Can you believe I've had a dog for a little over a year and not once stepped inside a PetSmart? That changed when I scheduled a (free!) photo with Santa. Although we didn't buy anything, Bucky and I were amazed with the size of this place and all the toys, food, and treats. This review is more our experience getting the photo than actually purchasing/shopping of anything. The aisles were clean and free of clutter, and staff was helpful. They quickly pointed me to the right direction and we arrived well before our scheduled time. Since no one was in line, we were seen much, much earlier. The Santa was very sweet and said it was okay to let Bucky off his leash to let him sniff and roam around the photo area, which he did. He was super excited to meet Santa and Santa was also very excited to meet Bucky! Santa asked me to pick up Bucky and hand him to him because his beard wouldn't let him bend over. Bucky got comfortable quickly on Santa's lap and sat perfectly still with a variety of cute faces! The associate and I snapped several pictures. The associate then let me pick my favorite and a border, and the picture was quickly emailed to me. The whole experience was fun and pleasant and I rewarded Bucky with a trip to the park afterwards. read more

I DON'T RECOMMEND CAESAR! I made a same day appointment with Caesar and dropped my puppy off as scheduled. This location demonstrated poor customer service from the time of arrival. The door was locked at 1:30 with no signage. The hours are posted 7-7. Immediately after arriving Cesar advised me that the notes show prior concerns and if it gets dangerous I would be asked to return. OK. Get serious, this is a shih tzu!! My puppy is nowhere near dangerous. I laughed it off and left the location. Approximately 20 minutes after dropping my puppy off I received a call from Caesar requesting I return to the location. Caesar stated my puppy was too anxious and biting. When I arrived, Caesar went on to say he may or may not be permitted to return. When I asked him to explain what exactly did he mean by may or may not? He finally provided a clear response and replied "no he can't return and he suggested I take him elsewhere". My puppy was devastated by Caesars behavior. Based on his tone and choice of words, is Caesar qualified to deny services or make decisions which impact your business? No worries, I provided him with a tip and quietly left the location and let my puppy know he didn't need to be sad we have several options. Caesar obviously doesn't have the skills, patience nor experience requested by my Shih tzu. I should of read reviews on Caesar before I booked there are a few noting the same experience. His same day availability reflects the quality of service he is providing. In addition, when I returned to pick up my puppy the door was locked, again. I have to say, i just had the rudest and laziest incountet with Petco down the street on loop 410 who wouldn't take my dog for a quick nail trimming, he is a teacup chihuahua. I went to petsmart and they were SO busy with 4-5 other dogs all servicing grooming needs, BUT they literally set one dog aside to be able to assist a walk in for a quick nail trim. These groomers were so polite and excellent customer service and took 5 minutes to trim and service his glands. Thank you pet smart i will be coming back. read more

Almost all of the staff is nice here. There are pet grooming services and products for various pets (which are generally expensive). I usually wait for the sales (buy 3 get the 4th free promotions). There seems to be more dog products than any other products but I often see kittens that are available for adoption that live at the store. There is a small bird, reptile, rodent section. The aquariums seem basically healthy but I often see dead fish in the tanks. I feel so sorry for the beautiful betta fish that look terribly miserable. Betta are sensitive and very intelligent, they are more interactive than most fish. If you get a betta buy at least a 1-5 gallon tank, even better--get a 10 gallon palace :) (they can survive, but will not thrive in a tiny space). Keep bettas separate from each other and most other fish and buy: a small heater, light, filter pump and live aquatic plants. Betta act like dogs, they will greet you with happy dancing, will jump out of the water to reach food (be careful, get a tank lid) they are super sweet pets, they deserve much better than being unloved, trapped in tiny plastic cup prisons with dirty water. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews, but I hate bad customer service even more. Priscilla, you need a lesson in the customer service department ASAP. Politely asked if I could see one if the leopard geckos because I was interested in making a purchase "You can see all you want but you can't hold him", says Priscilla. Lol okay. I can't purchase an animal you won't allow me to handle. I'm informing her that how is that so? It's imperative to do so because one of the geckos was sick with metabolic bone disease. As I was trying to explain that she cut me off and said that he's shedding. Obviously he's shedding. Not referring to that. Okay cool, Priscilla you're not knowledgeable in the reptile department. That's okay. No problem. But your poor customer service skills? No excuse for that. I briefly speak to a manager and ask could we work something out for me to examine the animal if I purchased some gloves. (You know because of Covid). She tells me the animals are not trained to be handled and only they can handle them because if handled wrong their tales will come off. At this point this visit is laughable at best. PetSmart, please get some experienced reptile employees. As a ball python owner, and former iguana owner, I think I can handle a small leopard gecko for 2 minutes to decide if I want to purchase it or not. Of course they don't know I own their pets but being spoken to like a child and their misinformed reptile facts were painful. Obliviously the Gecko's tail wasn't going to be handled. They detach them when they are in danger. All in all, please work on your customer service skills. Take care better care of your Gecko's they have metabolic bone disease. Do not book with CESAR! Can't speak for the other groomers because this was my first experience at this location since moving from Austin. He was rude by not even acknowledging me or saying hello to me. He asked me to step away from my dog when he was first handling my dog. He saw notes in my dogs chart from other PetSmart locations that my dog is wiggly (only when trimming the face) and warned me that they will call me to pick him up early if he is too wiggly. He called me about 20min after dropping off my dog to say that he wasn't calming down and that they can't finish his appointment. I went back to pick up my dog and told Cesar that this has never happened before. At other locations, sometimes they do have trouble grooming his face but they still do the best they can and work around it. I explained this to Cesar and he said they start with the face and between the eyes so they can't move forward if they can't do that part. I told him maybe my dog is picking up on his negative energy and that he was rude to not acknowledge me when I came to check in. Safe to say I will never be bringing my pup there again. read more

So after car shopping and before lunch I remembered that I had to get food for my baby boy at home. So I come to PetSmart with my dude and we are shopping around, grabbing treats and a bag of dog food. We are in the back of the store and I run up to the front to get him a treat I just thought about. A manager comes up to me and asks me "is there a reason you took a picture of one of our female groomers?" Umm wtf excuse me? He just tells me "yeah one of our groomers told me that a guy in a blue shirt was up there taking pictures of her" I hadn't even been over there to that side of the store and I was completely caught off guard. I went up to my dude and explained to him what had just happened. Then the manager comes up to me again apologizing. Saying that he was on his lunch and his groomer told him that I was taking her picture and she told him it was a guy in a blue shirt. I'm in a blue jacket, not a shirt. Furthermore, if she didn't tell you who specifically, wouldn't you ask the person first instead of walking up to them with accusations. He didn't ask me "if" I took a picture. She apparently didn't point me out specifically but he came up to me so sure that it was me that did that, asking me the reason why I did that? More than being upset, this made me feel absolutely disgusting but even more so, disgusted with the way I was treated without any reason to treat me this way. This is the second time in a row I have had my dogs nails trimmed by the same person. Each time they have missed trimming nails. Some are barely trimmed at all. I won't be going back. I guess I just haven't found the right mom and pop groomer for my Sheriff, so I stick with Petsmart. Sheriff's normal groomer was booked for two days (Seriously, Petsmart 281!?) so we decided to call other Petsmarts for their availabilities. Low and behold we find one not too far away with 100% availability. It must be the seedy location, but that did not reflect on this locations amazing staff. Starting from the people who answered the phone, to the person who groomed Sheriff, to the people at the main entrance, we felt like royalty. I drove 1 hr to get hear and they did not finish the haircut. I have never had the other store tell to pick up my dog they always finish. The employee then tells me we can try again when it's not so busy...I thought I had an appointment...oh well I will not bring my dog here again. I really wish I could give zero stars, this place is so sad and depressing. The fish where in tiny cups (I k ow that's normal) and the water was polluted, and some of the fish's water was as do foggy. Most of the fish were dead In the tanks. The hamsters had no room at all to dig they need a lot of space to dig, the bedding was barely 2 inches deep. There was a bird that couldn't even fly he had to climb around. All the reptiles looked extremely sick and weak, the same with the cats they were sick and weak they wouldn't let me go see them even if I was going to adopt one. And the service is absolutely horrible, they workers won't say hello and where very rude and ignoring every thing I said to them. Don't take your pet here unless you want a bad groom job. read more

I recently went to this PetSmart in search of cat food. I took a small detour to look at the fish display that they had for the Betas. What I found was absolutely revolting. The cups were filled with dirty water, polluted by the fish's own waste. While some were swimming in such filth others were still, dead, as shown in the photos. For an establishment that claims " pets are family" they certainly have a poor way of showing it. Every animal deserves to be shown respect and love, no matter how small. read more

Horrible grooming experience. Do NOT use their groomers if you want yourself and your dog treated kindly. I have had my dog for 3 years and religiously take it to petsmart for grooming because they always do a great job. I recently moved to San Antonio and took my dog to this location and from the second I walked in they were rude. I brought my dog in to be shaved (11 pound maltipoo) and the groomer was feeling around his face grabbing him aggressively and almost choking him, of course my dog was scared and was acting skittish because of this. The groomer was like "If I can't get shave his face then I'm sending him home." My dog has never been sent home and groomers have always done an excellent job of shaving his entire body without complaints. The groomer called me less than 10 minutes later telling me to pick up my dog because he couldn't shave him. When I picked my dog up, he had only his ears shaved. He handed my my dog and that's it. Not an explanation of what happened or an apology or a goodbye. Just handed my dog to me and got back on the computer. I have never experienced such rudeness at a petsmart before. This man obviously doesn't have a dog because he was unkind to mine from the beginning of our interaction, and did not even have the patience to attempt to shave him for more than 5 minutes. I took my dog to different groomer (NOT PETSMART) to fix the crap job this man did and voila he is shaved perfectly and bathed. No complaints. I urge to to find a different petsmart location for your grooming needs or try pretty much any other groomer in this town. read more

We recently got some of the algae suckers for my boyfriends fish tank about 2 weeks ago and they died pretty quick. Although, I don't have too much knowledge about any type of fish. From what I understand this particular breed of fish are usually pretty healthy and sadly they were found floating belly up and had apparently gone to Fishy Heaven already. The rest of the tank is thriving still since we purchased them from another store as well as the crayfish. I hate to place blame but my boyfriend is pretty much meticulous on the care of his animals and was shocked that they had such a low life expectancy as they did. Also the fish tank background that he bought from there is hideous and the reason for that was the meager selection for fish tank backdrops only having it sold by the roll, or at least that's what we were told by the employee whom we had asked.i gave them 2 stars because I was able to pick up a great hair ball cure for my car, "Feathers" it's made in a facility that makes human food and smells like real beef human gravy and comes in a convenient single use packaging ( little packages). Although it's pretty strong so she didn't need the whole thing. I will repost the name of it in case there are any other kitty owners whose babies need to rid themselves of hair balls. Pet grooming for old dogs with arthritic hips is impossible to find. Petsmart was my go to place for years when I had tiny dogs like Pomeranians. Now I have a 16 y/o Border Collie with arthritic hips that needs grooming. I did manage to get her bathed there today, but the people there were not willing to work with her to give her a proper sanitary clip let alone a trim. They wined that they were not allowed to do this or that, etc. I told them they were just lazy. WTF! I will never buy anything there again. Ever! read more

Twenty minutes after arriving home after dropping of my two dogs, the groomer called to ask me to come pick up one of them because she was stressed, uncooperative and trying to bite. I was curious but no alarmed, so asked them to keep her caged, do the other dog and I would pick up both at the same time. Twenty minutes later, the store called again, the other groomer on the line, telling me that the second dog was stressing out and uncooperative, so they couldn't continue. Skeptical (and mad), I said that the issue seemed to be with the groomer's competency. The groomer seemed to be very pleasant and sweet, but so have been a lot of my most horrible dates and several of my former inept co-workers; those are insufficient qualities in some situations. One dog had the front of her two left legs shaved with one leg shaved right to the skin, the right two legs untouched; the other dog had parts of all four legs shaved. Neither dog had been washed (which is usually the first step to standard grooming), and one dog had loose hair still on her back where the groomer had decided to stop -- not even brushed off. They didn't make me pay (nor did I tip), because they didn't finish. The problem is, they didn't finish and gave me back two quarter-done dogs. I was just out my time and expended frustration. Neither dog has ever given any groomer a problem in four years, which makes me question the skill and capability of this groomer (or the other person present, who presumably didn't attempt to assist after the dogs were deemed 'distressed.') As well, if one of the dogs attempted to bite, I question why the dog wasn't muzzled, as is a typical preventative measure taken in many salons. It should be noted that there was only one other dog in the facility upon arrival both times -- that made me curious when I first dropped off the dogs: when I've visited the other PetSmart locations in the city for grooming, the salons were full, multiple groomers very busy. If you're in this area, find a different dog groomer, save your time, money, frustration and pet's dignity. read more

I've never used their grooming services but I can say that this place always has my chihuahua's brand of pet food in stock, sometimes even at a discounted price. Sometimes they have a little table set out behind the cash registers with neat items on clearance. Recently, I bought my dog "Little Bit" a new sushi Halloween costume that he just absolutely adores. I think it's because he likes the sensation of being hugged 24x7. I've bought fish here that end up just dying days later (not sure why) but if you bring back the receipt and the deceased fishy (poor thing) they will give you a refund. I've always wanted to buy a different kind of pet like a hamster or a snake, but my other half won't let me. He doesn't like "rodents" or "reptiles" but I think all animals deserve love & respect. This location is A-OK in my book. Bring your furry friends with you! There aren't many places around town where they're allowed. read more

Let's start off with the fact that this store is not that bad but the customer service that I received was very poor. I went in to do a very SIMPLE return. Anyone can literally get behind the register and do themselves if they wanted to. But that obviously didn't go as planned.
