Arfordable Dog Training Testimonial I want to express my pleasure with the work that Arfordable Dog training in Converse Texas has done with my German Shepherd puppy Thorin Oakenshield. We started Thorin at Arfordable at just over 4 months old when he had completed his puppy vaccinations. Thorin is my 6th GSD, they are an intelligent, and at times challenging breed as they mature. Providing a positive environment for them is key to having a well-adjusted dog throughout their lives. The vast array of trainers working at Arfordable means that Thorin has gained experience being handled by multiple people all of whom are qualified, credentialed trainers. As part of the training process the dogs are create trained, socialized with full supervision, as well as obedience training. All the basics are covered, and the ability to progress to a high level of training is present. We elected to use a combination of twice a week board and train where Thorin received two training sessions along with socializing play sessions during per day. During the four-week beginning training Thorin attended two days of training per week, followed by a weekly group session, where I as the handler received training in dealing with Thorin and the desired behaviors. Each day's training began with me able to provide input on what I was seeing, and working on, getting verbal feedback when picking him up from training about what he had worked on as well as any issues or things to work on between him and I. I also received a written report card by email detailing each of the days' training sessions, including photos and videos from the session showing his progress. We followed up the basic training period with a monthly membership that includes a monthly hour of one-on-one training at our home or public area that may be challenging Thorin. The day training allowed us to focus on areas that were challenging Thorin, and the weekly group class allowed me to work with him directly with distractions from other dogs. The level of training, and commitment to continued development of subject matter expertise is evident by the level of continuing education, during my five months working with Arfordable, several of the staff have traveled as far as Chicago, and Kentucky for continuing education. When Thorin was struggling with crate aggression as other dogs moved by, Jessica Arfordables owner brought in her own dog to work with Thorin. As Thorin progressed staff took him to locations from local pet stores to Home Depot or parks to work on behavior and socialization. The real world outside the training facility exercises resulted in noticeable improvement and worked on issues such as loading and unloading from vehicles which at about 6 months suddenly became an issue for him. I believe in having professional guidance even on topics where I am very competent. Having been involved in competitive sports all my life, I have always had coaches, going to Arfordable is no different than my going to a golf or tennis pro, shooting coach, or driving instructor. Not to be dramatic but Jessica pretty much saved my dog's life. I have a super sweet and friendly Boston Terrier but about a year ago he started growling and biting when I'd try to move/adjust him on the bed. I thought that maybe he needed behavioral training and out of all of the trainers I spoke with, Jessica was the only trainer who asked thorough and in depth questions before agreeing to help my dog. She suggested that my dog may actually be in lingering pain from a back injury he had two years ago and the first step was to get an xray at the vet because she didn't want to shut down his communication if he's trying to tell me that he's hurt and come to find out, Jessica was right. Every other trainer I spoke to before Jessica didn't ask a single question. They were all very eager to say they could help and wanted to charge me $2-3K to teach my dog basic commands like "sit" and "stay" (which he already knew) and I couldn't understand how that would address the growling and biting issue. When it comes to trainers I have to say that experience and love of animals both matter to me. Arfordable is founded on fear free principles and uses positive reinforcement to train your dog. The high level of education is consistently tweaked as they continue to take the ENTIRE staff to trainings throughout the year to make sure they are doing everything to give their clients and dogs the best experience possible. My husband and I took our German Shepard puppies to Jessica's 4-week Basic Obedience class. As new dog owners, I didn't know where to begin and looked everywhere for training classes. I am so glad a friend recommended Arfordable Dog Training! Jessica is great with the dogs and an excellent teacher. One of my favorite things were the hand-outs she provided at the end of the class. They included helpful notes that allowed me to continue practicing what we learned. Jessica would touch base with every dog to see how they were doing and provide tips/alternate ways of getting the appropriate behavior if your dog was struggling. She would stop for questions after each new command. She went above and beyond in explaining the different types of leashes and harnesses available. We have a spicy female corgi and when we decided to get a new puppy we knew we would need help integrating the new puppy with our female. We were lucky to find Jenny at arfordable dog training, and she came to our house for one on one sessions with our puppy and female. We have learned and benefited so much from their experience and patience. It has been a year and a half and our puppy is now CGC, CGCA, CGCU, CGC novice tricks, certified and soon will be certified as a therapy dog. I would not have been able to obtain these certifications without their experience and guidance. Highly recommend! I cannot say enough about this facility and the staff. The facility is clean and has a great set up. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable!! Owners Jessica and Jenny have done wonders for our "special " girl Echo! She came to us with many issues, and then some!! With their knowledge and patience our girl has made so many gaines. We went through their basic classes which Echo did so well with. Now that new issues have arisen we are working one on one with Jessica with Behavior Modification Training and again we already see improvements with Echo. Recently our female Labrador Retriever had 8 puppies - this is such fun and so exciting! However - we had plans to travel to Ga to be with family over Christmas. We also have 4 grown labs SO that's 12 doggies we have in our home! I am a stay at home dog mom and know the work very well that goes into caring for puppies. Jessica with Affordable Dog Training went above and beyond the call of duty in training our dog. She met despite undesirable weather and did not waste time during the sessions. She made sure that each owner and pet involved got equitable time and instruction. She was very patient with both my dog and I. Jessica was fantastic with the two rescue dogs we were trying to blend together in our home. They both had aggression in their history, so training was critical for both dogs to be able to stay. This "trainer" stated that she'd have to put my dog down if she bit her. Why would I be going to you if my dog didn't have issues such as biting, nipping, incessant barking yet have the outcome possibly be death because you don't understand dogs? God forbid someone goes to you unknowingly for business and loses their poor dog who they're just trying to make a better canine citizen only to find that you're insufficiency at training led to its death.
