Jake at his 4th skills & drills (novice) group class in two weeks.

Enrolling Jake at SMS was one of the best decisions I've made for him so far! I found SMS on Google/Yelp and stopped by the Broadway facility on a whim. After asking a few questions, Austin wanted to meet Jake and welcomed us in. Although Jake is very obedient he really struggled with meeting people and other dogs. Austin was very transparent, genuine, and encouraging and reassured us that SMS could help build Jake's confidence. He encouraged us to start muzzle conditioning and four weeks later we dropped him off for his first day camp. Taz took the time to introduce herself to Jake and quickly gained his trust. I was amazed and left with my heart at ease. Next we met Josh who has an undeniable passion for dog training. His cool calm approach and ability to lead and control Jake was really impressive and again we left feeling more and more hopeful. Later we met Caitlyn who really helped teach me how to communicate with Jake, keep him engaged, and gave me a better understanding how to juggle the leash and e-collar remote. Next we met Kendall who continued to help us work on Jake's impulse control, going through doors, and leash pulling. She also helped teach Jake how to get himself into my Jeep without me lifting him. On each of these days Robert showed up bright and early to happily receive Jake, check on our progress, and make note of any issues we were having that we'd like the trainers to focus on that day. Jake was always so happy to go with Robert that he stopped looking back for me when I'd leave. Clearly Jake's confidence grew with each visit. Brittney who had heard of a highly reactive dog enrolling met Jake one day and couldn't believe he was the dog that she heard about. She said "Jake... from State Farm? This Jake? No way!" This amazing staff continues to impress me with their training techniques, patience for dogs/people, and compassion for all dogs without judgement. They've really taken great care of my boy. In group classes the team has been very intentional to keep everyone safe, comfortable, and having fun! Even if Jake struggles with a new task or gets too talkative in class I consider it all a huge WIN because just two months ago I could not imagine Jake being in the same room with strangers and dogs and yet he's doing amazing! Thank you to the entire Sit Means Sit team for training me and taking such great care of my Jake!

Hershey is a rescue we got three months ago. He is a big lover boy but was not well-trained. We tried to train him on our own but realized we needed help from some professionals. He is strong and could almost pull us to the ground when he saw another dog or a vehicle. After doing quite a bit of research we chose Sit Means Sit. We were very reluctant to train using an e-collar but after meeting with Lisa and understanding it is not used for punishment we were more comfortable. Hershey was in their Board and Train program and he did great. Each of the trainers was professional and very friendly. With their follow up classes and our consistency with his continued training, we are confident we will have a very well-trained and well-behaved dog. Thank you SMS!!

In 2021, i thought that my people/dog aggressive blue heeler was unfixable and possessed the potential fate of being put down. It is now Jan 3, 2023 and I am truly so happy with SMS. My consultation was late December 2021 with Austin at the Broadway location. I explained to him my concerns and goals and he was very enthusiastic about Bojack's potential with the program. Austin had me test the e-collar for my own reassurance as an owner. (test was on fatty area of the palm). I never had doubts about using this sort of training tool, especially with a dog like Bojack which I knew needed something more than just a "good boy! here's a pat on the head". Bojack did the 6 day course where he attended a daycare-like setting at the Broadway facility 3 days for 2 weeks. (He was muzzled for each class which I fully supported). After every class, I would get a lesson on what Bojack learned such as how to use the e-collar and the basic commands that follow with it, (heel, place, sit, down, stay, come). Bojack already knew these commands from a previous program he did but I was mostly looking forward to the years' worth of group classes that are included in the price. (these group classes were the absolute selling point for me. I was very dedicated to Bojack's progress). Bo's first group class was Jan 27, 2022. It has been almost an entire year and I truly can't believe the progress he has made with SMS. In these past 12 months, Bo has truly mastered most of the commands and exercises that we do during group class. Bojack has now been accepted into the brand new Advanced II class that will consist of weekly field trips for higher-skilled exercises and a more challenging environment. This is all credited towards the amazing trainers he has seen throughout the year: Patricia and Mike throughout the year, Zach for the last half of the year and Isaac for these past couple weeks. (also a big thank you to all the trainees/newer employees that help run the facility). I am not going to lie, Bojack still has reactivity issues, but I have accepted and so should you, (if you are a severely reactive dog owner), that these behaviors will likely not go away due to many unique reasons. BUT, what you CAN do is learn how to be proactive. Proactivity and consistency is the key for owning dogs like these. You can't expect to drop a couple grand on SMS, not attend any group classes and then expect a cured dog. Those group classes are absolutely vital to you and your dog's training abilities. Being consistent is so important, I can't stress that enough. With the dedication I put into Bo and SMS for the past 12 months, I can now take Bo to any crowded place and feel confident in his ability to execute an excellent heel walk while walking by distractions amongst other commands. Thank you trainers and Lisa for the environment you created, for the training you provided and the confidence you instilled in me and Bo :)

I highly recommend bringing your your dog to sit means sit! I have a 3 year German Shepard who we brought here and omg its made such a big difference in our lives. She gets overexcited and reactive when she sees other dogs and is uncontrollable. It made it really hard taking her out on walks and we avoided any place with dogs. We have seen so much improvement brining her to sit-means-sit. I no longer get dragged around every time I take her off and I can now get her to listen and pay attention even with other dogs around. We were even able to take her to PetSmart on a Sunday and she did so good with other dogs around! This is not our first time trying to "fix" these issue. We took her to other training facilities and saw no results and we got told "she will grow out of it" which was not true! I really wish I would have known about Sit-means-sit earlier because its been the only place that has really helped us out. They have taught her and I so many useful commands. They would take her on "field-trips" meaning that they would train her outside of dog parks/ places with distractions which is awesome because its much harder to get a dog to listen to you with distractions, but its so needed! The trainers are awesome too! You can tell they are really passionate about the work they do and they are there for you to answer questions and continue helping you even after the sessions. If you are considering brining your dog here do it you will not regret it. I really wish I would have brought my fur baby here years ago as it was 100% worth it!

Samson is now well over 50 lbs...but I just love this baby picture of him

I have a 5 month Doberman (Samson). I have had a few dogs (poodles) in the past. However, they were very ill mannered. So when I decided to get a Samson, I wanted to be a good parent and provide him with all the tools necessary to be successful. Here came SMS, and from the very first day, we were rolling with positive behaviors. Better yet, my confidence improved in providing the necessary training at home. We graduated from the puppy class, and went straight to the board and train. Our trainer Josh, Austin, and Robert have done wonders with my ever growing pup. But more important, I see my confidence in training improving with each visit. I like to show Samson off to my relatives...he is so well behaved and stays in place upon command. I strongly recommend SMS to anyone who wants to get the most out of their dogs.

    Tyson my baby

Exact trainers so patient and compassionate. All the trainers especially Candice took all the time we needed to understand and reinforce the training after each day. I especially enjoyed and appreciated the daily pictures and updates I received. Can't say enough great things about SMS

Sit Means Sit's commitment to improving dog behavior and the dog/owner relationship is unparalleled. The trainers at their San Antonio facility were helpful, knowledgeable, and truly caring - even long after the actual training appointments. Before working with SMS, my dog was distracted and unconfident. She couldn't go for a walk without stopping to sniff at every tree and freaking out at every falling leaf. Now she's a model of decorum on walks - especially when she's wearing her Sit Means Sit collar. I recommend SMS to any dog owner who's over the bad behavior but unsure how to get results from DIY training efforts.

He bit my husband all the way home from Austin (where we picked him up) and then proceeded to let us know he wasn't potty trained the moment we got to the house. Shortly after, he also let us know he did not like visitors to our apartment. He'd follow them around nipping and growling at their feet relentlessly. We gave him grace for awhile thinking it was the new environment, but after he bit the Petco Trainer during the graduation of Adult 1, we knew we had to do something. From the moment that I called Karma Dog Training, I felt very comfortable. Jeff answered my call and he patiently listened to me explain the situation. He went into detail about dog aggression and referred us to Carolyn. Carolyn was prompt in helping me get scheduled for an appointment and arrived on the decided time. Our first secession was last night. The moment Carolyn arrived I could tell she was perfect for the situation. She is very soft spoken and gentle. My husband and I watched as she went through a series of potential trigger test on him. She isolated sound quickly, which never even occurred to me! Carolyn informed us that Drake's aggression is definitely fear based. She gave us exercises that we can do with our guest to help build his confidence. Also, she walked us through the steps of greeting guest, from the moment they knock on the door. We know that this will be a journey of replacing fearful situations, with positive ones, but I can tell with the tools and advice she gave us, that we have a starting foundation to build on. On a side note, we recently adopted another dog named Elena. We have not had the time to start obedience training with her, and she is only six months. Needless to say, she's quite the wiggle worm. Towards the end of the session, we let her down for the greeting the guest portion. She literally would just plop down in a sit at Carolyn's feet, and spend minutes calmly looking up at her. I was baffled. Her attention span is about two seconds. Overall, we received 10-star customer service! The whole process was fantastic, and we are looking forward to having another session. Let it be known, that I researched, and spoke to over 10 dog trainers/ behaviorists in San Antonio.. and can honestly say my experience with Karma Dog Training was the best! My husband and I have no doubt in our minds that Carolyn will be our go to trainer for any issues here on out.

Because of this, she cannot go to boarding kennels while we are out of town. In the past we have had friends keep our dog. Jessica and Ron came over last minute the day we were flying out of town when other plans fell through to meet Jade. They loved her and we handed over our gate clicker and our keys, crossing our fingers because we had never left her in the care of strangers. We got text messages almost daily and emails with photos of Jade and what she was doing while we were away. When we returned home, we found that Jessica had kept a journal of everything that they did. I think they agreed to come for 30 minutes each time twice a day, but I'm suspecting they might have stayed even longer because of her journal entries. They let our dog out to potty, not only played fetch with but also walked her, fed her breakfast/dinner, and loved on her to death. Jessica even massaged Jade's legs after playing fetch with her. These folks at Home Buddies are wonderful with hearts of gold and I will entrust our pooch in their care in the future as we regularly go out of town for seminars/trips. I think in the average boarding kennel, you get charged around $20 per night and you have to leave your dog in crates with other yappy pets crying for their owners. They get let out a couple of times, but may not get the personal attention that you would regularly give them yourself. Home Buddies is great because our dog was able to stay home in a comfortable, familiar atmosphere, not get locked up, and she got TONS of attention and love from Jessica and Ron. Call them up the next time you leave town. It's a little more to keep your pet at home than send them to a boarding kennel, but it's worth it to me that I know she was treated just as well as if I were home when I wasn't.
