaned and well-maintained (because some big box pet stores can be a bit depressing) and the prices are reasonable for locations like these. With a lack of nearby independent pet stores still open after I get off work, I don't mind giving Petsmart my business. Vet in store is convenient even if theyre a bit pricey. read more

Best place to get aquatic life and accessories (fresh, marine, tropical, other) in this area, no question. For the mammalian, they have high-quality electric nail grinders, which are far superior to clippers and I have used on dog and cat for a few years with little or no squirming, jabbing, hissing, whimpering, etc... The service? No expert here, but this store appears to be understaffed and, as I have noticed in other locations, the lighting is a bit dim. I went to pick up some more food for my dog and while I was grabbing some I was asked if I need any help, so I explained my dog doesn't eat much of the the BLUE chicken formula. They said that to try out the Lamb formula, but mix it with the chicken for about a week. He loves the food and I'm glad I made the switch. When I came back the same person remembered me and asked how it worked which was nice. Also I always wash my dog and since he's a inside dog with long hair I get tumble weeds of hair throughout my house. I decided to try their grooming and did the furminator package. My dog was the cleanest I've ever seen him with no tangles and when I brought him home I haven't seen anymore tumble weeds. :) read more

We were getting a hamster and he manhandled it and then tossed it in the cardboard carrier like the hamster was a toy. Shortly after he started saying how everyday he works there is " shit " and that he was miserable. He was also really sweaty and smelled. Definitely wouldn't want someone working at my store like that. Other than that guy i love this petsmart. I go frequently. read more

Over the years, this place has lost its....uh...happiness? I used to come in here and everyone would be friendly and helpful, now, when I go in I pray that no one sees me and asks me if I need help. There's one woman who works here that just wanders around drinking coffee saying "do you need help?" In a very monotone "I hate my life why am I here" voice, and she doesn't do it just once. It's like she doesn't pay attention to who's she's talking to, she just sees a body and says it. Overall, the service sucks, but the animals look like their being taken care of and have very clean habitats. read more

A week ago I bought a hamster that had a small defect on his toe. I hadn't noticed it until a day after I bought him so I thought he was in pain. However he was such a sweet hamster so I decided to keep him for a week to see if it would go away. When I came back the pet care employee Richard was very helpful and very sweet to my hamster. Turns out the hamster is not in pain and was suppose to be up for the adoption area. Everything was fixed very quickly and I was able to take my hamster home knowing he was pain-free and healthy. :) Very happy with the service I got from Richard because even though the store was busy he was very sweet to my little hamster and I felt a lot better. read more

I drive 45 minutes from Soledad for my pup appt at 1:30, just for them to tell me they can't do it. I let Shavonne know my pup had shots on Friday, ( vet said she would be OK) she immediately gave my pup back to me like she had the plague. I let Shavonne and the manager know that when I scheduled the appt, I let the scheduler know shots were going to be given on Friday. She never said anything about being there policy not to groom after vaccines. This place is a joke and even after speaking to the manager ( which was useless) she couldn't even see on the computer who made the appt. They brushed it off like it was no big deal. Also Shavonne talking about a dog named Chloe and how she did not want to work on that dog, cause the dog is difficult and mind you she was telling her manager that. I will never be back!!!!! This goes to the grooming department, it's been twice where I attempt to make an appointment online for my medium sized husky and I get a call the day before to have it cancelled. Last time we made the appointment a week in advance because we would be going on vacation. The day before her appointment I got a call letting me know that they had been over booked online. Same thing happened again this time, the lady on the phone let me know that the appointment system did not work well with timing "big dogs". I let her know my dog was not a large husky but was rather on the smaller side and her response was " yeaaaah" as if I was lying. I can understand that a system doesn't not work well, but I find it hard to believe that the appointment comes in the day before for the groomers to see. read more

Horrible customer service in the grooming/nail section. I came in at 730pm (they're suppose to be open till 9pm) and they said they were closing but they would give my dog a nail trim. I thought it was odd they were closing so early but they said it was due to short staffing when there weren't many dogs coming in they have the OPTION to close early. The woman said my rabies shot certificate was expired in July. Well they never told me anything last time ( I was there in july) and she is current on shots so I didnt even think about it. I literally live around the block 5 minutes max and I asked if I could grab her records and come right back. I told the woman it would take me less than 10 minutes. She got upset and threw her hands down and said "Fine!". I could tell she was pissed so I said nvm and left. I didnt want her to be mad while holding a grinder to my dogs toes and hurt her. I felt it was very unprofessional. First off they're supposed to be there till 9pm I get closing early but an hour and a half? Then get pissed off because someone asked if they could stay 10 minutes later when they're already closing an hour and a half early. It just didnt sit right with me, I wont be returning. read more
