As a travel nurse I have taken my dogs to several pet smart locations for grooming. I took my 12 year old Aussie to the San Antonio location for a furminator; I updated my number and left her. When my grandson went to pick her up there was a $25 extra charge-$10 because she was old and $15 dollars because she was not picked up on time. I did not receive a call. Even though I updated my phone number they were calling the old number. I refused to pay the $25 dollar fee. Who charges extra because the dog is old!!!! I have been to maybe all the PetSmart locations in San Antonio. I usually go when I am dog sitting to buy treats and toys. I like the excitement of the dog walking into this place. It is like he knows where he is going. He loves picking up his own toy. Which of course any dog lover would feel the same. I have never used their services for grooming or vet. Which maybe I would when needed. Everyone is always friendly at the registers and end up petting and playing with my dog... so cute! read more

Matthew, the store manager was very rude. We had called ahead to purchase a Syrian hamster and he has said they had two in stock. After making the trip to the store we show up and all hamsters were out of stock. After finding Matthew himself he had gas lit us into saying we asked for guinea pigs when that was not the case. He was very stand off ish and was unwilling to help. I just can't believe the customer service provided. Instead of admitting he had checked for the wrong animal he was defensive about the situation and was just unwilling to help. read more

I was visiting San Antonio from Padre Island and wanted my dogs to have their own fun. We placed them in Doggie Day Camp and the staff were so nice to them that by the end of the day we let them stay overnight in a Suite they both shared , to be able to play again. It really allowed us to sight see in the Texas heat and not have the dogs overheating walking around. Thank you to the Day Camp staff for the excellent care of our dogs Rambo and Spanky !! read more

I have been taking my puppy to training for the last few weeks. It is great. She really is learning basic obedience. The class isn't big which makes it easier for the trainer to assist one on one. The store is located at alamo ranch shopping center. Parking is available on site. The store is big. It has a day care, birding facilities and vet. I don't like writing bad reviews, but sometimes it is needed to warn others. I have been going to this petsmart for grooming for my three dogs for many years now. I have gone through all of their technicians/staff over the years and have been on the whole pretty satisfied. If you think you can have your dog groomed during your work day, drop off when they say you can drop off, be ready when they say will be ready. . . . Don't Count On It. Last three times - almost an hour wait to get checked-in and drop off dogs. Told dogs will be ready by 2pm, get frantic calls hours later that they are almost ready and to come get before they close, only to arrive to still damp dogs. NO THANKS, I'M DONE! Unfortunately the level of service and satisfaction has changed in the last year as their service has drastically dropped and we have had one issue after another for our last four visits. It came to a conclusion today when my three dogs were scheduled for appts right before the store opens (which is a pretty regular norm for us). I schedule all of them to come in at the same time, the first three appts of the day over 30-days in advance to do this. The appt reminders always tell me to make sure that I arrive early to check-in for my appt and complete paperwork. So at 7:40am this morning my husband and I arrived to drop-off for appts. Because one of my dogs is a service dog, we don't have them taken curbside, but bring them inside ourselves. After sitting outside the door for 20-min until 8am, we finally see the grooming employee show up for their shift. So if the first appt is at 8am and they don't arrive until 8am, sounds like we are already starting the day behind. The first employee took our names/info and said would be right out to let us bring the dogs in. The second groomer walked in at 8:04. The second didn't even look our way but was playing on his phone. At 8:10 when no one had come to the doors, another employee came out for a different dog/service and said you have to call, don't assume they remember. Finally someone picks-up after ringing for several minutes - 8:15am now. I am told by the groomer that they were still printing paperwork and would be out soon, but that they could only check in 2 of my 3 dogs as the third groomer would not be in until 9am. I have never had this issue before and said what do you mean, they have to arrive early for check-in (notice says to allow 30-min), but she said sorry you will have to bring your third dog back after the other groomer arrives at 9am, but the appt was for 9am. So after being told to arrive before appt to do check-in/paperwork, then being left outside next to the road for over 45-min, was then told would have to come back again after 9am when the appt was for 9am. This is because they are not scheduling their staff with time to get there before the appts now to do prep/paperwork and prepare for the day which was not an issue before but now seems like a norm. Our last appts the groomers were late and we had 8am appts and watched the groomers walk in at 8:36 and 8:42am. I understand cutting costs for Covid, but this has gotten ridiculous. Don't schedule appts if no one is there. It's like arriving at the doctor's office for an 8am appointment told to arrive early for paperwork and then left outside until the staff arrive at 9am. If this was a salon I was going to have my hair done and my salon appt was for 9am. Then the expectation is that my beautician would be ready to see me at 9am when I walk in the door, which means she should have already arrived for the day, had her area prepared and ready to go. If my beautician said to arrive early to talk about what services need to be performed, then I would expect them to be there at 8:30 with me to do this. So just because it is a dog, why would their staff be any different? Don't tell clients you have 8am appointments but don't plan on us being there at 8am to help you. I will be taking my business to another groomer who has a watch! read more

Went for a walk-in nail trim got two of my dogs. All the employees were friendly and helpful! My pups were able to be seen right away. You will need your dogs vaxxed for rabies, so just bring your proof of vaccines. My dogs got trimmed up very well, one of my dogs is very anxious, but they accommodated her very well! PetSmart discriminates against older dogs when you take them in for grooming they make them get an express service, which is fine, but they triple book appointments and will take the other dogs as opposed to the older dog. Honestly no stars, my friend took her beloved doggy went to this pet smart for monthly grooming. The employees started to do the doggy hair and nails. They had to stop right in the middle of the service bc they accidentally cut the dog paw when clipping the doggy. The manager was nice, she was apologetic and almost cried because of what happen. I think what happen isn't something should be left untouched, it can be forgivable but never forgotten. The doggy went to get stitches done which "Pet Smart" did pay for and gave free medication and care for the doggy return. I absolutely mad because this could been prevented, but it is what it is. Had an appointment to get both of my dogs groomed. Received a call stating that one of their ears had been cut but "she'd been seen by a vet and it's okay". If it's bad enough to go the vet, it's bad. I raced over to find out that her hair still had clotted blood all in it, my dogs rear had feces on it because she had gotten terrified and put in a cage without seemingly any of either being cleaned whatsoever. This was negligence plain and simple. If a barber cuts someone, they weren't paying attention. It's on them. If a groomer cuts your dogs, it's their fault, they should not continue to groom dogs. The scissors are in THEIR control. This negligence is never a one time event. The groomers don't just 'get lazy' like this once. This will happen again if they continue to employ the same groomer(s). This is a pattern of behavior. Take your dogs elsewhere. For the dog's sake. I'd give a lower review if possible. read more

Normally we take our pup to Petco for his routine nail trims and have always had pleasant experiences there. Due to booking we decided to try Petsmart this time. Our sweet boy is a rescue and has anxiety with nail trims, this is something we always make sure to let groomers know and something that Petco has never had an issue aiding with. During his nail trim today, our pup was handled roughly throughout his trim, to the point of him screaming and yelping. While he normally is wiggly and nervous especially with his front paws, we have never had him to the point of screaming at any groomer he's been to. Once his trim was done, we walked into the groomer area and overheard the groomers stating "sometimes i wish i didn't have to refrain from telling people how horrible of dogs they have." While i do understand how a wiggly dog with anxiety is not a walk in the park to trim nails for, as a trained groomer i would expect you to understand some dogs do not sit still and take grooming as easily. Our pup is as kind as can be, and just needs a little love during his groom to calm his nerves, which has always helped him through in previous trims. What he received today was not that, and the passive aggressive comments the groomer made toward us when checking him out on top of what was overheard when we walked in, is completely unprofessional and the treatment our pup received makes me sad for him. We had a reservation for our 17 year old cat (Gus) to be boarded at this location over the Christmas holiday while we were in California. While making the reservation we were asked the age of our cat and told PetSmart rep he was 17 years old. In fact, we had boarded him at another PetSmart location a year earlier AND had him groomed there as well just a couple of months prior. I called twice prior to dropping him off to confirm the reservation. I drove 35 minutes on 12/23/18 to this location to drop him off before we headed to the airport for our flight. To my surprise I was informed that they have a "new policy" that prohibits accepting "older cats" and that we would not be able to leave Gus there! REALLY?????? You are telling me that at the final minute prior to leaving for vacation that our plans to drop Gus off are not going to happen??? No forewarning, phone call or even notice when I called prior to confirm the reservation???? This is BS!!!! Well, PetSmart.....you have lost a customer for life. Products, grooming and hotel stays for any animals we own now or in the future will be purchased elsewhere. We have two dogs that we've boarded at a different PetSmart location and had excellent experiences with. This location, not the case. We picked up our dogs this afternoon around 3pm. Within 5 minutes of being in the car, one of our dogs pooped inside the vehicle. When I called to find out when they had last been able to use the bathroom I was told they had been walked this morning at around 6am, but the dog hadn't pooped. She offered to have us come back to get an odor eliminator for free, but we are truly going to have to get the car detailed and hope that helps. I've been taking my dog Bella to get groomed at this location for several years now by Ashley G. She has done an amazing job EVERY time and is very patient with the requests asked of. She's gentle, cleans and cuts our dogs fur throughly each time from her nails, face , tail and overall coat. She also communicates how our dog behaves during the session which is good to know as well. She provides consistent and reliable service every single time and we couldn't be more thankful to have her as our groomer at Petsmart Culebra location . Worst Grooming Ever!!! I would be very careful using this Petsmart. While I have had many interactions with the grooming department at the store the experience today was enough to ensure that I never return. A so called groomer by the name of Jessica took it upon herself to shave my dogs ears completely without my permission. I have spoken with the store manager and filed a formal complaint. She obviously is not a skilled groomer and doesn't care about the aesthetics of grooming. Petsmarts grooming services are over-priced which I have not complained about because all of the other groomers have taken their time to take great care of my dog. Worse customer service ever! I visited the petsmart at the alamo ranch area. Waited app. 20 min. to have someone to help me at the store. the groomers seemed inexperienced and careless. i took my dog over (cocker spaniel) and they told me she was too matted and that i needed to take her to a vet to shave her. Long story short, after wasting my time driving to the vet( there was a 3 hr. wait) i returned to the store and bough a clipper and groomed her myself. no big deal, it took me ~15 min. and she was done. never understood how complicated could it been.
