My wife and I took our 1 year old golden retriever, Ellie, here for training, after luckily stumbling upon it on google and reading the outstanding reviews. Having adopted Ellie recently, she did not have the best manners, and really had not undergone any sort of training her whole life. We knew she could use the extra help with some professional training. She had poor leash skills, jumped up on us and strangers all the time, and chewed objects around the house. After the two week training camp, Ellie is basically a different dog (see YouTube video below from her second week of training camp). She has great leash walking skills, responds very well to "no", will sit in "place" (her bed) and stay, and is all around a better behaved dog. We even had follow up lessons with Jonathan to make sure we know how all the training commands and techniques worked and to help us stay on top of it. I've put two more puppies thru his 3 week program and I've had so many people tell me how excellent their behavior is/was in public, especially at such a young age (6 mos. to now- 1.5 yrs old). These two have had a few extended visits while I've had to travel for work and they've always been well taken care of. I was quite nervous about leaving my dogs for two weeks, but it was a great decision. I was extremely impressed with how much my 2 dogs (Rottweiler & doberman) learned in two weeks. There were many behaviors my Doberman needed to change and I now have the necessary tools and knowledge to help her make better choices. My Rottweiler comes when called and my Doberman is learning that no means no. Yes, there is a VIBRATION collar, there is no "shock" collar, and you have to sign a waiver for them to use this device. Since having my dog home, he has been nothing short of AMAZING!! I should have done this years ago, but we took our then 6-year-old chihuahua mix to Jonathan to be trained and didn't really expect much. Rocco pulled on the leash, didn't listen and would go berserk around other dogs. Two weeks after dropping him off, we came back and he was a new dog. Stayed when told. Walked off leash next to us and he was better behaved than everyone else's dog. Family and friends were amazed at the change. Jonathan is a god! I am so happy I found him on google. My husband and I really needed help with our 90 lb Golden Retriever (Sora). Sora is a very friendly, lover boy but he had horrible leash manners as well as not obeying or becoming a hand full when greeting people or other dogs. My husband and I met with Jonathan when our German Shepherd Dog started having some aggression issues with other dogs and visitors to our home. After the evaluation, our hopes were high that he would be able to help us all work through the issues with the board and train program. He wasn't sure if our dog would need the two or three week program. We'd have to see how he did in the training. While he was in training, we got updates and a few pictures of his progress. After two weeks, I was surprised to hear that our dog didn't need a third week of training. It would have been easy for Jonathan to say he needed another week and collect the extra money but he was very honest. When it was time to pick him up, we were totally amazed and so happy with his progress. I couldn't believe how he stayed by my side while walking past other dogs and sat when I stopped. I am so happy to be able to walk him peacefully again. Also, when we have visitors, he stays right on his bed and doesn't even bark at them. Everyone is shocked at the difference in him when they come over. All other little annoying behaviors that weren't even main issues are now solved (jumping, barking in the yard and car, not coming when called). He's like a perfect dog now! I love the program because it includes four follow up training sessions. So far we've used two and they've really helped us brush up on our training and answer any questions we have. We brought our Great Pryrenees - Retriever mix rescue (12 mo old?) to Jonathon in April to learn some manners (jumping, chewing, anxiety). And just as many others have said - two weeks later.... a new dog! Jonathon spent an hour with us when we picked Clarence up so that we were equipt with the tools and commands we needed to be consistent in his training back at home. We have 2 rescue dogs we adopted and another dog we found that we are currently fostering. We found Jonathan and he has been a lifesaver. He not only taught us to train our dogs in the basic obedience commands but also for them to be able to walk off leash and stay with us. Literally in only 3 lessons, our crazy dogs who could not sit still and would chase after cars are now walking off leash right next to us and sit and stay until we tell them not to. Jonathan's training has been amazing. We are constantly getting complements from our neighbors who are shocked and how we are able to walk our dogs without leashes. Additionally his pricing is extremely reasonable compared to the other trainers we checked into. Most (like Sit Means Sit) require an expensive package deal. Jonathan allows us to buy sessions individually and as needed. We now also use him exclusively for our dog boarding needs. We used to go to Lucy's which was great but with 3 dogs it quickly became affordable. We are now able to board our 3 dogs at Jonathan's facility for 1/2 of the cost of Lucy's and the dogs are just as happy. They get play time and nice clean indoor kennel space, as a bonus they get some refresher training with Jonathan while they are boarded. One of our dogs is extremely skittish and barks and runs away from everyone but us. We were pleasantly surprised to see her run from us right into Jonathan's arms the last time we dropped her off. Let me begin by saying the location is a little weird and hard to find. But dont let that deter you, its apart of the charm. Once inside you can see the areas are clean and the dogs are happy. We adopted Magz (1 year old german shep) approx 6 months ago. She was a HANDFUL to say the least. She would chase our indoor cat, jump on counters, and walking her could be a nightmare. I learned the fences to stay clear of or else she would virtually dislocate my shoulder trying to pull towards the mystery dogs behind those fences. The last straw was when she tore through her harness and ran to a neighbors puppy, not aggressive thank goodness but it was enough for us to decide she needed professional help. We tried private classes from a petstore (HUGE waste of our time and money-I am sure they work for some dogs but not Magz). After much research we found Jonathan at San Antonio Dog Training co. Magz was enrolled in the 2 week off-leash program. On the way to pick her up after the 2 weeks we joked maybe she would be his first F student and would send us packing with our still wild dog. We were so wrong. Magz was a TOTALLY DIFFERENT dog in all the best ways possible. Jonathan took the time to show us how to enforce the training and we got to take her to the parking lot off leash and work with her,it was amazing. The real test was taking her home. We actually sat and watched a movie with her in her assigned "place" the entire time! No running around after the cat, no jumping on counters or messing around with our other dog. She literally laid and stayed exactly where we told her to and didn't move. The next morning I braved the walk. I was anxious and fearful but she was AMAZING! She walked perfectly off my left heel, sat when I stopped and stayed sitting until I told her to. Cats and squirrels were nothing to her! I even felt brave and took her past the dreaded row of fences that she used to virtually pull my arm out of socket to get to. She perked up as we walked by but NEVER tried pulling or breaking away. I've been very hesitant to write this review but after having my dog home for about a month or so, I feel I can give a fairly honest review. I did the 2.5 week in-house dog training program. I have an 8 month old miniature schnauzer that is pretty stubborn, no huge behavioral issues. I was hoping the training would improve the communication level and I don't think it did that. I actually think it worsened the communication level between us as he seems much more stubborn than before. The only pro is he is better during walks not too much tugging or pulling but everything else requires constant correction and some things he doesn't have at all. All of this has been since he has returned home. I actually voiced my concerns in an email and I was pretty much told it was our fault that he wasn't following commands because he was fine at the facility. To me, that's a cop out. Both my husband and I work with our dogs multiple times a day and we are using the collar very heavily. I have another miniature schnauzer that is more stubborn and was thinking about sending her but after getting my first one back, I don't think it's worth the money. Another issue is they are hard to reach and a business should have better communication. Bottom line: if your dog has huge behavioral issues, this program probably works well but i can't recommend it for basic training as it doesn't deliver on its claims. read more

I boarded my 3 dogs and requested a training session for 2 of them. It was convenient to be able to board the dogs and receive training at the same time. Jonathan does a terrific job training; stern but loving. He gave me great tips for continuing to train the dogs. The hardest part of dog training is training the owner :) The kennels were clean and quiet. There is a nice outdoor space for the dogs to socialize with others. When I picked up the dogs from the kennel, they didn't want to leave! The location is a little hidden. The training/kennel facility is in around the corner of the building, but once you turn, it's well labeled. Wonderful facility! read more

Brought my 6mo Aussie in for the 2 Week Off Leash program. When I picked him up he was like an entirely new dog. Very obedient and ready to work. Follows commands and seems excited to complete them. Since then I have had to board him once for a weekend out of town. When I arrived to drop him of he was very excited to see them and then when I came back they had taken the time to work with him and put him through some refresher training. Update to previous post - I did get in contact with the trainer eventually and my dog and I went in for an evaluation. Some background to my story: I had previously gone to another training company who promised a free consultation. However, they spent very little time with my dog one on one. They were more interested in selling me a package of lessons that would cost over $1000. In contrast, when we arrived at the San Antonio Dog Training Co for our appointment, Jonathan talked to me about my dog's issues and how to address them. He gave me some tips on how to manage my dog and encouraged me to work with my dog one on one. I felt he was honest and fair and he didn't pressure me into buying any lessons. His focus truly was on helping me have a better relationship with my dog. Because of this, he seems to be a high demand trainer. I am speculating this is why I initially had difficulty getting a hold of him. As a result, I've updated my review and I would recommend him to others. read more

We boarded our loveable Mochi who as far as I know, have the worst case of reactivity for other dogs I've ever seen. He's almost 5 and has gradually gotten worse over the years since we adopted him at 9 months. He's so affectionate and calm at home, it took us quite a while to realize he was not going to get better with time. He's still not completely better but has improved after three weeks of training. When I picked him up, John arranged for several dogs to provoke Mochi and showed me how correct his response. He's a better dog with basic commands and I would do it over again. What's really impressive is how John was willing to work on follow up visits with me and Mochi. He's very professional and responds quickly to setting up day, time and location. He's like a stern teacher who really cares about his furry student. We went to several parks and hiking trails all over San Antonio and I'm thinking I have the right tools now to work with my Mochi :) read more

I would not recommend this facility for dog training. My dog was in the two week in-facility training program. I never met Johnathon and he didn't train my dog. When I picked my dog up, she was happy to see me and began playfully rubbing up against me to be petted. The trainer dropped the leash which became tangled around my dog's leg. The trainer wanted my dog to stop greeting me and abruptly pulled the leash. My dog yelped in pain. The trained said yelping in pain was normal. I informed her the leash was around my dog's leg and when she pulled the leash, it likely hurt my dog leg. I discussed if I wrapped the leash around the trainer's leg and pulled with the same force, she would likely experience pain as my dog did. This is concerning because if a trainer is not paying attention in front of the owner, it raises the question what happened when I was not there. The trainer preceded to show me what my pup learned. She then handed me the electrical handheld device for the training collar. She instructed me to press the button if my dog was not walking correctly or misbehaving. I looked at the device and it was on the highest setting. I was not going to press the button. Apparently the only training my pup received was with the electrical collar. You remove the collar, she knows no commands. I never instructed them to use this device and never signed a waiver for them to use it. I didn't know this was part of the training. Before I signed her up, I inquired and was told her training would be with treats for positive reinforcement. Also, my dog came home with diarrhea and per my vet, based on stool lab exam, she had an intestinal infection. It also appeared my dog likely was handled roughly with training because she appeared to have some mild issues w/her gait. I have had her home for two weeks, gait much improved and diarrhea resolved w/medication. read more

I have an English Bulldog named Professor Higgins that is definitely stubborn Bulldog. I was at my wits end when I went for a consultation with Jonathan. I was immediately sold on the way Jonathan interacted with Higgins. He went to the 2 week training program and came home a new dog. After coming home I was having a little trouble following "my rules" that Jonathan taught me and he came to my home and worked with us. Since training Jonathan has boarded Higgins several times and takes excellent care and truly think I Higgins loves to go back and see Jonathan. We sent our 1 year old whirling dervish golden/lab mix for the three week "boot camp", due to her jumping, nipping, and overall out of control behavior. We left our 6 month old rat terrier Gracie with Johnathan for two weeks of training. Gracie would not listen to myself or my husband. When we called her name she would ignore us and continue whatever she was doing which was usually something bad. Gracie would run out the door and down the street any chance she got. She also jumped on everyone that came in our house. After training with Johnathan, Gracie now listens to us, waits at the door until we say ok and isn't jumping on visitors.
